Welcome to the Rogue PvP Dueling Guide! This Guide's goal is to inform
潜行者
s what the best Builds, Gear, and Trinkets to use versus various Classes in World PvP or Duels. Because the
潜行者
is strictly a Damage Class, there are three drastically different talent trees that a Rogue can specialize in and which Talent tree is the best can change depending on who the enemy is!
One of the most vital keys to success is choosing the right Trinkets when going into a battle versus a specific Class. While some Trinkets are just blatantly powerful, they'll be a must-have in a lot of fights (

, as one example), and other Trinkets that are viable might actually surprise some of you out there, that aren't that experienced in PvP.
This Guide is recommending information assuming these fights are taking place in the open World, where a

can change their Gear and Trinkets before opening on the target. Or this guide assumes this is in a controlled environment, friendly duel setting. The reason I want to stress this, is because a
潜行者
can't
reliably
switch up Gear and Items between every fight during a Battleground, so not all this information in the guide is applicable. Furthermore, in a Battleground setting, there are going to be more than one enemy, so specializing against a specific Class isn't even recommended.

vs.

A common Druid Build will be some form of Restoration, at least 21 points for

. Most PvP

will also pick up

from the Feral Tree. While in

, the Druid will gain a lot of Armor as well as deal considerable Melee damage. Some of the most powerful Spells in the Druid arsenal versus a Rogue are

Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Typically,
Hemorrhage Cold Blood
will be the superior Build when fighting versus a

should do everything they can to avoid the stun from

, so, of course, using

can help with that.
For Trinkets,

is always a great first choice, allowing for extra burst damage when you "catch" the

in Human form (
Human form meaning, the Druid as a Night Elf or Tauren, un-shapeshifted
). For this same reason,

can go a long way, giving the

an extra tool to try and "catch" the

, or just to extend their time in Human form.
Against a Feral
德鲁伊
, it is highly recommended a
潜行者
uses

over Tidal Charm, as the Feral Druid is unlikely to swap into Human form very often during the duel, and the

won't be looking to "catch" them as frequently as they would versus a Restoration Druid. A

could also consider using

Strategy and Tips
"Pool" your Energy and wait to try and Burst the

down when they are in Human form. They will eventually have to leave

to heal themselves; this is when you want to try and catch them with a brutal

up for an opportunity to deal a lot of damage.
Because

lasts for 8 seconds, never just randomly

. Always wait for an opportunity to Blind them, but first give them a full

(enough time for Abolish Poison to fall off), and

Blind the Druid.

Some

s like to live life on the edge and wait until the last minute to use

enough time to string out a stun lock, killing the

Watch closely for

proccing, which roots the

. Most

will immediately hop out of Bear Form and attempt to strafe away. The second Nature's Grasp procs, the

can use

, which will often "catch" the Druid in Human Form.

PvP Hunters will be typically deep into Marksmanship, picking up

. Most will also go into Survival, snatching up

s will typically go through a simple rotation for their Crowd Control. They will Scatter Shot,

. This gives the Hunter the time to create space between them and their target, where they will then start firing off

and do serious damage. Their Crowd Control rotation has a very short cooldown of only 30 seconds, so it can be very potent in a long battle. A

needs to dispatch them quickly!
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Either Hemorrhage or Backstab can function well versus a
猎人
. In some cases, it is recommend a
潜行者
has

because of

, which is a small chance that

can root the Rogue. In that situation, it can be very dangerous for the
潜行者
, because they won't be able to stick on the Hunter, allowing the Hunter to create space without needing to use the Crowd Control rotation.
Speaking of the Crowd Control rotation, it is imperative that the
潜行者
uses

during the fight. With Skull ticking, both

can be broken, before the Hunter can create space. While sometimes it can be funny to reflect the Freezing Trap with

, it isn't really necessary thanks to Skull. Another great Trinket to consider is

, where the Peasants can walk on the trap for you! In most cases,

Strategy and Tips
When really desperate, a

can

's Pet, allowing for a full

. Having to do this means the

has probably had a really rough fight and a lot of things didn't go their way during the opener.
The

should watch closely for

, especially if the

is using

. When Deterrence goes up, the
潜行者
should avoid using Cooldown based abilities like

. Instead, the
潜行者
should just hang in there for 10 seconds, until Deterrence falls off.
Directly after the
潜行者
Opens, they should use

, because most Hunters will immediately do their Crowd Control rotation to try and lock the Rogue down.
If a
猎人
wants to sit in a

, let them. You can sit in
潜行
just as long! And the whole time they'll be panicking that they are about to be attacked.
If a
潜行者
can get a clean

on the
猎人
, they should consider just immediately opening on the Pet and killing them. This might require a cooldown such as

or a

, but it can make a difference. You just have to kill the Pet before the Hunter gets out of Sap!

vs.
法师
Easily regarded as one of the best one versus one matchup in all of Classic WoW,
法师
versus
潜行者
is very nuanced, typically displays a lot of skill, and has tons of opportunities for either player to outplay one another. A PvP
法师
will typically be deep Frost, picking up amazing talents such as
寒冰护体
,
寒冰屏障
,
急速冷却
, and
碎冰
. Mages already have access to powerful space creating Crowd Control Spells such as
冰霜新星
and

.
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Backstab Build with
强化疾跑
is almost necessary. The Reason Improved Sprint is such a necessity, is because it can break through
冰霜新星
. With 2
疾跑
and 2

, thanks to

, it makes it much more difficult for the

to lock a Rogue down.
强化脚踢
can also make a big difference, allowing the
潜行者
to Kick right after an
寒冰护体
falls off, giving the Rogue a couple hits without a barrier up.
Similar to the
猎人
, a

is a great tool versus a Mage, especially one that uses Polymorph directly after the Opener (Most Mages will try and do this). Another nifty item is the

, which gives the

another escape mechanism from Frost Nova. In some Mage versus Rogue duels,

is used by both players, because it is a powerful reset. Typically a

will try to use

during the stun from Rocket Helm.
As for Trinkets, the standard

is the best option. However, some Rogue's have trouble reliably using their

; in these cases, it is recommended to use

Strategy and Tips
Because a

will typically blink right after they are Opened on by a

, it is recommended the Rogue positions themselves, so after the Opener they can try to

the
法师
. Because of the way Spell Batching works, it is possible for a Mage to do what is known as a "Gouge Blink" where they do teleport from Blink, but they are Gouged on the other end of it. Effectively wasting the Blink cooldown
In most situations, a
法师
wants to save
寒冰屏障
to negate any Blinds from the Rogue. One thing a Rogue can do is to try and force an Ice Block from a 5-point
肾击
. This can be difficult to do, often a Rogue will have to use Vanish Cheap Shot, the Mage will Blink, and then the Rogue can Sprint, and Kidney Shot the Mage. If a Rogue can force an Ice Block from a Kidney Shot, they can get a full Blind on a Mage.
After Vanishing, the
潜行者
should never run in a straight line toward the Mage. Most Mages will use Rank 1

in the area directly in front of them and will knock the Rogue out of Stealth. It is recommended the Rogue runs in a random direction away from the Mage after Vanishing.
In World PvP one versus one,

is an absolute nightmare for a

to deal with, and pretty much a free win for the

. Don't use this in a controlled duel; that is just rude.

vs.
圣骑士
Paladin is an absolute pain to duel against, whether they are Holy or, Retribution Builds. One of the biggest pains of dueling against a
圣骑士
is how long it will take to kill them, regardless of their spec. They get a free reset from
圣佑术
, as well as potent healing spells, Poison removal from
清洁术
, as well as
自由祝福
. Against Retribution, a
潜行者
should focus on locking down the
圣骑士
, before they can burst the Rogue down in a

.
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Against Paladins, Rogues should definitely go for the Backstab Build because of the burst damage potential. Against a Retribution Paladin, a
潜行者
won't have much time to kill the Paladin. Essentially, the fight goes like this, the Rogue Opens, the Paladin Trinkets out of Kidney Shot, then the Paladin uses Hammer of Justice and tries to burst the Rogue down. Because of this sequence of events, being an Orc is a considerable advantage; otherwise the Rogue really needs to use

In most cases, when facing a Retribution Paladin, you can't sit through a full

. The reason you don't want to sit in Hammer of Justice is because the Ret Paladin is possibly Specced into

Trinkets should of course be

plays a huge role in the matchup, because it can go through

can make a slight difference in surviving through a Hammer of Justice, but this isn't fully reliable.
Strategy and Tips
If you're facing a Dwarf
圣骑士
, try to force

with Garrote and Rupture, allowing you to Blind them later.
A
圣骑士
has a very short range of damage potential; they are quite easy to kite because they also have no slow. If a Paladin Bubbles, the
潜行者
should immediately start running away for an easy re-stealth, bandage, or even to eat food.
Because of how likely a Trinket into Hammer of Justice is going to come after a
偷袭
, it is highly recommended a
潜行者
uses Gouge right when the Paladin Trinkets, trying to apply Gouge to cancel out the Hammer of Justice stun.
Dwarf Retribution

圣骑士
are an absolute nightmare to deal with. If there was a real "counter" to
潜行者
, this would be it. In general, avoid these like the plague. They can and will destroy in the hands of a competent player.

vs.
牧师
Shadow Priest are one of the most formidable dueling Classes in the entire game and one of the most difficult matchups for Rogues. Priests are already outfitted with some amazing defensive Spells and Talents such as

. In the Shadow Tree, Priests can pick up even more from

. On top of all this, Undead Shadow Priest also get access to

Build, Gear, and Trinkets
In most situations, the Backstab Build is the better Build here. However, there is a real argument for Hemorrhage Build, while picking up both ranks of

. No matter what Build the
潜行者
is,
破甲
is a phenomenal first Finisher to use in the duel, as it will essentially negate

on the Priest.
As for Trinkets, the Rogue should be prepared to go through a rotation of the following three Trinkets.

should be the first in the rotation, used right at the beginning of the fight, after the initial opening Stun lock. If the Rogue is lucky, the Shadow Priest will use

into the Reflector, negating the Fear, and potentially casting
噬灵瘟疫
into it,
reflecting
it back to the Priest! After that, trinket is used, the next in the rotation should be

, to break the following Psychic Scream. And if the fight continues for a third Psychic Scream to come up off cooldown, the Rogue should consider

(if they are a Blacksmith). In the other slot,

Strategy and Tips
The Rogue should Open with

, into Backstab, and then

. This will set the Rogue up to do a lot of burst damage for the rest of the duel. The moment Cheap Shot expires, the Rogue needs to be prepared to deal with an incoming

If the

lands and there is a lot of space between the Rogue and the Priest, and then a
昏阙
procs, the Rogue should really consider popping a

; otherwise it could be game over.
One way to deal with all the damage coming from
暗言术:痛
and

is to

the Shadow Priest, immediately

and start eating food. The health gain from food will counteract the damage dealt from the damage over time Spells. If the Rogue watches their damage ticks closely, they can follow up the Blind with a quick

, allowing for more time eating!
No matter what, the Rogue should do everything they can to prevent space being created between them and the Priest. In the unfortunate circumstance, this does happen, a well placed

could be extremely clutch!

Well, you're a Rogue, aren't you? You know what they can do.
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
For the mirror match, there isn't any particular "Best Build", because it primarily depends on what your opponent is playing. In my personal opinion, I feel that I've had more success as Backstab with

. If I'm dueling versus a
潜行者
that doesn't have Improved Sprint, I can easily create space by breaking their
致残毒药 II
, while they are still affected by mine, which can give me time for a
厚符文布绷带
or a free Re-Stealth.
末日颅骨
is great to use on Openers, because it means the opponent can't Blind you. If you happen to be the victim of being Opened on, you should watch closely to see if they use Skull, it gives a Buff called "Flee", which will be notated in the Combat Log. Another thing, when being Opened on, it's a great idea to use

, right after the enemy Rogue's

lands!
Trinket wise,

is the best two to use, in my opinion. To mix things up, I occasionally will use

, which can work similarly to

, instead of breaking the Blind on you, the Peasants will just continue to hit the enemy, preventing them from using a Bandage or getting a Re-Stealth.
Strategy and Tips
Use a "Stealth Set"
猫眼超级护目镜
,
耳语长靴
when in a "Stealth Battle" with another Rogue. Use a Sap Macro to find enemy Rogues.
If you're really confident in your "Rogue nearby senses", you can use
地精工兵炸药
to break a Rogue out of Stealth and Blind them.
Gouging an enemy Rogue's Kidney Shot can be devastating for breaking your opponent's momentum.
When dueling a Dwarf Rogue, try and force

with Garrote and Rupture, allowing you to Blind them later.
Whichever Rogue gets the Opener has the advantage, obviously. If you are the victim of being Opened on, you can tilt the odds to be more in your favor if you have

equipped and off cooldown.

Elemental Shaman will go deep into the Elemental Tree, and put 21 points in Restoration, for

. This Build focuses on instant damage, from talents such as

. Furthermore, Shaman will pick up

, which amps the Shaman Spell

Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Both Hemorrhage and Backstab Builds can be viable against a Shaman. In some situations,

can be good to break out of

slow or even a pesky
地缚图腾
. While this won't completely deal with the Earthbind situation, since it will continue to trigger, it could give the Rogue just enough reach to get a big Gouge in.

is the most common choices for Trinkets against an Elemental Shaman. If a Rogue really wants to style on their opponent, they could use

. While not doing much, this can be a great way to discourage the enemy Shaman and show them who really is the boss! Ha!
Strategy and Tips
Always Sap the

first, and then run around and Melee all their totems before Re-Stealthing and Opening. A Shaman without their totems isn't nearly as scary as a Shaman with all of them!
The most important totem to keep an eye out for is of course
清毒图腾
, which triggers every 5 seconds and wipes a Poison effect off of the Shaman. This can remove
致残毒药 II
or
致盲
, so it can cause serious disruption to a Rogue's momentum. Always kill these the second the Shaman drops them.
It's important to remember that
萨满祭司
don't really have any true Crowd Control. Unless they are a Tauren of course, then they do have

. The main way a Shaman will create space is by Kiting. Using things like

and
冰霜震击
. Keep this in mind and always slap those Earthbind Totems when they are dropped!
Just a general tip, you can't
闷棍
a Shaman in
幽魂之狼
form, so just open with Cheap Shot!
潜行者
vs.
术士
Warlock are the absolute best Dueling Class in the game, utilizing Spells such as

, Voidwalker's
牺牲
,

, and

, they are absolute units. With so much Health, so much Absorb capabilities with two Sacrifice Bubbles, and a huge "Health Potion" from Major Healthstone, Warlocks are tankier than most Plate wearers in Classic!
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Realistically, if a Rogue wanted to really take a duel with a Warlock seriously and try to win, the best option is the Hemorrhage Build. The Backstab build does have
强化脚踢
, which can make a difference, but killing the
术士
relies so heavily on dealing as much damage as possible during the Opener. For this reason, Hemorrhage is the clear winner thanks to
冷血
刺骨
.

are the go-to Trinkets against a Warlock. In general, the Rogue should try and save
快速暗影反射器
for when the first

is about to go off. Because at this moment, most Warlocks will use

and summon a new Voidwalker. If the Rogue can reflect the Death Coil, it is usually game over for the Warlock.
Strategy and Tips
The Rogue should most definitely blow a bunch of cooldowns and

in the Opener to deal as much damage as possible, hoping to force out the

. Once that happens, the Rogue should immediately
致盲
, before the Warlock can try and cast

or

. The Rogue can then Sap, before starting a whole new Opener, which should finish with either the Warlock dying or extremely low on Health. This would be a great time to use

when they are panicking and wanting to use

!
If the Rogue Opens on a Warlock without having
快速暗影反射器
equipped or it's off cooldown, the Rogue can try and Gouge or Kidney Shot right after the Voidwalker Sacrifice, hoping to catch the Death Coil and effectively "negate it".
Just because a Warlock has a Pet doesn't mean the Rogue can't
致盲
and get a free Re-Stealth. The Rogue can Sprint and run away, staying out of melee range of the Voidwalker, Re-Stealth and approach the Warlock (while still kiting the Voidwalker), and Open before the Voidwalker gets in range to melee the Rogue out of Stealth. A Rogue can also use
扰乱
to force a Voidwalker to stop chasing them while they are Stealthed.

vs.
战士
Warriors are one of the worst dueling Classes in the game but don't get too comfortable, if left unchecked they can and will shred through a Rogue. With a great anti-melee toolkit, Warriors can mess a Rogue up very quickly with Talents and Abilities such as
冲锋
,

,
断筋
,
狂暴之怒
,
破胆怒吼
, and
剑类武器专精
.
Build, Gear, and Trinkets
Hemorrhage is definitely the better Build between Hemo and Backstab.

can help in some cases, whenever an
强化断筋
proc lands from the Warrior. This can be a nasty situation for the Rogue, enabling the Warrior to back off and get a free
冲锋
on the Rogue.
A key to remember in this fight is that the Warrior is trying to get on the Rogue and fight them face to face. The rogue will always lose this battle, no matter what, it's just a fact. It is the Rogue's job to control the Warrior and keep distance between him with
致残毒药 II
and Stuns. Unless the
战士
is a Dwarf, they won't be able to break out of
致盲
either.
For Trinkets, generally, you'll want to go with

and

, which can break the Rogue free from an
破胆怒吼
. This is one of the ways a Warrior can try to get back on to a Rogue when they are being kited, so breaking free from the Fear is vital.
Strategy and Tips
The "Dead Zone" is the distance between a Warrior, roughly 5-8 yards, where a Warrior can't melee the Rogue or
冲锋
them. This is exactly where a Rogue needs to be during most of the fight against a
战士
.
The Rogue should generally Open with Stun Locks, then use
致盲
to reset. After the Reset, the Rogue should use bleeds,
绞喉
and
割裂
, Kiting the Warrior in the Dead Zone. Once the Bleeds have fallen off, the Rogue can safely Preparation and
致盲
a second time.
Just because a Warrior can get
压制
triggered from a dodge, doesn't mean
闪避
is useless. If the Rogue is Dead Zone kiting the Warrior, an
闪避
can still be a great tool to avoid a load of damage. If the Warrior can only Overpower during the one or two seconds they might sneak inside of the Dead Zone, it isn't enough damage to really cause problems.
A Warrior will likely Trinket the very first Cheap Shot or Kidney Shot in a duel, and try to stick to the Rogue, putting on
撕裂
to prevent a Vanish Opener. If the Rogue keeps this in mind, they can try and land a Gouge right after the Trinket goes off.
In most cases, Warriors will use a Weapon Swap Macro when they change Stances. If a Warrior is running around with a Shield on, they are likely not in
狂暴姿态
, meaning they won't be able to
狂暴之怒
, which means a Rogue can safely
闷棍
them and

.
