Progress and Onslaught Set New Speed Clear Records in Blackwing Lair and Molten Core
active in Classic WoW, this week is one for speed clearing, as we've already seen two new speed records set. <Onslaught> of Skeram (US) powered through both
in 19:14 and
in 18:55 yesterday, breaking the previous records by over a minute in each instance, only to have <Progress> of Firemaw (EU) beat their
speed by nearly 20 seconds for an 18:51 first place record.
With speed clears being one of the defining metrics of competition in Classic, guilds are going to great lengths to gain every advantage they can. In addition to being
well geared, with Onslaught sporting a dozen High Warlord Warriors and Progress bringing
to the raid, they used an alarming amount of consumables as well, with <Onslaught> using 39
between their 10 healers. Preparation aside, much of the speed strategies involve
pulling trash into bosses and cleaving them down
, and even speed running through the Suppression Room quickly enough to kill Broodlord Lashlayer while Vaelastrasz's
is still active on the raid.
Progress' Record Breaking Blackwing Lair Clear
Onslaught's Blackwing Lair & Molten Core Clears - Mature Language Warning
Both guilds made mistakes during their clears, so despite the record breaking speed, they are by no means "perfect runs". That said, the Darkmoon Faire runs through next Sunday, so it's likely we'll see more records set and broken in the coming days. It's also important to remember that WarcraftLogs has
rather strict criteria
for what is considered a "legitimate" run, disallowing the use of invisibility potions and requiring a specific amount of trash mobs to be killed rather than skipped, not too dissimilar from the rules governing Mythic+ dungeons in retail WoW.
