This is gonna be a shocker. A
doozy
, even, 'cause so many people are more familiar with me saying "Don't DO that!" than "Well, you could and here's how."
You know, I really do believe that World of Warcraft roleplay is pretty damn fantastic and that we can get away with so, so much in the world that Blizzard crafted for us. There's a canon example for a lot of messed-up stuff, but we, as players, have to be kind of careful with how we portray some of it. In this coming "Quick & Dirty" series, I'm going to be examining playing Dragons, Demons and Half-Breed characters. I am going against my better judgment here, folks, so bear with me.
So you wanna play a dragon.
Dragons in WoW are pretty awesome. They can grow to be
huge
, they live for an extremely long time and they have a history of meddling in the affairs of mortals. We players tend to kill them - mostly blue and black dragonspawn right now - because of how much screwy crud they're pulling.
Dragons frequently take on the guise of members of mortal races in order to keep an eye on important individuals and situations that require their attention - such as the Scourge. They take what they do
very bloody seriously
and keep the fact that they're
freaking dragons
very, very quiet. Most of them don't
trust
the mortal races, though, and who can really blame 'em?
If one wants to play a dragon, they have to do some research on the Dragonflights. Each Dragonflight employs its members among the mortal races for different reasons - some dragons will slip into society to study, for example, goblin engineering while others want to get a feel for the political climate of a particular race. Maybe they want to figure out how much of a threat one side or another is to a particular cause, or maybe they're escaping from the other flights and simply trying to stay alive.
Pages corresponding to each Dragonflight can be found on Wowpedia:
Blue Dragonflight
Red Dragonflight
Green Dragonflight
Bronze Dragonflight
Black Dragonflight
Netherwing Dragonflight
Each page has the following important information:
what humanoid forms each Dragonflight favours
potential reasons for a Dragon of their respective Flight to disguise themselves in the first place
the history of the Dragonflight
important individuals within the Flight
A Dragon in mortal disguise will NOT:
have any markings, horns, fangs, claws, scales or a tail that mark them as a dragon.
admit to
being
a dragon.
call unnecessary attention to themselves/their dragon-ness.
Bobdormu will not run around shouting random crap in Draconic, nor does he have massive horns jutting out of his wee Gnomish skull. He will not tell everyone he sees that he's totes a dragon, nor does he have a tail wrapped around his waist. He's a normal-looking Gnome, though Night Elves can figure him out if they can be bothered.
A Dragon in mortal disguise
will
, however, act like the locals and blend in with their surroundings as well as they can. I'd imagine that some of their behaviour may be a tad odd if they haven't done their homework, but Dragons are extremely intelligent and will most likely figure things out relatively quickly.
If one is playing a dragon
well
, nobody will know what he or she is until the Big Reveal - if it ever happens.

I suppose this is somewhat acceptable, at least for in game RP. We had a long discussion on this in the L&RP board.

Interesting Matojo; good start, but are you planning on expanding it at all?

I must say, there's not really a lot of information here. Rather than just providing links, it might be better actually providing the information within the guide (you can use things like togglers if you don't want it all to look too long-winded) and offering your own judgements. There's no really exciting formatting (there's a great BBCode thread provided in a link when you're editing/writing guides; it really helps put a personal spin on things and makes them much more interesting to read), and I have to reiterate the lack of information. Some more positive additions might include, say, typical plots, backgrounds, powers etc. that dragon RPers may have, and making distinctions between, as an example, a dragon who's been depowered by their own flight as a punishment for something (I think there's a Green Dragonflight NPC with a similar background) and dragons who are just in cognito for whatever reason. On top of that, a few sections you've already got, such as how they'll act or not act, could use some more expansion. It seems like some of this information assumes that the reader is already informed, and this is simply a quick summary page.
... Wow, this comment sounds really mean, but in all honesty this guide is a little
too
quick for my liking, and could really use some additions to help it have a little more bite.

I personaly like Green, Blue and Red dragonflights, thanks to the guide, I can learn how to RP as a dragon without making some mistakes, if you read the links to the flights you learn a LOT, from their '
capital
' to how they behave.
Yes IK WALL OF TEXT but it resumes all those links.
