Summoning the Edge of Madness Event
The Edge of Madness is a subzone of Zul'Gurub, located just past Zanza's Rise, turning right at the crossroads there. In this area, players will find tablets talking about each of the four possible bosses, and a lit brazier. A fifth tablet is located behind the brazier - Alchemists that interact with the brazier will learn the formula for the
potion. Everyone who's an Alchemist in the raid can learn the recipe there.
To craft the
potion, you need 1
. Once the potion is made, you can trade it away or even sell it on the Auction House. When the Gurubashi Mojo Madness potion is used by the brazier in the Edge of Madness area, it will extinguish the brazier, summoning one of the Edge of Madness bosses.
Edge of Madness Abilities and Strategy
Edge of Madness bosses is on a two-week rotation - To craft each ZG set trinket, you are required to kill all four bosses and loot all four trinket items from each. If you are lucky, this will take at least 2 months of effort.
Gri'lek Abilities and Strategy
Gri'lek is the simplest of the Edge of Madness bosses. Most of the time, he will act as a normal melee mob, only attacking the main tank.
The only special ability Gri'lek has is
- Gri'lek's size will dramatically increase, he will wipe all threat on the current tank, and his melee damage will be much more powerful. However, during Avatar, Gri'lek will move at a much slower pace. In addition to this, Gri'lek will start pursuing a random player. During Avatar, everyone needs to run away from Gri'lek and ensure he doesn't hit anyone, until he shrinks back his normal size.
Rinse and repeat until Gri'lek is dead.
Renataki Abilities and Strategy
Renataki is a rogue boss. His only ability of note is
, where Renataki will enter in Stealth. If left alone, Renataki will eventually emerge and
a random person, dealing a lot of damage and possibly one-shotting Cloth classes.
To prevent Ambush from happening, you need to break Renataki's Stealth by finding him with AOE abilities. Any AOEs, even ones that do not deal damage like
can break Renataki out of Stealth. One thing that can help find Renataki is that Hunter and Warlock pets will continue following Renataki even through Stealth, so just follow them and AOE their location.
Hazza'rah Abilities and Strategy
Hazza'rah is a witch doctor boss and probably the most complicated one in the Edge of Madness event.
Hazza'rah has an AOE
that chains through raid members. Hazza'rah does not use Mana Burn if he has no Mana, and as his Mana pool is very small (about 5,000 Mana total), keeping him mana drained is relatively easy for Hunters and Warlocks.
In addition to the AOE Mana Burn, Hazza'rah can also
- This will invoke 3
. These Illusions deal massive damage but have very little health and can be killed in a single global by most classes. As these illusions can one or two-shot weaker armored classes, it is imperative to kill them as quickly as possible.
Hazza'rah's last ability is
, an AOE sleep ability that puts the entire raid to sleep for 6 seconds. Any damage caused will wake someone up, so the tanks on Hazza'rah will be awakened almost immediately. Keeping healing over time effects on the tank is a good idea because of this effect.
Wushoolay Abilities and Strategy
Wushoolay is a shaman boss with lightning-themed abilities.
Wushoolay's first ability is a
that can jump to nearby enemies. As he only affects targets in front of him with this Chain Lightning, all melee must focus on staying behind the boss at all times.
Wushoolay's other ability of note is
, where he will invoke a cloud of lightning that will deal periodic damage to anyone that stands within it. This cloud deals a lot of damage if you aren't careful, so the raid must move out of these clouds immediately. If Wushoolay casts this on the melee or tank, the tank must move Wushoolay out of them. Melee needs to be careful to move together and avoid being in front of the boss to not take unnecessary Chain Lightning damage.
Because of the nature of Wushoolay's attacks, it can be tricky to keep a tank up. As his melee attacks aren't that strong, using some Nature Resistance gear or Nature Resistance abilities such as
can help immensely with tank damage taken.
