Alcaz Island, Doctor Weavil, and Taming Mechano-Spiders in 7.1

In Patch 7.1, Blizzard revamped Alcaz Island, located off the coast of

, just north of Theramore. This guide assumes you know how to get to Dustwallow Marsh but tells you everything else you need to know!
Before you go
If you are a hunter looking to tame the island's mechanical pets, make sure that you are capable of doing so. Gnome and goblin hunters already have this ability; any other race will need to use a

to grant them this ability.
Whether or not you're there for the pets, nothing on the island sees through invisibility (although the proximity mines will detonate if you get too close, even if you're invisible). Bring some invisibility potions if your class doesn't have an invisibility or stealth ability.
Alcaz Island may be empty
In Mists of Pandaria, there was a scenario added that showed us the destruction of Theramore. If you have completed that scenario, Alcaz Island will appear empty. In order to get to the new, populated version of Alcaz Island, you need to visit an NPC near Theramore, who will send you back in time to when Theramore was intact.
The NPC is

, located at 55.9, 49.5 in

, at the west end of the long bridge connecting to the west side of Theramore. Speak to her, and she'll give you a chat option to send you back in time. There is no visible buff when you are in the past; the only way to know is to look at Theramore. If it's intact, you're in the past. If it's a smoking crater, you're in the present.
If you have never done the Theramore scenario, then you don't need to worry about this step and can fly straight to Alcaz Island.
The Approach
You cannot fly all the way into Alcaz Island. There are (invisible) anti-aircraft guns that shoot you down when you get close, dismissing your flying mount and stopping forward motion; you can't even use a Goblin Glider to get there. (The guns do not actually damage you, they just prevent you from flying in.) You can fly close but then you'll need to swim (or water-walk) the last bit. (It's possible there are some obscure ways to regain forward motion while high in the air, even after the guns have stopped you.)
The only ground approach onto the island is on the western side. There is a dock jutting into the water, and the ground slopes down to make a beach. Every other part of the island's perimeter is made of impassably high hills. The island's lone respawn point/graveyard is on the dock.
There is a mechanical

patrolling that beach. It has a lot of health but should be easy for any reasonably-geared level 110 character to kill.
The Path of Death
Beyond the bot, however is real trouble: defense turrets and proximity mines.

s only have 10 million HP but they do so much damage that they're basically impossible to kill before they kill you. So your best bet is to sneak past them, using some form of invisibility (e.g. potions or stealth). They can also be frozen with hunter traps, and possibly other forms of CC. But don't just run straight past them when you're invisible, because...
...there are invisible
proximity mines
all over the entry path. They can be detected by hunters using

, and possibly any other ability that allows players to see mechanical units on the minimap (perhaps an engineering item, or potion). Prox mines do something north of a million damage each.
There are turrets and prox mines all along the first part of the path, even to where it curves left (north) to the fork in the road. If you can learn a safe path through, you can get into the island without getting killed. If not, there's always the option of dying and resurrecting repeatedly until you're past the path of death.
The Fork
Once you get past the first set of defenses, there's a fork in the road. If you continue straight (north), there's another patrolling

as well as a bunch of smaller bots which should be relatively easy to deal with. To the north you'll find a small building with more mobs in it (as well as a defensive turret, but it shouldn't be able to see you unless you enter the building). Outside the building is the
青铜机械蛛
. The spider is non-aggro, unattackable, and non-tameable for the moment. See "Taming" below for info on taming it and the other spiders.
The right-hand (east) fork has
more proximity mines
in it, but you can avoid them by going along the north edge of the path, behind the tree. You'll reach the central clearing, which has some trash mobs, and three buildings. The largest, two-story central building contains

. The other buildings contain nothing of interest excepts lots of trash mobs. There is also, in front of
维维尔博士
's building, a ramp down into the prison tunnels beneath, which is where the

can be found.
Off to the east of the clearing is a path up a hill, which leads to a broken tower. Another
维维尔的飞行器
patrols this path, and there are two
维维尔的爪牙
s near the top of the path. Two more
维维尔的飞行器
s guard the tower. Inside the tower is the
黄金机械蛛
, and another
维维尔的爪牙
.
Doctor Weavil's Building
维维尔博士
's building has three segments. The first room contains a bunch of drudge gnomes, who are individually weak but can be trouble if they gang up on you. It should be easy to stealth or invis through this room.
At the back end of this room is a staircase to a middle level. This room contains only a large, green-accented mechano-wolf,
GU-4RD-3R型
, who has about 10 million HP and hits pretty hard. He is a tameable mechanical (see "Taming" below). He respawns in a few minutes, and has a big enough aggro radius that he will pretty much aggro on you the instant you enter the room. You can invis/stealth past him.

's room. There are a few

s in there, small piles of non-aggro sludge that do very little damage and have low HP. Doctor Weavil himself has around 25 million HP and some interesting abilities, but it's also important to note that even though he cons red, he is also non-aggro. He will not attack you until he is engaged, even if you're standing right on top of him. Weavil is full multi-tap, meaning that any number of players of both factions can get credit for killing him at the same time. He has a respawn time of about 5 minutes.
Fighting Doctor Weavil
Weavil himself melees for a low amount but has two spells that (ahem) spell trouble. Both spells are interruptible, AOE, and will hit everyone in the room.

: Slower cast time. Does moderate direct Nature damage and applies a stacking debuff. The debuff itself increases the amount of Nature damage you take, making his abilities hurt more, but that's not the bad part: if you get to 10 stacks,
you die instantly
. However, the debuff has a 30 second lifetime, so if you interrupt one of his casts of this ability, the debuff will likely fall off you before it can be renewed again. This ability only really needs to be interrupted once every 3-4 casts. High DPS characters may be able to kill him before the ability gets to 10 stacks, even if not interrupted.
心灵碎裂
: Faster cast time. It does significant direct Nature damage and stuns for 3 seconds. Do your best to interrupt this ability every time if you don't have good self-healing.
Weavil tends to alternate these spells, although the cooldowns are not exact. Sometimes he'll cast both of them close together, sometimes you'll have a good 15-20 seconds where he doesn't cast anything.
Besides that, the fight is simple: just stay away from the stairs so that you don't aggro
GU-4RD-3R型
into the fight, and stab Weavil until he dies. (Beware going AFK in this room. Even though Weavil is non-aggro, if another player engages him while you're gone, you may get killed by Weavil's spells.)
WARNING:
Some player abilities may bug out and cause
GU-4RD-3R型
or the trash mobs in the first room to aggro and run up the stairs to kill you, even if you're fighting Weavil far away from the stairs in his room. It's impossible to say which abilities cause this but I had it happen to me once, and I think it was because of
群兽奔腾
. However, I also used
群兽奔腾
more than a dozen other times when fighting Weavil, and none of those times caused adds.
He drops a few things, only two of which are significant:

: Moderate drop rate. This item is what you need if you want to tame the mechano-spiders on the island. You need one key for each attempt, because the key is consumed on use. See the "Taming" section below. (These are not soulbound, so you can auction extras.)
巨怒射线枪
: Rare drop. This is a toy that lets you turn your pets, minions, etc. big and red. Strictly cosmetic, but amusing.
I don't know the exact drop rates, but I killed Weavil about a dozen times, and got

5 times and
巨怒射线枪
once (I left once I got it, since I had already tamed all the spiders).
Taming
There are four tameable pets on this island. They are all mechanical type, and can only be tamed:
once they are reduced to 30% health or below, and
by hunters that can tame mechanical pets, which means all gnome and goblin hunters, and any other hunter that has used a

GU-4RD-3R型
This is the mechano-wolf guarding Doctor Weavil's room,

. He is a regular aggro mob, and does a lot of melee damage. Your best bet is to use a tank pet with a damage-reduction ability, like a shale spider or turtle or basilisk. Even then, your pet will probably die several times, forcing you to quickly resurrect your pet so that it can reengage

. Once
GU-4RD-3R型
drops to 30% health, dismiss your pet and immediately cast

and then

GU-4RD-3R型
has no interrupt or stun abilities so you should easily tame him at this point.
Mechano-spiders
The other three tameable pets are
mechano-spiders
. There are three:

,
白银机械蛛
, and
青铜机械蛛
. These NPCs are not interactable by default; you cannot attack them or attempt to tame them until you use an

on them. The
带电钥匙
is consumed on use, so you will need to get three of them from
维维尔博士
. The
带电钥匙
has a very short range (basically melee range), and a cast time of a few seconds. Once the key is used, the spider will become attackable (and tameable at 30% health). The spiders don't melee very hard, but they have two abilities of note:
多重射击
: A frontal cone ability just like a hunter's multi-shot. It does a good bit of damage, so it's best avoided. Position yourself behind the spider, with your pet tanking in front of the spider, and this ability will never hit you. (It's an AOE ability and so it will do minimal damage to your pet.)
极限修理
: This will completely heal the spider. It has a long cast time and is interruptible, and should be interrupted every time or you'll never get the spider low enough to tame it. Testing indicates that this spell is only cast below 50% health and has a long enough cooldown that you will probably only have to interrupt it once or twice before the spider gets to 30% and you can tame it. If you're having trouble, you might want to try saving damage cooldowns until the spider casts this ability for the first time, to minimize the window during which it will cast

I don't know how long the effect of

lasts, or whether another player can try to steal the tame from you. The spiders have a very short respawn time, however.

This spider is in the broken tower at the top of the east path, beyond the central clearing. There is a

patrolling the path. Bypass the two
维维尔的爪牙
s on the path (e.g. stealth or freezing trap), then kill the two
维维尔的飞行器
s guarding the tower. The

is inside the tower at ground level; there is a
维维尔的爪牙
up the stairs behind the spider. To disable the
维维尔的爪牙
inside the tower, your best bet is to respec temporarily to Survival, use
伪装
to become invisible, and go inside. Go up the stairs and use
冰冻陷阱
to freeze the turret. (If you normally play a spec besides Survival, switch to your normal spec immediately at this point.) Go down to the spider, use the
带电钥匙
on it, and then drag it outside and around to the back side of the tower, where you will be safe from all other mobs. Then tame the spider as described above.
白银机械蛛
This spider is down in the prison tunnels beneath Weavil's building. The entrance is a ramp in the ground right in front of Weavil's building. Nothing down here is particularly dangerous. At the end of the first tunnel is an empty, barred cell; to the right of it is a watery area with a hidden path that goes down, over, and up again to another cellblock. The
白银机械蛛
is in this cellblock. Once you kill the mobs guarding its cell, use the
带电钥匙
on it, and it should be easy to tame.
青铜机械蛛
This spider is in front of the lone building in the northwest area of the island, as indicated in the guide above. (Once you get past the path of death, take the left fork to reach this area.) You will probably want to kill the patrolling
维维尔的飞行器
as well as everything else outside the building, just to prevent any issues while taming. You do not need to go into the building or kill anything that's inside of it. Once the area is clear, you can use the
带电钥匙
on the spider and tame it as with the others.
