While I have been able to play the game off of a SSD, I can honestly say that the SSD made it better for me. I used to disconnect because of loading time out every time I hearthed to my most developed garrison, allowing me to hearth to it after logging back in from the DC. Legion Dalaran came close to loading disconnect for me.When I installed my SSD, I was able to actually hearth to my garrison without disconnect and even Legion Dal loaded up much faster. I can say a SSD would be a good upgrade to play WoW with, but I wouldn't call it required at least. At least, not required yet. If they do areas that are very detailed, and I mean more detailed than their style currently gives, then maybe I would say the SSD would be required. So, I'm with people who are and are not for the SSD. With them because of the load time decrease, but with the others when I say that it currently isn't needed to enjoy the game. Would it help? Heck yeah, but it isn't required. Only areas I can see this really being an issue for people would be LFR. Even loading into a pug of Nyalotha for a AOTC kill took me a while before the SSD upgrade. Is it required? No. Will it negatively affect your enjoyment of the game? No unless you're impatient. Will it improve your enjoyment of the game? Very much yes, but again isn't required if you're patient.
I'd say every computer is capable of running one. You can always replace HDD with one of these.
it depends what you play it. A PC vs Laptop. A beast vs a recommended. A good SSD vs a crappy SSD. The numbers by itself doesnt mean much
Wouldn't make much difference. Almost every single piece of software in existence today targets a HDD as a base minimum, and therefore were never programmed to load data that would take advantage of the much higher speeds of an NVME drive. Just like how the PS5 and XBOXSX are accelerating their game load times massively, it requires a ton of rework from the game engines as well as specific hardware to decompress all that assets without compromising performance.Unfortunately for us most engines WoW included have not been updated to take full advantage of all the processing capabilities of modern hardware. Hopefully they will one day.
Someone told me yes thats possible!
I've had WoW on a SSD now since 2016 and it's well worth it.
They should have added M.2 PCIe as well. Modern machines come equipped with the slots and the differences are as stark as spindle versus SSD (on SATA).
And if you really want to go crazy, set up two SSDs in a Raid-0 array. That's almost twice as fast as a single SSD.
