About the Authors
This guide has been written by Panthea, who raids in

What is Corruption?
Corruption is a new system of power progression which replaces Titanforging; instead of item level bonuses, they will now have a chance to be Corrupted by the Old Gods, represented by the purple-colored stat which adds both a positive effect and stacking negative attribute which incurs penalties at various thresholds. Although the negative effects can reach a point at which they become debilitating, carefully managing the bonuses and penalties allows for a great deal of customization and individual power gain.
Corrupted gear can be freely cleansed by MOTHER in order to remove both effects and revert them back into normal items. Corruption can also be added on non-corrupted items, by purchasing
Preserved Contaminants with MOTHER
. Corruption resistance can also be gained over time, both from new minor essences, and the legendary cloak
, allowing more corrupted effects to be worn. For more information on all potential Corruptions, see our
Corruption Overview Guide

Best Blood Death Knight Corruption Bonuses
Passive stat amplification effects
Due to the nature of Blood Death Knight, and its current focus on item level over any secondary,
all stat increases
should be valuable to you; however, their relative effect will depend on two factors:
How much of a given stat you have
How much amplification you already have
As a result, the following effects should be simmed, but considered as a default baseline:
,
and
.
Good Effects
Damage
:
provides a
ton
of unpredictable, RNG procced damage - just what we wanted to crown off this expansion! It's big, it costs a ton of corruption but boy, does it do damage.
Damage
:
, or geti-on-a-corruption. Does a ton of damage, but can only applied by direct effects - of which you have plenty, so it's not really that much of a problem. It's primarily a single-target corruption, but does scale relatively well in AoE. The fact that it is one of the lowest budget corruptions out there makes it particularly appealing to round off corruption budgets.
Damage
:
provides a decent amount of DPS in single-target. It's a BfA split, meaning that it splits its damage on more than one target but gains 15% per target hit, so it gets rather lackluster rather fast, and took the nerfbat enough times to be on the weak side single-target. Keep it if you have nothing better, but be ready to swap it out.
Damage
:
provides a ramp-up source of damage; while it is underperforming on short fights, it is currently tuned to be extremely strong on long fights - which just so happens to be every progression kill, typically.
Damage
:
provides another source of proc damage; it happens to be slightly cheaper than the competition in terms of corruption cost while providing a decent amount of firepower.
Bad Effects
: Our cooldowns are not meaningful enough to justify a 50 corruption price tag on this.
: Same point as above, except that it is a single spell for 3s on a proc.
: Its cost in terms of corruption is not worth the benefit it brings.
From a
purely offensive standpoint
, corruptions can be ranked by the following chart.

What Corruptions should I Buy from MOTHER on a Blood Death Knight?
Corruptions now can be
purchased from MOTHER
using
. Every few days, a new set of Corruptions will be accessible.
Due to the tuning on corruption, unless you have a scenario where you
will die
without
, you should be spending your echoes, wherever possible, on
. Since our spec does not favor any stat in particular (and all stats are good), and due to them being extremely weak, nothing else should be acquired.
To give some numbers on it, at a wholly-unrealistic 3 000 base versatility, with every versatility buff in M+ present (aegis, max conflict stacks), you can expect a maximum of 2% damage reduction per r3 versatile. This will not make or break you, even when stacked, unless you are dealing with content that globals you without counterplay (such as the keys done by Kyrasis/Faradin, the world #1 M+ BDK right now). If you
are
in this situation, or if you have a small amount of corruption budget left over,
is a good pick. If you are not, it is not worth stacking, will have no impact on your play other than massively reducing your throughput, and will cause you to feel like you wasted your
.
Blood Death Knight Ny'alotha Weapons
Blood Death Knights gain access to two new weapons along with the opening of the new raid. Similar to corruption effects from random sources, it is possible to cleanse them:
always comes with
- Should be avoided or cleansed; while the 5% armor would be nice
if it were given to the class and not as an item with a cost
, the total package is not worth the corruption cost, unless you are finding yourself in a situation where you are too low in corruption.
always comes with Tier 3
- Rather strong in AoE, but comes at a very high Corruption cost and falls significantly behind on Single Target. The weapon comes at a higher item level than other gear, however, due to the
very
steep cost, you'll likely be getting Twilight Devastation on other pieces if possible.
Dealing with Negative Effects of Corruption
In addition to the bonuses, corrupted items also increase the Corrupted stat by varying amounts based on the tier of the effect. Corruption stat incurs penalties that the player must deal with, and while these effects start out rather benign, they quickly ramp up in both potency and impact, to the point where it can be very hard to deal with during a Dungeon or Raid encounter, and even become outright debilitating at the highest levels.
There are five effects unlocked at different total corruption levels:
- Unlocked with 1 Corruption
- Unlocked with 20 Corruption
- Unlocked with 40 Corruption
- Unlocked with 60 Corruption
- Unlocked with 80 Corruption

At Rank 6, the legendary Cloak
gains an on-use effect which will remove and immune all currently active negative corruption effects.
is fully negated by the passive from
.
For
, while we can get out of the circle relatively easily, as a Tank, this typically means repositioning whatever you are tanking at the time, which, depending on the encounter, may be a bigger issue than the gain you had from the beneficial effects pushing you over this threshold.
- Since the Thing from Beyond disappears when stunned, if you have no other use for it,
should be used for it.
- You should ideally never reach this high level of corruption as a Blood Death Knight.
How Much Corruption Should a Blood Death Knight Take?
As a tank, due to the issues with
, we would argue for a safety threshold of below 20 Corruption in fights where the voidzone is a problem, and below 60 Corruption otherwise. Do note that this is also subject to you being able to deal with the Thing from Beyond appropriately, and should be balanced against the gains you are getting from this level of corruption.
Specific boss encounters such as just about every boss in Tol Dagor, for example, will see you preferring to stay below 20.

This guide is almost totaly wrong ! Don't listen to it. For example the guide says to play all the time below 60 corruption and when you need under 20. This is absurd. First, I would suggest to never play over 40 in M+ progress. You can only if you are confortable with or if you have a great amount of versality. (that's why Andybrew was the only who played over 40 in high M+).Playing under 20 is fairly too low ! First you wont have the benefits from the raid's trait but moreover you will almost don't feel the difference between 20 and 40. In fact the eye at 40 corruption is very small and you can easely avoid him. The only difference will be the slow but it's not a very big deal at 40 corruption. So no there is no reason to play 20 corruption "even in Tol Dagor"

Max corruption resistance is this week 90, means you can stack 6 Versatile rank 3 and stay under 39 corruption. An avanrage player with 2500 versa base will go from around 12% damage reduction and 24% healing increase (it's important to considere also this part not only the damage reduction) to around 25% damage reduction and 50% healing increase. That means he will double his damage reduction and healing increase. This is HUGE.

Boy, is this outdated… To all fellow BDKs: Do NOT cleanse Sk'shuul Vaz, just sim it or simply look at Bloodmallet.com and you have the reason why.
It´s actually quite irresponsible to recommend it in a guide that is read by thousands...
