> The major pitfall is less precise cursor control, making things like mouseover macros and raidframe healing a little bit more difficultIt really is not that difficult. Practice, or larger frames, problem solved. I've healed 20s in BfA S4, healing 14s and up now with a controller. You do need to set things up first, and practice a bit, but after that, it's not anymore difficult than keyboard + mouse. But then, getting used to a new UI, or a new setup takes practice anyway.
One of our tanks has been doing this as long as i've known them.
I've been playing using gamepad and CP since 2019 in both Retail and Classic with success on both DPS and Healer. I must admit that addition of native support in Shadowlands is very good step.
No 1 M+ DK tank in the world plays on controller
I'll have to count the number of actions I have bound on my Mistweaver but I'm confident it's above 30 and I doubt I can realistically have everything mapped.Druids have the "chance" to have some of their skills locked behind shape shifting which allows for binding several actions on the same button which massively increases controller support friendliness. As a healer in higher key you need to both use your dps rotation and your healing on top of all your utility. That's a lot of keybinds and I don't see it working optimally on a controller. I'm a controller support advocate because some people cannot use a mouse and keyboard, but I don't think the game allows for optimal play with a controller support in every situation. As a dps/tank sure, why not. As a healer who doesn't idle when no heal is needed it's a no-no for me.
I actually have a controller coming tomorrow because I find playing RDR2 incredibly awful on KBM. It's like Skyrim for me, and I can't play Skyrim on KBM! I've considered trying WoW on a controller, and tbh, I play BDK, so not like I have a lot of buttons LOL. This is encouraging.
Not to undermine his achievement, but playing on a controler is actually pretty confortable when you're dps or a tank. Other than a few "target priorities" (like kicking a certain ability, which is easily done with a few @focus macros), it's more than manageable (not saying it's easy, it's definitely harder than with a mouse, but doable). Now, doing this on a healer ....
I got 1400 at arena as fury warrior playing with the controller, it's a little difficult to learn but it's possible to play
