Rotation
The

correctly between auto-attacks. It is rather simple but also rather easy to screw up. Slower ranged weapons are always ideal to avoid clipping as many auto-attacks. For example, if you start casting an Aimed shot 2 seconds before your auto attack it would do what is known as "clipping" the auto shot. Meaning while your auto shot was supposed to go off, you were too busy casting aimed shot and it clipped, did no damage and will restart the auto shot charge timer. Multi-shot also has a small cast time that can clip your auto shot, so be careful with that too. The more auto shots you clip, the lower your DPS will be. So timing is essential for maximum DPS as a

, you can watch or listen to your character and as soon as you see or hear that arrow leave the bow you can cast your aimed or multi-shot. There are also swing-timer add-ons which will show you when your next shot will be. Below will be provided both a rotation that avoids clipping which is much better for slower weapons with over a 3-second swing timer and a rotation for faster weapons with under a 3-second swing timer.

Open Spot and Melee Weaving
An Open Spot is the few seconds window in your rotation between weapon swings and skills where at Ranged you will have nothing to do. During this time you can either

quickly than run back out before your Aimed Shot is off CD or Auto Shot is ready to fire out. Doing this will also give you a melee swing as the ranged and melee swings are on different cool-downs. If you are going to be doing this, be aware of the Melee mechanics.
Serpent Sting in Season of Mastery
One of the big changes in Season of Mastery has been the removal of the debuff limit. This now allows for the use of

on all trash mobs and bosses in raids. There are specific timings in rotations that you can fit this in, namely in the indicated Open Spots mentioned above in the rotations. While this isn't a game changing dps increase for Hunters, any small amount does help.

Learning Hunter Spells and Hunter Spell Ranks
Instead of having abilities passively grow in power as your character levels up, in Classic WoW each ability is split out into many ranks. That means that most Hunter abilities will require you to visit a Hunter Trainer in order to learn higher ranks as you level up. Some abilities even have special ranks, only learnable via special tomes found around the world.
As you level to 60 in Classic WoW, new abilities will unlock every two levels. In order to train them, you must visit a
Hunter Class Trainer
, usually located in a major city. In this rotation guide, when talking about abilities, it is usually implied that we’re talking about the max rank unless stated otherwise.

Aspects
Hunters have several aspects that act as personal or group buffs. You can only have 1 active aspect at a time, and they last until canceled. You will find a list of these and their uses below:

: The hunter takes on the aspects of a beast, becoming untrackable. This aspect generally has no usage. You might use it in instanced or world PvP to avoid other

s tracking you on the minimap, but apart from that, you won't use it much.
猎豹守护
: The hunter takes on the aspects of a cheetah, increasing movement speed by 30%. If the hunter takes damage, they will be dazed for 4 sec. You will use this aspect quite often, especially while leveling. It's handy because it can be used indoors too. Remember to switch this aspect off in combat, so you don't get dazed!
豹群守护
: The hunter and group members within 30 yards take on the aspects of a pack of cheetahs, increasing movement speed by 30%. If a pack member takes damage, they will be dazed for 4 sec. This is the same as Aspect of the Cheetah, but it will affect party members, also dazing them if struck in combat. Some

s forget to turn this off and it
really
annoys group members when they are dazed. So try to remember when you turn it on, it has to come back off before combat starts!

: The hunter takes on the aspects of a hawk, increasing Ranged Attack Power. This will be your primary DPS aspect; any time you are in a fight, this should be active immediately.
灵猴守护
: The hunter takes on the aspects of a monkey, increasing the chance to dodge by 8%. This aspect is great to use defensively if you have some melee players or mobs on you and you know you might take a few hits. Switching to this and potentially dodging some damage could be the difference to you surviving long enough to kite away and win a battle.
野性守护
: The hunter and group members within 30 yards take on the aspect of the wild, increasing Nature resistance. This will be used on several fights to help your group members with certain NR soft caps, apart from that you won't find much use in this aspect.
Offensive Skills
瞄准射击
: Aimed shot has a 3-second cast and is your hardest hitting ability, it is from the MM tree and pretty much every spec till take this. You will be using this spell as often as you can without clipping your auto shots.

: This is your auto attack ability that will trigger every few seconds depending on your weapon speed.
奥术射击
: This ability fires an instant shot that does arcane damage. It shares a cooldown with Aimed Shot meaning you won't use it much in your end game rotation. It is mainly used to tag mobs or while leveling. Sometimes it will be useful against mobs with high armor or physical damage reductions too.
多重射击
: Fires several missiles, hitting 3 targets for additional damage. This will be used in both your single and multi-target rotation in between your auto attacks.

: Stings the target, causing Nature damage over 15 sec. With the removal of the debuff limit in Season of Mastery you can now use Serpent Sting at will.

: Counterattack the enemy, dealing damage. Can only be performed after you dodge. This is a good spell to use if you are stuck in melee being attacked by something and you dodge. It goes hand in hand with
灵猴守护

猛禽一击
: Almost the same as
猫鼬撕咬
but without the requirement to dodge. You will mainly use this when you are stuck in melee range.
乱射
: Continuously fires a volley of ammo at the target area, causing Arcane damage to enemy targets within 8 yards every second for 6 sec. A good AoE for large pulls with a decent cooldown and a high mana cost.
Defensive Abilities
假死
: Feign death which may trick enemies into ignoring you. Lasts up to 6 minutes. This spell can be used defensively to drop aggro, or as a utility to swap trinkets or place traps. It will also make enemy players drop you as a target, giving you a second to jump away as they try to re-target you.
威慑
: When activated, increases your Dodge and Parry chance by 25% for 10 seconds. You have to get this as a talent in survival. Fortunately, it is only a few rows in. Can be useful if your Feign Death is down or paired with Aspect of the Monkey, you will have 33% dodge, and with improved Aspect of the Monkey 38%.
Utility Abilities
扰乱射击
: Distract the target, causing threat. This will taunt the target to attack you and can be used to kite mobs around when required for certain instances. It can also be used to save players that pull aggro, potentially giving a tank time to pull aggro of the mob as it runs to you.
宁神射击
: Attempts to remove 1 Frenzy effect from an enemy creature. Vital to defeat some bosses that have mechanics that put them into a frenzy such as

in MC.

: Increases the attack power of party members within 45 yards by 50. Lasts 30 minutes.
驱散射击
: A short-range shot that deals 50% weapon damage and disorients the target for 4 sec. Any damage caused will remove the effect. Turns off your attack when used. Good to use before Feign Death to keep a target in place to secure a trap on them, especially in PvP.
毒蝎钉刺
: Stings the target, reducing Strength and Agility for 20 sec. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on any one target. Generally, you won't be able to use this in PvE but it can be useful when fighting melee in PvP and also mobs that may be hitting your pet a little too hard while in the world.

: Stings the target, draining mana over 8 sec. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on any one target. This will drain a portion of the enemies mana over time and is good in PvE in

and in PvP versus casters, especially healers.
翼龙钉刺
: This stings the target to sleep, and when they are awoken, it will apply a DoT that does fairly weak damage. It is also the dead last talent of your survival tree so you won't even have it. Don't use this spell for PvE or PvP it is awful.

: Places the Hunter's Mark on the target, increasing the Ranged Attack Power of all attackers against that target by 110. Also, the target of this ability can always be seen by the hunter, whether it stealths or turns invisible. This spell is very good to use in any situation to increase yours and other

's damage. Also very useful to stop fleeing a

as you will be able to see them in Stealth if this is applied to them.

: Will cause a beast to run in fear for up to 20 seconds. Can be useful in some instances to help CC or just out in the world if you have pulled 1 to many beasts. You can also use this on

when they are in any of their forms (except moonkin, which no one plays anyway) as they count as a beast.

: Inflicts a small amount of damage and reduces the enemy target's movement speed by 60% for 10 seconds. A handy melee slow that you can use to help you get some range on targets close by.
震荡射击
: Dazes the target, slowing movement speed by 50% for 4 sec. A ranged slow that can be used to kite players or mobs.
照明弹
: Exposes all hidden and invisible enemies within 10 yards of the targeted area for 30 seconds, very useful to find or protect yourself against sneaky

: Feign death which may trick enemies into ignoring you. Lasts up to 6 min. Very useful for dropping aggro and even combat, allowing you to swap trinkets and place traps.
逃脱
: Attempts to disengage from the target, reducing threat. Unlike BFA Disengage, this will not propel you backward. You have to be in melee range, and it just reduces your threat. This can be useful if you are trying to swap aggro back to your pet in world PvE and in instances if your Feign Death is on CD or was resisted.
野兽之眼
: Take direct control of your pet and see through its eyes for 1 minute. This allows you to move your pet off edges it may not jump down, preventing it from pulling mobs on its way down. You can also use it for fun in PvP. Overall, it doesn't have a lot of usages but a fun spell none the less.
野兽知识
: Gather information about the target beast. The tooltip will display damage, health, armor, any special resistances, and diet.
鹰眼术
: Zooms in the hunter's vision. Only usable outdoors. Lasts 1 minute. This will let you target an area and place an obscure beam there that acts as an anchor you can look around. This is useful for scouting mobs in dungeons and the world as well as players in BG's and the world.
冰冻陷阱
: Place a frost trap that freezes the first enemy that approaches, preventing all action for up to 20 seconds. Any damage caused will break the ice. Trap will exist for 1 minute. Traps can only be placed when out of combat. Only one trap can be active at a time. If for any reason your group needs the extra CC you can run up to a mob in combat and Feign Death on it, removing you from combat then Freezing trap it. You will use this ability in PvP a lot, CCing enemies allowing you to get max range and cast an Aimed Shot or get a bandage off.

: Place a fire trap that will burn the first enemy to approach with Fire damage over 15 sec. Doesn't do a lot of damage for the effort of setting it up and you will most likely place down a different trap with your Feign Death combo. For instance, in PvP, it would be better to freeze a target, get max range and then cast an Aimed Shot/auto attack which would secure you more damage instantly and have you at a comfortable distance.
爆炸陷阱
: Place a fire trap that explodes when an enemy approaches, causing 201 to 257 Fire damage and 330 additional Fire damage over 20 sec to all within 10 yards. Unfortunately running into melee, using Feign Death and dropping this trap is a DPS loss compared to just using Multi-Shot or Volley if need be and auto attacking. It is useful if you can position it right in a spot the mobs will run over during combat though, you will find more use of this spell in the open world than in instances.

: Place a frost trap that creates an ice slick around itself for 30 sec when the first enemy approaches it. All enemies within 10 yards will be slowed by 30% while in the area of effect. This trap is really useful in some of the PvE encounters where you or other players will be kiting mobs. It can also be used in PvP in some situations like slowing a team at a choke point in AV or WSG.

Pet Utility
召唤宠物
: Summons your pet to you.
解散野兽
: Dismiss your pet. Dismissing your pet will reduce its happiness by 50.
喂养宠物
: Feed your pet the selected item. Feeding your pet increases happiness. Using food close to the pet's level will have a better result. Always try to keep your pet at Happy, this is the green smiley face icon, and it means your pet will do 125% of normal damage.
复活宠物
: It happens to the best of us! Revive your pet, returning it to life with 15% of its health. If you are having trouble keeping your pet alive, perhaps opt to have it stand back in some fights or go for some more defensive talent points for it.
驯服野兽
: This will channel for 20 seconds, attempting to tame a wild beast. You can't have a current pet while doing this and you can't lose aggro of the beast you are trying to tame.
治疗宠物
: Puts a heal over time effect on your pet as you channel.
训练野兽
: Provides skills that you can train to your pets.
Cooldowns
狂野怒火
: Send your pet into a rage causing 50% additional damage for 18 sec. While enraged, the beast does not feel pity or remorse or fear, and it cannot be stopped unless killed. An excellent cooldown while using a deep BM spec. Will allow your pet to burst while being immune to CC.
急速射击
: Increases ranged attack speed by 40% for 15 seconds with a 5 minute cool down. Figure out when it is best to use this on each fight to get your optimal burst.
Debuffs in Classic WoW
Be mindful when using Hunter spells that apply debuffs on enemies that they may only have 16 debuffs on them at a time, including raid bosses. With this limitation, usually large raid groups will assign specific players to apply certain debuffs, while others refrain from using them. You will generally want to use a 3.45+ speed ranged weapon so that you can get your 3-second cast Aimed Shots off in between each auto shot.
There are no ranged weapons in the game over 3.4 speed. There are no bows slower than 2.9, and no guns slower than 3.0. And that's before you consider that you should have a 15% ranged attack speed bonus from your quiver.
Your Aimed shot will almost always clip at least one auto-shot. The key is to time it so you begin casting straight after an Auto-Shot, so it only clips 1. This is also the reason to prefer slower, a faster weapon will clip 2 or more.
In some situations you will inevitably clip more than 1, for example during Improved Aspect of the Hawk procs, or Rapid Fire - or both combined. Troll Berserking reduces Aimed Shot's cast time, so it shouldn't increase clipping on its own however.
Your best bet to minimise clipping is to use a shot/swing timer addon as animations are not as reliable - and in some raiding situations you'll be barely able to see your character.

For PvE rotations. There is nothing mentioning melee dives between auto shots
You may want to read up on

while there is a lot of general stuff in it. It covers the melee dive system adequately.
TL;DR version.
You can cover the deadzone distance and be back at firing range without delaying auto shots even while rapid fire&quick shots are up. That is obviously going with the typical raid weapons (lhok, ash'jrethul/larva, nerubian)
The 4:3 rotation without AiS is also missing
TL;DR version for it.
No AiS instead goes full ham on melee dives for 2 raptor 1 melee for every 4 auto shots then stays on range due to melee and ranged swingtimers overlapping otherwise. Tryhard version is to dip into spell power elixirs to bolster the arcane shot spam
pros: no auto shot clipping, more procs from T2 and T3 due to the additional arcane shots on cd
con: extremely mana hungry for horde. Trivial for alliance as long as wisdom is judged.

Author is very biased. And certainly has no idea how to use Wivern Sting. And therefore gives distorted conclusions.
First of all, it actually does very good damage. Much more than basic Serpent Sting. It's a perfect way to burst enemy, especially in PvP.
Second of all, its perfect tool to deal with 2 or 3 targets, where you CC on of them and automatically apply strong DoT afterwards. Very versatile in open world and dungeons.
Third of all, it applies sleep effect. And there are really not many spells that can counter this specific type of effect (tremor/forsaken racial)
Fourth of all, cheap spell and also the most effective one in terms of used mana/dealt damage (just like shamans Lightning Shield)
And yes, you are wrong, there is decent amount of moonkins. Nevertheless that comment was needless.
