Welcome to Wowhead's guide to Burning Crusade Classic
制皮
! Leatherworking is one of three professions focused on creating armor, in this case, for Leather and Mail classes. Specializations in Burning Crusade Classic will focus on epic-quality items only those with the specialization may wear. In addition, there are a number of other items Leatherworkers can make, including Drums, which can provide a temporary buff to your entire party.
This guide will show you how to get started in TBC Leatherworking, including best paired professions, races and classes, differences between the current retail expansion and TBC, finding profession trainers, and the basics of crafting items in Leatherworking.
What is Burning Crusade Classic Leatherworking?
Leatherworking in The Burning Crusade bears a great deal of resemblance to Leatherworking in Classic, although there are a few key differences. The primary focus of Leatherworking is to create armor pieces for classes that wear Leather (Druid, Rogue) and Mail (Hunter, Shaman), as well as permanent armor enhancements through Armor Kits, Glove Reinforcements, and Leg Armor, profession bags, and a few extra goodies such as the
马鞭
and the new Drums to buff your entire party:
战争之鼓
and
速度之鼓
.
Leatherworkers can also further specialize into one of three armor types at level 40 and 225 skill:
is considered best for Leather Agility users
is best for Mail users.
is good for Agility Intellect users.
Leatherworking specializations have the following changes in TBC:
In TBC, leatherworking specializations provide recipes to make powerful items that only the specialist can wear.
Specialization requirements for Classic-era recipes have been removed and can be learned by any leatherworker.
Hides, a usual ingredient for Classic leatherworking recipes, disappeared in TBC.
Leatherworking specializations may now be changed:
Go to old specialization NPC and pay to unlearn your old specialization.
Travel to Tanaris to consult the book
如何安抚僵尸
, located in Steamwheedle Port at /way 65, 18. It's on a table in a hut near Narain Soothfancy.
Learn the new specialization from the correct specialization NPC for the one you want to learn instead.
Best Professions to Pair with Leatherworking
The natural pairing with Leatherworking is
剥皮
, since nearly all the raw materials you will need come from this profession.
If you wish to have a second Manufacturing profession instead, because you have other characters who skin or you have money to purchase raw materials, consider
附魔
or
工程学
.
With
附魔
, you can Disenchant the armor pieces you make for raw materials, as well as any quest or loot drops you don't want.
工程学
is useful because many of the upper level recipes in Outlands require many elemental Primals, such as
源生空气
. Engineers can create and use the
气阀微粒提取器
to extract Primal motes from clouds in Zangarmarsh, Nagrand, Netherstorm, and Shadowmoon Valley, giving them a leg up on acquiring these sought-after reagents.
Best Races and Classes to Learn Leatherworking
There are no racials that greatly improve either Leatherworking or Skinning, so you wouldn't choose a race based on this. Trolls do get the racial ability
Differences in Leatherworking Between Retail and Burning Crusade Classic
Leatherworking specializations were removed in Cataclysm, so these do not apply to Retail at all.
While Armor Kits have made a return to Shadowlands, the permanent Glove Reinforcements and Leg Armor available in TBC did not.
In Retail, Scales were removed from Mail recipes and replaced with bones. In TBC, mail recipes require Scales as well as leather.
TBC is the last expansion where creating Mail armor is split between Leatherworkers and Blacksmithing. From WoTLK onward, only Leatherworkers create mail.
In Retail, Leatherworking is used to create bows and fist weapons. In TBC, there are no weapon recipes in Leatherworking.

Reputations for Leatherworking in Burning Crusade Classic
There are several reputations in The Burning Crusade which offer Leatherworking patterns. Unfortunately, Leatherworkers have a hefty load of patterns they can only get through reputation grinding. The following is a list of all reputations that offer Leatherworking patterns, how many recipes they offer, and what max reputation level you need to acquire them all. For a list of reputation-related recipes, please consult the Leatherworking Patterns guide.

Should Leatherworkers Choose Aldor or Scryer?
The decision here isn't clear cut for Leatherworkers based on recipes alone. The Scryers offer armor based on Arcane Resistance, and the Aldor offer armor patterns based on Fire Resistance. If you can't decide on other criteria, such as shoulder enchants, you may wish to choose whichever you think will give you the most utility.
Note:
You don't actually have to declare for either, but it will limit some options and flight points later on. You can also switch sides through a long, grindy process and get all the recipes.
Burning Crusade Classic Reputations Overview
How to Craft Leatherworking Items
Leatherworking in TBC requires no special tools and doesn't tie you to a particular place, making it more convenient than Blacksmithing in that regard. If you are a Skinner, you will need some variety of
剥皮小刀
in your inventory, but that's it for special tools.
The only vendor-purchased item you will need regularly is
符文线
. In TBC, as well as Classic, this only stacks to 20 and there is no such thing as a Reagent bank yet. Fortunately, this is widely sold by all kinds of tradeskill vendors.
Beyond this, there are many farmed ingredients you will need to make Leatherworking items. Lists of farmed ingredients in the Leatherworking Patterns guide. Several Leatherworking patterns are trainer-learned, but you will also find patterns from drops, reputation vendors, and other sources across Outlands.

I tested changing LW specialisation on the Beta. The first step listed here is correct, but after visiting your specialisation trainer to unlearn your current spec (for a gold fee), you need to use the "Soothsaying for Dummies" book in Tanaris at Narain Soothfancys hut north of Steamwheedle port. This will instantly teach you your new specialisation. No need to visit your new specialisation trainer.

a list of what patterns each specialization provides would be very helpful, i am trying to decide now which specialization to get while prepping for tbc and it would help me quite a bit to know what they provide.

Saying that Dragonscale is best for mail wearers is a bit misleading, considering that the Primalstrike set from Elemental is BiS for hunters.
