With precedent for depth in the Reputation system set with the
Mists of Pandaria
Tillers Friends reputations, and continuing with Bodyguards and Fisherfriends in
Warlords of Draenor
and
Legion
, a slightly different secondary Reputation system is now front and center in
Shadowlands
:
Renown
. Renown is a Covenant "reputation" that players will earn once they have selected and joined a Covenant at level 60.
In this Shadowlands guide, we explain how to earn Renown, at what level Soulbind traits can be unlocked at, additional rewards, and your weekly progression.
What is Covenant Renown in Shadowlands?
Renown is a
Covenant specific
progression system that will measure and build your standing with your chosen Covenent. Renown builds your
Trust
within your Covenant, influences your connection to your
Soulbinds
, and allows you access to exclusive pets, mounts, and transmogs. Unlike the two APs (Artifact Power and Azerite Power) in the previous expansions, Renown is
not an open-ended grind
, it is a metered progression system that you will work through as you play the game.
Renown Changes in Shadowlands Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination
Renown has seen substantial additions in Chains of Domination. The Renown cap has been increased to 80.
Note: The first week of Patch 9.1 you will only be able to earn 2 Renown levels. On subsequent weeks you will earn 3 Renown levels per week.
There are rewards for every new level of Renown, culminating in a new title at Renown 80.
Kyrian
: <Character Name>, Disciple of Devotion
Necrolord
: <Character Name>, Sword of the Primus
Night Fae
: <Character Name>, Protector of the Weald

Mikanikos, Bonesmith Heirmir, Koryan, and Draven at Renown 41, 48, 53, and 57
Each Soulbind will gain two new Traits and one new Capper Trait.
Each Soulbind will gain three new Conduit slots: one Potency, one Endurance, and one Finesse.
Once all of the new Conduit rows are unlocked, each of the original 6 Conduit Rows will be re-unlocked to become
Enhanced
:
Pelegos, Marileth, Niya, and Nadjia at Renown 63, 66, 68, 72, 73, and 78
Kleia, Emeni, Dreamweaver, and Theotar at Renown 61, 64, 67, 70, 75, and 79

Shadowlands Covenants Overview Shadowlands Soulbinds
Unlocking Soulbind Rows and Potency Conduits through Covenant Renown in Shadowlands
One of the most important aspects of Renown is unlocking Conduit slots for your Soulbinds. Each Conduit slot requires a different level of Renown.
Unlocking Potency Conduit Slots in Soulbinds
There are 3 Potency Conduits in each Soulbind tree. The chart below shows you when each Soulbind will unlock the first and secondary Potency conduit, in terms of Renown and what week of the expansion it will be.
Of particular note, the second potency conduit slot for
Dreamweaver
can be unlocked the
week of Mythic Castle Nathria
, compared to all the other Soulbinds which take at least another 3 weeks to unlock. This is because this Potency Conduit slot is much higher in the tree than all other Soulbinds. If your class has strong Potency Conduits, you may wish to go Dreamweaver for early progression!

Unlocking Soulbind Traits
Each of the Soulbinds will unlock Traits at different Renown ranks. You will unlock your second Soulbind at
Renown 5
, and you'll unlock your third Soulbind at
Renown 22
. There are some minor differences between Covenants for Soulbind unlocks. You'll always unlock a Soulbind no matter what Covenant you are in, but some Covenants swap which Soulbind.

Renown
As you progress through your Covenant’s story, you’ll build Renown and increase the amount of trust your character has earned within the Covenant. Renown is earned by performing worthy actions through the Covenant Campaign, returning Anima to the Sanctum, and by rescuing souls from the Maw.
Increasing your Renown will grant specific rewards at each Renown Level, including:
Unlocking a new row of power for a Soulbind character.
Increasing the item level of items you receive from World Quests.
Increasing the maximum potential level of the features within your Sanctum.
Earning legendary recipes for the runecrafter in Torghast.
Earning unique Covenant-themed cosmetic items such as mounts, pets, a title, back attachment transmog, and transmog armor.
Each week, you will pick up two quests in your Sanctum. Each of these quests will award you a Renown level.
The first quests ask that you deposit a certain of Anima into your reservoir in your Sanctum.
The second weekly quests send you to the Maw to recover souls from the clutches of the Jailer.
Completing each chapter of your Covenant Campaign will also provide an additional Renown Level, so these will be quests that you want to focus on.
Note: If you fall behind or are leveling an alternate character, you’ll be able to earn additional Renown from endgame activities such as dungeons, raids, PvP, and Callings until you’ve reached the current maximum.
In his Developer Update with Jon Height, Ion Hazzikostas gave a brief overview of the Renown system.

Sounds like flying is going to be a time gated rep grind to me, even worse. Stop this crap. It isn't the rep that is annoying, it is the fact that it is time gated after the rep grind. Seriously, blizz and wowhead don't get it.
Also, it's obvious to everyone that renown is time gated reputation, renaming reputation and time gating it didn't fool anyone.

much like everything else lately, blizz can't, or won't, keep to what they tell us. they tell us flying won't be based on "pathfinder" now it is. telling us things will be easy for catch-up but they double the reqirements. just give me some honesty here blizz

How much renown is required per level? On beta I currently have '41 renown' but I'm still Renown Level 0.
评论来自
Vodmorqele
These posts and guides need to clarify that we can not reach renown level 4 or above in week one.
Joining the covenant:
Renown 0 -> Renown 1
Weekly 1000 Anima quest:
Renown 1 -> Renown 2
Weekly Lost Souls quest:
Renown 2 -> Renown 3
The Campaign quest following this asks for Renown 5, and that seemingly will not be possible until week two.

On what level can I start gathering Renown on alts ?

I recently switched from Kyrian to Night Fae. I got to renown 6 but now it seems like nothing is giving me renown. The cap this week is 12 so I should be able to get more. I have finished all the story quests available to me. I've done dungeons, raid, and callings and nothing has given me renown. Am i missing something or is this a bug?

I think that it would be helpful to use the actual dates when referring to weekly renown caps instead of week 1 week 2 for instance Dec.22-Dec.29
thanks

unless im missing something else, this is completely false. ive joined another covenant past wednesday and been doing M+ and Callings every day. and did not recieve a single renown level

This is all I know from playing late alts and switching covenants:
These are the mandatory sources, meaning you will only get catch-up renown if it these 3 sources won't make you go over the cap:
- 1000 Anima of the week.
- 5/10 souls rescued from the maw.
- Covenant quests. You have to consider also all the quests that are unlocked for the current week (even if you can't do them because you lack the required renown). I think is around a token per chapter.
These are the optional sources that are reliable to obtain renown tokens:
- The weekly world boss.
- Callings quests. These will only award if it says so in the reward slot.
The PvP, Dungeons, Raid sources are not reliable and I would not suggest doing them just for the renown token. Only once you have done all the mandatory and reliable sources you should try doing dungeons or pvp.
I have yet to receive a renown token from sources such as pvp, dungeons and raids so I can't say how probable it is.

Just one question about the Shadowlands Pathfinder (once flying becomes available in the future), would it still be an account-bound unlockable like the previous Pathfinder achievements?
Reason why I'm asking is because I'd rather not do all four covenant campaigns in one character, as this would be FAR too much to ask for something that would be dead handy for alts that are in need of catching up.

Any 9.1 updates on this? Do we still need to do the same boring weekly quests, collecting souls and anima?

Yes! "Renown 46: The item level of your World Quest rewards is increased." Unfortunately, this only happens once.

have the sources for renown changed in 9.1? Specifically when you are going from 40?

seems like each daily quest for night fae has been equipment and no renown quests. need one more for flying and not one daily in a week has been for renown.

In 9.1 if you are behind and leveling an alt or swapped covs, there are a lot of cov campaign quests that reward double renown, the lost souls DID reward renown for me, as long as you aren't caught up, mythic + seem to be a guaranteed renown to catch up at the end of dung.

This statement is wrong I believe:
Note: The first week of Patch 9.1 you will only be able to earn 2 Renown levels. On subsequent weeks you will earn 3 Renown levels per week.
I don't think you earn 3 Renown levels on all subsequent weeks.
