The data for this article was taken from the
Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Patch 9.1 partition for Mythic difficulty in the week of August 10th. As this is still an early moment for Shadowlands Season 2, Mythic data still contains many peculiarities, including limited representation on many bosses across most specs.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Sanctum of Domination in Shadowlands Season 2, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
The balance between specs is very delicate and will likely change throughout Season 2, as player acquire more gear, different classes and specs tend to perform better with more secondaries.

A month into Mythic raiding Demonology is still performing near the top of statistics for all specs and although is technically below Affliction is actually the vastly more popular and used spec between the two. With progression over for quite a number of guilds Demonology's one minute damage profile (thanks to
) becomes stronger as kills become faster and faster as each cooldown cycle becomes that much more impactful.
Demonology is the predominant Warlock spec to play on 6-7 of 10 bosses in Sanctum of Domination because of the impactful cooldown cycle. Most groups are also going the route of buffing us through the use of
to buff our
as much as possible. Power Infusion stacked with the on use effect of
Spawn - Cosmetic
makes the Demonic Tyrant dish out very high crit rate at a very quick pace.
There is of course the giant caveat for Demonology to do this good in damage and that is of course
. If you aren't getting this buff for your raid you will see a significant drop off in your overall damage making Demonology a somewhat less desirable spec to stack. Your damage is still middle of the pack without Power Infusion but at that point you should possibly consider playing Destruction or Affliction depending on the fight.
I would suspect that as kills become faster and faster you will start to see Demonology continue to dominate especially as other specs and classes will want to absorb the cleave damage for their own parses which in turn will push Demonology's niche single target "to the moon". This is more of the same and you should except to see more players rotate around all the specs during farm (as we are already seeing with Aff parses rising) but for those that are really looking to parse they'll be playing Demonology.

The Frost Death Knight is performing really well in Sanctum of Domination when looking at overall logs. The reason for this is primarily our ability to exceptionally well on short add cleave.
Breath of Sindragosa and Frostwyrm's Fury do a ton of cleave damage and allows the Frost DK to inflate its damage numbers on multiple bosses. Soulrender, Painsmith, Fatescribe, Kel'Thuzad and Sylvanas all present great opportunities for that big cleave damage.
Just to highlight how important this is, if one sorts by damage to bosses, frost drops a ton of places!

With nearly ten times as many parses, Arms is the most played Warrior specialization by a large margin, but there are still a number of Fury holdouts, and as they clear through Mythic Sanctum of Domination, they're beginning to show the specs capabilities in a way which has largely gone overlooked up until now. It's no secret that Arms is in a commanding spot this tier, with many of the early progression fights (The Eye, the Nine, & Remnant in particular) playing to the spec's 2-target strengths, it was predicted that Fury would grow in power over time, and we're finally starting to see that come to pass.
In terms of single target boss damage, Fury still lags slightly behind Arms, but now performs very similar to Arms on fights such as Remnant, Guardian, and Soulrender, while actually pulling ahead slightly on Painsmith. It still falters on The Eye, the Nine, and Remnant, though those are also very early fights which more progressed guilds have on farm. Multitarget is where Fury really shines however, repeating what we saw in Castle Nathria as Fury began pulling ahead first on Stone Legion Generals, before several buffs saw it pull ahead of Arms in other parts of the raid - in Sanctum, this is most apparent on Soulrender and Fatescribe, two fights with frequent waves of adds, which Fury excels at bursting down.
It is worth noting that Arms also excels at multitarget though, and has gained significantly increased Mythic+ representation this tier as a result of improvements to the Kyrian covenant specifically, so it isn't quite as clear cut as separating the two into single target and and multitarget specs. Cooldown timing aside, the biggest difference between them is that Fury is a heavily thoroughput focused specialization, which requires constant uptime and multiple cooldown cycles to maintain its damage, while Arms is much burstier and can more easily find gaps in their rotation for the frequent bits of "micro downtime" found in many raid encounters - this is well represented in Normal and Heroic parses, where Fury lags behind as one of the absolute worst performing specializations.
There also still aren't any public Sylvanas Windrunner parses as Fury, a fight which is not at all well suited to the Warrior toolkit. Despite the seemingly dominant performance of Arms Warriors in the Race to World First, it has also fallen considerably - only barely middle of the pack for all damage including AoE, while dropping even lower in pure boss damage. The high amount of adds in phase 1 and 2 means Fury could actually perform rather well there, even if it falls behind in Phase 3 boss damage, and while that's not a great idea for progression, it won't be an issue for guilds in deep farm, so it may not be surprising to see a lot more reclears with Fury Warriors chasing ranks in the coming weeks.
