The Things We Do...
It has been almost one year (probably a bit more, right) since the achievements system was introduced to the game. And with the achievements system - one very particular achievement.
. Now that Brewfest is back around the corner, many of us are finally getting our chance to finish the trip and be rightfully awarded with a beautiful

(that flies at 310% speed, but we want it for the beauty, of course). But how many of you stopped while doing all those achievements, and thought "
Man, what I am doing is a complete absurd! I have morals, I should not be doing this for some drake!
" Yea, I didn't either...
But now that we are almost done with our lovely trip, I thought I would put a list of all the weird things we've done over the last year, trying to get the Violet Proto-drake. Read on, and enjoy the (long, strange) trip!

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Addiction King!
Once upon a time, there was a Wowhead user who had a hard time managing his schoolwork because of World of Warcraft. But, as he had been playing WoW for over three years, he was reluctant to cancel his subscription. After a week of contemplation, he finally found enough strength to cancel. He even e-mailed Malgayne to have his Wowhead account banned too, hoping it would help his attempt to quit WoW.
The account’s next billing payment had been due in a week, so he figured that it would be a good time to cancel the recurring subscription. After that week had passed it was official: his WoW account was no longer active and his Wowhead account was banned until his return. Unfortunately, this did not stop him from continuing to read both the official forums and Wowhead’s forums. The urge to resubscribe was growing bigger by the day, but this user was determined to quit anything WoW-affiliated altogether until he could get his life back under control.

Patch 3.2: Call of the Crusade Review
So 3.2 is upon us, and the Argent Coliseum is live! There's been a lot of coverage leading up to the new patch, and a lot of coverage now that it's out, but I thought you guys could use a single rundown for everything—which means that you are about to get a full-blown review of the Call of the Crusade, and all its awesomeness!

MMOs: Not Just For Kids!
So here I was, reading through the official forums, when I found a thread that looked interesting. I'll spare you the unnecessary details of the thread, but the person who wrote the thread claimed to have been eighty-eight-years-old when it was written back in April of this year. New Icons in PTR Build 10083
Build 10083 of the PTR was released today. In it were some small updates to spells, but nothing extravagant. I was about to end my day in The Datamines when I came across a rare boss: Iconus! As you know, you almost never see Iconus unless a new version of WoW is on the horizon, so when I saw him I was eager to take advantage of the opportunity. The skull beside his portrait worried me, but I had leveled many times since our last encounter and I figured I could take him down by myself.
I was wrong.
I gathered as many guild members as I could and we went back into The Datamines. 42 wipes, 250g in repairs, and plenty of cursing later, we downed Iconus. Nearly salivating, I looted his corpse... and found

new icon. :(
Furthermore, it was not an upgrade for any of us. However, it is Bind on Equip. Who wants it?

Dusting Off Those Retired Characters
Because of Blizzard's recent announcements that
mounts
and
other speed-boosting forms
will be attainable at lower levels, I have finally found the motivation to do something I probably haven't done in a very, very long time: Log onto World of Warcraft and level up some characters which I thought were going to be in permanent retirement.
That's right. Up until recently, I haven't been playing World of Warcraft mainly because of school, but also because I haven't found the motivation. With the exciting upcoming changes, however, it looks like that long-lost motivation has finally come.

Okay bear with me, guys—this one takes a little while getting in.
In
Secret of Mana
, two of your three characters have magic, up to a maximum of 99 magic points at a time. Your offensive caster has an MP absorb spell, but aside from that, the only way to restore your magic points mid-dungeon is to use a Fairy Walnut, which restores 50 MP. You can only hold a maximum of four.
By limiting the selection of mana-restoring items to one item type, which only restores mana in one large chunk, the game has rendered it almost pointless to increase your maximum mana above 50.

You, Summer Vacation, and WoW
Hey, guys. I've been so busy since last week studying for finals that I haven't had any time to post blogging entries. Now that school is almost over, I'll have a little more time to post entries and keep you excited users busy!
Anyway, moving on...
I've been playing World of Warcraft for over three years. That's three summer vacations I've been through since I started playing. Considering I have two parents who work full time, I usually spend about three days a week home alone. With very little things to do while my parents are at work, what I usually end up doing is playing World of Warcraft.

Blizzard once said that they would like to release a new expansion every year or so and this has gotten people thinking, "After Arthas, what comes next?" Don't get me wrong, I personally feel no need to rush the release of the next expansion—I mean, we still haven't defeated Arthas. But after Arthas, what will our 1337 characters all pimped out in Frozen Throne purples do next?

Making Those Tough Decisions In-Game
Recently a user, who insisted on anonymity, approached me on IRC and asked me for in-game advice. Not knowing what he was going to ask, I blindly agreed and he explained the situation to me. Basically, he was having a hard time contemplating as to whether he should purchase an heirloom bow to benefit his level 40 hunter or if he should save his valor badges to upgrade his level 80 Death Knight's gear. Bear in mind that his level 40 hunter was his first character ever and that he plans on leveling him up to 80 at some point, and his Death Knight is his main character that's well-geared.
Much to my surprise, I was able to give him what he called the "best piece of advice someone could ever give" in spite of the fact that I have very little experience with WoTLK content.

Taking a Break Can Ease Challenges
Have any of you taken a

recently? I know I have. Sometimes you need some time away from things to clear your head. Maybe catch up on a few chores or errands you put off recently. I remember last playing World of Warcraft a few months ago. I was working on an

which was timed. I thought it was really fun, but it was kind of hard at the time, too.
Whether I'm trying to pull off a huge combo in a skateboarding game or trying to solve a riddle in a role-playing game I feel as though my work would be complete if only I could achieve that one special goal. Of course, it seldom happens that way for me.

Maintenance Complainers: Justified?
Every single Tuesday on North American servers and every single Wednesday on EU servers, Blizzard takes down their servers for maintenance. Sometimes it's for full maintenance, and other times it's for rolling restarts. Since this has been the normal routine for over four years now, one thing really confuses me. It's not the fact that Blizzard even
does
maintenance in the first place; rather, what confuses me is the fact that players still complain about it. It makes me wonder why they complain about in the first place, and if they've not found a way to cope with the 6-8 hour inconvenience.
