The Stonemother has shown little concern for the rebellious Aeonaxx, even allowing his spawn to be taken from her realm.
In this guide, we'll be shedding light on the methods used to obtain the rare mount
磷光石幼龙缰绳
, dropped by the rare NPC,
Aeonaxx
. We'll be covering information that the
WoW Secret Finding Discord
has compiled and refined, including spawn timers and locations, camping techniques, helpful addons, and much more!
If you’re looking to track your collections, Wowhead now has the
Battle Pet Collection Tracker
and
Mount Collection Tracker
! To use the tracker, simply import your character to view your collections.
You can read more about how to use this feature here!

The Basics
For those of you who are only interested in the most important info regarding
奥伊纳克斯
:
奥伊纳克斯
can be found in
深岩之洲
.
When killed, he has a 100% chance to drop
磷光石幼龙缰绳
, a grey stone drake mount with purple crystal accents.
You cannot loot the mount on a Class Trial character.
奥伊纳克斯
has a spawn timer of
approximately 2-8 hours
, and shares this timer with
觅血者
, a small, neutral bat NPC.
There are six confirmed spawn points, all of which are shared by
觅血者
. See
Spawn Points
for more information.
Aeonaxx cannot be tagged and looted in a raid group. You must be in a party of five or less, and he should not be pulled until everyone is in-group and nearby.
Recent Changes (8.3.7)
Aeonaxx now has an enrage timer of approximately 4-5 minutes from the time he is engaged in combat. When enraged, he will gain a buff called
荒野之怒
which causes him to cast
致命撕咬
on his target, dealing 50% of the players' max health as damage. This enrage spell cannot be dispelled, immuned, or avoided otherwise.
He CAN now be body-pulled with a 100 yard maximum leash range. All group members should be in-group and within range of the rare before he is engaged in combat.

Addons & Macros
These addons and macros are helpful for keeping track of spawn points and alerting you to spawns. They are not mandatory, but will make your hunt easier.
Addons
SilverDragon
will show a popup whenever a rare NPC has been sighted via Target, Vignettes, Mouseover or Nameplates.
TomTom
for the TomTom Waypoints (/way), shows Map, Minimap POI Icons and a Navigation Arrow.
Copypasta
(
more recently updated
) or
Paste
to paste multiple /way commands in one go. For Paste, you may also need
Ace3
if you encounter errors and
AddonLoader
to automatically load the addon.
Remember, with SilverDragon and other "rare scanner" addons, you will only receive an alert if you see a nameplate, target the NPC or mouseover the NPC. These limitations were forced with the introduction of Vignette mobs in Warlords of Draenor, which overhauled the rare NPC system as a whole. Therefore, you cannot completely AFK and expect your addon to announce a spawn for you as was possible in the past.
Macros
If you have issues copying the following macro or are looking for more macros,
click this pastebin link.
/targetexact Aeonaxx
/targetexact Blood Seeker
/run local N = UnitName("Target");if N and (N=="Aeonaxx") then PlaySound(13363);print(date(),N,"Found");SetRaidTarget("target",8);end
This macro will target Aeonaxx or Blood Seeker, alerting you with a sound and chat message if the target is an Aeonaxx. The macro will also place the skull raid marker on the target.

Spawn Information
奥伊纳克斯
has six possible spawn points. It shares these spawn points and its spawn timer with a level 15 bat NPC,
觅血者
. This means that only one of the NPCs (Aeonaxx or Blood Seeker) can be up on a realm at any given time. Once Aeonaxx spawns, he will fly in a small circle near his spawn point, and will continue to do so until killed or until a server reset. In contrast, when
觅血者
spawns, it only stays up for about 15 seconds before despawning.
Blood Seeker does not drop a mount, and spawns much more frequently than Aeonaxx. Blood Seeker quickly becomes a nuisance to any lucky enough to see him in his 15-second spawn window, but finding him can be helpful.
Tracking Blood Seeker's spawns will help you keep track of when it is possible for Aeonaxx to spawn.
Whenever you are able to spot this bat, it means that you can safely take a break from your camping for 2 hours, as there will not be a spawn until the minimum timer has passed (2 hours). Aeonaxx is often thought of as "the rare spawn of Blood Seeker." Simply put, this means that there is a small chance for Aeonaxx to spawn instead of Blood Seeker whenever a spawn is due.
The spawn timer is currently estimated to be 2-8 hours
, as such the vast majority of spawns should fall within the 2-8 hour range. Keep in mind that the timer can appear to extend far past the 2-8 hour range due to Blood Seeker spawns. As a result of his spawn lasting only 15 seconds, he is easily missed and can make your timer appear to have taken far longer than 2-8 hours. It is also important to note that
埃克萨妮奥娜
, another dragonkin rare spawn in Deepholm is
NOT
related at all to
奥伊纳克斯
.
埃克萨妮奥娜
is a Cataclysm world boss with her own spawn timer, and killing her will not bring you any closer to obtaining your mount.
The spawn timer starts when the body of either NPC despawns. For example, there will be at least 2 hours from the corpse or live despawn (after his 15s window is met) of a Blood Seeker until the next possible spawn. Aeonaxx's corpse despawns within minutes of his death, though a couple minutes may need to be added to the time it takes for it to despawn, depending on whether or not his body has been properly looted.
When Blood Seeker or Aeonaxx
does
spawn, it will be at one of six confirmed spawn points. The coordinates of all spawn points are listed below. The probability for a spawn appears to be split evenly between all points, meaning no specific spawn point is better or luckier than the others.
Spawn Points
The height at which Aeonaxx spawns varies depending on the spawn point. For general reference, none of the spawns will be above the ring of floating rocks high above the zone, and most are around the height of the entrance to
巨石之核
, with rocks or pillars nearby to stand on while pulling him.

Cross-Realm Zones, Warmode, and Chromie Time
Cross-Realm Zones
CRZ or Cross-Realm Zones are zones in which specific groups of servers share an instance of said zone. CRZ is implemented in all old-world zones. The groupings for both NA and EU servers are below.
High-population servers that are not connected with any other servers are colored red. Sets of connected realms are colored white and tan to differentiate them from adjacent sets. CTRL+F to find your realm quickly.

As an example, EU Silvermoon and EU Ghostlands are in the same CRZ group. This means that as a Silvermoon player in a pre-Battle for Azeroth zone, you can see and interact with players from Ghostlands, and vice-versa. In addition, all the NPCs and objects within the zone are shared between all players in the same CRZ group.
RP realms work a little differently, as they are not grouped with any other realms other than their connected realm(s), if any.
Connected realms are often mistaken for CRZ grouped realms, but they mean different things. Connected servers share zones, auction houses, guilds and players between them by default. Functionally, they work as one server, the only separation between the connected realms being their names.
This information is important because it often negates the value of the "Low," "Medium," "High," or "Full" population labels on realms. While your realm may be considered "Low" in population, it's very likely that it is in a large CRZ group with many other realms, effectively making your realm high-population in old-world zones. To circumvent this, RP realms can be used for camping, as can any realm that only has a few other realms in its CRZ group.
Warmode
The Warmode system allows you to control when you want to engage in open-world PvP regardless of what realm you are on. The option can be found in the bottom right area of your character's Talents page. Please note that this setting can be toggled off in any rested area, but can ONLY be toggled on while in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Valdrakken.
Warmode on and Warmode off are treated as completely separate phases. You cannot see or interact with players who are not on the same Warmode setting as you, even if you are both on the same realm. Rares will also spawn independently of each Warmode setting. To put it succinctly, you can think of the Warmode system as effectively doubling amount of phases in which your character can exist in while not partied.
Chromie Time Basics
Chromie Time is a feature introduced in patch 9.0.1 that can only be activated by characters level 10-59. When turned on, your character will have access to scaled versions of all zones from Legion and earlier.
Similar to warmode,
Chromie Time is a separate phase
from regular time. This means there are now 4 completely separate versions of every pre-Battle for Azeroth zone on each server group - Warmode Off, Warmode On, Chromie Time Warmode Off, and Chromie Time Warmode On.
To activate Chromie Time, talk to
Chromie
in either Orgrimmar or Stormwind. Which campaign you pick doesn't matter - there is only one version of Chromie Time that is either on or off, regardless of what zone you are in. Selecting different campaigns will not change this. If you wish to turn Chromie Time off again, simply talk to Chromie once more. Chromie Time will be unavailable if you are on a level 50+ character, on a class trial, or are a new player with no characters at level 60 yet.
Chromie Time and Party Sync
Level 60+ characters can indirectly enter Chromie Time by grouping with a lower level character who has Chromie Time enabled and then activating party sync. To activate party sync, go to your quest log (default shortcut: L), and click the party sync button below your quest list. Party sync is only available in a party group, and the button will not appear if you are solo or in a raid group.
If party sync is activated while the level 60+ character and Chromie Time character are in the same zone and warmode, the level 60+ character will be pulled to the same server as the Chromie Time character. If the characters are in different zones or have different warmode settings upon activation of party sync, the level 60+ character will still be put into Chromie Time, but on their own native server instead.
Additional tips on using party sync:
Some enemies are difficult to defeat alone in Chromie Time. Using party sync to bring others in to Chromie Time to help you will make them much easier to handle.
Due to a bug, you currently need to complete all invites prior to activating party sync. If you attempt to invite someone with party sync already active, the accept invite window will not appear for the person being invited. To make sure your invite works properly, turn off party sync before issuing the invite, then turn it back on afterwards.
You will not be able to activate party sync if you are currently in combat.
Class trial characters cannot party sync into Chromie Time.
Making Use of Chromie Time
A great way to take advantage of Chromie Time is to level up a character on an RP server or smaller CRZ server group to at least level 30 (the level that flying is unlocked). This character can be used to search for any rare spawn enemies or objects you wish, while having minimal competition and four different phases available to use.
The leveling changes added alongside Chromie Time make leveling much faster than before, so it shouldn't take too long to get to 30, even on a fresh new character. This time investment will typically pay off, as it will allow you to find various rares considerably faster.

The Hunt: Camping, Sharing, and More
If Aeonaxx is killed at one of his spawn points that is above a pillar (the two northernmost spawn points), it is possible for his body to fall inside the pillar and not be directly lootable. If you find him at one of these spawns, make sure you kill him above open ground. If he does fall inside the pillar, don't panic. See if there's any part of him sticking out that you can click on. If not, try to pull other nearby enemies and kill them close enough to his body to loot the mount via mass looting.
磷光石幼龙缰绳
will not get mailed to you if you fail it loot it off Aeonaxx's body.
If you are unable to loot the mount before Aeonaxx's body despawns, you can try sending a support ticket to Blizzard, but there's no guarantee they will award you the mount.
Aeonaxx can be camped either solo or with a group, or you can use characters on RP realms/small CRZ groups to have a chance to find him already up.
Group Camping
Within a group, each member can be assigned to camp one of Aeonaxx's spawn points, with one party member covering two. The party member covering two should sit between the Northwest and West spawn points.
With this method, it is important that you stay alert for any spawns that happen. You can do this by watching your screen, frequently pressing a target macro, or having a rare scanner addon properly set up to detect if something spawns in front of you via nameplate. Even if you do one or all of these things, it is still very easy to miss Blood seeker spawns, and it is likely that your group will go a long time without seeing anything at all.
Once your group finds an Aeonaxx, it is important to stay calm and wait for your group to arrive near him before tagging or killing.
Solo Camping
Solo camping differs quite a bit from group camping, since it's incredibly difficult to cover all of the spawn points on your own. The best location to camp is the center spawn located above the entrance to the Temple of Earth, since from there you can reach four of the six spawns using a target macro. However, keep in mind that you are
severely
disadvantaged solo camping when compared to group camping, because you cannot cover all the spawn points. To compensate for this, fly around the temple every once in a while to make sure you did not miss a spawn.
A good way to find camp groups is to to visit #eu-group-finder or #us-group-finder on the
WoW Secret Finding Discord
, depending on your region. There, you can post that you are looking for others to join your group or message people who have started groups.
Checking RP servers
You can find Aeonaxx without camping by taking advantage of the fact that RP servers don't have cross-realm zones (see CRZ section above for details). Thanks to their lower population, it's possible to find Aeonaxx already spawned and untouched by other players. If you don't already have a character on an RP server, pick one and level a character to 30 on it. Reaching level 30 will unlock flying and give you access to the Deepholm portal. Once your character is ready, go to Deepholm and use a target macro to check all of the spawns. Repeat this process for all 4 different phases: Warmode Off, Warmode On, Chromie Time Warmode Off, and Chromie Time Warmode On. Return and check again however often you like until you find him. Note that if you find Aeonaxx in Chromie Time, you won't be able to kill him by yourself, and will need a group. Keep in mind that you can use Party Sync to bring other players into Chromie Time, even if they are over level 50.
Tagging
Please keep in mind that with patch 8.1.5 Blizzard has made the following changes to rares and rare tagging:
A few of the rarest creatures in Azeroth again can only be looted by the first group to engage them. This includes Aeonaxx and Time-Lost Proto-Drake.
This means that once the mob has been engaged by any means other than body-pulling it has been "tagged" and therefore anyone who is not currently in your party or in the zone while in your party will
NOT
get loot.
Your party must be in the zone and in range of whoever "tags" or kills Aeonaxx in your party, to get loot.
To successfully share with your party and ensure everyone gets loot, the following is recommended:
Make sure none of the party members are on a class trial; Class trials cannot loot
奥伊纳克斯
for
磷光石幼龙缰绳
.
Ensure all of your party members are close to you prior to tagging
奥伊纳克斯
.
Pull and kill Aeonaxx, and loot him.
If you are waiting on party member(s) to arrive, you can engage him in combat and tag him with non-damaging spells to secure loot in case someone outside the group approaches and tries to kill him. You can also melee him without any gear and with resurrection sickness to tag. Then, when the other members arrive, you can pull him further than 100 yards to reset him back to his spawn, then follow the steps above to re-tag and ensure loot.

Trivia and History
奥伊纳克斯
used to be a friendly NPC, and had a unique encounter! Players needed to fly up to
奥伊纳克斯
and would have the interactable mouse "mount arrow" visible once close enough to him. Once clicked and mounted, they would be taken for a wild ride through Deepholm. Stone drake whelplings would spawn and needed to be fended off, whilst also whittling down Aeonaxx's health.
奥伊纳克斯
's encounter was changed with Patch 8.1.0, and he lost his unique encounter and friendly NPC status. The original fight can be seen here:
Before the most recent changes, Aeonaxx used to be the only hostile mob in the game with a near infinite leash range, and could NOT be body-pulled.
埃奥瑟拉
, Aeonaxx's Mate, is actually killed by players as a part of a quest line that starts with
飞得高,摔得重
. Aeosera is killed later on as a part of
共鸣一击
which is a quest in the series.
奥伊纳克斯
's spawn timer was much longer prior to patch 7.3.2, which dropped on October 24, 2017. However, along with some other rares
奥伊纳克斯
's was shortened to 2-8 hours.
Despite
奥伊纳克斯
being a stone drake with greenish-blue crystal accents, the mount he drops,
磷光石幼龙缰绳
, is a stone drake with purple crystal accents!
岩皮
, the second boss in the dungeon
巨石之核
, shares Aeonaxx's model. Unlike that of his rare spawn counterpart, the mount that Slabhide has a chance to drop,
琉璃石幼龙缰绳
, is much closer to his own appearance. This mount is an armored version of a stone drake with greenish-blue crystal accents.

Just seeking a clarification. In the Tagging section, you say:
It is currently possible for level naked 120 characters to punch Aeonaxx without instantly killing him therefore this method is a safe tag assuming that your party is close when it dies, or your party heals the person who is naked punching.
But then in the bullet points you say
If you are on a cloth class (Priest, Warlock, or Mage), you will do a very small amount of damage if you are wearing no gear and melee the mob. If you do this with any other class, you WILL one-shot him at max level!
Are clothies what you meant by 120's in the first quote? Or was this just a copy/paste from the Time-Lost Proto Drake page, and any class can naked punch it?

Personally I find this change in Legion (7.3.2) one of the bad things they did in the game in that Expansion (another one the broken leveling in 7.3.5, fixed in 8.1).
They could maintain the previous mechanic to topple Aeonaxx down, but
Scale him
to your level, so people at his original AND HIGHER levels could still do him the way meant for him. Right now it may be even harder to even see his spawn.

So i fell victim to the "If Aeonaxx is killed at one of his spawn points that is above a pillar, it is possible for his body to fall inside the pillar and not be directly lootable" issue this morning. Tried mass looting as recommended, but this didnt work. Ive submitted a ticket and taken as many relevant screenshots that i could think of giving evidence of my kill. The corpse was slash targetable, but yeah, couldnt see it and it wasnt interactable with in any way. Tried marking it, but that didnt work either. Im hiding the cutlery in case of disappointment lol.

Is there any updates to this to account for recent patches? My rare scanner, when the rare skull is clicked on the map, more than 12 spawn locations light up as places to fine Aeonaxx.

Got it today after randomly logging in to make a lap around the temple. Ragnaros, 11:18 ST, Chromie time, WM Off, south spawn point, flying around the stalagmite where you can land to pull it. As a 45 DK, had to call a friend to join me in his 44 hunt to kill it, after 3 attempts which only took him to 30%. Was easy with two people, so I highly recommend having someone to join you as it seems to be really hard to solo. As for the despawn after 2 wipes thing I found somewhere in the comments, it wasn't my case since I failed three times. Super happy since it comes 2 days after TLPD. Good luck everyone!

Just killed today in Chromie Time, WM off.
In Chromie Time you will need some help.
My druid is level 52 and Aeonaxx hits like a truck, even in Guardian spec. Ended up joining up with a lvl 39 monk. He tanked and I healed. Fight took us about 1:30-2 minutes. I was mainly healing with little dps added.

The best way (least painful) to get this mount nowadays is similar to the void talon: leave a bunch of characters in the area in different phases and check periodically throughout the day. When I was hunting him, I just circled the central tower spamming a target macro on four characters (spread out on different servers and WM) a few times a day and spotted him after two or three days of looking.
Unlike Storm Peaks, this zone does not have an inactivity timer. Deepholm is always fully loaded and running even if the zone is uninhabited by players. There is a good chance the rare will be around at early morning or late at night when there are less players active.
For your sanity, do not try to brute force camp this solo for hours at a time. The "fake rares" (blood seekers) are very easy to miss and missing one can cause you to waste hours of your time.
