Vaelastrasz the Corrupt Notable Classes
s are particularly powerful in this fight, as they are able to spam their combo builders without needing to wait for Energy regeneration. This is especially true for Dagger Rogues with
. Just make sure to use
on cooldown and
on tank transitions!
s are also particularly powerful as they are able to reset their threat every tank transition via
s are also incredibly powerful, as Vael starts at 30% health and they are able to spam max Rage
s on the boss after 20% health. Just be extremely careful of your threat, as Warriors have no way to drop threat.
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt Quick Tips
will give you near infinite resources, so you are able to go wild on DPS! However, threat is extremely important on this fight, especially after the tank gets hit with Burning Adrenaline. Be careful and attempt to drop threat once a tank transition is about to happen.
When affected with
, move to the back of the room and deal as much damage as possible before you die!
You will tank to have 5 tanks in the Vaelastrasz fight, as a tank transition happens every 45 seconds. The next tank in the rotation should be building threat and able to replace the main tank as soon as the transition happens with
At the final 20% of the boss, Warriors are able to spam max Rage
s on Vaelastrasz, but be careful to not accidently outthreat the tank currently tanking the boss.
Because of the nature of
, healers are able to forego Spirit/MP5 gear and either funnel Fire Resistance of full +Healing gear. Ideally you will want to assign a healer to spam heal a specific group, and a couple extra healers to bomb heals on the main tank.
All healers must be aware of the tank order and be ready to swap heals to the new tank as soon as the tank swaps happen.
Because of the constant
damage, healers must also be assigned to heal groups. Ideally, you will want at least 8 Priests with 1 Priest in each group spamming
. If you do not have enough Priests for this task, Druids alternating
s also work well.
Before the Pull
, you can find some
s around Vaelastrasz. These mobs will flee once your raid approaches Vael, but they can be taunted and killed for some early sources of
Vaelastrasz starts the fight with 30% health left, but do not let his low health % fool you - You will need everything you have to defeat the Guild Destroyer!
Fire Resistance helps immensely on this fight, and players can afford to sacrifice some gear for it, as
grants everyone in the raid near infinite resources for the duration of the fight. However, as the DPS check for Vael is very tight, DPS players must balance out Fire Resistance without sacrificing too much DPS.
When first engaging Vaelastrasz, he will be friendly, so all the main tank needs to do is talk with the red dragon to begin the fight. After the first wipe, Vael will become hostile, so the raid will need to stick to the walls on the southern side of the room to avoid unwanted aggro.
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt Abilities and Strategy
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt is a tight DPS check fight, and one of the most intense fights of Classic WoW.
Positioning is critical for Vaelastrasz, as he is a threat to players on both the front (with
) and the back (with
). Tanks must tank Vael facing Nefarius' throne, while the melee should DPS Vael from the right side, closer to his front legs (but do not get closer than his front shoulders, as you risk getting Cleaved to death). The tank that will take Vael after the current main tank is hit with
should be closer to Vael's front and ready to take over the main tank's spot.
When a player becomes afflicted with
, they should immediately move away from the raid and deal as much damage as they possibly can before dying.
Essence of the Red
The DPS and healing requirements for Vaelastrasz are incredibly taxing. Thankfully, as soon as Vael is engaged, he buffs the entire raid with
- This ability empowers all players, granting them 500 Mana/50 Energy/20 Rage every second for 3 minutes. While Essence of the Red is active, resources are a non-issue, and this buff effectively works as a hard Enrage timer for the fight, as your raid will likely not have resources for very long after it fades.
However, the constant resources also means that threat is a big of an issue as ever, especially with the next mechanic of the fight, Burning Adrenaline.
Burning Adrenaline and Tank Swaps
The second main important mechanic of the Vaelastrasz the Corrupt encounter is
. Every 15 seconds, Vael will grant that buff to a mana-user - Burning Adrenaline increases all damage done by 100% and makes all spells instant cast, but drains 5% of the player's maximum HP every second until they die. Once a player affected by Burning Adrenaline dies, they will deal 4k-6k Fire damage to anyone surrounding them.
When a player is affected by Burning Adrenaline, they should immediately move to a place away from the rest of the raid, usually the far back of Vael's boss room, then deal as much damage is possible until they die from the debuff.
Every 45 seconds, Vael will instead give Burning Adrenaline to whoever is on top of his threat list, or the current main tank for the boss. When this happens, a second tank should be ready to move to the main tank's position and spam high threat moves to take aggro off Vael while the main tank stays in position and attempts to deal some damage in the time he has before dying, while healers start moving healing off to the next tank. Because of this, it is preferred to have 5 tanks for Vaelastrasz.
Classes that have threat drops should be using them often - Hunters should be able to
every tank transition, while Rogues can either use
on cooldown or
on the first tank transition, generally the most dangerous of them all.
Rogues and Druids in Feral Cat Form should not be affected by Burning Adrenaline unless they are on top of the threat list, which usually means its a wipe. Particularly skilled Restoration Druids are able to dodge Burning Adrenaline by changing into
as the debuff is going out, but be sure your assigned group is properly healed before doing so!
Almost all of the damage Vaelastrasz deals is Fire damage, so having some degree of Fire Resistance is critical for Vaelastrasz. Tanks and Healers in particular should be able to go all out on Fire Resistance gear, as
grants almost infinite resources and allows healers to freely spam heals on the tanks and the raid.
DPS players do not have the same luxury, as the fight does need to end within the 3 minutes of the
buff. A good way to help obtain some quick resistance is by using
- These give you 50 Fire Resistance and last for exactly 3 minutes. Another good potion is the old faithful
Tanks will take by far most of the Fire damage in the fight with
, but everyone in the raid will take consistent damage from

It should be Tier 2 Belts. You have Bracers in the loot title :)
If Vael has 991,500 HP, it takes 5,508 raid dps to kill before the 3 minute buff wears off.
5 Tanks? I guess if your healers are crap and they just let them randomly die...
Vael has 1 miliion HP, that's slightly more than Golemagg. My guild (which is rather mediocre) does about 15,000dps during execute, and that's with finite ressources.
If the boss doesn't die after the second tank swap (1:30 min), you are doing something wrong.
This guide is all fubar for classic. Val should die in under 40 seconds....No tanks are wearing fire resist. Pop a FR pot right after Razor dies. MT don't go in on the goblins so you don't waste your FR absorb and can use another FR pot while on boss. "If druid tank put it in a powershift macro." Fury tank, or Druid pummler tank and do insane aggro = easy kill.
