Best Azerite Powers for Blood DK
As a Blood DK, you will want to consider both the offensive and defensive benefits of your trait selections. The offensive traits, particularly those that deal direct damage, can be quite strong for Blood, as they deal the same damage for tanks as they do for other specializations. Some defensive traits are exceptionally powerful and should be pursued; others are simply not strong enough to outweigh the potential for damage from selecting a damage-based trait.
Traits that should be prioritized for Blood DKs are flagged in the tables below with the icon.
Traits on the outermost ring (the class ring) are all class-specific traits, whilst the second outermost ring presents you with a choice between a class-specific trait and a generic.

, granting you Azerite Powers. These powers can modify existing spells, provide buffs, deal damage or healing, as well as other effects.
Season 2 Changes
With the start of Season 2 and the coming of Battle of Dazar'alor, pieces that previously had four rings will now have five. This new ring comes before the Ring 1 and offer two different spec traits for each specialization. Note that Items from Uldir weren't updated with this change.
Azerite traits are are divided into four rings found in your Azerite gear:
Ring 0
contains Spec traits and is the first section available on each item with two choices for each specialization. This ring is a new feature, found on Armor starting in
Season 2
, and requires only
15 levels
on your Heart of Azeroth to be unlocked.
Ring 1
contains Spec/Zone traits and is the second section available on each item and will likely be available to select as soon as you acquire a given piece of gear, contain traits based on your class specs and source of the trait.
Ring 2
contain Role traits, based on the roles your class can perform. It is only found on epic item level 340+ gear. Lower-level armor won't have this ring.
Ring 3
contains Defensive/Utility traits and is the last set of choices available in the piece;
Final Ring
always has
艾泽里特强化
, which increases the item level of the armor piece it is in by 5 item level. The effect, in turn, increases the power from all previous rings.
Due to the potency of our traits as blood death knights, the following table highlights the relative strengths and weaknesses of our traits separately.
It is currently advisable to always pick the generic option on the second ring
, except in cases where the generic traits are severely underwhelming themselves. These underwhelming traits are denoted with a icon.

染血符文剑
The strength of this trait lies the runic power gain more than the haste. As such, subsequent copies lose ~50% of the value, as only the haste stacks. If possible, get one of these.
诅咒之骨
This is the only trait on the class ring with a purely defensive component, and provides a small amount of armor along with a 15% chance to gain an additional charge of bone shield whenever marrowrend is cast. A common misconception is that this trait is valuable for the proc; under optimal play, this proc generates < 0.1 extra bone charges per minute. The armor itself can be worthwhile on encounters featuring an overwhelming amount of physical damage.

Provides a small amount of damage and self-healing when

is cast, scaling with the number of enemies in the reticle. A middle-of-the-pack trait, with slightly more strength in m+.

Causes the
main target
of Heart Strike to take additional damage from your plague. This additional damage, much like the plague it buffs, is leeched back to you. Each target affected provides ~110 additional HPS (with a 415 trait) while your plague affects them. The main drawback of this trait is that cleaving with Heart Strike while in Death and Decay does not apply this; as such, swapping targets is required to fully maximize the potential of this trait in high density fights.

This trait is more valuable in M+ than it is in raids, although it is still highly desirable on its first copy. Subsequent copies provide additional strength at a moment where, due to the 40% parry given by DRW, you are arguably at your strongest
血之精髓
Provides a very small amount of extra healing on every death strike for every charge of Bone Shield currently active. Due to the fact that this amount is static, this trait does not gain value based on the amount of damage taken, and is therefore a weak candidate defensively. If you do pick this trait, do note that it is
inadvisable
to change your playstyle to accomodate this, as the RP loss due to inefficient marrowrends is far bigger than the small HPS gain.

Provides a static boost to all your secondaries while you are above the corruption threshold. If you can activate this trait, you should be using it.
古树壁垒
Provides a fully controllable buff based on movement. While standing still, this provides a very competitive amount of versatility (equivalent to ~3% extra damage/healing and ~1.5% DR); while moving, the healing is pretty potent. The main drawback of this trait is that it does not exist above ilvl 460

This is a Strength proc, with a flavor bonus if someone dies. This can have value particularly during progression, but is only found on PvP rewards.

This trait provides a shared-cooldown proc with two possible effects - a DoT on an enemy target, or a HoT on yourself. Due to how blood DKs work, the only possible triggers for the HoT are blood worm bursts and Fallen Crusader procs. This means that the overwhelming majority of the procs from this trait will be damage. It is also worth noting that this trait does not exist above 460 ilvl.

Currently one of the strongest DPS traits available. However, as it only exists from PvP pieces coming out of the weekly conquest reward, it is exceedingly hard to acquire.

A dependable crit proc with ~25% uptime.
血祭之力
This trait gains more value in M+ than it does in raids, as the buff refreshes to full duration when an enemy you are in combat with dies. Depending on the density of content you are doing, this could mean doubling or even tripling its uptime.
羁绊之魂
A fantastic generic trait providing both healing and haste for yourself and the closest friendly player. In raids, this will usually be your co-tank; in M+, this will typically be somebody finding the proc to be valuable. The healing itself is consequent, its main drawback being a 5s tick rate.

This trait is an uncontrollable max HP and small primary stat proc for you and 4 nearby allies. Due to its uncontrollable nature and its lackluster proc rate, it is currently one of the weakest generics.

A pure DPS proc. It is worth noting that simulations of this trait assume that daggers hit
from the front
for blood DKs. As such, even in such a situation, this trait is competitive offensively. It provides no defensive benefit.

This trait is one of the best available traits in the game, and easily better than its alliance counterpart. The versatility alone makes it a desirable trait; the healing is just the cherry on top. Its main drawback? You cannot get it at anything above 460.

This trait's proc amounts to ~1% additional physical DR, and does nothing for throughput at a time of weakness. The movement speed may be useful, but as it stands, this trait is weak.

One of the strongest generics available to us, both defensively and offensively. Offensively, this trait is tuned competitively with pure DPS procs; defensively, since 100% of its damage is leeched back to you, you are healed for 100% of the damage dealt. You can expect upwards of 1,000 HPS from this trait.

This power is balanced around PvP, and the proc rate is undertuned in PvE. As a result, you should avoid this trait.

A decent mastery proc with ~25% uptime. This has the additional benefit of buffing your two closest targets; in M+ and in raids, this may equate to a small DPS buff for them as well.

This trait gives you a proc that requires you to hit three
different spells
to fulfil. Off-GCD and defensive abilities count, which may make the fulfilment condition easier to achieve. A way to track this proc may be of use when this trait is used. It recently got buffed back to its expected effectiveness, and as a result is now a good choice.
相对性常态化装置
One of the weakest options on the engineering goggles both defensively and offensively. The proc is RNG, and while it is a decently strong proc, its uptime is lackluster.

The offensive and defensive parts of this trait share internal cooldowns. The offensive part is weak compared to

, while the defensive part only procs off bloodworm bursts and fallen crusader proc. Overall, a very weak trait.

This trait no longer pulls additional mobs, and as such, it is now viable in M+ and raids. Worthwhile DPS for a purely offensive trait.
深渊秘密
This trait causes light and dark orbs to periodically spawn within 8yds of your character. You can expect 100% uptime on the weaker proc (light), and ~20% uptime on the stronger proc (dark). Not a bad trait, but it does require you to pay attention to those orbs. It is also worth noting that orbs persist for 15 seconds on the ground; it is possible to "hoard" them by deliberately staying in combat.

The mechanical aspect for this spell is similar to

, but Bwonsamdi has a tendency to spawn further than 20yd away and in extremely awkward places as a tank.

A relatively strong proc with ~25% uptime. Only available at a maximum of ilvl 460.

A strong critical strike proc with ~25% uptime. On average, the full 18 second duration is easily achievable

The strongest of the four traits on the goggles for throughput. The 5% damage reduction is welcome, although not something to actively think about. On top of this, its damage is decent. Do note that enemies
around
the spark coil also includes the spark coil itself.

One of the strongest pure DPS traits out there.
海潮涌动
One of the strongest DPS traits out there. The proc also gives you a chance for a single-target slow applicable from range.
汇帆
A decent mastery proc. This has the additional bonus of jumping to the nearest friendly ally at 1/4 of the strength, thus providing additional team benefits.
狡诈契约
The extra damage taken portion of this trait is a non-issue. For more info, see the notes
. While above 50%, this is the strongest available strength trait on average. Whether you should use this trait or not boils down to how often you can stay above this threshold. For the majority of people, this is a trait you want to actively seek out.
不稳定的催化剂
This trait has two drawbacks: it requires you to stay in a relatively small area, and its animation masks anything below it. This will actively kill you more often than you'll gain benefit from it.
Advanced Notes
狡诈契约
's damage taken penalty takes the form of a debuff (
狡诈契约
) on yourself being applied 100ms after the hit that brought you below 20%. While this buff is up, every ability deals 15% more damage.
Realistically, in all but trivial content, if you are dropped below 20% HP for long enough to take another melee swing from a target, the 15% extra damage will not have decided the death. The harder the content, the less likely you are to experience this effect. Furthermore, the fact that it acts as a debuff and not a partial application aura like Will of the Necropolis makes it even less likely to have an impact.
For this reason, this trait is recommended, with the caveat that the decision to use it should be made based on how often you are above 50%, as opposed to how often you are below 20%.

This provides around 8% physical damage reduction when it procs; it can be a good choice during progression or on encounters where you continue to actively tank after a high-damage ability that would trigger the effect. Subsequent hits reduce the effect.
晶化甲壳
This should be always active while tanking content of any difficulty. The armor equates to between ~0.2% and ~0.9% depending on content, and the thorns-like effect is decent in high-density M+.
生命之速
A small amount of static Haste and Avoidance. Not particularly amazing, but not bad either.
裂肠者
This is a strong option for single-target dps, particularly on longer fights or fights where the execute phase is the most important part of the encounter.

This is the strongest damage power on this ring by a significant margin.

This will provide significant melee avoidance in 2+ target encounters, and is almost permanently up in M+. A potential strong contender depending on incoming damage.

On top of being a relatively low damage proc, this requires three applications on the same target. If the target dies with it on, those procs were wasted. To be avoided.

The heal from this is going to have a high uptime for a tank, but is not strong enough to make it something we actively pursue.

Neither Mastery nor Leech are particularly valuable to us; avoid this power.
大地链接
This provides a moderate, fluctuating Strength buff, and is a decent (but not great) option.
元素回旋
Our secondaries are mostly well-balanced; this isn't a bad option. Don't seek it out, but it shouldn't be actively avoided.
压倒能量
This power provides a strong amount of haste. As there is a shared ICD on both the regular and damage-based decay, this trait is much stronger than the tooltip lets it out to be. Very desirable and one of the best general purpose traits on this ring.
闪光庇护所
This power isn't strong enough to justify taking it over other options on this ring, particularly given how it will restrict your movement while benefiting from it.
临危不惧
Even at its maximum value, the proc is only moderately good, and the situations where you'll be able to reliably benefit from the maximum value are few and far between. Avoid this.
不稳定的烈焰
A pretty decent amount of nearly-static crit. On average, you'll be sitting on 3 stacks of this, making it a middle-of-the-pack trait.

The heal from this will proc nearly on cooldown and can provide significant self-healing. By its nature, you will have close to zero overhealing from it as well. In many encounters, this is our best trait in this tier.

You will receive full benefit from this trait as a tank. It is a good general-purpose throughput mitigation trait.

In encounters where Avoidance reduces a meaningful amount of your damage as a tank, this is a stand-out trait. In other situations, it's strictly middle-of-the-road.
万人敌
This trait will generally not proc often in raids; in Mythic+, if you manage to proc it on cooldown, you'll gain ~40% compared to

, and lose almost all of this on bosses due to it not proccing. A dubious choice, but with some possible uses.

Between the two options on

, this is the one you'll want to use most of the time. It is worth noting that, due to the way this trait functions, it will regularly take a

more damage off you than the tooltip leads you to believe.

; however in any encounter with bleed effects - and especially stacking bleeds - this power can be very useful.

This provides a small amount of healing at a point where you are already at your strongest. The healing itself is ~25% of what most other traits would give you over a fight, and the cooldown reduction on

isn't enough to justify this choice.
远行者
The movement speed buff is theoretically nice for questing, but the scaling is so low that you'll barely notice it.
诅咒进军
At lower levels, this is completely negligible; however, at raid gear levels this is a significant boost to the effectiveness of Death's Advance. It could be worth keeping an item with this power for specific encounters.
符文屏障
The additional 1 second on the duration of

could have some situational utility, but otherwise this power should be avoided.

This power has no value in a dungeon or raid environment and should be avoided.

This will proc fairly often in Mythic+. Depending on the content, this can be be a middle-of-the-pack trait or a great contender.
Azerite Power Rotation Changes for Blood Death Knight
While Azerite powers are not as impactful as Legendaries were in Legion, some still can change rotations substantially.
Azerite Armor for Blood Death Knight
Here is a list of a few Battle for Azeroth pieces with Blood traits to look for. Note that you can have the same traits in multiple pieces and their effects will stack up to three times. The power listing here is based on all items having an equal item level. Remember that item level can often be a larger increase than a better set of traits.
In many cases, it will be important for you to have a wide variety of pieces with those traits, as they can have different values depending on what content you are doing, like Raids, Mythic+ or PvP.
Azerite gear only drops in 15 Item Level increments. Because of this,
the increase to Strength, Armor, and Stamina from an item level upgrade is more valuable than a given combination of Azerite Traits.
Always prioritize item level for Azerite Gear. When evaluating gear at equal item levels, consider the following pieces:

Finding Azerite Armor
Unlike other sources of gear, Azerite Armor isn't fully available in every game activity. While you can obtain it normally on non-keystone Dungeons and World Quests, there are only a handful of sources after that point for higher item level Azerite gear:
Periodic Emissary Caches, scaling with player item level up to 445.
Personal Loot Drops from The Eternal Palace, up to 445 on Mythic difficulty.
Personal Loot Drops from Ny'alotha, the Waking City, up to 485 on Mythic difficulty.
Weekly PvP Ranking Rewards, up to 475 at 2100+ (Duelist or higher rank)
Random or specific Azerite pieces from
魔术师瓦西里恩
, at the expense of
泰坦残血精华
.
None of these sources are really farmable and Azerite Armor cannot Titanforge, so it's difficult to target specific bonuses; generally higher item level is Azerite pieces are better. The best way to guarantee desired traits is to complete the highest Mythic+ Keystone possible to receive as much
泰坦残血精华
from your weekly chest in order to buy specific Azerite Armor pieces from

Just noticed an error, I was going through the azerite traits on your suggested gear just to check what kinda things I can expect.
In your shoulders list you have a piece listed named "7th legionnaire's shoulderplates" your tier 3 trait list listed as "Dark-runed axe". I read it and instantly got excited, an extra button to press! A legit cast time on a frontal cone! But I noticed the lil tag "azerite trait" was missing. Going to the gearpiece itself on wowhead revealed that the trait doesn't exist!
Going by other pieces, most likely the eternal runeblade trait on there would be the best choice. Just a lil correction!
But don't play with my emotions like that, I want more buttons to press when there is downtime, which there will be in blood DK!

So what your saying is that takr basically any azerite power you want for flare on the battlefield since they are all pretty much useless. Welp time to make a lord marrowgar "stick around!" Macro for dnd, and enjoy the sweet visuals of the marrowrend proc :D

You should take another look at Vampiric Speed in the inner ring. It says enemies harmed that die, not killed. It's great for leveling and also reduces downtime between packs in dungeons. Especially packs with many small mobs.

Hey guys, have you tried stacking some of these traits? They're useless on their own but if you stack a bunch of a specific one then it may have better results.

How about a list that shows all of the Azerite Traits in order of usefulness? So that if we have to pick between 2 "avoid" choices, we can pick the one that's not as low on the list.

been updated since this was written?
Just throwing some approximate numbers at it - a DK of around 370 will quite reasonably have somewhere around 315k health (with full buffs).
At 370 Marrowblood will be doing an extra 239 for each remaining charge of Bone Shield. You should have a minimum of 6 charges, so it should be at least 1434 extra healing (up to 2390 at 10 stacks).
Plugging in a range of Death Strike heals:
10% heal = 31,500 hp, Marrowblood is 4.5% to 7.6% extra
20% heal = 63,000 hp, Marrowblood is 2.3% to 3.8% extra
30% heal = 94,500 hp, Marrowblood is 1.5% to 2.6% extra
So clearly Marrowblood has a problem with scaling, but it looks to me like it's a long way off the "0.05% - 0.2% increase to your Death Strike healing" mentioned in this guide(?)

Please note that as of 8.3, Ancient Bulwark can be found on 460 item level gear, the amount of vers is insane.
