You go to Ashenvale, to a lake called Mystral Lake. On the north end of the lake is a house. The vendor selling the book is standing to the right when you go in the entrance. Her name is Shandrina, and she is a Trade Goods Vendor.The cost of the book is 1 gold.

To get the Expert Cookbook to get lvl 225 for cooking you must go to Desolace to Shadowprey Village on the coast at loc 26,70. Wulan is on the 3rd floor of a 3 level treehouse. Price is 1 gold. Can be bought at Auction House for a little more...depends on whether you can afford that...considering its not to bad to go through Auction House if you havent been out to Desolace as of yet.

So, let's compare: as Alliance, you can buy and use the Expert Cooking book at L20, in an area that is pretty easy to reach for L20 characters. As Horde, however, you have to find a way to get your L20 character to a town that is accessible overland only after first passing through the Charred Vale (heaps of L25-30 mobs and no safe roadway), followed by a long hike through an area where L33-L38 mobs cross the road constantly, and aggro on anything that even *smells* like it's below L30. Basically, if an L20 Hordie wants this book, it's either AH, twink, or have a friend buy a copy for you - unless you're really into corpse runs. About your best odds of success are with a Shaman, using Ghost Wolf, and praying that you can dodge as you run.

Has anyone tried swiming from Ashenvale down to Desolace? I dont think STm has water access. I remember at 13 I swam up from Grom'Gol to Westfall without a hitch to get a face mask. I will try this and post.

The first thing I do cooking (cuz I'm lazy) is from the cooking supplier buy a bunch of flour and mild spices (real cheap) and level to 40-50 just like that by making spice bread.

Horde folks can find this book in Shadowspray village, which is on the coast of Desolace. Its kind of a scary walk across Desolace to get there, so be careful! There are lots of lvl 25+ meanies to bite you. I saw some lvl 30 and up mobs as well.

The cheapest and relatively fastest way to get your cooking up to 150 is to get fishing as well.

from 1-50 farm boar meat around Orgrimmar 50-60 should take you to 50 cooking. From there pick up fishing (be sure to buy the Longjaw Mudsnapper and Bristlewhisker Catfish recipes and about 4 baubles). Either get it to about 20-30 in Og or just godirectlty to Crossroads and fish in Lushwater Oasis. I recommend the little strip of land between the two pools for safe fishing, or the brave/strong can venture into Wailing Caverns and fish from the rock in the middle of the pool before the instance portal (also a safe spot once you can reach it). And just fish till you have 75 fishing (an Intelect buff of any kind helps this along faster). Once fishing hits 75 go learn the next level and return to Lushwater/WC to fish until 150. Keep all the Longjaw Mudsnappers and Bristlewhisker Catfish for later. You should alternately catch Brilliant Smallfish, Longjaws, Bristle Whiskers and Deviate Fish. The Deviates sell extremly well in AH (2-5G per 20 stack on my server). You can pick up the Savory Deviate Suprise recipe above WC (Cooked deviates also sell well in AH). The rest become cooking fodder. Cook Smallfish until you are 75. Though you might have to suppliment with farming Strider meat, which is ok Strider Stew gives a decent low level buff.

Once cooking is up to 75 cook all the Longjaws you've caught until you're either maxed at 150 or the skill is grey. At which point cook Bristlewhiskers to finish cooking 150. After that you will have both fishing and cooking maxed till you can get the appropriate training books for both skills. The whole process took me about an hour to max both skills to 150 and make about 15 gold selling deviate fish.

In WotLK you no longer have to buy this book (and it actually isn't sold anymore). You can just learn the skill out of any cooking trainer.

Phase 2 in Season of Discovery just started (Patch SoD 1.15.1.53247) and I confirm that Expert Cookbook is available and works just fine. Bought it from Wulan (Horde).
Raised my cooking cap to 225 without any problems.
