Welcome to Wowhead's Feral Druid Arena PvP Guide, up to date for 9.2! In this section of the guide, we cover effective strategies for Feral Druids in PvP, including defensive strategies, positioning, and some common mistakes that Feral Druids make (so that you can avoid making them yourself). Strategy is crucial for winning arenas, so knowing how to use your utility will prove useful. We also cover ideal rotations for Feral Druids in PvP. Although PvP isn't necessarily rotation-based, it is useful to know how to output as much damage as you can (when it is possible to do so).

Effective Strategies for Feral Druids in 9.2 PvP
Positioning
As a Feral Druid (and as any melee, really), you want to make sure you are in your healer's line of sight as often as possible. Using your mobility and DoT pressure is important when the other team is hiding behind their pillar and attempting to lure you into a vulnerable position. Use
急奔
to quickly run behind line of sight to apply bleeds and then quickly zoom out. You never want to be stuck behind the enemy's pillar stunned in

- that's how you die. Always try to anticipate incoming stuns, and use

accordingly. Also, in case you get stunned, being somewhere in light of sight of your healer is very crucial.
Running and bleeding is very effective as Feral. If you are playing an all-in composition like Jungle Cleave or Kitty Cleave, your healer will either stay far back and heal you or run into the team with you, depending on which composition you're playing. Be aware of how your healer will play. Also be aware that you're very squishy in

Defensive Play
Defensive play as Feral involves either running away and kiting, abusing
熊形态
, or applying bleeds and running out of line of sight. If your healer is crowd controlled, Ferals will always die in stuns if not in
熊形态
or using a heavy defensive cooldown. Making sure to predict a

and pre-entering

will keep you alive through these setups. If you get caught in

too many times, you will most likely die. Always be aware of how your enemies are playing. If you don't have Gladiator's Medallion available, make sure you're ready to either enter

also emphasizes this hit and run gameplay. As a Feral you must know when to use your healing abilities on yourself, and your teammates. You can really keep yourself and your teammates alive with

so be adamant about healing, it can really prolong a game to your advantage.

can also be your best friend. If you are in a situation where you have to peel enemy targets off you or your partners,

is an undispellable crowd control which can be useful in those scenarios. If you are Night Fae you can use

to kite away as well.

is your strongest self-heal in

so make sure you use this ability at the right times, and you will survive most situations.
If you are
Necrolord
you are strong defensively, and the effort to play well defensively goes down. This is simply because of these types of spells available to you,

provides you an insane absorb shield that is based on your maximum health and Versatility. A nice trick you can do is in the opening gates of arena you can use

If you are a covenant such as Kyrian or Night Fae, defensive play gets harder because you don't have passives and shields to help you out. So in this case, utilizing your mobility, and awareness of your enemies strategy is the really the most effective way to being able to survive properly as a Feral Druid. Night Fae's

makes it a lot easier to kite away, because of the instant blink you get. Kyrian does not have that type of mobility so you have to rely on traditional abilities and tactics such as

and shifting to move around.
Playing Against Melee
The best tool against melee is always

. Melee, for the most part, will not be able to kill you through
熊形态
if you're caught with high health.
熊形态
is your biggest tool to survive melee attackers, but try to make sure you are not in
熊形态
for the entire game (or you will not do any damage). A well-balanced mix is ideal. Coordination and synergy with your healer is extremely important for your success as a Feral Druid.
Make sure to utilize
荆棘术
against melee.
荆棘术
can be used as a strong repellent against melee when you see them pop cooldowns.
Most melee do not have a constant root breaks when compared to Druids. If you have a

proc or sometimes can hard-cast

on your enemy to keep that place while you run away. This is especially effective against melee because of the reason mentioned earlier, most melee don't have a constant root/slow/snare break like a Druid would have. Even if your enemy is dotted with bleeds, just

Playing Against Burst Classes
Playing against burst classes such as Rogue/Mage, Rogue/Hunter, Monk/Mage, or any stun setup compositions, can be brutal for Ferals. You are one of the squishiest classes in the game if you get caught in

or your regular form. You
will
die in stun burst setups. The best thing to do against Rogue/Mage, for example, is watching your healer and see if they're getting crowd controlled or not. If you see your healer getting caught in crowd control chains, you should instantly go into

. If they catch you out of form with a stun and

on your healer, you will be forced to use a cooldown. If you
熊形态
during their attack, they will most likely give up on you and not go for that kill. It's imperative to

or pre-

these burst composition setups.
Make sure to not waste your Gladiator's Medallion trinket. If you use Gladiator's Medallion for no reason or to aggressively you leave yourself as an open target, and have to be aware of this. A safe rule is to use it if you know you are going to use an important ability right after such as defensive cooldowns.
Playing Against DoT Classes
Rot compositions have usually been tough for Feral Druids to face, as Feral healing is not enough to deal with high DoT damage and

only is really good against burst damage. Line of sighting, as well as bleeding and running, is a priority outside of your strong offensive cooldowns like
狂暴
. Ferals either go all in with a cleave-like jungle, or they play very catlike - there's almost no middle ground against rot compositions. If the match runs for too long, you will die if you are not the one with the most pressure.
Defending your Team
The best way to defend your team against a melee team is with
旋风
,

, and

. This is done by warding them away with

, or stopping them from being able to attack or move away with

is, of course, very important to land against casters, and using your

defensively when needed is ideal. Also remember that in a pinch, your healing can help save your partners' lives.

can also be used to keep your teammates alive when they need extra healing especially when your healer is in crowd control. Most of the time outside of your offensive pushes you want to be supporting your team with

until you can push offensively again.
Offensive Cyclones

can be used in an offensive way; when an enemy player uses a defensive cooldown such as

,

, and many other cooldowns that are hard to damage through, a

on them can be useful. As when these defensive cooldowns are used it also prompts the enemy team to start their offensive push. You get these cooldowns because of your offensive push so pausing the game with a
旋风
stops them from offensively playing while it keeps you in the fight! The same principle with
旋风
can be applied when an enemy player is at low health! If the enemy player is at low Health and you either don’t have damage or crowd control for the healer, cloning your target at low health again puts a lot of pressure on the enemy team while ensuring your pressure on them!
Rotation and Abilities in 9.2
NOTE: If

is mentioned here, assume you are playing the talent

which allows you to Moonfire in Cat Form.
The Feral Druid PvP rotation can seem fairly complex at first. The basic thing to know is to keep up
斜掠
and
割裂
.
割裂
MUST always be kept up using a five combo point finisher. This is very important especially with the change to
剑齿利刃
. You are unable to just keep max uptime on
割裂
with
剑齿利刃

. Speaking of

this is your "bursty" finisher. You will ideally want to combo

in situations when you want to burst. Also, note that you will do more damage with

when you are 50+ Energy.
Using the

talent is essential, even with the changes to it. Since you are only able to generate one second of

per combo point on a

finisher you are unable to generate max uptime on
割裂
. This changes things a little. You still need
剑齿利刃
for the bite damage and some of the
割裂
refresh. It is simply too valuable of a talent to pass up. With that being said it is important to break old habits, and just refresh
割裂
at five combo points yourself manually.
I will be dividing damage priorities depending on the covenant you are. The focuses here are Necrolord, Kyrian, or Night Fae.
Generating Combo Points
Generating combo points is fairly straight forward.

is a talent choice that should be used over
撕碎
most of the time, simply because
野蛮挥砍
cost less Energy and does the same damage as the latter. However, there are times you should
撕碎
over
野蛮挥砍
. These times include whilst being under
狂暴
/

Do not
野蛮挥砍
a target that you want to be crowd controlled, instead use
撕碎
. These two abilities are your primary combo point generates.

also generates combo points but, you just want to
斜掠
when it is about to fall off.
If you are
月之灵
you can

while kiting to get combo points!
The Feral Druid rotation can be broken down with the talent choices of
野性狂乱
or
血腥爪击
野性狂乱
generates almost instantly five combo points for you and offers a bleed from the ability itself. This ability if used wisely can help you set up strong burst windows because you are able to generate five combo points on the spot. An effective way to use this ability is

. You can also use
野性狂乱
for other situations as well, such as

stacks are generated by using three different combo-point generating abilities. These abilities include

. Note that you can

the air without actually hitting a target and it will add to the counter for generating

. You also are able to use

if talented

to help generate stacks. The rotation with

is fairly straightforward. The benefit of this change is you will naturally generate
血腥爪击
by doing the basic Feral Druid rotation of generating combo points and keep up bleeds. The only thing to pay attention to is when you are using up the stacks. You want to line up the stacks, especially if you are gonna use one on
凶猛撕咬
during windows of burst. Always make sure to use a stack to keep up a five combo point

Above is a general guideline for Feral Druid damage, but in this part, I will be highlighting different openers, and things to note after opening.

Help set up offensive opportunities with

Don't be afraid to hold your damage cooldowns to line up with your partners damage cooldowns or CC!
In the case where your target is close to dying or you can force a major cooldown and you have no

but have 5 combo points, you can choose to

instead to force a win or cooldown!

As Night Fae I like to stagger my burst cooldowns a bit more. Having

is nice because you have two moments where you can burst. You have the first set with

and the second set with

.
There are a million ways to about doing damage. A lot of will change depending on situation in PvP (YOU WILL NOT ALWAYS HAVE 100% UPTIME). With that in mind above is a basic overview on what you need to think about when setting up damage.
Common Mistakes Feral Druids Make
Using
熊形态
too often is not a good idea, because while you are in
熊形态
, you are unable to do anything offensively. When you have to use
熊形态
, try to communicate with your healer to make sure you're safe to come out of it. Try your best to stay out of it as much as you can, but use it when you need to.
Keep your damage rotation a high priority. Feral Druids are notorious for doing a lot pressure however, when mixed in with kiting/defensive play it can be difficult to have strong damage, while also being able to survive a long time. In time, with experience this mix of styles will come together so keep practicing!
With
旋风
you may find yourself now getting into the habit of faking your enemies interrupts. This can be useful at times but know it’s not needed all the time. You don’t get punished for casting Cyclone as compared to actual casters when they get interrupted. So sometimes just getting interrupts out of the way for yourself, and teammates can be more useful than constantly faking interrupts.
Not Kiting enough is what kills inexperienced Feral Druids. Using your mobility is one of the best to survive. If you can get away and live due to strong kiting, or positioning without using any cooldowns will go a long way in the games you play.
Do not use
急奔
in the opener in stealth. If you need to open quickly, sure you can use it however, if you it is an opener where you can just run to your target without a rush save
急奔
.
急奔
is really important for mobility and it would be bad if you
急奔
in stealth when a game of arena starts and you do not open.
Playstyle and Mindset
This section is a bit subjective but will cover how Feral should be played and the general mindset you should carry in Shadowlands. In general, the playstyle involves a lot of hit and run strategies. Ferals alone do not have the raw damage to quickly take down an enemy team and rely mostly on gradually wearing down their opponents, capitalizing on enemy mistakes, and setting up crowd control chains for their partners.
Mindset
One of the best mindsets you can have in PvP is one of constant self evaluation. As a PvPer, you should always be thinking of ways to improve your gameplay. At first, this might include evaluating your DPS rotation and finding ways to more effectively deal damage. When you become more comfortable with your class, you can evaluate other parts of your PvP skillset such as crowd control and defensive cooldown usage.
Improving at PvP
One of the nice things about PvP in 2021 is that there are so many resources you can learn from. Wowhead guides and Twitch streams are free resources in which you can study strategies from some of the best players in the world. It is important that you make use of these resources as much as possible.
If you are a new player, I recommend starting out in the 2v2 bracket. This bracket is a bit slower in pace and allows you to learn how to deal optimal damage. Dueling is also a great way to learn other classes, and how your classes abilities/tools can match up against others!
This will become important in 3v3, as having more players in the arena really limits the ways that you invest brainpower. It is good to build up the muscle memory of your DPS rotation and knowledge of other classes/specs so that you can focus on more important elements of the arena.

You say that Sabretooth is "essential" however, 43/50 of the top 2v2 ferals are running Lunar Inspiration, why is it "essential" or even better than Lunar Inspiration?
