In this Shadowlands guide, we will detail how to unlock, upgrade, and use Bone Deathgates, which serves as a transportation system for players that have chosen the Necrolords Covenant in Maldraxxus.
Transportation Introduction
Every Covenant Sanctum has a Transport Network, which facilitates travel around your Covenant's home zone. There is an entrance to the network inside each Sanctum, and only members of the Covenant who have built up the Transport Network can use it. Like all Sanctum features, it is not operating when you first open you Sanctum, and you will need to invest resources to get it up and working.
No two Sanctum transport systems work exactly the same way, but they can be sorted into two categories:
True Network:
All network nodes connect to one another, allowing travel from one area to another without having to return to the Sanctum (Kyrian)
Portal Rooms:
The Covenant Sanctum has a portal area, with separate portals for each target area, There is a corresponding portal at the exit you can use to return to the Sanctum. (Necrolords, Night Fae. Venthyr)
Necrolords Covenant Sanctum Transport Network: Bone Deathgates
Bone Deathgates, the Necrolords Transport Network consists of a few portals with different uses, including one that leads to Zerekriss, the flying necropolis that travels around Maldraxxus. Although it has the fewest portals of any of the sanctums, it has utility the others do not.
The only thing required to open the full Bone Deathgates system is to fuel the three upgrade paths. This will require a combination of adding and spending resources through your Sanctum Upgrades, including farming Anima and Willing Souls.
Unlike the other Covenants, the Seat of the Primus has one portal open right from the beginning -- Overlook, Seat of the Primus. located at /way 58.5, 23.4, in the Seat of the Primus. This goes out to the Overlook, which is essentially a rooftop area overlooking the Bleak Redoubt. There isn't anything special on this overlook, but if you take a glider off the end, you will land near the flight point for the Theater of Pain. It gains some extra utility with a flying mount, since once you have your portal open, you can fly into your sanctum through the Overlook portal and you're right at your transport hub.
Upgrading Necrolords Bone Deathgates
You will need to visit the Sanctum Upgrade NPC to donate Anima and other resources. In Seat of the Primus, this is
<Sanctum Upgrades>.
will give you a screen that will allow you to choose levels for your Transport Network, along with the other Sanctum areas:
The first circle highlighted with a gold ring shows your progress for your Transport Network. The bottom center shows your available resources, and the panel on the right shows what levels you already know.
For tiers beyond the first, you will also need to have the appropriate Renown level to open that tier. To open tier 2 upgrades, you will need to have a Renown level of 11, and to open tier 3 upgrades, you will need a Renown level of 19. For information on building Renown with your covenant, please refer to the guide
Renown: Progressing Within Your Chosen Covenant
.
If you have the prerequisites to upgrade, the "Unlock Upgrade" button will appear in red and you will see a green arrow inside the tier you can research. When you are researching a tier, the display states "Researching" with a progress bar.

Tier 1 Necrolords Bone Deathgates:
Opens:
Nurakiir, House of Eyes - /way 61.3, 37.5 (Seat), /way 51.6, 16.4 (House of Eyes)
Upon completing your first tier of research into the transport network, you'll receive the quest
. Go to the portal area in the upper northeast section of the Seat of the Primus, and click on the scroll to activate the Bone Deathgates.
Turn in the quest and pick up the followup,
. This directs you to travel through the House of Eyes portal and return to the Sanctum.
Active Necrolords Bone Deathgate in House of Eyes
Tier 2 Necrolords Network:
Opens:
Zerekriss - /way 56.7, 36.5 (Seat), /way Variable (Zerekriss)
Opens:
Sixfold Recluse - /way 62.6, 34.5 (Seat), /way 26.1, 43.0 (Sixfold Recluse)
Opens access to Zerekriss, a flying necropolis high above Maldraxxus.
The Zerekriss plays a key role in the third chapter of the Necrolord campaign,
Grand Theft Necropolis
. After completing this chapter, which opens at Renown Level 8, you will get the quest to open Level 2 of your network.
The Zerekriss itself is a lot like the airships in Icecrown. It has a set path and goes at its own speed, and presumably once players can fly they'll be able to fly up there and get on and off at will. It does provide shortcuts to different parts of the zone, though it takes about 16 minutes 45 seconds to complete a circuit of Maldraxxus.
To answer the most common questions:
You can't steer the Zerekriss.
It won't go any faster.
It's a one-way trip down. Once you depart the Zerekriss, the only way to get back is to take the portal again from your Sanctum*.
*The exception to this is when you are using the Zerekriss in the Maw during the Necrolord Maw Assault. Please see the separate section about this feature at the end of this guide.
Once you have opened
, the portal to Zerekriss, you will have a portal that takes you to the floating necropolis.
This necropolis paths in a slow semicircular path around Maldraxxus.
It takes 16 minutes 45 seconds to complete a circuit.
Zerekriss' path
If you are in the Maldraxxus zone, you will see the fortress' location on your map. It will not show up if you are looking at Maldraxxus while you are standing in another zone. Unfortunately, if you are inside the Seat of the Primus, you won't be able to see the Zerekriss' location on your Maldraxxus map, because technically you're in a different zone. Since you may wish to know where the Zerekriss before you go there, this is a problem. This is where the Overlook portal comes in. Just pop through the Overlook portal, and you will be able to see where the Zerekiss is on your map.
Zerekriss (circle added)
Once you get to the Zerekriss, you will come out of the portal on the upper level. You will see a portal back to your Sanctum in case you change your mind.
Nearby, you will find a teleportation orb that will take you to the lower level. Take this, and you will see your way down: a little dragon named Twigin.
Teleportation orb and Twigin
Once you have reached the area you wish to be and are ready to depart the Zerekiss, hop on
. You will get a free Slow Fall down to the surface called
, which lasts for 2 minutes. You will also receive an extra action button that allows you to pick a spot on the surface (once you're low enough) for Twigin to set you down. This allows you to pick a safe spot for landing.
Being taken down by Twigin; extra action button with safe space marked on right (green target circle)
After this, Twigin will accompany you in Maldraxxus as a little pet. You can't interact with him or dismiss him, but he doesn't aggro, doesn't get into trouble, and he'll stealth along with you if you're a stealth class. He will leave your side once you leave Maldraxxus, and won't return again until you take another ride from him aboard the Zerekriss.
Twigin & Me!
You technically don't have to take
down; there is a large front window where you could go out using a
or other slow-fall device that lasts more than a minute or so (it's a very long way down). However, there is a high lip on this window that you can't jump onto without assistance. I was able to get up onto it using
, but since it's not an outdoor zone, a lift item such as
would not work. You also can't mount inside the Zerekriss, which means that unless you can get onto the lip some other way, you can't fly out of it with a flying mount.
Besides, Twigin is a cute friend to have along for the rest of your Maldraxxian adventures.
Tier 3 Necrolords Bone Deathgates:
Opens:
Exoramas, House of Rituals - /way 61.4, 30.7 (Seat), /way 74.4, 33.7 (House of Rituals)
In addition to opening the gateway to the House of Rituals, you now have a one-way portal to
in your portal room. It places you on the eastern platform between the Stormwind and Orgrimmar portals.
Locations of Necrolords Bone Deathgates
This does not include Zerekriss; there is a map of the Zerekriss' path above.

Necrolord Maw Assault Transport
When the Covenant Assault in the Maw is assigned to the Necrolords, all Necrolord members can travel directly between the Seat of the Primus and the Assault site.
The Necrolord's Maw portal works a little differently than it does for the other Covenants, in that it actually replaces an existing portal: the Tier 2 portal that normally takes you to the Zerakriss. The Maw version still takes you to the Zerakriss, but mousing over it will show that the Zerakriss has been moved to The Maw.
The Zerekriss portal now leads to the Maw
Once on the Zerakriss, use the Translocation Sphere to go down to to the first level, and then use Twigin to reach the surface.
Translocation Orb between levels; Twigin ready to carry you into the wild red yonder
You'll be dropped off well short of the actual quest area, so be prepared to use the targeting circle to land in an uncongested spot.
Although Twigin will continue to shadow you through the assault, you can't use this one to return to the Zerakriss. Your ride home to the necropolis can be found at the Twigin near Margrave Sin'dane and Draka, at /way 33.7, 54.8.
The Zerekriss portal now leads to the Maw
You do not need to have anything invested in your Bone Deathgates network to use this portal (having an existing portal to the Zerakriss is not required). All it requires is for the Necrolord Maw Assault to be active and for your character to be level 60 and eligible to do the Maw Assault.

The bone deathgate for Overlook, Seat of the Primus takes you up top of Primus. From there you can jump off and use your slow fall type ability, or a Goblin Glider Kit. The Glider will get you to the center of the Theater of Pain. Not real useful since there is a flight point right there. But there are other locations within reach that can be a pain to get to, and the glider can reach those, like the forgemaster.

Even after the buff by making the Flying Fortress Tier 2, the Necrolord Transport Network remains very underwhelming in comparison to other covenants.
I was very excited to get the Flying Fortress, however it's actually very bland and empty so the novelty isn't really there, you can't even easily stand out and look over Maldraxxus unless you have a way to jump over the entrance ledge. Actually using it to get somewhere quicker is awkward because the fortress moves and the method of getting out is a skeleton bird that just slow falls. So if you aren't close to where you want to go, it's pretty useless.
I very much regret upgrading the transport network first over something else, and If I didn't have a goblin glider I wouldn't use it at all.

So, just to confirm, there are no rewards from the maldraxxus transport hub? I know there is for Fae and Venthyr

definitely a very underwhelming feature. Most annoyingly because it doesnt even really give you everything it promises. It claims to give you teleports to each of the Necropoli around Maldraxxus, and while the House of Constructs one can be excused as we steal theirs, there is still little reason why Blizzard couldnt give us a teleport to the House of Plagues, or more importantly the House of the Chosen, it is literally right there and would be extremely useful for picking up the daily chest from the Anima Conductor.

Just upgraded my Necrolord Transport Network to Rank 2 and I can say that the House of Constructs Deathgate is unlocked at that level.

" Access to this portal is as dangerous as it is potentially advantageous." what supposed to be this "dangerous"? Actualy, up in necropolis only one killeble quest npc for anima conduit's quest of house of eyes. No more other new options in questing etc
