Venthyr Legendary

now also increases your Versatility by 0.5%. Each combo point spent while
is active decreases its cooldown by 1 sec.
Soulbinds Changed
:
Nadjia the Mistblade
now reduces incoming interrupt, snare and root effects by 15% (was 25%).
Theotar the Mad Duke
's Mastery increased by 5%.
Fixed an issue that caused
application to break Stealth effects.
General Draven
absorb value increased to 20% of maximum health (was 15%).
now provides 1% of a primary stat every 2 seconds (was 3 seconds) and stacks up to 5 (was 4) while you are above 80% health.
Venthyr Rogue Covenant Abilities
Venthyr Rogue Class Ability:
The Venthyr Class Ability for Rogues of all specializations is
. This ability combines good damage with a stat buff.
When you use it, it will lash out dealing shadow damage against the target, and apply a Haste buff on you. For the next 12 seconds, every finisher will cause an additional lash, the damage of which is scaling with the number of combo points spent. For every combo point, you also get a stack on the Haste buff. When the 12s are over or your target dies early, you will get the Haste buff persisted for another 12s. Should the target die early, you will also get 10 stacks on the buff for free, probably as compensation for losing some time. The buff is capped at 30 stacks.
Venthyr Conduit for
The corresponding conduit that modifies this ability is
, which increases the damage of all lashes. It also adds an additional lash when you use the ability that is working as if you used a four combo point finisher.
This is the strongest existing conduit for the spec.
Assassination Rogue Conduit Guide
Venthyr Rogue Signature Ability:
The ability to create a
sounds cool, but can be a bit underwhelming. This is mostly due to the fact that it has a 1.5s cast time (in which you can already cross a fair part of the maximum distance just by running), so that Door of Shadows becomes only a secondary movement cooldown in our toolkit. It has its uses but does not impress very much alongside
and
and in comparison to the other Covenant signature abilities.
Some soulbind traits can modify this and add additional facets to the ability. Nothing makes it impressive.
Venthyr Exclusive Legendary for Assassination Rogues
Venthyr Legendary
:
now also increases your Versatility by 0.5%. Each combo point spent while
is active decreases it's cooldown by 1 sec.
This is the strongest of the new legendaries and a top choice for Assassination and Subtlety, reinforcing the power of this covenant even more.
Other Legendary Interactions for Venthyr Assassination Rogues
There are no noteworthy legendary interactions that should affect this covenant and soulbind choice or what legendary you want to target.
Assassination Rogue Legendary Guide
Best Venthyr Assassination Rogue Max Renown 80 Soulbind
On the way to Renown 80, the above separation continues to be generally good.
However, at Renown 54, Theotar unlocks
. With the buff from the item up, Theotar looks to be the strongest covenant, albeit Nadjia continues to be very close. Nadjia generally is a solid all-around option with strong offensive capabilities in every regard. The reason we recommend Nadjia over Theotar revolves around the randomness of the buff from
. While powerful, half of the buffs are significantly weaker, those being
Agility
and
Versatility
. I want to reiterate that the difference between the two soulbinds is
VERY
minor and usually even changes based on character.
The below Soulbind Calculator is valid starting at Renown 54. Conduits are socketed in order of highest priority from top to bottom in order to facilitate the greatest benefit when empowering conduit rows from renown. Please see our
Assassination Rogue Conduit Guide
for more information on Conduits including Empowered Conduits.

Venthyr Assassination Rogue Covenant Rotation Changes
As usual, this page only highlights the specific use case of the class and signature abilities. To see how they fit within the context of the entire spec, we encourage you to check the other pages in the guide related to the context you are looking for:
Assassination Rogue Rotation Guide
It is worth synching Flagellation with
as long as the delays do not cost you a use of the ability. It is also worth using it right before a finisher to facilitate quick stacking.
With
through
, and our second legendary of choice
, both
and
line up with each other every minute. You should
always
prepare your usages to sync them. Casting them at the same time is
not
advised. For more info on how to use these cooldowns together, see the below explanation.
There is not much to be said about Door of Shadows rotationally. Use it at will when you need the teleport and/or the modified effects from your active soulbind. Keep in mind that it has a 1.5s cast time, so you may not want to use it when you can attack a target instead.
Snapshotting Simplified
The reason Venthyr plays differently from the other specs is because the 4 piece bonus
snapshots
haste
values on application of a dot. It does not snapshot any other aspect of the bleed/poison, only the tick rate. We can abuse this fact by playing around the haste bonus from
.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept of Snapshotting, I like to explain it in terms of photography. Imagine you are taking a video of a moving car. As this car accelerates down the road, you can see it moving in every frame of the video in one continuous motion. This represents the baseline function of haste in the game. As your character gains haste, you can see in real time your dots speed up alongside it. If your character doubles haste, your dots will tick at twice the speed. All of Assassinations Bleeds and Poisons work in this manor as a baseline.
However with the tier bonus, applying a bleed locks its tick rate for the remaining duration. Going back to our car example, you can think of this as taking a series of still images, rather than a full video. Instead of the continuous video and smooth tick rate of the dot during
you now get a staggered, stepped increase in tick rate only when you apply a new dot.
Another way to think of it is as a dynamic tick rate versus a locked tick rate. In a dynamic, non-snapshot dot, you can gain and lose haste throughout the entire dot and it updates the tick rate along with it. In a locked system, you cannot change the rate of the dot in any way until it expires or is reapplied.
Snapshotting Example in Context
Let's do an example to solidify our understanding of this snapshot and how tick rates work. This can get very complicated and involves some math, but luckily this is just information and explanation behind the logic, nothing you need to remember for practical purposes! We'll do two situations.
In this first situation, we apply
without
. This does NOT snapshot your haste values. You then
the target with (for example) 25% haste. This
will now tick at a rate of once every 2 / (1 + 0.25) seconds, which comes out to once every 1.6 seconds. You then
with 5 combo points, stacking your
5 times, giving you another 5% haste.
is not snapshot, so it dynamically updates to its new tick rate of 2 / (1 + 0.3) seconds, which comes out to once every 1.53 seconds. Repeat this process until
runs out. Since these are not round numbers, you will get a partial tick at the end of the
corresponding to the remaining damage, so don't worry! You don't lose any damage due to haste! This also is the reason why there are no breakpoints on any haste values.
Now let's do the same situation, but with
! We go through the same steps, apply
, cast
with 25% haste, the tick rate is now once every 1.6 seconds. Since we have our 4 piece bonus
, this now gets snapshot to once every 0.8 seconds. Continuing this, we now cast
with 5 combo points, stacking your
5 times, giving you another 5% haste. The same as before. However this time, the
we cast earlier does
not
increase its tick rate. It was snapshot at application with 25% haste, and that's where it will stay locked until it expires or is overridden, no matter how your haste changes during it.
How we can use this to our advantage
While snapshotting is a very complicated topic, luckily its impact on the rotation is fairly minimal aside from some shuffling to our cooldowns. While normally we would want to pair up
and
together, we actually want to wait a few seconds to get some extra haste from
before snapshotting our tick rates with
. This results in the following setup:
Generate 4 or more combo points in preparation to finish. This typically involves
.
(or
if
is not refreshable).
to fill your combo points.
, which now has finished our preperation. All of our dots are up and we have finished twice, increasing our haste significantly from
.
now snapshots our tick rate.
finishes out our combo
This set combination of cooldowns should be used every minute, as
comes off cooldown alongside
every minute through our legendary choices,
and
(through
)
What this achieves is holding off on snapshotting our bleeds with
for as long as possible. If we would have cast
with
at the start we would have lost out between 10% and 15% haste on the first dots, and carried it on throughout
.
There is however one more trick we can pull out of our leathery sleeves, and that is what is usually referred to as the "overhang". Since our bleeds are snapshot and locked to their tick rate, they also do not decrease their tick rate after
expires. This allows us to cast
and
in the last 3 seconds of
, keeping the doubled tick rate for a couple seconds after
expires. The rules to do this optimally are as follows:
If the remaining duration of
is 3 seconds or less:
Refresh
if the remaining duration is 8 seconds or less.
Refresh
if the remaining duration is 7 seconds or less.
Do not force a refresh of
unless it naturally lines up in pandemic range
(the last 1.8 seconds of the dot)
.
If the remaining duration of
is more than 3 seconds:
if
would fall off.
Refresh
in pandemic range
(the last 3.6 seconds of the dot)
.
Refresh
in pandemic range
(the last 2.7 seconds of the dot)
.
Refresh
in pandemic range
(the last 1.8 seconds of the dot)
.
until any of the above conditions are true.
(This results in
being mostly a filler spell)
For those who prefer a visual aid, I hope this is useful:
Venthyr Assassination Rogue Talent Builds
Your talent build changes drastically when playing Venthyr. The main interaction here is with the 4 piece bonus
and its interactions with the spell
. I think it is important to explain and understand the
why
and not just the what, so If you haven't yet, I would suggest reading the snapshotting info I wrote in the rotation section above. It can get very complicated, so please do not feel pressured to understand the intricacies, but it does help inform us in our choices.
You'll see three main changes with Venthyr over other Covenants. Typically the other covenants will play
into
, and stick with the passive
for single target encounters. However for Venthyr we have different priorities. We're leaning hard into the snapshotting and abusing it as much as possible. In order to do that, we have to stack up our
quickly and efficiently. Both
as well as
here do the job perfectly, allowing us quick and consistent sources of combo points to start the ramp and carry the haste into our cooldowns.
rounds out our talents as a bit of a surprise appearance, but considering
has no interaction with haste, it stands to reason that a haste bleed such as
has the ability to pull ahead with all the snapshotting and haste we're playing around in this build.
For more info see the below Talent Build or visit our Talent page.

Venthyr Assassination Rogue Gearing Differences
Being part of the Venthyr covenant does not really affect your gearing strategy or your stat priorities. You may want to prioritize Haste and Critical Strike slightly more, however this usually is a subtle difference and nothing to worry about. As usual, we encourage you to sim yourself, and to also consider that, for generic play, the primary stat Agility provided by item level upgrades typically outweighs "better" secondary stats.

Venthyr Assassination Rogue Soulbinds Explained
Across all classes and specs, Venthyr have access to the same three soulbinds:
Nadjia the Mistblade
,
Theotar the Mad Duke
and
General Draven
. They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Venthyr Covenant.
We've summarized a few traits for each soulbind below, along with potential conduits to slot in, below. Do bear in mind that these recommendations are based on a PvE DPS perspective. You have every right to adjust your soulbind trees to your and your group's own needs. If you have an incentive to pick a utility or survivability option instead of throughput traits, don't let this guide stop you from doing so.
Nadjia the Mistblade grants you these important traits:
is a pretty good initial power, especially for longer fights where you can expect this to trigger without decays from dropping combat.
is an interesting priority damage trait that, according to simulations, is worth the sacrifice of the second Potency conduit on its row, specifically in pure single target. While powerful, it loses a lot of value in a fight with target swapping and for this reason, tends to fall out of favor.
is also a damage increase; however, in terms of damage gained compared to the alternate paths, it does not seem to be worth the pick, unless for some reason you want the Endurance conduit.
adds a new effect on top of
's Euphoria buff. Afte the Haste buff expires, you gain 20% Crit or Versatility, depending on what you have more of. This is pretty powerful, assuming a fight is long enough for you to gain Euphoria in the first place.
An example tree to follow on this soulbind is as follows.
Theotar the Mad Duke provides a couple of interesting nodes:
is a DPS-increasing trait that you can get early on. For Single Target, it is not as strong as Nadjia's alternative, but the Mastery is great for content with AoE. It requires you to stand in a specific spot, however.
is an interesting trait where I really recommend running a personal simulation to see if it is worth taking instead of the second Potency conduit. It can very well be or not be worth it, depending on what you have available at what rank.
has numerically not been impressive in simulations as it is too rare of a gain. Unless you desire the FInesse conduit, the other paths are probably better.
is basically a soulbind-specific flask. You can get the item from Theotar in Sinfall and use it for a 4h buff. The buff persists through death, so that is nothing to worry about. You can, however, not change your soulbind and keep the effect. The item itself has a 1h cooldown so you cannot "reroll" the buff for the first hour. After that, it's up to you if you want to re-roll it. They should all be relatively close. Based on simulations, I would only recommend rolling off the Agility buff but keeping the secondary stat ones.
An example tree can be seen below.
General Draven grants access to the following notable traits:
can be an interesting choice when you get to interrupt very often. This may or may not be an option for dungeons if you feel comfortable with it.
is a potentially powerful damage increase. If you can stay above 50-80% health for most of the time, the gain from this trait should be the best in its row. During progress and whenever you have to deal with regularly incoming heavy damage then you may want to go for one of the other paths though.
is a damage increase that is not too impressive against a single target. It gets better against up to 3.
Here is an example tree for this soulbind.
Double Legendaries for Venthyr Assassination Rogue
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Venthyr Assassination Rogue even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.
