In Blizzard's latest WoW Classic with Creators video, they interview Tom Chilton, who served as a Senior Game Designer during vanilla WoW, designing all the different talents. Tom Chilton later served as the Game Director for World of Warcraft from Cataclysm through late 2016.
One notable memory from vanilla development with Chris Metzen incensed that Night Elves were riding orange tiger in promotional materials--Chris believed that Night Elves should only ride dark tigers, never an orange tiger. This likely explains why the mounts
