Welcome to Wowhead's Tank Warrior Rotation & Abilities Guide, updated for WoW Classic. In this guide, you will learn how to minmax the abilities of your Warrior for both single target and AoE scenarios. We will also go in-depth on all Warrior abilities, Warrior cooldowns, Warrior procs, everything to teach you how to make the most from them, in order to be more efficient and effective in dungeons and raids.

Rotation
As a tanking Warrior, your rotation is purely to generate threat, generally speaking, you'll want to be using your most threatening ability at any given time, the more threat you generate as a tank the more you allow your DPS to freely attack.
Protection Single-Target
斩杀
: Even as a tank this ability should take priority when your target is below 20%, you would swap to battle stance and use this ability until the boss is dead.
盾牌猛击
: Shield Slam is going to be your highest threat ability on single target and should be used to get snap threat on a new target or just on cooldown while tanking a boss.
复仇
: Revenge is the next highest threat ability and should be used on cooldown. You should pretty much always have a Revenge proc while tanking.
破甲攻击
: Sunder Armor is the filler ability that you use while you are waiting on your other abilities to come off cooldown.
英勇打击
: HS should be used to dump extra rage.
Fury Single-Target Rotation
Similar to the Protection ST rotation, Fury is only a one-button difference:

: Even as a tank this ability should take priority when your target is below 20%, you would swap to battle stance and use this ability until the boss is dead.
嗜血
: Bloodthirst is now your most threatening ability and should be used on cooldown while playing fury/prot.

: Revenge is the next highest threat ability and should be used on cooldown. You should pretty much always have a Revenge proc while tanking.

: Sunder Armor is the filler ability that you use while you are waiting on your other abilities to come off cooldown.

AoE Rotation
For AoE threat, you'll mostly be generating threat via external sources such as engineering explosives and other items that reflect damage back at your attackers.

: Simply equipping this shield and running into a group of mobs is going to increase your threat generation on a large pack of enemies, this shield is virtually mandatory for tanking in Classic.

: Sappers are going to be a great way to get a large amount of threat on several enemies at once, while this item has a long cooldown there are plenty of other engineering explosives on a 1-minute cooldown.

: Spamming demo shout is going to be your best bet for generating threat on several targets at once.

: Use this to dump rage

: This should be used in specific or emergency situations to have several mobs fixate on your for the duration of the ability.
Learning Warrior Spells and Warrior Spell Ranks
Instead of having abilities passively grow in power as your character levels up, in Classic WoW each ability is split out into many ranks. That means that most Warrior abilities will require you to visit a Warrior Trainer in order to learn higher ranks as you level up. Some abilities even have special ranks, only learnable via special tomes found around the world.
As you level to 60 in Classic WoW, new abilities will unlock every two levels. In order to train them, you must visit a
Warrior Class Trainer
, usually located in a major city. In this rotation guide, when talking about abilities, it is usually implied that we’re talking about the max rank unless stated otherwise.

Stances
Warriors swap between three stances that have different advantages/disadvantages as well as stance specific abilities:
战斗姿态
: As the tooltip states, this is your neutral combat stance that doesn't come with any major advantage or disadvantage. As always there are stance-specific abilities that you can only use in Battle Stance.
防御姿态
: This is your, well....Defensive Stance that reduces the amount of damage you take and increases your threat generation, but this stance also lowers your damage dealt. This stance is primarily used by Tanks but can be used by any Warrior in a pinch to reduce incoming damage.
狂暴姿态
: This stance increases your chance to land a critical strike with your abilities but also increased the damage you take by a significant amount. Primarily used by DPS Warriors this stance allows you to increase your damage but can be risky in situations where you might take damage.
Offensive Abilities
英勇打击
: This ability defines Warrior in Classic World of Warcraft, it is off the GCD and replaces your next auto attack making it ideal for dumping rage. It's worth noting that it has an increased threat coefficient and is an important for tanks and their threat generation.
撕裂
: Applies a Bleed effect that deals damage over time, this ability can be useful vs. Rogues to keep them out of stealth.
断筋
: This ability has quite a few applications in PVE, it can be used to proc things like

: A powerful attack that can only be used after an enemy dodges your attack.
复仇
: An attack that can only be used after you dodge, block, or parry an enemy attack, this ability generates a high amount of threat.
顺劈斩
: Similar to

this ability is off the GCD and replaces your next auto attack, this attack hits an additional target as well.
斩杀
: A powerful finishing blow that uses all of your rage, can only be used on enemies below 20%.
猛击
: One of Warrior's more niche abilities, Slam has a cast time and replaces your auto attack; so, if you have a weapon with a 3.8 speed and cast slam it would be as if you forced it to have a 1.5 swing speed instead. The cast time can be reduced via talents.
旋风斩
: One of Warrior's most powerful abilities, this skill deals high damage in both single target and AoE situations.
嗜血
: The 31 point talent in the Fury tree, deals high damage based off of your attack power.
致死打击
: The 31 point talent in the Arms tree, deals high damage based off of your weapon damage.
盾牌猛击
: The 31 point talent in the Protection tree, deals damage and generates a high amount of threat.
Defensive Abilities
盾牌格挡
: Dramatically increases block chance for a small time, also makes you immune to crushing blows while active.
缴械
: Disarms your target, in PVP the player will actually have their melee weapon removed for the duration, in PVE the target loses attack power.
挫志怒吼
: A shout that reduces nearby enemies' attack power.
雷霆一击
: Deals damage to up to 4 nearby enemies, these enemies will also have their attack speed slowed for a short duration.
Utility Abilities
战斗怒吼
: A shout that increases nearby party member's attack power.
破甲攻击
: Reduces the target's armor stacking up to 5 times; this ability causes a high amount of threat.
盾击
: Interrupts the target's spellcast, locking them out of the same school of magic for 6 seconds. Requires a shield to use.
拳击
: Interrupts the target's spellcast, locking them out of the same school of magic for 4 seconds.
冲锋
: Charges to an enemy target and generates rage, cannot be used in combat.
拦截
: Charges to an enemy target, costs rage, can be used in combat.
嘲讽
: Forces the enemy target to attack you, also causes you to become the highest on the target's threat table.
惩戒痛击
: Forces the enemy target to attack you for a short duration.
挑战怒吼
: Forces all nearby enemies to attack you for a short duration.
破胆怒吼
: Fears your target in place, other nearby enemies run away in fear.
狂暴之怒
: Causes the Warrior to become immune to Fear and Incapacitate effects for a short duration; you also generate extra rage from taking damage.
刺耳怒吼
: In the 3rd tier of the Fury tree, this ability slows nearby enemies.

: In the 5th tier of the Protection tree, this ability stuns an enemy target for 5 seconds.

is widely considered the most powerful damage cooldown in Classic World of Warcraft.

: From the 5th tier in the Arms talent tree, this ability causes your next several attacks to strike an additional enemy.
Debuffs in Classic WoW
Be mindful when using Warrior spells that apply debuffs on enemies that they may only have 16 debuffs on them at a time, including raid bosses. With this limitation, usually large raid groups will assign specific players to apply certain debuffs, while others refrain from using them. I'd recommend including real threat modifiers and a deeper discussion on threat mechanics here. IMO an advanced guide should provide the tools for players to develop a deeper understanding - not just tell them which abilities to use.

Need to add a clarification. Taunt sets you to 100% threat
for the duration of the debuff
once the taunt falls off the temporary threat gained is lost

Bloodrage then Battleshout generates much better aggro than Demo shout. have the non-tank warrior spam demo and thundeclap. Tank shouldnt be wasting rage on it.
Range pull main target, Bloodrage, Battleshout, shieldblock, revenge, sunder. Then start spreading autoattacks to other targets.

I also noticed a similar thing in regards to the
愤怒掌控
talent on the Talents & Builds page, it would seem that the guide assumes that Anger Management provides a trickle of rage gain during combat, post-2.0 Anger Management provided 1 rage every 3 seconds. Vanilla Anger Management's only use was maintaining rage for longer out of combat.

Slam does not replace your next auto attack, only Heroic Strike and Cleave do. Slam resets the swing timer, which is a little different - it would be more accurate to say that it delays your next auto attack, rather than replaces it.

I did some number crunching, and it turns out that, for a Dual Wielding Fury-Prot, Heroic Strike beats out Sunder Armor in terms of Threat per Rage spent.
Yes, you lose the Rage generation on your main hand when you use HS, however, your off-hand doesn't suffer the DW 19% hit-penalty while HS is queued up. This offsets the extra rage spent to some extent and also increases your offhand damage and thus your Threat generation. In addition, HS can crit, Sunder cannot.
This works best if you can actually spam HS non-stop without running out of Rage. If you cannot sustain it and lose out on the constant offhand hit "bonus" thing, it will be slightly worse than Sunder Armor.
So, here is my tip. If you cannot quite sustain HS, pool your Rage for a bit at around 70-80 until you gain a nice big buff like an enrage or a Crusader proc, then queue HS nonstop. That way you will get the most out of that buff since you completely eliminate the DW hit penalty, and your buffed up offhand might just give you enough rage to sustain HS throughout the duration.
(In case you are wondering, I did substract the base damage portion of HS and only counted the bonus damage and threat for this)

I think one should mention, that this guide is not very accurate nowadays. (*) For P5 (AQ) there will be a new meta for tanking which will include the use of Battle Shout Rank 7 (required AQ Book). Also it is worth noticing, that even in P1-P4, a Fury Prot would rather use Heroic Strike then Sunder Armor to generate threat. Sure, as Fury Prot you can use SA as your first global cooldown (to apply 5 stacks as soon as possible). Of course EVERY Warrior (meaning the DPS) should use SA as your first global cooldown...
For dungeons (5 / 10 people) - where you dont have as much rage as you have in raid environment - I would also suggest tanking by engaging (for example a group of 3 mobs) with Pull (infight) -> Bloodrage -> Demo Shout OR Battle Shout (if you can reach all other 4 group members with it) and then starting to spam Cleave and use TAB to cycle through the mobs (Cleave -> TAB new target -> Cleave -> TAB -> ....).
(*) for reference: (I cant post links) just google for shout_spam_imp_expose_armor_the_new_meta_for - its on reddit.
