WoW Classic Lunar Festival Holiday

2024's Lunar Festival starts February 3 and ends February 17th, 2024
in Classic WoW. The Lunar Festival is held every year starting on a date that typically coincides with the Chinese New Year.
Ancestors of Azeroth across Kalimdor and East Kingdoms are praised and honored by both Horde and Alliance. There's a celebration in Moonglade, and numerous
先祖硬币
quests to complete and collect to purchase festive garb, profession patterns, and fireworks!
This guide covers all the items you can buy, quests you can complete, and locations of all the elders.
Rewards that are relevant for Raiding
春节饺子
: This is one of the few food items in the game that give you mana, which allows you to combine it with regular water for incredibly quick mana restoration outside of combat. This is particularly useful for casters, especially those interested in speedrunning. You can obtain up to 400 of them per year by collecting Coins of Ancestry and spending them at
瓦拉达尔·星歌
.
幸运烟花束
: This can be used near a Cluster Launcher to give anyone close to it
Lunar Fortune
. This buff grants you +250 HP that stacks with everything and lasts for 30 minutes. You can get these from opening the
红包
that will show up in your mailbox after visiting the Elders.
结构图:烟花束发射器
: The crafted Cluster Launcher allows you to make use of the Lucky Rocket Clusters even after the Lunar Festival event ends. However, it can only be placed in areas that count as outdoors, so you typically have to use it before entering raids. This pattern can be bought from
法蕾尔·星歌
and costs five
先祖硬币
.
艾露恩的灯笼
and
长者的月亮石
: While these are not quite as useful as the other items mentioned, you can use the moonstones to mark a specific spot if you are explaining an encounter that relies on positioning. The moonstones themself can be found in the
红包
s, but the Lantern is a reward from the Omen raid quest.
Differences between Classic and Retail Lunar Festivals
For those players who have been doing the Lunar Festival activities over the year, you'll find some important differences to consider between Classic Lunar Festival and what it has become. Fundamentally, there has been little change over the years in how the Festival is celebrated, but the particulars are not quite the same.
Many Elders are not in the same places between Retail and Classic. After Cataclysm, many elders changed locations due to zone changes. Some did not actually change locations, but the overall zone coordinates changed, so Retail information about coordinates can lead you astray.
In Classic, Elder quests giving
先祖硬币
give reputation, but no experience.
In Classic, the
红包
will appear in your mailbox a couple hours after completing the elder's quest, as opposed to getting it instantly.
Festival items such as fireworks, recipes, and festival cosmetics are gained through quests, not through traditional vendors. These quests do not give experience.
Achievements are present in Retail but not in Classic.
The Lunar Festival Quests: Getting to Moonglade
Lunar Emissary / Lunar Herald
In each of the six major cities, you will find quest givers that will give you the first quest to the Lunar Festival. These are called Lunar Festival Emissaries on the Alliance side and Lunar Festival Heralds on the Horde side. While it's not strictly necessary to start with these NPCs -- you can go directly to the Lunar Festival areas and pick up the first quests there -- these quests do give you 5
塞纳里奥议会
reputation, so starting with the breadcrumb does give a small reward.

Lunar Festival Harbinger
The Lunar Festival Harbinger is located in the main Lunar Festival areas of each of the six major cities. The Elders assigned to each city can also be found here.
You can go directly to the Lunar Festival Harbingers in each city rather than going through the Lunar Festival Emissary or Herald if you prefer. This starts the quest line that gets you easy access to Moonglade.

Lunar Harbinger Quests:
春节烟花
:
Launch 8 Lunar Fireworks and 2 Cluster Fireworks and return to a Lunar Festival Harbinger at any capital city.
The lunar fireworks can be purchased from a
春节商人
, located near the Lunar Festival Harbingers. You need to purchase 8 Small Rockets and 2 Rocket Clusters. Color doesn't matter. The prices are not affected by city reputation, as these vendors are on
塞纳里奥议会
reputation. The entire purchase will cost .
You can launch these right next to the vendor. They will go off in rocket launchers located in the center of the Lunar Festival gathering.
Turn in this quest and you will receive
春节邀请函
and 50 Reputation with
塞纳里奥议会
(no experience).
春节邀请函
The
春节邀请函
is your ticket to Moonglade and beyond. Your first use for it is to complete the followup quest,
瓦拉达尔·星歌
Use your Lunar Festival Invitation in the moonlight to travel to Moonglade. Speak with Valadar Starsong in Nighthaven when you arrive.
Go into the empty moonlight in the middle of the Lunar Festival area and click on your
春节邀请函
. This will teleport you to Moonglade, in an area southwest of the village of Nighthaven. Follow the road heading north into Nighthaven to
瓦拉达尔·星歌
to turn in this quest.
The
春节邀请函
can be used multiple times and lasts a full 24 hours. You can even teleport back to one of your faction's capital cities by stepping into the correct beam of moonlight and clicking the item.
Once your invitation has disappeared, you can simply return to any
春节预告者
to pick up another one.
A few interesting uses of the Lunar Festival Invitation:
Unless you are playing a Druid, this is the easiest way to pick up the Moonglade flight point. Make sure to visit the flight masters here:
辛德拉尔
at /way 48, 67, or
法斯托恩
at /way 32, 66.
Even with the 10-minute cooldown, it can be the quickest way to move between the three capital cities of your faction. It's particularly great for safely moving fresh night elf characters from Kalimdor to the Eastern Kingdoms.
Moonglade Coin of Ancestry Rewards
All recipe and item quests require
先祖硬币
, which are collected from Elders around Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. See below for the locations of these elders.
Coin of Ancestry Engineering and Tailoring Recipe Rewards
法蕾尔·星歌
in Nighthaven will trade
先祖硬币
for several recipes. These come in the form of quests that depend on your character level, not as items you can purchase outright.
You can do these quests more than once to get copies of all recipes when multiple choices are given.
All Engineering schematics for Rockets are Bind on Pickup; the Engineering schematics for the two Launchers and the Tailoring recipes are not.

For the event specifically, Elune's Candle can be used against Omen and his minions. It will freeze his minions in place, and damages both minions and Omen himself. Otherwise, it simply shoots fireworks.
Although it is unique and has a limited amount of charges, you are able to buy additional ones from the vendor for after completing the
先祖硬币
quest, so you could stock up on them by mailing them to your other characters.
Finally, if you are out of line of sight of your target, using this item will not use up a charge or trigger the cooldown, allowing you to shoot fireworks as fast as you can hit the button.

Summon Omen, defeat him and gain Elune's Blessing. Return to Valadar Starsong in Nighthaven
Omen can be summoned at the Stormrage Barrow Dens by launching around 20 Cluster Rockets and killing his minions. He is a raid-level boss requiring large numbers of players to defeat him.
After killing the boss, you need to stand on his corpse for several seconds to receive the Elune's Blessing buff. However, receiving the credit for the quest can be somewhat tricky at times and might require repeatedly cancelling the buff.
Once your quest log states that it's completed, simply return to Valadar Stormwing to turn it in.
It isn't even necessary to tag Omen yourself; if he's already dead when you get there, stand on his corpse and unless he decays while you're there, you can receive the blessing and fulfill the quest.
Elders: Collecting Coins of Ancestry
The main activity of the Lunar Festival is visiting Elders in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Each Elder has a quest that will reward one
先祖硬币
and 50 Horde or Alliance reputation. You may only visit each Elder once per Lunar Festival.
A couple of hours after visiting an Elder, you will also receive a
红包
in your mail. This can contain one of two items: a
幸运烟花束
or
长者的月亮石
.
Elders are found in a circle of light, with a yellow over their heads. They appear as ghostly Tauren, Dwarves or Night Elves wearing Festive Dresses or Festive Pant Suits.
Elders in the major cities are located in the Lunar Festival areas, near the Lunar Harbingers, which makes them easy to find.
Elders are neutral to all visitors, so both Horde and Alliance may visit any of them. While you can visit and obtain a coin from any Elder in the open world at level 1, keep in mind that many of these areas will be dangerous for lower-level characters.
There are 24 Elders in Kalimdor, 20 in Eastern Kingdoms, and 6 within Dungeons.

Elders of the Dungeons
Elder Splitrock - Maraudon, in Zaetar's Grave
Elder Farwhisper - Stratholme, in Festival Lane

Elder Starsong - Sunken Temple, in Pit of Sacrifice

I believe that's all of the Elders that can be found in dungeons in WoW Classic.

You can do these quests more than once to get copies of all recipes when multiple choices are given.
All recipes are Bind on Pickup.
This is not correct. At least the tailoring recipes are not BoP.
But great guide, thank you for it. :)
One advice for the eldar in orgrimmar as alliance: after getting the coin try to reach ragefire. From there you can port out without being troubled by horde. I managed to get in and out without dying as a mage. :)
Same to horde: after talking to the eldar in stormwind try to reach the stockade to port out uninterrupted.

Wrong info that you dont have to tag Omen for the buff. I just received Elunes Blessing buff after a raid I was watching killed him, but I can't complete the quest. So yes, you do have to have him tagged to complete it.

Horde stealthers, particularly rogues, should have no trouble getting to the elders in Ironforge, Stormwind and Darnassus. You just have to be really careful. Obviously it also helps to be higher level, and being Subtlety trained does not hurt, either. This method may also work for non-stealthers using invisibility potions, though I have not personally tried it.
Here is how I did it:
Ironforge
Between Ironforge and Stormwind, I would do Ironforge first. Its front gate tends to be a bit less crowded than Stormwind's in my experience.
1. Head up the ramp to the Ironforge front gates. There will likely be at least one level 55 non-elite patrolling the ramp, but these are easily avoided by hugging the side of the road. There will be level 55 non-elite guards on either side of the entrance. Head straight down the middle between these two, then hug the wall once you are out of range.
2. Turn left once inside, still hugging the wall. This part is tricky because there will be more of those guards pathing by, and you may not see them rounding the corner. Also, any nearby Spy addon users will now be alerted to your presence. Once inside Ironforge, drop down into the lava pit. You won't die, and if there are ever patrols down there I have not seen one. Head up through the Commons toward The Mystic Ward, where you will find Elder Bronzebeard.
3. Once you reach Bronzebeard, survey the surroundings and make sure there are no guards or players around. Once the coast is clear, quickly click on Bronzebeard, get your coin and then Vanish. If you aggroed a guard while doing this, this will save you. If you're not a rogue, you may die here, but you can repeat the above steps once you rez (minus the part about talking to Bronzebeard, of course). Just rez up out of guard agro range and re-stealth.
4. Make your way clockwise through Mystic Ward, around through Forlorn Cavern and Hall of Explorers until you hit Tinker Town. Here you will turn left and head toward Deeprun Tram.
5. Enter the portal for the Tram. You should still be stealthed once you cross through. The good thing about going this way, besides the time saved, is that very few players use it, and those who do are typically very low level. They can raise the alarm, but they can't kill you. Just avoid them, hop on the tram and head to Stormwind.
Stormwind
This one is a bit trickier. They building layout is much tighter than Ironforge, so there are not many wide-open spaces where you can travel with ease and avoid wandering guards. It is also easy to get caught in a long alleyway with a pathing guard heading your way. If you run into one, go back the other way and step to the side and let him/her walk by. If you have MoD and Camouflage trained up, you can
probably
still get by, but imo it is not really worth the risk.
1. When you exit the tram you will find yourself in the Dwarven District. From there, head SW toward Cathedral Square, again making sure to avoid patrols. Once you are through the Cathedral area, continue SW toward The Park.
2. Turn right and you will have a bit of open area here to move around in. Once you round the corner to the north, you will see Hammershout standing in the open.
3. Carefully approach Hammershout from behind. You will want to stay stealthed until the last possible moment, because there are 2-3 guards stationed within agro range of him. They will attack you as soon as you de-stealth, but you should still have ample time to grab the coin. If you are a rogue, you can Vanish and head back the way you came and these will de-agro. If you do not, you will probably die, but who cares? You have your coin!
4. From here you can suicide or, for an additional challenge, try to make it out of the front gate toward Goldshire and the next Elder (Stormbrow). As you get closer to Stormwind's front gate you will encounter lots and lots of players and guards, including the nasty level 60 elites (more on these below). Honestly, whether or not you make it out alive will depend a lot on pure luck, but it is doable. (Alternately, you can port out via Stockades as mentioned below.)
Darnassus
This one is pretty straightforward, and is the easiest of the three due to the low population of that city relative to the other two. (Ironically enough, it is the only one where I died, though.)
1. Head to Auberdine in Darkshore. Stealth past everything and onto the docks, sticking to the middle when there are guards on each side of you, and to the edge to avoid pathing guards.
2. You will board the boat which docks on the right-hand side as you are facing away from town. It will probably be empty.
3. Remain stealthed and ride the boat to Rut'theran Village.
4. Disembark and head up the hill to the village. There will be revelers along the docks but they will not agro you unless you attack them (don't, obviously). Jump into the portal (reddish area beneath a tree, you can't miss it) and jump through to port up to Darnassus.
5. When I did this, there were no guards near either of the two Elders in this area. The biggest danger here is the aforementioned level 60 elite guards who path around the area. They seemingly ignore stealth; I had one run right up to me and bash my head in before I knew what hit me. Luckily, when you rez you will still be in Darnassus, so you will not be forced to take the boat back from the mainland to try again. If you do die in the city itself, spirit res and head from the graveyard over to the second Elder at Dolanaar. There likely will not be much around to bother you.
Congrats! You now have your coins!
(Caveats: The usual...higher level players will be more likely to succeed than lower-level players, and if your main spec does not boost stealth you will need to be extra careful not to agro guards.)

It is a bit less than obvious, but the Lunar Festival Invitation works in both directions. The area where you appear when you use it to teleport into Moonglade has a Greater Moonlight beam for each capital city, Alliance and Horde. You can tell which is which by the Revelers partying around them. Once the cooldown on your Lunar Festival Invitation resets, you can stand in one of these and use the Invitation to teleport back to one of your faction's capital cities. You can't use it to teleport to the other faction's cities, though.

I was surprised of how easier it is for Alliance on PvE-server to obtain all 50
先祖硬币
than it is for Horde, and all due to how fortified Ironforge and Stormwind are compared to the horde capitals. On this lvl 60 character I spoke with all elders.
Undercity?
Surprisingly not a single guard on my way in. Straight in, and left doorway. Not a single Horde bothered by my presence.
Freewind Post?
Heavily guarded. From what I observed from the top of the lift, I would be beaten to death as soon as I stepped forward. Big was the surprise when the Horde guards didn't cared about my presence at all. I must only assume that the Freewind guards are set to tolerate non-aggressive Alliance players during the Lunar festival.

Use the northern/back yard lifts. When up, dodge/avoid guards while heading eastwards over the bridge to the eastern 'isle'.

Western entrance. Plenty of guards to dodge on my way eastwards, but still miraculously none managed to knock me of my mount until I got past The Valley of Strength. Using the same strategy as in Thunder Bluff, and I obtained my fifth coin before being gangraped by

I really must applaud the Horde's sense of fairness and understanding of my errand.
Back home to Ironforge, and an unfortunate Horde is detected. Immediate gankfest, while I do my best to tell eveyone to let Hordes coming for their

And to all ganked coin-collecting Horde players: I sincerely apologise for my fellow Alliance-players premature behaviour.

It is February 10th and the event is still active. I'm guessing it will be gone after the February 11th maintenance reset.

Is the date the same in 2021?

So the Tom Tom cords above are good but in alphabetical order and an awful route to take.
So I've reordered them by zone, which will take less time to travel (I think) starting from Darkshore.
or you could start from Teldrasil and finish in Winterspring, its up to you.
/way Darkshore 36, 46
/way Ashenvale 36, 49
/way Felwood 38, 53
/way Azshara 72, 85
/way Durotar 53, 44
/way The Barrens 62, 36
/way The Barrens 51, 30
/way The Barrens 45, 57
/way Feralas 77, 38
/way Feralas 62, 31
/way Mulgore 48, 53
Fly down to
/way Silithus 49, 38
/way Silithus 23, 11
/way Un'goro Crater 50, 76
/way Tanaris 51, 28
/way Tanaris 37, 79
/way Thousand Needles 45, 50
/way Thousand Needles 79, 77
Walk back to Tanaris and fly up to
/way Winterspring 61, 37
/way Winterspring 55, 43
/way Darnassus 33, 14
/way Teldrassil 57, 60
/way Orgrimmar 41, 33
/way Thunder Bluff 73, 23
I've had time to do the others now and I think this is a better route also:
/way Eastern Plaguelands 81, 60
/way Eastern Plaguelands 39, 75
/way Western Plaguelands 65, 47
/way Western Plaguelands 69, 73

Fly from Southshorem point to
/way The Hinterlands 50, 48
/way Ironforge 29, 16
/way Dun Morogh 46, 51
Back to IF and fly to
/way Loch Modan 33, 46

Think it's then quicker to run through Blackrock to:s
/way Burning Steppes 64, 23
/way Burning Steppes 82, 47

/way Elwynn Forest 40, 64

something interesting i found: i half completed the elders last year, and i talked with the remaining elders this year.
now, i found that all the elders offer a quest again -- same with the Lunar Festival Herald and Harbinger.
i continued the breadcrumb to Valadar Starsong and i get money for completing the quest.
logged in a lv5 alt where i only talked to 5 elders + did the moonglade breadcrumb, and those quests are available again.
it looks like my quest completion status got reset for all of the lunar festival related-quests, somehow.

Regarding the ending of these in-game holiday events I just want to say that the dates that the Blizz developers are giving are IMHO inaccurate. As I have already remarked in a thread concerning "Love Is In The Air," I think most everyone will usually understand that the "last day" of something is the last day you can participate in or buy something, usually ending at midnight of that day. My argument is that when Blizz says a holiday event ends, that is not true. It is actually the day before the end date they set. That will be the day that we all better get our event quests completed and turned in for our event rewards. Because the very next day in the wee hours of that morning, whichever server you have your tunes on, the event and all the holiday quest givers and conditions will vanish. I am sure there are quite a few more people besides myself who get stuck with event items, soul bound or not, that we have to lug around or store in the bank for another year. I am not saying Blizz is lying about the dates. What I
am
saying is that the Blizz Devs' understanding and what most other people's understanding (including my own) are on two different sides of the ballpark entirely. Clarification on their part at exactly what time of the "end day" events actually stop is in order.
So, final point being: as far as the Lunar Festival is concerned, we all better get our LF quests done and turned in on the 18th (2 whole days from this writing) before 12:00 AM, whichever time zone we are in, because the very next day those babies are GONE! Unless, of course, you want to be stuck with LF event items for an entire year.

Wanted to dispel some misinformation in this guide regarding the travel use of the Lunar Festival Invitation as a means of traveling between Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. This information is mostly specific to
HARDCORE CLASSIC
(as it doesn't matter as much if you die in other versions of WoW) and is an Alliance POV. I have not tried everything on Horde side yet.
While you can use the Lunar Festival Invitation on a fresh level 1 character (it's perfectly safe), ONLY NIGHT ELVES get the Auberdine and Teldrassil flight paths by default in order to get back to Darnassus. Humans and Dwarves DO NOT automatically have access to Darkshore or Darnassus automatically, making Moonglade the only FP available until they are either ported, summoned, or swim to Menethil Harbor from Westfall in order to get the Darnassus/Auberdine flight paths.
Free flight points to Teldrassil from Moonglade are ONLY available to Druids (this has always been the case). For all other classes, it will cost 8s to fly to Darkshore/Darnassus.
Fresh Night Elves can only get as far as Menethil Harbor, Wetlands as far as getting to Eastern Kingdoms, requiring a 30 minute swim to Westfall, getting ported by a Mage, or summoned by a Warlock to get to IF or SW. Running the road to IF from Menethil is not recommended in Hardcore without a lvl 25+ friend to escort you.
Standing next to an Elder in their Moonlight does not activate the Lunar Festival Invitation teleportation. The error message you get is "Requires Greater Moonlight", which are only available in capital cities.
Going back to the Greater Moonlight to use the Lunar Festival Invitation again, in hopes to get back to your capital city without using your hearthstone, does NOT work. It merely teleports you to the Moonglade entry point again.
Talking to the Alliance Flight Master Sindrayl in Moonglade on a brand new Level 2 character without any Kalimdor flight paths yet produces the error message " You don't know any flight locations connected to this one".
The "misinformation" I am pointing out in the guide here is
under the subtitle "A few interesting uses of the Lunar Festival Invitation"
, the last bullet point:
Even with the 10-minute cooldown, it can be the quickest way to move between the three capital cities of your faction. It's particularly great for safely moving fresh night elf characters from Kalimdor to the Eastern Kingdoms.
Having played WoW since 2008, I have known about these limitations
for years
. It is a bit more challenging on Hardcore WoW than it is on any other version of WoW.
But after asking in LFG chat last night for a port or summon from SW to Darn on a level 12 Human Mage, I had at least 5 people respond in LFG chat to "just use the TP inv" or "just talk to the FP for a free flight", and 3 more people whispered the same telling me to go to Wowhead to look it up. Apparently this guide has given the wrong impression to HARDCORE players that you can get a
free
flight from Moonglade
on ANY class
, given you already HAVE the flight points. I also purposely made a level 1 Human this morning to confirm/prove the travel limitations and error messages received.

Any chance we can get the lists of elders updated to show a map preview with pins rather than just coords? I don't have a working coord addon in Season of Discovery.
