Just a quick update today. I thought it was worth pointing out that the
official patch notes
listed on the
European WoW Site
contained a very interesting note:
Mining veins and deposits no longer require multiple hits to receive all the ore. Players will receive around the same amount of ore, stone, and gems they would have received from multiple hits.
What's that? I can't hear you over the sound of millions of miners rejoicing.
The really interesting thing about this is that it's actually hard to figure out whether this is fair. One the one hand, this is long overdue. Mining is the only profession that has to harvest a node multiple times in before it moves on – Herbalists and skinners just click, and they're done.
But then, the gather professions have always been balanced around this idea. You get a lot more ore from three or four times mining a mineral node than you do from harvesting an herb, and there are a lot more "skinning nodes" than there are mining nodes. So is this change going to unbalance the gathering professions? And is Blizzard going to care, or is it too late to even bother with the leveling process for professions at this point?
