Well i just found that it can be mined from Tin Veins. Yet to discover one but i've only explored Dun Morogh and Loch Modan. Anyone know the nearest area to obtain Tin ?

Spent most of my time yesterday mining so i could get the reciepe to build my own Heavy Shot. I then discover that one of the ingredients is Coarse Stone and the vendor will only sell me 2 =/
Surely this is mineable and not drop only.
Can anyone help ?

Tin can also be found in Westfall.

Time to do a little more exploring. Havent come acroos any yet but there is Tin and Silver in Loch Modan. Only lvl 15 with my Dwarf/Hunter so not really explored the East half of that area fully.

ROFL! on my server ( argent dawn ) i sell 20 coarse stone for 4.50g!
(on horde) i am lvl 24 and have 50g because of that, and i bought 12 blue items too! :D :D :D

I found 2-3 nodes to mine for tin and coarse stone in Azureloade mine in Hillsbrad Hills, south of Hillsbrad Fields. The nodes respawn every 3-4 minutes and you can easily get alot of tin and coarse stone in a small amount of time. Plus the miners drop silk and coin like crazy.

On my server, you can buy tin ore for at or just over 1s per, but coarse stones average 18-20s each.

By far the easiest place to grind on low lvl is the Stone Behemoth and Cracked Golem in southern Darkshore. The areas with a lot of tin ore are at least lvl 25+ most notably Thousand needles and Alterac Mountains which are 30+, but these stone elementals are just lvl 18-19. The camp may be small, only about 10-15 in it, BUT there's a glorious mechanic called force spawn; if the number of elementals in the camp drops below a certain amount, one of the dead ones will respawn immediately. The lowest amount for this camp is 2, but the camp is small and the next one never far away. Melee classes may kite to the nearest during combat and range should have no issue whatsoever. Sometimes they hide at the entrance next to the prospector dwarf though but sometimes they spawn on top of you. RNG baby!

The Elementals drop 1-2 Coarse stone at a 44% and 47% chance. If, for the sake of it, we guess the elementals are at a 50/50 distribution throughout the camp, we can simplify the calculation and say they collectively drop at a (44+47)/2 = 45.5% rate

They drop 1-2 when they drop, again guessing the chance is 50/50 for either scenario; Half of the times they drop we get 2.

If we kill 100, statistically that would mean 45.5 drop at all, half of which drop double, resulting in: 45.5/2 + (45.5/2)*2 = 22.75 + 45.5 = 68.25 out of 100 (or 45.5*1.5, which ever way you wanna put it)
so realistically we'd get just shy of 7 for every 10th kill, which is not super high rate but compare that to the alternative for a low lvl character. Mind you, tin veins only has a 40% drop rate for 1-2 Coarse stone. More loot per vain sure but also longer distance between.

On my lvl 19 priest i kill about 25 in 10 minutes: 25*6 = 150 per hour.
150*0.6825 = 102.375
I.e. 1 hour farm give me about 5 stacks; I dare anyone to tell me a single place in the game where i can get 5 stacks of Coarse Stone in an hour before lvl 20.

If you are planning on making a ridiculous amounts of explosives as a low lvl engineer, this is the place to go. Especially if you get xp from it as well. At times there are one or two ally players there doing the escort quest though. Their questing will help spawn more for you but in turn you'll bounce back more mobs on them than they'd fight if they where alone. Its a bit awkward... Especially for higher lvl farming when you kill them quick. Every time you kill one there is a chance that the forced spawn end up right on top of the poor low lvl trying to escort the dwarf, and every time hindering them from leaving just a bit longer. You'll have to steal the mobs quick or make some form of help for the stone loot type deal. Unless you're horde and wanna watch the world burn. Drive the poor sod away with endless combat. You cant attack the ally but you can make sure they wont survive. You do you. I play late so there's rarely people there when I am.

You still need the metal to craft bombs, but 40% for 1-2 coarse stone on tin vein and 100% for the tin gives 6 coarse stone for every 10 tin ore, and 3 for every 10 bronze bar. (cuz its 50/50 copper)
for small bronze bombs the recipe demands twice amount of blasting powder per bronze bar. Crafted heavy shot pairs copper with coarse stone; For a low lvl hunter (15-30) with engi this is a fantastic spot meet the need without drowning in tin and farming for days.
Sure Big bronze bomb would be preferable but unless you have a main to farm it on or a lot of gold you wont see much Heavy stone before lvl 30.

Not too sure about Black Smithing, but i've had similar issues with the one smith i've had though not as severe; Sharpening stone don't run out as nearly as fast as bombs and ammo. Skilling up requires a whole lot more metal than engi does so i guess it evens out a bit more than. Unless you cruise though it with grinding stone and sharpening stones, but I've never really cared for BS so I'ven't done the math. You figure it out. If you need Coarse stone, however, you know where to go.

for levels 18-23 or so, the best place for easy farming of coarse stone is Remtravel's Excavation in Darkshore. The stone golems drop 1-2 ~50% of the time and also drop smooth pebbles (+4 damage shot). Getting ready to move up to the elementals in Stonetalon ... they drop coarse stone as well as elemental earth's. And no competition on my server ... I farmed 3-4 stacks an hour which was plenty for engineering leveling needs plus good resale (10-15s per).

failed to mention that they respawn very quickly so its more or less continuous
