Anyone have one of these?
If this is like a flamethrower robot, I might have to put these all around battlegrounds just to have fire all over the poor horde's logs in WSG.
Other places could do with a little extra fire too.

can i assume this is a disposable item that can't follow you like a target dummy? i bet the both a target dummy and flame turret would make a great combo to use on beast i suppose.

I just crafted one myself. In my opinion, it is not very good.
It lasts for about 20-25 seconds (may be a bit longer) and damages enemies for 31-35 fire damage every second.
Really not worth the materials required to make one, and a one-time use.

They have changed this slighlty...makes 3 turrets now. Still hardly worth the mats... From what i can tell they might have also increased the duration. Ticks for 30-40 damage every 1 second.
Not worth the mats though.

After extensive testing with these, I agree with those who say they're not worth the materials.
The damage itself is kinda low, but seeing it's a Cone-AE and it lasts a bit, not necessarily that bad (40 damage a sec on say 4 enemies -> 160DPS, impressive actually).
The problem however is that unlike the Battle Chicken or the Dragonling, these don't scale in level with your engineering skill.
As such, they'll always be lvl65, even when you drop them with 390 Engineering at lvl70 (Gnome).
And being a lvl65 attacker, they get resisted ~90% or so? Didn't track it, but was just littering my screen in "Resist" messages, I maybe saw 4-5 hits over an entire Turret, into a group of 5 mobs.
So yeah - until they fix that (because I don't think it's intended, Chicken and Dragonling scale, too), it's really not worth the mats once you're ~66+.

I only use them on bosses when I know they'll get hit by the full duration; it's free dps, why not.
On a side note, after they expend themselves, you can loot them for parts, such as adamantite frames or fel iron casings.
I'd say they're worth it.

since the new 2.3 patch the mats have changed to something more reasonable. though it's not more powerful but it will provide you the ability to loot it like a compact harvester for remaining mats. i found this most useful to use in the flag spawn point in eye of the storm matches which prevent my opponents from getting the flag.

This is one of the best Battleground item. It prevent people from capping EotS, AV and AB flags. This also make good anti-rogue in WSG.
And now they are really cheap to make.

The pet that comes out is the same level as you and is subject to the same spell hit rules as applied to any caster. Thus this isn't too useful against raid bosses its going to get resisted 16-17% of the time. I have tried this on Hydross and Lurker, fights with ads. Every shot against the ads was a hit. I don't think it was worth the investment at all..... don't use these for raids

it worth 10 times the money that i spend. but only use it in bosses. on mobs, duels, bg or arena no use... exept when you are agains classes that use cloth (mage, prist and locks)

This tactic works amazingly well. In most cases I'm left single-guarding a node in AB, and dropping this turret facing the flag when I get into combat is a life saver, usually keeping them from being able to cap the flag until reinforcements arrive.
Now when we do premades, all the engineers are stationed at each base.

its WORTH IT when boosting in SFK simple as it is when i get into the courtyard i pull the whole danm thing...and as a rogue i got no real AOE (AOE for me is when it CAN hit 5 or more enemies at once NOT only an aditional) i have pulled them all i simply put it down and wait for it to be done......lets see i say roundhanded theres 20 if u pull enough 30-40 x 45 (if lucky and it lasts) = 1350 - 1800 and thats on 1! mob now 1350 - 1800 x 20 = 27000 - 36000 damagde
correckt me if im wrong but wouldnt u say to a maksimum of 36K damagde that thing is worth it when looking at the damagde output....though i would say it should be a trinket with a 2 min CD and hell of an ekspensive cost ;-D

If you purchase all the mats sold by vendors and farm the Mote of Fire and Mote of Earth yourself, it will only cost you 8g 40s.
So that means if you buy the Motes, it wouldn't cost much more than 10-12g depending on your server.
That's about 3-4g per use, and if you are alone defending an AB flag in a Pre-Made, I would say it's worth it. But only then.

Hear ye, hear ye, the story of the rogue who, alone, distrupted the offensive of an entire Horde army.
My friend is a lvl 65 gnome rogue, and he's a gnomish engineer. So once he was in AV and the Horde assaulted Dun Baldar, they were all massed on the bridge trying to break through the Alliance defense. So my friend placed a Gnomish Flame Turret on the bridge and, since it's an item you don't see every day, most Hordies didn't even know what it is. So they all panicked and jumped off the bridge! As for the few who remained, they were easily picked up by the Alliance defenders. Needless to say, the offensive was totally failed, due to one rogue and his Flame Turret.
So don't tell me it's not useful.

for me it does lots of 33-34's with up to 4 dmg readings in the screen at any given time (areadmg so more against more opponents) a duel with a friend with 3.1k hp.. friend died before the turret ran out of gas no healing, no resistances no other dmg. so its safe to say it does atleast 3.1k dmg...
also a chanse to get the adamantite frame back after it dies( or fel iron bolts) havent dropped any casing for me yet

Has anyone seen this thing in action? Is it more like a pulse? or is it an actual gun that hurls fireballs at mobs? And whats the damage range? Can they be targeted and destroyed like totems?
I'm sure they're nifty, but I'm just curious how viable they really are in the game. PvE or PvP.

I just made one of these and was all hyped to test it out, so I threw it down in the middle of Silvermoon... It disappeared after a short while, and since it disappeared, it was unlootable to get any materials back, so I thought it must be able to be used more than once, checking my inventory, it was gone... One time use, indeed. Definately not worth it considering the price of Primal Fire and that the Adamantite Frame needed requires four Adamantite Bars, and a Primal Earth. Oh well, another thing I'll never bother making again.

This item really is expensive.. i hear blizzard is going to review engineering and i dont blame them. This item should cost ALOT less in mats to make. So far the only thing i have found that is really worth the price are the bombs. I love engineering and wouldnt change it for the world.. but can the items please cost les? And maybe more items should be useable to non engineers? Would be nice to make gold from my trade... its already cost me an arm and a leg =/
edit : at least make it worth it.. like 5 charges?
or trinket would be nice! Maybe a trinket with a 10% chance of breaking after use?

This Will drop a Flame Turret at your feet (takes 2 sec cast time to do so)
after dropping the turret will take a second to unfold itself
it will then start attacking any enemies within 8 yards, doing a flame breath that does ~35 fire damage every second.
it is targetable and can take damage (has about 1k life)

So I was looking over it and from what Ive seen since tbc came out goblins got really pimped and gnomish got..... ( Crickets ) - Just to make it clear I am a Horde Mage Gnomish.
1. Goblins got 2 different epic head pieces- one for caster one for melee. Gnomish get a melee one. If I was a rogue I prolly wouldnt care.. but Im a mage and I would like a nice caster helm from my skill.
2. Goblins get to teleport to A52. They get a bank, a mailbox, and an inn. As a horde gnomey I get some dumb town in blades edge mountains. I get to teleport there and fly to an inn.... no bank.
3. They get rocket launchers and we get this PoS. If I missed something somebody plz correct me, but I did not see anything like the Rocket Launcher that we got. This thing does freaking 35 dmg a hit and requires fking @#$%^&ed mats to build, and on top of all of that its expendable.
If I missed something crazy that the gnomes got please somebody point my stupidity out.
I would just like either some better items added to the gnomish tree, or for our items to be made equivilant.

To meercrob:
1) Goblins get 2 heat pieces (mail & cloth). Actually, gnomes also do:

侏儒作战护目镜 (leather, great for rogues) and
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23828/
侏儒能量护目镜 (cloth, good for any casting clothy).
2) Goblins get to teleport to Area 52... and also to Everlook. Gnomes have equivalent devices for Gadgetzan (not only has mb, inn, and bank, but also engineer trainer up to 300) and to Toshley's Station (never been there, so i'm not sure what you can find in this place):

超级安全传送器-托什雷的基地.
3) I must speak in favor of the Gnomish battle chicken! It's a bit tricky to use well, but it can do great things: it starts attacking for 1 melee damage (or 2 dmg when crits), and causing a lot more threat than such few damage should cause... once it's life drops low enough, it'll become enraged and start dealing 60-70 dmg to mobs of the same lvl... it hits almost once per second or 1,5 secs, which makes it a nice dps; and can be healed with a repair kit without it loosing its 'enraged' condition. In addition, care that it doesn't lvl with you, but with your engineering skill (lvl=skill/5), up to a potential lvl of 75 for most engineers and 78 for gnomes (thx to the racial +15).. Whenever my lvl55 rogue drops it (currently at 67!), it turns the tables for almost any battle... also, it gives me a chance to vanish, first aid, stealth, and ambush again the enemy, since I leave combat with the vanish but the chicken doesn't!
I still have to try the poultyrizer and some other things, but gnomish engineering has great things! It's just that they require more imagination to take the most of it :P
To the ones who asked where to learn it: as it's been said, it requires gnomish engineering. Speak with anyone of the npcs that give you the membership renewal and the recipes to get it. One of them is in Tinker Town, Ironforge, and another in Booty Bay, stranglethorn vale. Dunno if there is anyone in any horde location. If you're already gnomish engineer, they are easily to find thx to the blue question mark above their heads (almost as large as them selves! :P)

I have just tested this thing out in The Deadmines. I gathered up +/- 20 mobs and then used this thing. My DPS meter tells me the following:
-It does 34.4 damage on average(thats with crits).
-It lives for like 10 sec and then it just goos away (you can't loot it). Sometimes it stays longer, don't know why.
-During the fight it got damaged and it took 1197 damage. It was low on health but didn't got killed my guess is 1500hp.
-it did 6268 total damage.
The problem is that it has a very small AOE attack, also the fire damage it causes is not spell damage (unlike a fire ball). Thus the arcanite dragonling (flame buffet) can't boost its DPS.
All in all, its just a
peace of junk

as of 2.3 it no longer requires primal fire. needless to say I finally made some. the first three I made when I looted them I got back more mats then I put in. But I think I just got lucky. I tried using one while fighting a druid in Sentinel hill. I dropped it and it attacked him. I won the battle, so I stayed close to my turret in case they came back. and sure enough they did, but for some reason my turret didn't attack them anymore. Some guardian this is. It may have been the "almost always attacks nearby enemies" aspect kicking in. one thing that's cool is that it produces a rather large fire cloud and being a gnome I can stay close to the turret and essentially hide in the fire, making it difficult for other players to select me. Yet another sneaky tactic brought to you by gnomish engineering.

Really not that great, tested it on a group of 3 lv 40s, and it barely killed on and put other 2 on low health. Did around 31-35 damage per secound(never even crit high then that). Lasted about 20sec, and was lootable but I didnt get anything. A thing I noticed was it was lv 70 and it took damage.I just added a pic so yall could see

Absolutely pointless in PvP. Absolutely. Maybe for a "Dude, is there a flamethrower on the battlefield" shock effect but, other than that, absolutely pointless. The second it takes to drop this in bg is a second you could have been doing something worthwhile. Most WoW players are idiots, yes, but even idiots move out of fire.Even fire with such a short range and laughable damage.
As for PvE, I'm DPS and any advantage to top the meter is important. I tested it out in Auch Crypts against the swarms of skeletons. Pound for pound, grenades will net you more damage AND a stun and easier mats.
The ONLY time I find it useful is against a boss with a fire mage who has stacked debuffs on him. But that's pretty rare.
Also, as of patch 2.3, I haven't been able to get any of my mats back from looting it out of about 20 tries, even though it is still technically lootable.
Long story short, DO NOT MAKE THESE. EVER.
Gnomes really should leave Engineering to the goblins...

So I was playing around with my engineering today and decided to make one of these just to see how they worked.
Test One was against a lvl 61 Buzzard in Hellfire. I aggroed the Buzzard with a body pull then dropped it and it took the buzzard down to 51% with no help from me.
Test Two was against 5 lvl 60-61 buzzards in Hellfire. I did another body pull to get a group together then dropped the turret. The turret "died" within about 6 seconds and only got the buzzards to about 85%.
Test Three was against 5 more 60-61 Buzzards in Hellfire. I body pulled the group then dropped a consecrate to hold aggro then dropped the turret. Then with just using lvl 4 consecrate and the turret I killed all 5 buzzards very fast (as in a hell of alot faster then it usually takes a prot paladin to kill something) and the turret lived long enough to kill another wandering buzzard before finally konking out.
As a paladin tank I think I will definatly make more of these to use while tanking. I think the trick to these is keeping the aggro off the turret (like a totem).
Happy Engineering!

Hey guys, the turret has come a long way from the beginning.
Before:
Made one at a time
Needed primal fire (inside the adamantite frame)
lasted shorter (seemingly)
Now:
Make three at a time
Materials seem to be easily gotten through daily mining
Seems to last a bit longer than it used to last
LOOTABLE! I got back an adamantite frame and some bolts from various ones I had put down
Cooldown, I think its about 1-2min if any, I was AoEing so I didnt check the button

Yeah the second pic is mine(see name of toon), i dont know how iancurtis took it. Well he pretty much said what i was thinking, but if you check the pic you could see they attracted some aggro which is cool, the enenmy even cursed it. I wouldnt recommend making it, pretty usless. I only use leftovers in groups to impress people whos never seen one.

After playing around with a couple of these, it seems pretty obvious that they're basically targetting dummies with less health, longer maximum lifespan, and short-range AOE.
I certainly don't see a problem with that. =)

While it seems that getting the mats back from looting has been greatly nerfed, these are so immensely fun there is no reason not to carry a stack everywhere.
If your tank holds aggro, and there are a lot of mobs piling on the tank enemies, this toy can add upwards of 200 dps for 45 seconds.
That, and it SHOOTS FIRE. Just great fun.

Ok I've got an idea for this and I want anyone who actually looks at this to help me on how valid this could be, since I've not made one yet. I'm going to make a 39 hunter twink who specializes in Flag Defense on AB and WSG. My plan will be to set up a frozen ground trap, near the flag, and on the of it set up the flame turret, and a dense healing statue, while My pet, My battle chicken and myself wail on anything that goes near the flag. I figure that the frozen ground effect will take them longer to get to any one of the targets they have, including the flag, and I can always wing clip when they get in close, and by the time even up to 3 mobs make it to the flag, they'll be mostly dead from my turret anyway, I'll be able to pick them off one at a time.
