This sword (or its model) was used as the "Sword of 1,000 Truths" in the 10th Season premiere episode of Comedy Central's "South Park" cartoon. Aired: 04 Oct 2006
This sword is wonderful for tanking, and a great step towards tanking. However Blizzard recently announced that in patch 2.0 for World of Warcraft the +weapon skill will be nerfed, so that it no longer effects glancing blows. Instead the +skill will increase your chance to crit, and hit. This leaves +weapon skills in the ways of dps to be viewed as less superior to other weapons, due to the fact that previously before +weapon skills were used in order to help reduce the damage mitigation that you would recieve on glancing blows.
A lot of speculation, rumors, and overall confussion rattled around while naxx was in its beta phases all the way up to when the first one drop live.
Many believed this sword was gressil, dawn of ruin after live hit and during beta it was often reffered to as one or the other depending on time of day and who you talked to. It was unheard of that two sword drops could drop from the same boss.
They are two very differen't weapons from the same boss. Kel'thuzard is the only boss that drops two one handed swords currently in the game.
This is the other one handed sword that drops off Kel'tuzad. Tanking warriors will probably see this as a better weapon than Gressil, Dawn of ruin because of the 140 armor and the +6 to sword but with the nerf to weapon levels on TBC Gressil will, definately, be alot better for rogues and DPS warriors
The Hungering Cold is one of four pre-Burning Crusade One-Handers that breaks 70 dps. The Hungering Cold,
Claw of the Frost Wyrm
are the only One-Handers that can boast this, and when it comes to the random factor of loot drops, you take what's available to you.
So this is arguably (
) the most amazing tanking weapon currently in the game, while also serving as one of the highest dps "fast" weapons in the game.
With the recent nerf to +weapon skill, this weapon is no longer as beneficial to Rogues as it once was. Previously, Maladath was the only other Sword with +weapon skill to Swords, and this was the only upgrade to that.
This could only really be considered an off-hand item to a Rogue, and items like the Claw of the Frost Wyrm are much more beneficial to Rogues. This Sword is pretty much solely aimed at tanking Warriors now.
Ilvl of this item = 89
Ilvl of TF = 80
This item drops from Kel'Thuzad himself, the last boss in Naxxramas.
He drops another sword too: Gressil, Dawn of Ruin.
Gressil has the stats that this sword USED to have, that is to say
Gressil, Dawn of Ruin
Unique, One Hand Sword
138-257 Damage Speed 2.70
(73.1 Damage Per Second)
Requires Level 60
Equip: +40 Attack Power
Gressil is a longword with black etching on the blade, a large triangular point, and a purple glow, similar to the Skullforge Reaver
i got a bunch of screen shots ill show them on my text post
My guild is a couple of bosses from this sword becoming an issue, but its already been layed out that tanks will have priority on this weapon, you can't ignore 1.5 speed, armor, stam, and +weapon skill for tanking.
However I have no problem with rogues picking it up once tanks have em, it makes a sick offhand.
Hungering cold...hungers for dumplings!
+ Weapon skill is amazing for tanking. When you're tanking bosses that are much higher then you, you have to worry about whether or not your attacks are actually hitting the boss. By having the + weapon skill, you hit those mobs and bosses harder, and have a better chance of landing a blow. It also reduces the amount taken away from a glancing blow.
+ Weapon skill is just as good as + defense at that level because a tank with tier 3 has defense up the wazoo.
We dont need to flame you you are just uber dumb .
Stats show ewrything . Tanking Weapon.
due to the fact that increasing your skill in something makes you more acurate and acuracy is important for tanks this would be a good sword for those warriors who in instnces tank but can still pack an agrssive punch much better then
as it is a little bit slower alowing the tank to load up on rage for concousion blows and sunder armors altogether nice sword looks sweet
WE CAN'T TRUST THE SWORD TO A NOOB!
same sword graphic as the supposed "sword of 1000 truths" from the South Park WoW episode lol
1) THE SWORD OF A THOUSAND TRUTHS
2) +80 STAMINA
3) MANA BURN
4) REMOVES SHIELDS OF PLAYERS THAT HAVE REACHED POWER BEYOND THAT OF A GM
5) CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO A NEWB!
6) DOES NOT BIND
7) THEY KILLED KENNY!(bastards)(rez him imo)
8) HUNTER WEAPON!
9) nuff said
Thats the whole point of stuff like this. If a "Legendary" or "Epic" item was so easy to get that you could 10 man it... well then it wouldn't be that great of an acomplishment to get then would it... The epic weapons and out of Naxx are the Thunderfury and Sulfuras of 2 years ago, almost no one will even see them and even fewer will get them.
But then again look at how many people have thunderfury and Sulf now... just wait till you are 70 and you can 25 man Khel.
Don't complain about how hard it is to get all these cool things just because you cant afford to spend all your time playing. They are the rewards for those who have no lives or have decided that WoW is their life.
If you just want to sit an whine about how you dont have any cool gear maybe you should go back to first person shooters that give you all the cool gear in the first level. WoW isn't that type of game.
How do you kill that which has no life?
if you had TF and we're a DPS (fury DW) warrior TF now goes in your OFFhand.. there are much better higher-end damage weps out there, like EoC or this blade.. the TF proc still makes it godly though
ask any decent fury warrior..
If it's about DPS wouldn't this and Gressil paired up make good sense? +15 strength on each for the dw fury warrior(me for example),hell it might not be the ideal to some but I'd sure as hell take that combo.
I love doing DPS with my rogue. I also love when our MT is equipped with the right gear and instances go quicker.
Look at the stats and the speed on the weapon. If this was anything but a new uber l337 sword, rogues would pass it up and they know it.
Raiding guilds who are downing Kel'Thuzad already know this, but for all of you with a bunch of level 31 characters who like to come here and share your wisdom, let the MT warrior have it first, then when you have Naxx on farm status let the rogues get it.
So in conclusion, priority goes to tanks, look at the stats, and if your a rogue who is dieing to see their character with it, just inspect someone who has it and ctrl click the weapon.
What an entertaining thread...
For all of u guys that have posted the last month stating that this is THE MOST IMBAH SWORD in the game, and you are going to rally up people to get this... No, it is far from the best sword u can get in the game. Its actually really bad compared to the new stuff in the expansion. And it would be needles to say that if u didnt know this allready, u are probably not in a possision to get your hands on this (or any of the current endgame gear that is actually worth getting).
There are entry-level swords in the game atm that are easily attainable by a few days of grinding, that beat this sword by allot.
Have a look around Thottbot, and you will come to see that no pre TBC instances are worth doing for gear anymore. Not even Naxx. I switched out my weps from naxx at lvl66, and all the rest of my naxx gear were gone by lvl70.
I got this sword by now and I can say tanking with it is awesome.
The +skill, speed and dps gives you tons of rage, great for offtanking and maintanking.
Because of the speed on it you can basicly dump how much rage you want with heroics in a matter of seconds, you can never have too much rage..
..and it looks awesome together with the face of death ;)

This is good for not just one thing, however I see it best as
, as that will increase the whole raids total DPS even more then just one rogue.
ZOMG its the !
The +weapon skill essentially gives you +chance to crit now, right? No more glancing blow reduction. So what value does +weapon skill have over +crit, or are they the same thing? Why isn't there a useful ability in it's place, like a proc-on-hit? Or is +weapon skill actually a useful thing still?
Also, TF's proc goes off all the time, allowing the tank to hold multiple mobs, damage them all, slow them down, etc etc... TF's threat generation is so superior to anything else out there right now it's not even funny - it beats the pants off of this sword.
Looks ALOT like Frostmourne.
btw gz nihilum.

If it was ment for tanking only, they would have made it "Mainhand" only. But since it's one-handed it makes it the best sword offhand in game for rogues. Human rogues can drop Weapon Expertise and put into other dps talents
Horde FTW... gratz Nihilum!
Oh my god that's evil.
Kel'thuzad drop, grat's nihilum.
Sick ass rogue weapon too, besides being the best tanking weapon in the game...
Mainhand: Gressil, Dawn of Ruin
Offhand: The Hungering Cold
= Holy sh*t ownage
this is hunter weapon!
this is "The Sword of A Thousand Truths"from that World of Warcraft episode of Southpark!
HAha, the weapon with the highest DPS is a tahnkweapon, poor rogues and fury warriors. But hey, this is really even better than Thunderfury.
really nice sword! nice and grats! Quantz and Mupp :P
Uber lol the last post, hehe :) MOM THE BATHROOM!
combat sword build with the old hungering cold (73 dps @ 2.7 speed) & the new hungering cold (the one up there) > all.
sick optic :)

I find it almost comical how one-handers now do more DPS than lots of level 60 epic two-handers.
On my realm... A guild for kel'thuzad kill... And when they opened port to Orgrimmar.. I glanced at the people who got the loot. and.. and.. THEY GAVE THIS... TO A ROGUE! *CRY*
Grats to Nihilum! :>
I don't see why the rogues are even going to be whining about getting this sword when they are going to be replaced in BC anyway. Once shammies can Duel wirld wtf is gonna be the point of having the in raids when shammies duel wielding with windfury with %^&*in pwn rogues on dps plus supply extra healing for the raid which rogues can't do.
i knew youd make it Nihilium!
Europe wins once again, Yankees cries like babies out there right now.
Kharazans worlds firsts, anyone?
As of right now there is only one of these out there. Even after BC comes out, there might be 5 to 10 across the world of servers (EU, KN, CN, US). Do you really think a guild is going to give this to anyone but a warrior. Lets say your guild is the second to down Kel and just like Nihilum, you are lucky enough to get this, are you going to give it to offer it to your MT(s) who it will help you get past the 4H again, Sap and Kel or give it to your GM who is a rogue and really likes it so they can own in PVP.
If my guild had one or two of these and gave the third to a rogue (even if the rogue was the GM and started the guild two days after the first ever release of WoW), I would vote to disband the guild right there. Until this sword is as common as Quel or the Krol blade, guilds will give this sword to tanks to help them in Naxx and whatever BC throws at them. THC with a crusader will gain aggro fast and keep it, the sole purpose of a tank.
For tanks, not a hunter...
Thunderfury is topically still a better mainhand. It keeps aggro of one monster better, but also keeps the aggro of multiple monsters as well. The debuff is phenomenal, but that isn't as arguable as the DPS and hate generated.
This sword is an off-hand to every single class.
Fury Warrior would love this sword, but Rogues will use it better. Poison procs and, in the future, the ability to hit with the off-hand in Burning Crusade. Of course, that's not including Rogues being able to gain a decent bit of survivability in PvP...
I don't see why the rogues are even going to be whining about getting this sword when they are going to be replaced in BC anyway. Once shammies can Duel wirld wtf is gonna be the point of having the in raids when shammies duel wielding with windfury with ^&*!in pwn rogues on dps plus supply extra healing for the raid which rogues can't do.
Yes, I know that this does resemble Frostmourne, but the one problem with it being Frostmourne is this:
ARTHAS STILL POSSESSES FROSTMOURNE.
At the end of Warcraft 3, as Arthas takes up the Frozen Throne and becomes one with the Lich King, he still possesses Frostmourne. Also, Frostmourne has a very distinct Skull on the hilt.
It's a shame that a sword that drops off of the final boss isn't superior in every way over a sword that drops off of one of the first five bosses (Widow's Remorse). If they just gave this sword 4 or so extra stamina, I wouldn't be complaining. :)
The Hungering Cold... THC?
If only that +6 swords was +6 defense, it'd be like a Naxx version of a Quel'Serrar. :P
Im a hunter, and THIS IS NOT A HUNTER WEAPON! its tanking/dps sword.. it can go to a hunter for sure, but a hunter should NOT outbid a tank/dps warrior on that babe! NEVER! hunters can use it, yes, but its better to go get another sword...
This drops off Kel'Thuzad in Naxx, but is "orphaned" and not listed as being dropped by him.
