Overview
Introduction
Island Expeditions are special 3-player scenarios introduced in Battle For Azeroth. The goal of an Island Expedition is simple, to obtain Azerite found on an uncharted Island. The exact method of doing so however is up to the players. The Islands you will sail to are filled with enemies native to the Island, and enemies not-so native to the Island. Every enemy you kill, every chest you loot, every special event you complete all will award Azerite that is loaded up on your ship. With these expeditions being all about gaining Azerite, they are designed to be the most efficient method of obtaining Azerite for your
.
An unexplored and unclaimed Island does come with unknown dangers. You will find unexpected enemies on the Islands ranging from Murlocs and Kobolds to Dragons and Faceless ones.
As you battle against the unknown, there will be one set of faces that you will be all-too familiar with however. It so happens that another 3 member team of the opposing faction has discovered the Island at the same time as you. You will be racing against members of the other faction to collect as much Azerite as your ship can hold.

Mythic and PvP Difficulty Islands now reward 350 Azerite baseline (up from 300 Azerite).
All Island Expeditions now have 2 "out-of-theme" enemies in addition to an Island Invasion. (Was 1 "out-of-theme" enemy.)
Island Expeditions now can have multiple invasions in a single Island Expedition, and the Azerite elemental has being added to the invasions list.
Invasions will always occur, even on high difficulties and while beating the enemy team by a lot.
Non-rare Elite enemies now give significantly less Azerite score compared to rare enemies and azerite nodes.
Completing your weekly Island Expedition cap now also awards a follower mission item for more potential Artifact Power.
These changes will be covered in more detail in their related guides.
Currently a work in progress and will be finished with more detail closer to the release of Patch 8.1
Weekly Quest Changes and Treasure Maps
In Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance, the weekly quests
/
now only require 36,000 Azerite. This lets players reach the cap in as few as 3 Mythic Islands (instead of 3 Mythic Islands and 1 Normal Island). Also in Tides of Vengeance, progress towards the weekly quest is now visible by viewing the map and mousing over the small treasure map icon near your capital city. If you have already completed your Island Weekly, this icon will not be on the map.
Completing your Island Weekly quest will ALSO award a
. This treasure map becomes for example,
. These maps when used will trigger a follower table mission that if successful, yield a bonus reward from additional Azerite, Gold, Residuum, and rare rewards from Island Expeditions.
Getting Started
Your first time getting into Island Expeditions, you will be required to complete a tutorial questline introducing you to the basics of the system. You'll be put alone on an Island and collect some Azerite through some of the same methods available on actual Island Expeditions. Completing this questline is account-wide, so once you've done it once, any further new characters you level will be able to jump straight into Island Expeditions as early as level 110.
The introduction questline is available once you have
progressed your War Campaign past the point where you have established 2 footholds on the other faction's continent and level 116.
After your footholds are setup you should have a special quest under the War Campaign section of your questlog called
or
. These quests lead you to talk to
or
for the quests
or
which will then begin your tutorial Island.
More information about the War Campaign can be found in our guides to War Campaigns.

Queueing
You can queue for Island Expeditions any number of times, there is no limit. Rewards are not on diminishing returns after the first Island Expedition, the only exception is the weekly quest reward.
Once you've completed the intro quest on one character, you can queue for Island Expeditions from the Expedition Map located at the Port of Zandalar for Horde or the Boralus Harbor for Alliance. The exact location is shown by a Treasure Map icon and mousing over the icon displays your progress towards the weekly quest.
Alliance Expedition Map Location (Coords: Boralus - 66.6, 33.4)
Horde Expedition Map Location (Coords: Dazar'alor - 44.5, 95.3)
Interacting with the map will bring up the Island Expedition interface. At the bottom of the interface you will be able to select a difficulty and then select "Find Crew" to be put in the queue for that difficulty. As these are 3-player scenarios, you can queue with up to 3 people with random players filling missing slots.
More About the Interface
The Expedition Map interface also gives you a lot of details and information about what to expect when queuing Island Expeditions for that week. Some elements of Island Expeditions work around a weekly system and offer some consistency during the week.
The Expedition Map gives information on the following:
Weekly Quest Progress:
At the very top of the Expedition Map is a progress bar of your progress towards the quota of 36,000 Azerite. Once this bar fills you will receive the reward listed at the right of the bar. Any progress made towards the reward carries over to the next week until you earn the reward. Afterwards, on the weekly reset, the bar resets to 0 and the reward can be earned again.
Islands:
The center of the Expedition Map will contain the names of the Islands you can visit this week along with a sketch of the map of the Island. Only 3 Islands are available in a given week.
Primary Enemy Type:
Each Island picture will also have a sketch of a race such as a Saurok or Mogu. This picture means that enemy race will be encountered frequently while on that particular Island. This is consistant throughout the week.
Repeatable Base Reward:
Mousing over the difficulties on the bottom of the Expedition Map will show you the minimal guaranteed reward for winning the Island Expedition on the selected difficulty.
More About the Difficulty Settings
Island Expeditions have 4 levels of difficulty: Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and PvP (Player vs. Player). Normal difficulty is available to solo or group queue right away at level 110 and after players have completed the introductory quests to Islands. Heroic difficulty is available to solo or group queue after reaching level 120 and being at least 295 average item level. Mythic and PvP difficulties require a pre-formed party of 3 players to queue. Mythic requires an average item level of 315 while PvP requires 295 to queue, but is put on the same difficulty tier as Mythic.
On Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties of Island Expeditions, players will be racing to collect Azerite against an expedition team of the opposing faction controlled by Blizzard's new "Advanced AI". This "Advanced AI" is meant to imitate player-like play, without actually being players. These NPCs are completely different from normal NPCs in many ways that will be explained later in this guide
here
.
Island Expeditions do also come with a PvP difficulty, which will queue your party against another team of 3 actual players on the other faction.
Normal:
No requirements after Introduction is complete.
May queue as 1-3 player party.
Race to collect 6000 Azerite.
Heroic:
295 item level required.
May queue as 1-3 player party.
Race to collect 9000 Azerite.
All Azerite gain increased by 50%.
Mythic:
315 item level required.
Must queue as 3 player party.
Race to collect 12000 Azerite.
All Azerite gain increased by 100%.
PvP:
295 item level required.
PvP Talents Enabled
Must queue as 3 player party.
Race to collect 18000 Azerite.
All Azerite gain increased by 200%.
Higher difficulties of Island Expedition come with better chances at rewards such as mounts and toys and faster progress towards the weekly quest
or
.
Winning PvP Island Expeditions awards 50

Core Mechanics
Island Expeditions are essentially randomly generated maps with an objective to beat the other faction in collecting Azerite. Players are given the choice then on how best to approach that goal while exploring the Island. Understanding the unique elements and events of Island Expeditions is important to optimizing Azerite gain. This section will explain the interface and core mechanics of Island Expeditions.
Understanding The Map
The map gives valuable information and uses special icons to tell players points of interest that are worth exploring. It is incredibly important to check the map often and investigate symbols that you discover on it.
Scouted Azerite:
Location of some Azerite source that has yet to be revealed. This usually marks the location of a potential Powerful Foe or Bonus Objective. Not every objective will be marked this way however. When a member of your expedition team explores this area the icon will vanish.
Azerite Source:
Location of an interactable that awards Azerite. Usually a Chest, Satchel, or Mining Node containing Azerite.
Powerful Foe:
A Rare or Rare Elite enemy awarding a large amount of Azerite.
Bonus Objective:
Location of a friendly NPC in need of help. The quest details are discovered when any member of your team walks up to the NPC and tracked on the Bonus Objectives quest tracker.
Enemy Faction Member:
Location of a member of the enemy faction.
Alliance Ship:
Kul'Tiran ship, spawn location of Alliance members. Horde players too close will be bombarded by the ship cannons.
Horde Ship:
Zandalari ship, spawn location of Horde members. Alliance players too close will be bombarded by the ship cannons.
Portal:
Location of a portal that will take you to another location.
Azerite Extractor Location:
Location that a faction may deploy an Azerite Extractor that will slowly generate Azerite for that team until destroyed by creatures or the other faction. Destroying an enemy Azerite Extractor will allow you to replace it with your own.
Azerite Rupture Location:
Location of an Azerite Rupture. A player may deploy an Azerite Extractor that will attract Azerite themed enemies until a rare spawn shows up. Once the rare spawn is defeated, this icon vanishes.
Fog-of-War
is a new mechanic introduced in Battle For Azeroth through Island Expeditions. If you are familiar with this mechanic in many Real-Time Strategy games, it works the same. Details of the map are only updated on the map while you have visibility on them. This is currently, approximately 100 yards from your character position. Areas outside your visibility range are shaded on the main map and details won't update until you visit it again. Ex. If a player from your team finds a Powerful Foe, it will be shown with a bright Icon on the main map, if they then leave the area, the icon will be shaded grey but continue to stay on the map at where it was last seen. There is a chance that when another team member visits that area again, the will completely vanish as that rare no longer exists.
How to Win
When you load into the Island, you'll be on your ship in preparation stage. You'll have 45 seconds to do whatever you need before the actual race begins. You will be able to view the map and see some initial areas where Azerite has been scouted. You can also see the area around your ship and plan on where to head out first. You can also spend
you may have during this time on the vendor located on the ship in exchange for some items.
Once the Island Expedition begins, players are free to go wherever they want and do whatever they want. The countdown for the Azerite Detector begins, and when the timer reaches 0, all Azerite sources, bonus objectives, and rares on the Island are revealed to both teams. Both teams' progress and the total amount of Azerite needed by either team to win is shown at the top of the screen. Once one team reaches the goal amount of Azerite, the Island Expedition ends.
Players can obtain Azerite for their team in the following ways:
Killing any creature
Opening chests / Mining Azerite
Completing Bonus Objectives
Killing the other faction
When any player on the team gathers Azerite, it will be shown in chat describing where from and how much. The amount of Azerite received from enemies is based on generally how powerful the enemy was. Elite NPCs and rares will give significantly more Azerite than common NPCs.
Killing members of the other faction awards Azerite based on how long the particular member has gone without dying. The amount of Azerite is shown as a debuff on the team member visible by both factions. The maximum amount of Azerite gained from kiling a faction member is 250 Azerite which takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds to stack up (1 Azerite per 2 seconds).
Islands
There are a total of 11 Islands available that players may visit during Island Expeditions. There is potential for more Islands to be added in future patches.
Molten Cay
Dread Chain
Whispering Reef
Skittering Hollow
Rotting Mire
Verdant Wilds
Ungol Ruins
Havenswood
Jorundall
Crestfall
Snowblossom Village
Only 3 of these Islands will be available to visit throughout a week. The Islands available for the week are shown on the Expedition Map when queuing for Island Expeditions.
For more detailed information on each Island of Island Expeditions visit our
Strategies for All Islands Guide.
All the Islands generally work the same, but due to the sheer difference and randomness in the map; the routes players take to explore and key areas to scout may vary greatly. This is even further complicated due to starting locations for both factions being random every time, even when visiting the same Island multiple times in the same week.
Each Island's shape and size has an impact on how enemies are located around the map, and in some cases the theme of the Island causes enemies to be very spread out or clumped. For example, an Island such as Dread Chain is almost perfectly circular with very little barrier to entry from the shores to the center of the map and high enemy density near the center of the map. Dread Chain will provide players with constant action with little downtime traveling. On the other hand, an Island such as Rotting Mire has a lot of empty swamp between camps of enemies and is more time-consuming to get to opposite sides of the Islands.
Creatures
You will encounter many many different types of creatures while on Island Expeditions. There are some guidelines however on which types of creatures appear, where and when.
Common Creatures:
Creatures such as crocolisks and spiders are found on almost every Island. There is no sure way to tell the existence of some of these creatures on the Island without encountering them first.
Island Theme Creatures:
Some types of creatures only appear or appear more frequently on certain Islands. Under each Island name on the Expedition Map is a sketch of an enemy that will be found frequently on that Island. More details about the themes of enemies found on particular Islands can be found in our
guide to each Island
.
Invasion Event Creatures:
These enemies can be rarely found on any Island, but are very different from most enemies you will encounter and completely ignore the theme of the Island. These types of NPCs usually appear due to special events that occur during an Island Expedition. creatures such as Dragons and Faceless are some of the types of enemies that work like this. For more detail about special events and invasions and what kind of creatures appear because of them visit our
Random Events and Invasions Guide
.
Most Elite enemies will have 1-2 abilities that deal high damage, but are avoidable. Understanding which enemies cast which abilities will help in knowing how to avoid taking heavy damage from Elite creatures. On higher difficulties, these mechanics are fatal.
Mining Nodes, Chests and Satchels
Island Expeditions are not won by simply killing everything, but a large part of winning is to interact with all sorts of objects and items lying around the Island. Mining an Azerite node or opening a chest containing 150 Azerite is much faster than killing an Elite with 300,000 health that's also worth 150 Azerite. On higher difficulties, looting these sources of Azerite will prove to be much more efficient as enemies will have significantly more health.
Generally the larger the Azerite node or Treasure Chest, the more Azerite it gives. With how quick it is to loot these, it is smart to have someone hold threat on creatures guarding these interactables while someone goes around gathering them up as soon as possible. If you have gathered all the Azerite chests around a group of enemies and then get wiped, you will have earned something out of it at least. In some cases the amount of chests around an NPC is worth more Azerite than killing it.
Any interactable worth 100 or more Azerite baseline (normal mode value) is marked on the map and minimap as an Azerite Source .
Events and Invasions
As teams collect Azerite, special events and changes to the Island may occur which offer new and efficient ways for teams to get Azerite. All events usually consist of several creatures spawning worth a lot of Azerite who also guard chests giving even more. Whenever these events happen,
for Horde or
for Alliance will say something about it, and the event location(s) will be marked with a on the main map. The Azerite yield of these events is very high and if a team manages to respond first to these events uncontested they will gain a massive advantage.
Some of the larger events will completely change the appearance of the Island as well as adding hazards or gameplay elements. One large event for example is a Kvaldir invasion, which will cause the Island to become dark and covered in an
. This fog reduces the range at which you can see and cast on enemies and allies to 20 yards for the remainder of the Island Expedition.
For a complete list of all events that can occur during Island Expeditions and how they work, check out our
Guide to Random Events and Invasions.
Seafarer Dubloons and Unique Consumables
To help players explore these mysterious islands with only 3 people, a lot of tools are available to players. On each teams' ship is a vendor who offers some items you can purchase for
. This is the primary currency used and obtained in Island Expeditions.
can be found randomly around the Island as well as in bags found often at the end of winning an Island Expedition. The vendor changes each week with each vendor selling different items.
As of now, items purchased with
are not usable in PvP Island Expeditions.
Blizzard
Island Expeditions
Seafarer's Dubloon items may no longer be used in PvP Island Expeditions.
Developers’ notes: We're looking for ways to use Dubloons in the future, but for the time being, we do not feel that Dubloon use makes for a good experience in a PvP setting.
s can also be used to purchase some Island Expedition rewards and some new pets, mounts, toys and transmog items. The vendor that sells these items is located near the Island Expedition table.
for Alliance and
for Horde.
In addition to items that can be purchased, randomly found around the Island are shrines that debuff a player who interacts with it with a 10 minute effect that often has a good and bad component to it. Players will also find plenty of smaller items lying on the ground that can either be eaten to heal a percentage of health or thrown at an enemy to incapacitate it in some way and make it take more damage.
More detailed information on these buffs, items and consumables and how to obtain
can be found in our
Island Expedition Consumables Guide.
Other Faction Presence
It is Horde vs. Alliance on the Islands, with the teams landing on the same Island, but different locations. You will be competing against the other faction for the same limited resources on the Island, as creatures and resources don't respawn.
Killing members of the other faction not only awards your team with Azerite based on how long that member has been alive, but also will slow down the opposing team. When a player or "Advanced AI" NPC dies, they will respawn back at their ship after a resurrection timer.
"Tagging" is a mechanic present that players may or may not be familiar with. If a member of one faction damages a creature first, that creature is "tagged" to that team until all members of that faction who are in combat with the creature die or drop combat with it. When the creature dies, only the team with the tag on it will be credited for all rewards, in this case Azerite. A creature that your team does
NOT
have a tag on has its nameplate and target frame colored grey instead of the usual red. If you engage a creature that has already been tagged by the opposite team, and wipe out all members of that faction; the creature will then become tagged to your team and the nameplate and target frame will change from grey to red. This allows you to then finish off the creature and be credited the full amount of Azerite, even if the other team did 90% of the work.
Advanced NPCs
On Normal, Heroic, and Mythic Island Expeditions, the team you are going against will be operated by an "Advanced AI". These NPCs do not behave like normal NPCs and instead attempt to behave like actual players. These NPCs ignore threat and taunt mechanics and instead prioritize targets based on many factors like health and role. Mage NPCs may Frost Nova and Blink away when in melee range of players. Rogue NPCs may Sap or Blind a party member and open up on another player, and then Vanish when low health. Other caster type NPCs will actively try and keep their distance from players. These NPCs also act somewhat unpredictably where they may switch from being aggressive and trying to secure a kill, to attempting to disengage from combat. They may even attempt to distract players while an NPC attempts to mine an Azerite node or steal a chest from them.
More information on the specific Advanced AI Teams players will encounter and what to look out for can be found in our
Guide to Island Expedition's Advanced AI Teams
Player vs. Player
On Player vs. Player (PvP) difficulty, all of the same Island Expedition mechanics apply, except the team you are against is an actual team of players. PvP Island Expeditions don't necessarily mean the players have to actually engage each other in PvP combat as you can win very fast by avoiding the other team. It could also very well be a constant 3v3 battle or even 2v2 while a player from each team sneaks around and collects Chests and Azerite nodes. The possible strategies are endless. Just remember that all elements of Island Expeditions apply to all difficulties, so players will have access to all the Shrine buffs, consumable items bought using Seafarer Dubloons, as well as all the various consumables found across the Islands; and they are all usable against players in PvP combat.
Rewards
Island Expeditions have many rewards tied to them that are all awarded at the end of the Island Expeditions. These rewards are dependent on your performance during the expedition and some rewards such as Mounts, Pets, and Transmog are dependant on what creatures exist on the Island.
In Patch 8.1, rare rewards at the end of Island Expeditions are based on all mobs that were present on the Island you just completed instead of what you killed. Also some rewards are now purchasable with
.
Experience
Normal difficulty Island Expeditions are available to queue on all characters at level 110 and above once unlocked account-wide as mentioned earlier. A hotfix was made to substantially increase the experience reward for characters between 110-119 after completing normal Island Expeditions. This provides a good way to level up a character as well as collecting a good amount of Artifact Power while doing so.
Blizzard
Island Expeditions
The bonus XP reward for completing a normal Island Expedition has been increased.
Normal Island Expedition wins award about 71500 experience per win in addition to the experience gained from killing creatures.
Azerite
Island Expeditions are designed to be one of the most efficient methods of obtaining Azerite for your
. The Azerite players collect during the actual Island Expeditions is for your faction's cause and not Azerite the player actually obtains for their
. However, Island Expeditions do give players Azerite in other ways.
All sources of Azerite for the player's Heart of Azeroth is as follows:
Weekly quest
or
. 3500
.
follower mission items obtained from completing the weekly quest.
Winning bonus
(higher difficulties means bigger bonus). 450
on Mythic/PvP difficulty.
Rare quest items
obtained from Island Expeditions wins. 750
per quest.
Each week, players are given the quest
or
automatically. This quest is hidden so it does not take up quest log space. You can see your progress on these quests at the top of the Island Expedition Map interface that you use to queue for Islands or by viewing the map where the expedition table is located. When you reach the amount of Azerite needed the reward will have a green checkmark on it and you can turn in the quest.
The Azerite gained during the Island Expeditions is what counts towards this total. So winning a normal Island Expedition will credit 6000 Azerite towards this weekly as the winning score for Normal mode is 6000. Higher difficulties of Island Expeditions have Azerite values increased and require more Azerite to win, making it faster to complete the weekly quest. Even if you lose, all Azerite your team gathered will count towards the quest.
Progress towards this reward is carried over to the next week if you do not earn the reward in a given week. So if you only collect 24,000 Azerite one week and don't claim the weekly reward, you will only need 12,000 Azerite next week for the reward. However once you earn the reward, you can not make further progress towards another reward until the weekly reset.
A much smaller, but still efficient amount of Azerite also comes from the repeatable bonus for winning an Island Expedition on a particular difficulty. The amount of Azerite awarded for a Mythic Island Expedition win is currently 450
and can be earned any number of times. For comparison, completing a Random Heroic Dungeon gives 150
once per day, and 75
afterwards.
Quest Item Rewards
Rarely obtained after Island Expedition, win or loss, players may loot items that either start a quest or are a repeatable turn-in item to an NPC for bonuses such as reputation or Azerite. Many of the repeatable turn-in items such as
and
give reputation. In this case
gives 250 reputation with
faction and
gives 250 reputation with
. These types of quest items can be obtained multiple times.
Other items such as
and
are items that begin a quest that offer some sort of reward. All of these types of quest items give Azerite in the case of both of these quests. These types of quest items can only be obtained once per character. These quests are part of the achievement
and is shared progress across all your characters.
Quest item rewards are also related based on the enemies you defeat while on Island Expeditions as the
was automatically awarded after an Island Expedition that had a Black Dragonflight invasion and
was awarded after a victory on the Verdant Wilds Island with many druidic creatures.
Rare Mount, Pet, Transmog Rewards
There are many collectable items such as mounts, pets, and transmog items that come from Island Expeditions. Exactly how certain items are rewarded is unknown but currently they are random rewards at the end of Island Expeditions. The higher the difficulty of Island Expeditions the more likely you are to obtain items at the end of the Expedition. Also the enemies you might encounter while exploring Islands seem to be related to the items awarded at the end.
There are many collectable items such as mounts, pets, and transmog items that come from Island Expeditions. Here is a small preview of some of the more permanent rewards.
A full list of rewards can be found in our
Island Expedition Rewards Guide.
Mounts
Pets
Plundered Weapons
Plundered Weapons are 325 Item Level which is equivalent to the Item Level of Heroic Dungeons.
Achievements
Island Expeditions also award quite a few achievements, the majority of which are based around winning Island Expeditions on Mythic and PvP difficulties on all of the Islands. The achievement desired most will be
as it awards the title for completing all of the achievements related to Island Expeditions.
Some achievements such as
are account-wide so you don't have to worry about getting rare rewards on other characters and not having them count towards these achievements.

I hope they tune the rewards in terms of AP.
Currently giving about 350AP on beta which is just stupidly low when there are also WQ that give 350AP.

Predictable that higher difficulties reward different items, but I'd been hoping it would just increase the drop rates - also that we were guaranteed a reward on each victor, since there are so many options. Hopefully there's protection in place so you don't get the same account-wide reward more than once?
Great guide, though!

Will these scenarios be added to LFD, or must we put our own groups together?
Also, can you kick players for the group, and if so are they replaced or are the remaining players left to try and finish?

One question I can't seem to find the answer to: If you kill the opposing faction (AI, not players) do they respawn or are they gone from that point on?
I am guessing they are not gone but it'd sure make it a bit easier. They probably respawn but was looking for confirmation.

I have done a few of these and found nothing that holds my interest with these 3 man instances. At least the Pandaria scenarios had some level of play through. These are Diablo style smash and grab, but take too long to kill anything and reward little for the kill. It takes just long enough to be tedious and rewards nearly nothing making it feel pointless.
Yes, there are some awesome looking pet rewards in particular but they are so incredibly dull it doesn't seem appealing enough to spend much time doing these.
Yet, I retain Island Expeditions may be the most mindless and boring thing ever added to the game besides the mission table in WOD.
Maybe someone can add a comment with how these are a better use of your time than say world quests.

For the Alliance the table to start this is by Flynn Fairwind in Boralus at coords /way 66.63 33.46 Expedition Table

The location of Captain Rez'okun and the table for Island expeditions, is located at
/way 44.56, 95.38
.
As part of the Dazar'alor temple, on the map it is located at the most southwest corner, bottom level of the entire temple complex. Close to the Grand Bazaar, you'll spot it across from Captain Greenbelly and some stairs, in a covered area, attached to a ship.

Any ideas why im getting only around 115 AP for some HC wins?

Still seems semi buggy. Had the other faction NPC's just stop doing anything at 501 collected Azerite in one match, next we killed the entire other team but it still didnt't drop the tag from a 300 azerite value gold mob.

The rewards for this seem really poor besides the cosmetic ones. People said it was good ap, but it really doesnt seem like it for time invested.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse for the severely socially anxious after the road block forced raids, now we have Island expeditions to screw us all over too. Thanks Blizzard! I'm sure you all shot out of the womb bursting with confidence but sadly some of us are stuck permanently in our houses with Warcraft as our only source of light socialization (meaning we can be around people without actually having to talk/have people rely on us for anything), at least we did, until our gaming experience was ruined by major parts of the game being blocked by raids, dungeons, scenarios and now island expeditions. Very disappointing. I've been playing since 2004 and it's starting to look like the end for me.

suggest we all petition blizzard to make it so you can que through group finder, because the fact you can't is killing this feature.

What team setup would you recommend for Island Expeditions? 1 tank, 1 healer e 1 dps? Or 2 dps and 1 healer?

I never cease to be amazed at the reasons for whining from entitled "adults."
Here's how hard it was for me and two guildies to queue last night:
"Want to do Island Expeditions?"
"Sure!"
"Anyone in Boralus? If not I can hearth there and queue us." <----- This would take less than a minute
"Nah, I had stuff to turn in anyway so I'm there. I'll queue us."
"Cool."
Oh, the horror. I don't know how we persisted through this feature killing atrocity.

I'm level 118, have all three footholds, but never got any quest to start Island Expeditions? I share a battle.net with my sib so maybe they've already done the intro quests, but I now have no idea how to get access to island expeditions.

A bit late to the party, but I just did 3 Normal IEs tonight with a friend. And dear god, Blizz..... I see this as something I'm going to GRIND out just for the damn reward. It was tedious, it was stressful, it was absolutely NO FUN whatsoever for me. I DESPISE "race" missions. Race against the time, race against an enemy...it's not fun for me.
With dungeons, it's effectively the pace the tank feels comfortable with. Even if that's faster than I'm comfortable with while DPSing, it doesn't really affect me, because I just jump into the pack and start pummeling them down. This racing, I felt pushed to pull more, to pull things on my own, get that extra bit of Azerite.
Also, bravo, Blizz, for making it table only, so we can't leave Boralus (more like Bore-alus now) while doing IEs.

I may have missed it in the guide, but as the 3rd tier of the War Effort Advancement requires you to complete 5 different island expeditions. Is there a way to know which islands we've done, which ones we still need to do. How many different ones we've done I mean, as there isn't a requirement to do specific islands, just 5 different ones. I'm assuming this is character specific, doesn't make sense to be account wide.
Some people are really ignorant. I mean, it's a valid question, why, except for just being a jerk, would anyone even bother to down vote it? It's a question. If you know the answer, maybe, just maybe you could answer it. If you don't, then WTF would you down vote it? So NO ONE could answer it?

Ok, so I've done about 5 of these and they're really boring. I just don't see the point. And the reward isn't even worth the time investment.

I just did my first Island Expedition today. On Normal.
I did not see any option to do it solo.
So, how does one try solo?
I'll admit the mob was difficult with 3, but I presume the AI would scale some features for solo play, as it does in other gameplay.

This might be old news at this point but some might find it useful. Unlocking island expeditions seems to be account wide and after unlocking them any alts can queue for the lowest difficulty even while leveling. The recent buff to the xp gained and addition of the weekly wq for ap make doing expeditions while leveling a decent way to get a head start on ap, and some extra xp for those that are tired of questing or don't have the time to do dungeons.

Hey BLIZZARD if you are reading this how about increasing the cap for COMMUNITIES.
At the moment my Island Expedition Community is capped at 1,000
.
Community 1, 1,000 members, you might see if we went under the cap, if so use this code:
YeBzeRlskWm
Community 2 around 300 members or so, use this one if community 1 is still full and that community has a link for #1 for the future. Use this code:
amYdNVWi54b
Why in the world would you cap a cross server feature?

As the guide does not entirely cover all "strategies", here is something I found useful on
normal difficulty
.
Follow the "X"-spots marked on the map. I recommend doing them in a set order, i.e. starting with the one nearest to the ship and then following outwards. If you completed the first 3 spots, new one's should appear. Follow them the same way.
While on the way to the "X"-spots, kill all mobs with a skull marked on the map.
If you encounter the opposing faction team, mark one and focus them one-by-one.
Do not waste your time with quests, as they take too long to complete.
I follow these steps every time and get 100% victories in about 7-8 minutes. Of course only if the PUG's follow my lead ;)
Hope it helps a bit.

I know that the drop rate has been improved, but...
There are three island per week (or so) and you do not choose which one to do (small problem).
The random other two players might want to do this as fast as possible and thereby not getting to stage three and the named rares, like Barnaby.
Then there is the ordinary RNG on the loot table.
And since some of the stuff you want are BOP it is no use to buy anything from AH, because you want the BOP stuff.
but...
The difficulty level has no influence on the drop rate.
It does not matter if you win or loose.
All this is going in the "play as slow and bad as you can and show no interest whatsoever" direction (without getting kick-voted)
Never run toward the "action" - only walk.
Never use anything other then auto attack.
If it where possible, simply join an IE and do absolutely nothing, read a book, or watch something on TV.
I wonder if there are premade groups that actually does this?
In short it is boring and counterproductive. Let´s see if 8.1 does something to change this.
(and I am not mentioning the Azerite thingy)
I certainly hope so. I do like to play WOW, but...

The guide hasn't been updated with the new rules for 8.1 loot. It still says that it's dependent on what mobs you kill.
The loot rules are still VERY confusing. The last two WoW news updates about the weekly islands states seemingly contradictory information:
Havenswood can have the following special enemy types and rewards
you will no longer receive end of expedition rewards based on what you've killed.
Is it because "special rewards" aren't rewarded at the end?
Does the rewards for mobs in invasion events require the invasion event to trigger before you win? or does it always trigger before you win? Can the mounts tied to specific mobs which are in turn tied to specific islands also randomly from the invasion events?
Considering Blizzard's attitude, it sounds like my most efficient route for getting what I want is just waiting until they've almost finished the expansion and they let you buy the items you want with some currency like doubloons. I want choice and progress instead of just pure RNG.

Can someone please tell me exactly how to queue for soloing the Island Expeditions? The guide says it is possible to solo these on "Normal," but there's no explanation as to how to sign up for soloing.
I've gone to the map, chosen "Normal," and then clicked "Find Crew" (which is the only option on the map)...and then I'm told I've been queued for a group. Consequently, I declined, because I don't want to group.
Should I have done something differently?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey, if you're extremely unobservant like me and want to know how to queue for Heroic/Mythic/PVP it's actually on this screen. Maybe this is obvious to everyone else but I'm just so used to LFG queueing that I wasn't sure where to go with this system. Pic below:

"
Normal difficulty is available to solo or group queue
"
The key word in this statement is
queue
. It is unfortunately not possible to actually "solo" an Island Expedition. It simply means that individuals can sign up for a mission instead of needing to be in a group.

Be aware, that if you leave the instance (say for the reason that you've already done this island), you'll get the Deserter debuff, which prevents you from queueing for the next 30 minutes...

Caution: After you hit 70 on your neck in BFA, you no longer can get Azerite. This means that the island expedition quests now give you 8-12 gold and NO Azerite. Not really worth the trip...

Those of you that are looking to queue but cannot because you did not do the "required" battles you are unable to find ppl in the warfront queue for - i just noticed that is now not a requirement. it was reported to blizzard last week - it remains unreplied, as is the norm in fact but i can tell you that after doing said island expeditions with someone else queueing me in for the first time a week ago, i found the map in the port available to me today as i was seeking to queue for the battle of stromgarde (again), to no avail..it wasn't even an option because of a lack of "horde resources." so your information about how to queue, prerequisites is not true and not accurate at this time. i believe it became available to me either because i completed my first island expedition last week and/or leveled up my heart of azeroth to 72 or so..not sure tbh. just trying to help by sharing all i know about this because my research told me otherwise. yet again.

You can now
solo queue
to a normal/heroic/mythic Expedition by talking to Captain Rez’okun or Flynn Fairwind (standing next to the map table).

In order to solo queue, you need to pick a quest from the map i bfa, choose tiragarde, talk to quinn and get the quest:
The Smoking Gun
After that he appears by the table and you can talk to him to solo queue.
From lvl 10-60 you can queue for normal, from lvl 51-60 you can queue for heroic and mythic.
Hope this helps! Took me a while to find updated info about this.

Correct me if I am wrong but I didnt see it here. You can now solo island expeditions, just talk to the guy at the table. He has three chat options for a "private tour", normal / heroic / mythic.
