This spell defines one of the purposes of a mage in instances - crowd control.
When in an instance, facing multiple mobs, always try to sheep one. Tell your party which one you're going to polymorph, so they don't attack and break it - either use a /say macro, or, if you're leader, put a raid icon on the mob.
Be smart when using this spell:
a) Keep the regeneration in mind. Don't cast it on something which is about to die - it restores their hp and other stats very quickly, so this is just giving it a potion and making you and perhaps your party's life harder.
b) Don't cast on a mob which someone is attacking, unless it is vital for you to sheep it, in which case tell the person to stop slashing away first; otherwise, it's a waste of mana.
c) Don't run around AEing, or Blizzard, or any other AoE spell afterwards - this just breaks the sheep.
d) Don't sheep after a DoT has been put on the targetted mob, as the damage will break the effect.
Do this well, and your party will love you. You will also have one less beast/humanoid to kill when facing multiple ones!
Certain classes have PvP trinkets which can break Polymorph. Engineers can also create un-polymorph trinkets, and priests can dispel magic.
I personally think that this is one of the best things blizzard could have done... no more going into a BG and having a mage sheep you then just sit back and keep sheeping you until back up comes or the mage is fully rested up and can take you down ... 30sec sheeps were just far to much for BG's.
Thank you Blizzard,
This spell is a very good one and with the add-on u can get from Curse-Gaming MCpoly 0.4, you make your hot key. While in a group, when a group member gets mind control you hit the hot key and that person gets polyed which has saved my group a few hundred times, it saves you from having to target the party member thats MCed. All you do is hit the hotkey :)
Great for when you pull one too many enemies. Providing this spell lands, of course (which enemies are more likely to resist at earlier levels), then it has a multitude of uses. Like saving your hide.
too bad u can't cast this on a friendly!
u could heal a non-tank really fast :)
The polymorphing abilty is not unfair, it's another way for a mage defend. Rogues have no prob. with mage, warriors just charge. Otherwise, if you don't interrupt their cast; you deserve to be polyed, then (if they have no chance) blinked!
anyone actually know how much more regen there is?
all i know that its really really fast...
Where exactly can you learn this? I learned everything from the trainer in Northshire Abby. Where is there another trainer? I found a bunch for every other class but a mage in Goldshire. Anyone?
go to the 2nd floor inn the loins pride in walk strait from the stairs
if you spammed this on a guy underwater would he die of not breathing?
Whats the point of getting this all it does is change from sheep to pig. why would you wast like 20 minutes just to get something that changes its looks.
The first time I saw polymorph, I threw myself off of my roof because I thought it was so maniacally stupid. Turn person into sheep? What the heck?.
A little while later I bought it to make a statement that i was stupid as well as all other mages and i found out what level stupid had been brought to by Polymorph. i FREAKIN LOVE IT! the only defect is the regen thing. Not cool. "Go make a dumb thing even dumber." Blizzard thought to themselves. They obviously thought of regen on polymorph while they were eatin Lambchops and wanted more lambchops really really bad. But don't get me wrong... Polymorph is still really usefull.
What do you get by leveling up Polymorph? is there a less chance of resist? seems like a waste of gold to me...
I notice a lot of folks doing that- icing, then sheeping.... isn't that a bit... i don't know... stupid? doesn't it just waste a good frost nova?
I usually sheep, then frostbolt, then fireball/fire blast. by that time, they're about 10 yards away, so THEN I nova. then they're stuck again, ready for me to back up, frostbolt again, fireball again, ya know lather, rinse repeat. Then I run and arcan missle, slowing them more with frost armor until frost nova is back. If they survive that, they are eather many levels above, immune, lucky or twinks.
Why would anyone want to Polymorph a critter?
It would be SO cool if you could shear some wool off the sheep and use it to make armor or something.
for fun ;)
