This is the much complained about (by Horde), much celebrated (by Paladins) 'ranged execute' given to Paladins due to their inability to kill targets that just ran away on low health. This ability is quite effective at landing a killing blow, especially if it crits. Crit chance (and damage) are based upon the melee crit chance the paladin has (as opposed to spell crit chance) despite dealing holy damage. This ability will stop casting or fail if the target is healed back above 20% health before the hammer hits the target. This ability can miss, and hardly gets resisted vs other players, what the miss chance is determined by is unknown, most likely the 4% base chance to miss that all abilities have.
The Paladin Equivilant of "Execute", exept it can also be done at range and has a short casting time. You first get this spell at lvl 44. It also has a very cool looking animation and explodes on the target upon impact. =)
This spell gets ~40% of your spell damage added.
This is a good spell for a paladin, especially in instances where its the paladin's job to stop humaniods from fleeing. I, myself, sometimes forget to use Seal of Justice in a dungeon. And it's a pain to chase them down to kill them. With this, all you need to do is use it and face the humanoid. Makes the paladin life so much more easier.

I beg to differ... Holy Shock works quite well actually... esp. when in an instance and your tank dies and you need to get aggro quick-like (this is obviously not for 40-man raid instance), just give the target a holy shock and it works pretty darn good. The mana cost on this is reasonable, but the wait until 20% health on a mob sucks. Anyways... just thought I'd mention the other all-purpose range pally attack... oh and also there's exorcism, so yeah... later days...
Just so u pallys know, this spell works off melee criticals just like command, so the higher u're melee crit rate is, the better. Like SoC, HoW is "holy physical" dmg, as opposed to the typical holy spell dmg of holy shock and SoR. Despite this, HoW still recives +holy dmg buffs, such as JotC, Vengeance, and Sanctity aura.

Wouldn't the icon for Seal of Righteousness make more sense. It shows a hammer flying through the air while HoW shows a hammer being slammed into the ground...
I go into Marshal's Refuge after a long 2 hours of quests. I see 3 yellow "?" and a smile comes upon my face...
As i approach the first NPC, i notice a Female Human Pally, lvl 51, sitting down. I greet her with /hello ...just to show i mean, no harm. As i approach my 2nd NPC...the pally gets up...Stuns me...Throws a Judgement Seal of Right, and begins to pummel away...
Out of reaction, i call George, my Gorilla, and sick him on her...I manage to get a wing clip on her...and then, AOTC to run away...(Pansy, i know)...As i look in my rear view mirrow i notice a Divine Shield is now on her, and George isn't getting ANY work done.
Is was at this point and time, i saw her wind up...wait...and throw a flying hammer aimed for the back of my head...
It killed on impact
She walked over to me
Got on her mount...
And rode away.
i have a paladin and this is very fair(yes im talking to DannydiVit0). Paladins have almost no way to chase people down. They have no movement slowing effects or ranged attack. So blizzard gave them this.
looks like a small hammer that glows bright white and with thunder coming out of it, and when you throw it it spins around, looks awesome in use, and might be ome of the paladins best attacks against runners and clothies
absolutely essential for a paladin to actually finish somebody off. paladins will get no world pvP HKs until 44 if their opponent knows how to turn tail and run.
although u have to wait until they get less than 20% health left, it is very useful when the target is running away. cast this spell and it will usually take them down
prob the best ranged spell for the pally; better than Holy Shock because it does more damage alone. luv it

I just got this spell, it is awsome but does take a fair bit of mana.
It is really handy in BG for when ur target is running away and u cant catch up.
I think this is WoW's version of the Mountain King's Storm Bolt spell from Warcraft 3. This sounds handy for picking off the enemy flag carrier in WSG. Man this spell would've helped the one day it was 2/3 for Horde and Alliance. Our guy died, their flag carrier was almost ready to capture and he was almost dead... I was right behind the Troll trying to finish him off but I couldn't attack fast enough and Hammer of Justice was still cooling off.
This hammer spell looks like you have a tiny mace in your hand when you cast it, then it flys and twirls till it hits you. My friend dueled me and showed it to me :P
Hammer of Wrath is what should be Holy Shock, regarding ratio mana/damage and range.
Or Holy Shock should get other effects apart damage as yet Hammer of Wrath is the spell you want to cast, not Holy Shock, for "an execute". A Blind effect with the damage dealt of Holy Shock might be welcome.
This or that. And not only Holy Shock Healing should work with Illumination, but the normal damaging effect too. It would make the choice to get the talent Holy Shock a valid one, when you already have Hammer of Wrath base.
You cannot cast Holy Shock every 30 seconds so that you gain an edge with Hammer of Wrath that can only be cast at 20% health, Holy Shock costs way too much mana for that, or you then lose the mana of the more efficient holy lights and you weaken yourself.
So what's the point of Holy Shock when one has Hammer of Wrath?
Key word is obsolete. Blizzard, make Holy Shock worth a damn when compared to Hammer of Wrath.
It's great to finally have a way of finishing off mobs without having to use Judgement of Justice (I note that this isn't in Thott's list of skills tho...hmmm) or run after them. I'm lvl46 and have been getting regular crits of around 450 and up to 750 (this is when used with Judgement of the Crusader).

A big concern with pallies for a long time was since they are pretty low in the Dps compartment compared to most, in PvP enemies coulds easily run away from a pallie when they were nearly dead. This is BLizz's answer to that. Basically its a nuke to hopefully finish off peeps who try to flee from a battle.
This would be a far better finishing move if it didn't miss as often. Many is the time where I've been in a difficult fight that's come right down to the wire. Fire off one of these knowing it will finish off my opponent. It misses. And then said opponent finishes me off.
