Be aware that rogues have a passive -20% threat modifier.
SPAM THIS when you're DPS-ing in a raid...if you overaggro everyone will get mad of you and you'll be dead in a blink of the eye.
Learn to vanish imo. Feint is not that useful and used rarely especially encounters in NAXX. The encounters in NAXX are not threat sensitive.
Feint is used but not as much as Feign Death and Vanish, those eliminate all ur aggro from you. Feint only eliminates very little of your aggro, which isnt good since rogues have mad DPS skills.
You can use this but it isnt as great as Vanish.
You no longer need the book from AQ20 to get this skill, it is now trainable at rogue trainers.
the problem with vanish is that is has a long cooldown and may not always be avaliable.....and why bother mentioning feign death?
I use this on my 24 rogue to get rid of threat while we have a tank. I will start with an ambush and since Im specced that way i usually hit for 350+. I get most aggro and then I just feint to bring it to someone else while I spam backstab.
Must have ability for all instances. Is very useful, especially if you have a bad warrior or tank in your group.
not just even if your tank is a good tank... if you get gear that inceased your damage you will be hitting this after every backstab on a mob you meet... using this often will also let the mob your attacking go after the offtank if your main tank dies.
Yeah true. I havent come to a mob so powerful you have to feint to survive as im only just over level30 and so only need to use it to stop myself being tanked or dying at low health from multiples.
As stated above, Feint is useful when you're grouped (quest/instance/raid, doesn't work for PvP/duels obviously) and the tank can't or won't hold the aggro; meaning the mobs will be beating on you, poor little leather-wearer, instead of the guy/girl wearing plate armor.
It re-directs the hate towards someone else in melee range, so the rogue doesn't take all the damage; note that it doesn't always work, especially if your tank doesn't taunt every now and then.
U might don't know but rogues "feint" ability (unlike wariors abilitys) simply removes agro from the player. When i'm fighting in a party and i realise that i have draw to much agro... i use "feint" to make the mob start hiting the tank again (or the poor mage that didnt expect this move)! And this ability is what makes rogues the best damage dealers when u r fighting against mobs!
Have u see the "stelthblade" dagger? I found one on "Sunken temple". I'm not shure but i belive that "fade" is the same thing as "feint". Their deference is that fade cause u draw less agro during its activation.
It isn't like Fade. Same idea, but doesn't work the same. Feint works only on ONE monster, whereas fade works against 1+ monsters. This move is great. You probably been having good tanks if you find this move "useless" or been using it completly wrong. It has saved myself from death a good amount of times in groups. But like I said, you either have a good tank/you're just not using it correctly, or you aren't dealing that much damage to generate enough threat. So it's NOT useless :P
After i began UBRS, i realised how important this really is! Trust me, you will all have use of it some day. Its a must, and only a lowbie will tell you this is useless. If you newer use this, you have to take breaks damaging... unless you want to take aggro and be tank. Thats why 10 energy is worth it, and i rather want tank dead 1'th than me ;D
What does faint look like anyway?
Do you act like a corpse?
My guess is that this skill more acts like the hunters move "Disengage" Which lowers threat instead of a chance to completely get rid of it with feign death. This move will not do any distinct animation, just the main melee strike type deal with some flare attached to it to make it look like ur disengaing with the target or something like that. Basically:
Click to not die
feint and faint are two differnt words
whoever says feint is useless, is retarded
Hunters ability is called Feign Death which removes aggro completley from mobs but can be resisted.
Rogues is as you see faint which is far as good as hunters but it is far away from a worthless skill.
You will use this more or less everytime in instances, espically the higher instances, if you don't need to use this then your dps is gimped and you should find better gear.
And about the post that rogues are the best dps class and just can remove aggro, that is wrong.
Mages can Ice Block, sure it doesn't remove aggro but it gives 10 sec immunity which gives the warrior time to retain aggro, hunters can feign death and warlocks got their thread reduction skill.
No one so far has not been pacific on using the feint. Can someone plz explain ,when i use feint do i use it on the target i am fighting ( before i strike or during the fight) or do i use feint on the aproching mob. Plz offer a example. Also can i use feint while in stealth or not. Im asuming u need a spacific target to direct the fient
Feint is a rogue's "oh crap" button when in instances and groups. Say you're in Deadmines, and you're beating on a mob. If you do more damage, or "hate" than the tank, the mob will switch to attacking you. If you "feint", your hate towards that mob lowers, causing the mob to hit the tank instead of you.
To put it in mathematical terms, hate is all about points. The person with the most hate is the one who the mob will attack.
Before combat, hate points for 1 mob are as follows:
The tank rushes in with a charge, and hits the mob for 70 damage.
** Mob is attacking Warrior.
The rogue jumps in and starts doing damage (lets say he does 50), meanwhile the tank is also doing damage (he does another 60).
** Mob is attacking Warrior.
The warrior is doing sunder armors and still attacking, but suddenly the rogue just landed a huge crit eviscerate for 250 dmg.
** Mob has changed targets and is now attacking the Rogue.
Rogue casts Feint, which lowers hate rating by a small amount (lets say by 80).
** Mob is attacking Warrior.
By using feint, you lower your hate rating against that particular mob and thus save yourself from getting hit.
We're not discussing taunt. We're discussing feint. And, moves like sunder armor and revenge have fixed threat modifiers, meaning they do proxy damage. You're not actually hitting the mob for the extra damage, but it's as if you did. Learn how aggro works before trying to correct me.
Unless someone else is hitting on the same mob, this wont save u. It is not like fade or feign death. Its a hate lowering spell. Quite useful in instances when you'll do much more dmg than the tank. Also one of the reasons why a rogue is better dps than for example mage. Simply cuz the rogue can control his aggro, mages cant do that.
now i am gonna learn it at lvl 50 :)
i was thinking that it was waste of money b4 reddogs explanation ty reddog and Avye you are noob
Feint is not meant to save your ass if you pull aggro, that's Vanish. When you get good weapons, Feint will become part of your rotation, think about that...every 10 seconds, for 20 energy you remove over 1 thousand threat from the mob. That's amazing, that means you can deal more damage without pulling aggro.
(I'm referring to the level 70 one).
People keep comparing this ability to Feign Death... that is so untrue.
Feint is "equal" to Disengage, bcuz they both (permanently) remove a set amount of threat, like RedDog so perfectly explained.
Feign Death is more similar to Vanish, bcuz they both (permanently) wipe ALL aggro.
And: Fade is not really "similar" to any of the 4 mentioned abilities, Fade is a TEMPORARY aggro-reducer.
lol this is a crapy move... its not cool i have a 60 hunter i got the fake death at 30 and rogues get it at lvl 16 :(
