with the level squish i hope they do what tali said in the video. i want to skip BC WOTK CATA and draenor zones. i wanna quest in either legion or pandaria to 60. that would be great and more motivating for me to level more characters
Thing about leveling through one expansion to see it's story is that the leveling zones only ever set the scene for the expansion and provided the introduction to the story. So you could level through Legion, say, and you would see Val'Sharah and Shaladrassil corrupted, Malfurion captured, Cenarius disappear and Ysera die but unless you go beyond the introductory zones you can't follow the story, in this case into the Emerald Nightmare to see the conclusion of those story lines. And suramar, even if the zone was open as a leveling zone rather than max level, is developed through the long weekly campaign that led up to the Nighthold being opened and in the raid itself. There is still worth in seeing the zones and the story lines that play out in them but you only get full value when you play through when it's live and current. Seeing half the story or, worse, 90% with the conclusion gated behind a raid, has always been a problem with leveling content that isn't current and presumably still would be.Leveling is really just getting your character ready for more significant challenges at max level, the longer that takes (and not the number of gates you have to pass or levels gain) the more of a barrier it is.
Great video as alway. Agree on the xp turn off, but am not a big fan of the level squish. But I guess I'm OK if it actually happens. I don't really agree with the point about playing anything 20-60, because there are some quests and areas of expansions that I really don't like at all. I can just ignore those with current leveling.
His idea is fantastic, I'd really like to see it implemented. I think the problem for most of us isn't that leveling faster would skip content, it's that we've already seen it all soooo many times, so we just hurry through. Maybe a way to make leveling be normal for the first time through, and then every time after it gets easier? Just anything. Because it's sad to see all of the previous content no longer matter to anyone. Hell, we don't even use our Dalaran stone to portal hop anymore.
I don't recall any stat squishes or level squishes in any of the other Blizzard products. Since there is a Diablo 2&3, StarCraft 2, Warcraft 2 & 3 & Reforged , maybe it's time to consider a "World of Warcraft 2". For the amount of effort it seems a level squish would entail, maybe it's time for a World of Warcraft 2 instead.
