Welcome to Wowhead's guide to Burning Crusade Classic
锻造
Guide! Blacksmithing is the profession for players who wish to craft plate and mail armor and weapons, as well as a few other useful items such as Sharpening Stones and temporary chest and shield buffs.
This guide will show you how to get started in TBC Blacksmithing, including best paired professions, races and classes, differences between the current retail expansion and TBC, finding profession trainers, and the basics of crafting items in Blacksmithing.
What is Burning Crusade Classic Blacksmithing?
Blacksmithing in Burning Crusade Classic has changed little from Blacksmithing in other expansions. Blacksmiths must create armor and weapons at a stationary Anvil, using a
铁匠之锤
to shape the metal. The primary materials for Blacksmithed objects come from
采矿
ores throughout Outlands and smelting them into bars for use.
Blacksmiths may have Specializations in Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing, with further sub-specialties of Weaponsmithing: Axesmith, Hammersmith, and Swordsmith. While these specialties remain in TBC, these have changed in purpose and focus, which will be discussed in the section about "Changes to Blacksmithing Specializations".
Best Professions to Pair with Blacksmithing
采矿
is typically paired with Blacksmithing, since all recipes require large quantities of materials primarily drawn from Mining. Players who prefer not to have a gathering profession, either because they have the funds to buy all their material or who have alts to gather for them, may instead choose
附魔
so they can
分解
excess crafted items.
Best Races and Classes to Learn Blacksmithing
There are no racials connected to Blacksmithing, so race is immaterial to the decision to become a Blacksmith. The goods created are of primary value to classes who wear Plate or Mail, and thus Warriors, Paladins, Shaman, and Hunters would get the most utility out of Blacksmithing.
Differences in Blacksmithing Between Retail and Burning Crusade Classic
There are actually few functional differences in Blacksmithing between Retail and TBC. Shadowlands even saw the return of Weightstones and Sharpening Stones to provide temporary buffs to weapons.
There are really only a few substantive differences in Blacksmithing between TBC and Retail:
In TBC, you can make item enhancements such as the
精金武器链
and
魔钢盾刺
, and temporary chest enchants
次级结界符文
,
次级护盾符文
,
强效结界符文
, and
强效护盾符文
.
Blacksmithing Specializations (Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, etc) have carried over into TBC from Classic. Blacksmithing specializations were removed in the Cataclysm expansion and thus do not have a role in Retail blacksmithing.
TBC is the last expansion where Blacksmiths create Mail armor. In WoTLK and afterward, Mail armor is made exclusively by Leatherworkers.

Changes to Blacksmithing Specializations
Classic Blacksmithing included two main Armor Specializations -- Armorsmith and Weaponsmith. Within Weaponsmith, there are three further variations of Axesmith, Hammersmith, and Swordsmith. In Classic, there were several recipes only Blacksmiths with this specialization could create, but nearly all the items it created were Bind on Equip.
In TBC, Specializations are still there, and you still get them the same way as you did in Classic. However, in TBC, none of the items created by Specializations are BoE.
All
of them are Bind on Pickup, meaning only Blacksmiths with that specialization can equip them. Some of these include some of the best Epic-quality armor and weapons that can be crafted are only available to Blacksmiths with the correct specialty.
In addition, all Classic-era recipes requiring Specialization have had this requirement removed, so any Blacksmith can create Classic-era recipes once restricted by Specialization.
The good news is that TBC allows you to change Specializations; if you were a Weaponsmith but are dying to create that epic-quality sword only available to Swordsmiths, you aren't out of luck.
To change Specializations, visit the trainer associated with the specialization you want to unlearn and pay , then visit the trainer associated with the new specialization you want to learn. You can do this in Shattrath at the Weaponsmith and Armorsmith trainers listed above, or you can return to Azeroth and do it there.
You will not have to do the quests associated with the new spec, as long as you are changing from a previous one.
For information on where to go to unlearn and relearn Specializations in Azeroth, visit the guide sections below:

Reputations for Blacksmithing in Burning Crusade Classic
There are several reputations in The Burning Crusade which offer Blacksmithing Patterns, though this is far less for Blacksmiths than it is for many other professions. The following is a list of all reputations that offer Blacksmithing Patterns, how many recipes they offer, and what max reputation level you need to acquire them all. For a list of reputation-related recipes, please consult the Blacksmithing Patterns guide:

Note: There are one other factions with Blacksmithing Patterns -- Ashtongue Deathsworn -- will not be released until Phase 3. These will be added at that time.
Should Blacksmiths Choose Aldor or Scryer?
The decision here isn't clear cut for either faction based on recipes alone. Both offer four plate patterns, which are comparable for level and stats. The Aldor patterns offer fire resistance, while the Scryer pieces offer arcane resistance. Use other criteria to determine whether to declare for one side or the other, such as the shoulder enchants or other rewards.
Note:
You don't actually have to declare for either, but it will limit some options and flight points later on. You can also switch sides through a long, grindy process and get all the recipes.
Burning Crusade Classic Reputations Overview
How to Craft Blacksmithing Items
Blacksmithing requires the use of a stationary Anvil to create items. There are several Anvils across Outlands, mostly in major towns. There will usually be Anvils close to either Blacksmithing or Engineering trainers.
Blacksmiths also need a
铁匠之锤
. While it does not need to be equipped, it must be present in inventory.
Beyond this, there are many farmed ingredients you will need to make Blacksmithed items.
Several Blacksmithing patterns are trainer-learned, but you will also find patterns from drops, reputation vendors, and other sources across Outlands. For more information on where to find all known Blacksmithing Patterns in Azeroth and Outlands, please visit our separate guides linked below.

Decent overview, but could use a list of the specialization specific weapons and armor so people can plan what specialization they want to take into Burning Crusade Classic.

To change Specializations, visit the trainer associated with the specialization you want to unlearn and pay 50, then visit the trainer associated with the new specialization you want to learn. You will not have to do the quests associated with the new spec, as long as you are changing from a previous one.
You will not have to do the quests associated with the new spec
The above thing seems to be false. Im currently on the beta and Seril Scourgebane is not being able to teach me Swordsmith after I dropped Hammersmith.
Also the Hammersmith NPC is not able to teach me Hammersmith anymore.
Its either bugged or we are missing some information about changing specializations.

"You will not have to do the quests associated with the new spec, as long as you are changing from a previous one."
=> I think this is factually wrong; you can learn and switch between any of the specializations without ever having done any of the specialization quests. So, the quests are now 100% optional and only there to get the exclusive quest reward recipes (because now any weaponsmith can craft all three types of weapons from Classic Era).
So it's more appropiate to say "You will not have to do the quests associated with the new spec (period)"

If you were an Armorsmith Pre-TBC and want to change to a Weaponsmithing specialization, you can DROP Armorsmithing in Shattrath OR Ironforge, but you can only LEARN Weaponsmithing in Ironforge. You will then need to stop in Everlook to learn Sword, Mace, or Axe specialization.
I'm guessing Horde is the same but with wherever their Blacksmithing trainers are.

Changing Specialisations in TBC Classic.
BLUF
: Unlearn your current spec (I did this in Shattrath) then proceed
immediately
to in Org to choose a new spec.
So I was previously an Armorsmith from Classic and just recently changed to Axesmith on my fury warrior. I went through the steps of unlearning Armorsmithing for the cost of 50g and all associated learned patterns. Then I proceeded immediately to Everlook (Winterspring) to , picking up the quest to retrieve the Snakeskin off the Shadow Hunter boss in LBRS. Did that finally when I was able to wrangle up a group to run the legacy dungeon, returning to turn that to Kilram, thus completing the quest. Nothing. Other than the quest reward

. No, "Congratulations, you're now a Master Axesmith, my son!".
After a fair amount of back and forth between Thrallmar, Everlook, and Org, I finally arrived at the latter and went through the Blacksmithing NPCs one by one.
Pro tip
: the Weaponsmith trainer DOES NOT let you learn any recipes that require a specific spec yet. I struck gold - so to speak - when talking to , he gave me the option to choose from "I want to follow the path to become an Armorsmith" or "...weaponsmith" (or something similar in dialogue options).
Now
, I proceeded to Everlook and who had the dialogue option to become a Master Axesmith.
I think if I were not such a dumb dumb, I would not have had to do the
highly likely optional
quest to get the axe plans. But hey, I now can craft
