Efficient Honor Point Grinding in Shadowlands Patch 9.0.5

I am going to cover how to efficiently gain Honor and provide a few tips on how to maximize it in Shadowlands. Whether you are on the never-ending journey that is
or just upgrading your gear, I'm sure there is something in this article for you!
About the Author
My name is
. I have been playing this game for over a decade starting in The Burning Crusade. Since then I have been on a journey to essentially beat the game in everyway; collecting, achievements, mounts, PvP, PvE, etc. I am and have been a Balance Druid main since day one. I Mythic Raid in the US guild <Might> on Zul'Jin. My PvP experience includes being a 5 time Gladiator and have RBG'd at 2900 multiple times. I continuously play to try to find the most efficient way of grinding honor, rating, and other aspects of the game.
(15% Battle Standard),
(10% Standard of Unity), and
(5% Banner of Cooperation) are Banners purchased from the Guild Vendor
in Orgrimmar and
in Stormwind. They provide you with a 15%,10%, or 5% Honor increase respectively while in range (100 yards), are not consumed on use, and have a 10 minute cooldown. Teammates should use them on a rotation in any Battleground you are in. Simply toss them on a side action bar or macro them to any of your abilities for convenient use. Keep in mind that these become more powerful the higher Honor gains you receive - turning in any of the
quests picked up in Battlegrounds
increases a 1,000 Honor gain to 1,150 Honor with just one click!
Use Your Honor!
cap is only 15,000, and you can approach that number very quickly. While Honor-capped, you will still receive credit towards your Honor Level but
you will not receive credit towards any quest that requires Honor
, such as the Oribos Weekly Quests. To avoid this, I suggest you try to keep your Honor points low unless you are saving for a big upgrade or before a new season. What do you spend it all on then? Well, the recently added
is a solid option. It rewards 5
, which can be used to buy all the old PvP season sets and weapons for transmogrification. They are also Bind on Account, so you can mail them to any alt to buy sets for other classes.
If you have run out of items to purchase, try switching the top right tab on the Honor vendor from class to all.
This will allow you to see other types of armor from the vendor so you are able to purchase a few pieces of gear for transmogrification that you would normally not be able to see, namely weapons.
Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal Activities
The next three sections will cover the activities you can do once during each season, week, and day to net you the most Honor, with seasons giving you the most.
Ashran and Wintergrasp have quests that reward 1,000 Honor. These reset at the start of each PvP season/patch.
This is the macro I use to keep track of which quests I have completed for the three Battlegrounds. 'True' means you have completed it and 'false' means it is still available. Only four lines will fit in the macro so depending on your faction, just copy and paste the ones you need.
Here is how it will look in your chat box:
I strongly suggest using this if you intend to do these quests on multiple characters, as it can be hard to keep track of after a while. The Alterac Valley quest seems to have been removed completely from the game after BFA. Hopefully it returns in the future.
Wintergrasp Quest and Tour of Duty Achievements
The Wintergrasp seasonal quest is a 'click to turn in' quest. This means after you win a Wintergrasp and the quest shows as complete, you can simply click to turn it in. You are able to take advantage of this in a big way by pairing this up with the Tour of Duty achievements.
Win a Wintergrasp Battleground and have the completed quest in your log.
Go to your major city and
turn Warmode on.
Go to whichever zone you want the achievement to be completed it and click to turn in the quest.
Because the quest gives you 1,000 Honor and the
Tour of Duty achievements
need you to earn 1,000 Honor in the zone, you will instantly reach that. Make sure you drop your 15% banner too for the extra 250 Honor! This trick is especially nice in Battle for Azeroth zones that don't have a very high population anymore. Keep in mind that you can only do this once per character each season.
This part is pretty straight forward and most people already do this. The weekly quest in Oribos given by
is a very efficient way to consistently net not only Honor but also Conquest each week. Make sure to check weekly whether the quests available are ones that interest you, not only for the weekly quest from Zo'rak but also for PvP Brawls. Every other week, a PvP Brawl will be active which is often a very quick and efficient way to obtain Honor. They can also double dip into the weekly quest if luck is on our side and the two line up.
About once per month, the
Battleground Bonus Event
takes place. This is a great time to do all the various activities mentioned. Make sure you check your in-game calendar for the event!
Getting your daily win in each Quick Match is the most efficient way to obtain Honor each day. Doing a Random Battleground, Random Epic Battleground, Arena Skirmish, and Brawl when it is up each day will not only give you a consistent chunk of Honor but Conquest as well.
Honor in Shadowlands
Added after the Honor system rework in Battle for Azeroth, this has become one of the longest and grindiest achievements in the game after losing the very lucrative Warden Towers (PvP World Quests in Legion that rewarded 300 Honor). The current PvP World Quests only give 50 Honor which is a massive drop off from how they were in Legion. For the people who are mount collectors,
is the reward for this achievement. For achievement hunters, this is typically one of the last achievements you obtain and work on. I hope some of the advice I have shared helps others work on knocking this lengthy achievement out.
For next season, Blizzard has announced that
PvP Items will have +13 item level in PvP
, similar to how it was in Warlords of Draenor. You will need an entire set of PvP gear to be able to be the best geared in all PvP situations, so obtaining Honor will be crucial.
If you have any strategies and tips on other ways to farm Honor, I'd love to hear about them in the comments!
