Abilities Earned While Leveling from 50 to 60 in Shadowlands
The Level Squish necessitated a reassigning of the Levels at which each Ability is learned. Inevitably some of those fell beyond the maximum Level for Battle for Azeroth. These are the Abilities that Death Knights will gain access to as they level through Shadowlands.
Shadowlands Abilities Earned Between 50 and 60

- level 54 - Sacrifice your ghoul to deal (75% of Attack power) Shadow damage to 8 nearby enemies and heal for 25% of your maximum health.

- level 58 - While you have at least 5 Bone Shield charges, the cost of Death Strike is reduced by 5 Runic Power. Additionally, your maximum Runic Power is increased by 10.

Blizzard's Death Knight Patch Notes
Blizzard has released Patch Notes including the class changes for Shadowlands. The following is the class change summary for Death Knights.
Dark Command is now learned at level 9 (was 14).
Anti-Magic Shell is now learned at level 14 (was 9).
Blood
Death and Decay damage has been increased by 25%.
Death Strike damage has been increased by 21%.
Classes: Death Knight
General
Rune Strike is no longer a Blood Death Knight Talent and has been redesigned to be a Rune spender and Runic Power generating ability used during the initial Death Knight leveling experience. Rune Strike will be replaced with Festering Strike, Heart Strike or Howling Blast when a specialization has been chosen.
When swapping weapons, the Off Balance debuff is applied and prevents the Death Knight from gaining the bonuses of Runeforge enchantments for 30 seconds.
All Death Knights can now use the following abilities:
Death Coil – Fires a blast of unholy energy at the target, causing Shadow damage to an enemy or healing an Undead ally.
Death and Decay – Corrupts the targeted ground, causing Shadow damage over 10 seconds to targets within the area.
Raise Dead – Raises a ghoul to fight by your side for 1 minute. Only one ghoul can be up at a time.
Chains of Ice – Shackles the target with frozen chains, reducing movement speed by 70% for 8 seconds.
Lichborne – Draw upon unholy energy to become Undead for 10 seconds, increasing Leech by 10%, and making you immune to Charm, Fear, and Sleep.
Anti-Magic Zone – Places an Anti-Magic Zone for 10 seconds that reduces spell damage taken by party or raid members by 20%.
Runeforging now has five new runes available to engrave upon your weapon:
Rune of Sanguination – Your Death Strike deals increased damage based on the target’s missing health. When you fall below 35% health, you heal for 50% of your maximum health over 6 seconds. Can only occur once every 5 minutes.
Rune of Spellwarding – Deflects 3% of all spell damage and has chance to create a shield that absorbs magic damage equal to 10% of your maximum health. When an enemy damages the shield, their cast speed is reduced by 10% for 6 seconds.
Rune of Hysteria – Increases maximum Runic Power by 20 and your attacks have a chance to increase Runic Power generation by 20% for 8 seconds.
Rune of Unending Thirst – When you kill an enemy that yields experience or honor, gain 5% Haste, 5% movement speed and heals you for 5% of your maximum health. Additionally, increases your movement speed while dead by 10%.
Rune of the Apocalypse – Your ghoul's attacks have a chance to apply an additional effect:
Famine: Reduces damage dealt to the Death Knight.
Death: Reduces healing done.
Pestilence: Slows the target and deals damage over time.
War: Increases damage taken from the Death Knight.
PvP Talent changes:
Lichborne has been removed.
Blood
Rune Tap is no longer a Talent and will be learned by all Blood Death Knights at level 19. Additionally, Rune Tap has two charges and the global cooldown is removed.
The following Talents have been adjusted:
New Talent: Relish in Blood – While Crimson Scourge is active, your next Death and Decay heals you per Bone Shield charge and you immediately gain 10 Runic Power.
New Talent: Death Pact – Create a death pact that heals you for 50% of your maximum health, but absorbs incoming healing equal to 30% of your maximum health for 15 seconds.
Mark of Blood has had its Runic Power cost removed and healing increased to 3% (was 2%).
Rapid Decomposition now has an additional effect – Your Blood Plague leeches 50% more health.
Anti-Magic Barrier now reduces the cooldown of Anti-Magic Shell by 20 seconds (was 15 seconds) and increases its duration and amount absorbed by 40% (was 30%).
Voracious now grants you 15% Leech for 8 seconds (was 6 seconds) and has an additional effect – Death Strike's healing is increased by 20%.
Red Thirst now reduces the cooldown on Vampiric Blood by 1.5 seconds per 10 Runic Power spent (was 1 second).
Consumption and Bonestorm now capped at 8 targets.
Ossuary has been removed and will be learned by all Blood Death Knights in Shadowlands.
PvP Talent changes:
New PvP Talent: Rot and Wither – Your Death and Decay rots enemies each time it deals damage, absorbing healing equal to 100% of damage dealt.
Unholy Command has been removed.
Frost
Obliterate, Frost Strike, Frostscythe and Glacial Advance can now be used with two-handed weapons.
New Passive: Might of the Frozen Wastes
Rank 1: While dual-wielding your Obliterate and Frost Strike will also strike with your off hand and you can engrave each weapon with a Runeforge Enchant.
Rank 2: Increases your Obliterate damage by 35% and Killing Machine Proc chance when using a two-handed weapon.
Frostwyrm's Fury is no longer a Talent and will be learned by all Frost Death Knights at level 44.
Empower Rune Weapon and Pillar of Frost no longer have a global cooldown.
Howling Blast and Breath of Sindragosa now deal reduced damage on secondary targets.
The following Talents have been adjusted:
New Talent: Hypothermic Presence – Embrace the ice in your veins, reducing the Runic Power cost of your abilities by 35% for 8 seconds.
Runic Attenuation proc rate has been adjusted to bring Dual Wield and Two-Handed closer together and the Runic Power gain has been increased to 5 (was 3).
Blinding Sleet now has an additional effect – When Blinding Sleet ends, enemies are slowed by 50% for 6 seconds.
Icecap now reduces the remaining cooldown of Pillar of Frost by 4 seconds (was 3 seconds).
Frostscythe now capped at 5 targets.
Unholy
Mastery: Dreadblade now also increases the damage of your Minion’s abilities.
Epidemic is no longer a Talent and will be learned by all Unholy Death Knights at level 34. Additionally, Epidemic’s range has been reduced to 40 yards (was 100 yards) and will fail to cast if there are no nearby enemies afflicted with Virulent Plague.
Sudden Doom now causes your auto attacks to have a chance to make your next Death Coil or Epidemic cost no Runic Power.
Scourge Strike now prefers targets with Festering Wounds while inside Death and Decay.
Outbreak duration of Virulent Plague increased to 28 seconds (was 21 seconds).
Virulent Plague no longer has a 30% chance for infected enemies to erupt to nearby enemies each time it deals damage, and area of effect range increased to 10 yards (was 8 yards).
Army of the Dead Rune cost reduced to 1 (was 3).
Scourge Strike and Clawing Shadows now capped at 5 targets while inside Death and Decay. Both abilities will prefer targets inflicted with Festering Wound.
The following Talents have been adjusted:
New Talent: Unholy Pact – Dark Transformation creates an unholy pact between you and your pet, igniting flaming chains that deals Shadow damage over 15 seconds to enemies between you and your pet. While active, your Strength is increased by 5%.
Unholy Blight's disease now stacks up to 4 times and has an additional effect – Your minions deal 3% increased damage per stack to enemies affected by Unholy Blight. Additionally, it applies Virulent Plague to enemies.
Soul Reaper has been reworked and now costs 1 Rune and has a 6 second cooldown. Strike an enemy for Shadow damage and afflict the enemy with Soul Reaper. After 5 seconds, if the target is below 35% health this effect will explode dealing additional Shadow damage to the target. If an enemy dies while afflicted gain Runic Corruption.
Defile now has an additional effect – If any enemies are standing in the Defile, it grows in size and deals increasing damage every second.
Army of the Damned now has an additional effect – Apocalypse and Army of the Dead summon a Magus of the Dead for 15 seconds who hurls Frostbolts and Shadow Bolts at your foes.
Unholy Frenzy has been reworked and renamed Unholy Assault. Strike your target with an unholy blow dealing Shadow damage, infecting the target with 4 Festering Wounds, and sending you into a killing frenzy, increasing haste by 20% for 12 seconds.
Bursting Sores now capped at 8 targets.

has been target capped at 5, and its damage has increased by 15%. The grip has also been updated so it may only pull the same target every 4 seconds. This change was made to prevent it from encouraging the Death Knight to repeatedly walk out of range and then pull the same target.
We’ve also added a new functionality to the ability that grants
白骨之盾
charges,
白霜
, or
符文腐蚀
(based on spec) the first time the Limb pulls an enemy (this only occurs once). We hope this change will broaden the usage of the ability outside of PvP.
失格者之梏
has had its damage increased by 15%, but no longer has its cooldown reduced when spending runes. Instead of the cooldown reduction, it now works as follows: “While Shackle the Unworthy is active on an enemy, your direct-damage attacks that spend runes have a 50% chance to spread Shackle the Unworthy to a nearby enemy”.
We hope this change gives the ability a more active playstyle and creates more situations where it might be more useful than its previous iteration.

We've continued to work from feedback that the Unholy opener can take too long to get going. Even with attempts to help alleviate this issue over the last few weeks, it's still not where we would like it to be.Unholy has quite a few iconic abilities and they aren't easily removed. Thus, our goal with this week's latest build is to reduce the number of cooldowns in the opener, help out Rune economy, and give access to a baseline AoE Runic Spender.

This week’s Shadowlands build has a few updates to address recent Unholy feedback. Our focus with these changes is: Rune economy, Scourge Strike not preferring targets with Festering Wounds, and the start sequence.
Scourge Strike now prefers targets with Festering Wounds while inside Death and Decay
Apocalypse has a new rank upgrade, learned at level 58, that causes it to generate 2 Runes.
Unholy Blight now applies Virulent Plague to enemies it hits.
Unholy Strike is renamed Unholy Assault, the Rune cost is removed, and the haste increased back to 20%.
Soul Reaper’s cooldown is reduced to 6 seconds (was 8 seconds) to help promote more gameplay around the ability and its duration.

Adding 2h to frost does nothing when 1h will still be the only viable play style because breath exists. 1h scales harder with mastery, and breath scales with mastery. Hopefully the frost damage on obliterate will actually scale correctly and make it viable, though with the increased gcd of 2h it's unlikely.
Don't get me wrong, I've been dying to have 2h back since wod and I'm glad it's making a comeback.
I've said this on multiple posts in the past, breath needs to be removed. It's near impossible to tune and it's the only viable talent for 95% of content. Go back to mop dk.
Not to mention, none of these changes deal with the problematic downtime that frost dk has experienced since the end of legion. NONE OF THIS ADDRESSES DOWNTIME, not a single thing. That means that 40% downtime we had back in uldir will happen again because the only thing that helped was stats/essences/azerite traits.
And Since stats are usually terrible at the start of an expansion, and we don't have essences and azerite (nor do I want them as bandaids) we'll once again be so slow we're not playing the game nearly 50% of the time.
I know it's still early, I'm just hoping blizzard addresses the downtime issue rather than bandaiding it like they have been for nearly two expansions.
-Previously a 95+ percentile frost dk, rerolled at the end of Uldir due to how unplayable the spec felt. (I don't care if it was the best spec in Uldir, it felt terrible to play, I had never not had fun with my spec until that tier.)
Another reason I'm pretty upset that none of this is addressed is because they're gutting outlaw which is what I swapped to for raiding once I put down DK.
I know unholy is getting some good changes, but it's never been a spec I've enjoyed unfortunately.

TL:DR Main points
- Downtime is going to be terrible again if rune starvation isn't addressed early in the expansion rather than bandaided by stats/more systems. 40% downtime is not okay, and may be worse with the increased GCD of 2h if it's viable.
- 2h Doesn't matter if 1h is the only viable playstyle because breath and mastery synergize. 2h doesn't synergize with mastery, only crit/haste and probably verse now. Even less viable if 1h can have 2 runeforges since the new ones are kinda bonkers.
If anyone tries to say "then just don't take breath." That's not how maximizing your dps works. It's frost dk's best talent by far (unfortunately) literally no other talent compares in any situation. There was a time when obliteration became viable for like, half a patch In Antorus, and then I think for m+ in BoD because reaping I wasn't playing my dk then though, so I can't say I'm 100% on that. Classes should be designed around high end play and not just casuals who are okay hitting 1 button every 3-8 seconds. (Yes, I had gaps in my rotation where every 2-3 obliterates i'd have to wait 8 full seconds to do anything.)
Not to mention! At one point, it was a common occurrence you wouldn't get a rime proc in the entire duration of frost fever and would either have to hope you got one, or manually apply frost fever which just wastes another rune. :) It's like blizzard messed up the % chance for oblit to proc rime, because I can tell you it sure as hell didn't feel like a 45% chance. (While it did in tomb and before all before the resource nerfs because we were keeping breath up for it's entire cd.)
SECOND EDIT: With the new runeforges, 2h will even be less viable if 1h is able to have two, there's no way it'll compare. Hopefully blizz lets us either have two, or caps it/halves it for 1h.
THIRD EDIT: It's recently come to my attention after resubbing that high end frost dks (top % players for mythic) have been taking icecap in some situations, which is nice and all, but unfortunately, all frost dk talents are lackluster and oddly enough (even though I hate breath) icecap adds nothing to the class. Pillar is fun to use more often yeah, but obliteration is the only "fun" talent frost has aside from frostscythe (Which honestly should be a baseline ability.)
FOURTH EDIT: Since I've seen a few other comments talking about blood dk, honestly the spec should just be reverted to how it was in mop when it was actually fun, the Legion revamp was a mistake, there's nothing fun about it. BLOOD ALSO SUFFERS FROM RUNE STARVATION, and again nothing about it is being fixed.
Not everyone wants to play unholy dk, some of us have been maining frost/blood for our entire wow lives, I really hope this post finds its way to someone who can actually do something about it, because this is ridiculous. There's so many specs getting swept under the rug, and it's not okay.

These changes are welcome but i still have high doubt of the class overall. hope we get real scaling and damage not a joke like every xpac since dk launch.
BLOOD -> still have issue where you get oneshooted in m +, there is no reason to stress the *!@# out when playing tank with little less than 1 sec to react or dead, i have never seen blood dk being so pathetic since legion start. almost all dungeon are a pain for wrist (like a lot), meanwhile you can easily tank in war tank and probably heal more, bdk have lost all his uniqueness and identity to all other tanks, freaking sad for the father spec of all tanking style now.... hope we get some buffs or lower dmg in general.
don't get me wrong playstyle is good, its just need to be a more forgiving against high dmg burst that are not always predictable
new abilities seems a bit weak like tap and consumption. we already saw them in legion, they were average abilities.
FROST -> change seems good, just need to see if the design is more acceptable than BFA. Scaling and dmg will be the heart of what we expect from blizzard.at BFA frost dk probably won the boring trophee with many other useless spec ( hello wet noodle dmg ). i am very curious about new rune , 2h spec and the balance around it.
UH-> very promising ,like old days we need will need another rows of binds o_o, hope this will be good to play in both pve and pvp. And make that necrotic boy hit thicc number of healing absorb.
overall -> let more offensive abilities pass the gcd, it feel too clunky and awkward, we saw that too many months now, its boring for everyone.
Tone all dmg in the game but this was a core mechanic to wow to know when to burst at the right moment, it was part of gameplay ! not a feature.

Blood is still gonna be a case of 'how can I tank this while relying on a shipload of vers, vamp blood, trinkets and decay slow in m+, while still keeping aggro?'
I've played dk since wrath and by far, this expansion has been a ride. Only in 8.3 have I felt I can pull out my weight cuz of essences and corruption (mention azerite for blood and I will wack you, cuz none of bdk azerite matters!)
Frost suffers as forementioned by the ducking downtime. I've played around with it in m+ and yes, x3 frostwelp will do the aoe deeps, but in single target, forget it. I can pull out 25k more single target as unholy by simply swapping weapon and azerite, and yet still I wont sit there, waiting on a gcd.
Only brightpoint in this is unholy, and by the gods it looks sweet. Mastery changes and talent swaps (and introductuon of azerite in disguise) is fine and dandy. Got a creeping feeling it aint gonna last though.
My assessment of dk in shadowlands, unless they change how blood manages mitigation ( give tombstone baseline on a 15 sec cd and buff the living !@#$ outta it or something, damn!) And how frost is still gonna be breathe till you die or rip, unholy is prolly gonna see more play than blood (or frost, yikes)

So disappointed with the DK changes, especielly frost since that is what i've been maining. Got excited to hear about 2H wich now only seem to be nothing more than a transmog. Also more and more make me believe the Breath specc is even more viable now which is sad, how boring isn't that spec? Was hoping for some change to gameplay or w/e, all im doing now is trying to find a new main to play.

So Blood is already super squishy in high keys and got all of it's armour taken away in Uldir and now blizz plans to also nerf our stamina bonus from veteran of the third was from 60% down to 50%? What a joke, I like the addition of rune tap being baseline but we need more defensiveness outside of cd's, not less!

Barring all the issues with double runes and 2H and assuming it will all work fine, 2H might
FINALLY
make Glacial Advance a relevant talent.
All it needs is to be able to hit the same target twice per cast so it's able to reliably apply Razorice.
Coupled with a decent animation (seriously what even is the one we have on live supposed to be?) I'd be happy to embrace it.
