Would you like to build your own
Ancient Trading Mechanism
, but don't know where to start? Well you've come to the right place!
To complete this quest you will need a level 2
Trading Post
in your garrison.
You do NOT need the post in order to collect the parts
At some point this must have been changed, it would appear you do need a level 2 trading post for the parts to drop.
In order to obtain the parts you will need to loot them (or buy them from the auction house). The parts can be found in various places granting one of the parts designated for that location. I warn you, obtaining them will be a grind, and you will likely receive duplicates of parts you already have.
You need 5 modules (parts), each with varying sub-parts to collect in order to make each module. See the tabs for each part below for more details on that part.
The
Cyclical Power Module
is created by parts found in Frostfire Ridge, Gorgrond, or Spires of Arak.
There are a total of four parts and they are:
Cyclical Power Converter
,
Cyclical Power Housing
,
Cyclical Power Framing
, and
Cyclical Power Sequencer
They are dropped from most mobs in each of the zones but have a higher drop chance from the level 100 mobs.
Personally, I found it most rewarding to farm these in areas that grant you rep for the faction of that area. (i.e. The ogres north of Daggermaw ravine, drop the parts and grant
Frostwolf Orcs
Rep).
These parts can be mildly expensive (my experience is several hundred gold), I farmed for a few days. I just sold the duplicates, and bought the ones I was missing. These are not too hard to farm. Remember, AH prices vary by server and a number of other factors.
The
Arcane Crystal Module
is created by parts found in Draenor invasions, and raids.
There are a total of four parts and they are:
Arcane Crystal Casing
,
Arcane Crystal Conduit
,
Arcane Crystal Amplifier
, and
Arcane Crystal Focusing Lens
All of these can be found in
Invaders Abandoned Sack
,
Invaders Damaged Cache
,
Invaders Forgotten Treasure
, and
Routed Invaders Crate Of Spoils
. These are obtained from completing Garrison Invasion's/receiving Silver, Gold, or platinum ratings respectively.
The first three parts are dropped from the bosses in
Highmaul
(All difficulties including LFR). The
Arcane Crystal Focusing Lens
is dropped by the "raid bosses" you can get to invade your garrison.
Most of these are mildly expensive (my experience is several hundred gold), I never got any of these to drop for me, but I didn't farm raids or invasions regularly for them. The exception is the
Arcane Crystal Focusing Lens
, that one tends to be moderately expensive (I typically see it well over 1000g but normally under 4000g). Remember, AH prices vary by server and a number of other factors.
The
Super Cooling Module
is created by parts found in Shadowmoon Valley, Talador, or Nagrand.
There are a total of four parts and they are:
Super Cooling Regulator
,
Super Cooling Tubing
,
Super Cooling Coolant
, and
Super Cooling Pump
They are dropped from most mobs in each of the zones but have a higher drop chance from the level 100 mobs.
Personally, I found these to be very boring to farm. Since they drop in the zones without mobs granting rep. A good example of a place to farm these would be Grommashar in Nagrand, since there are level 100 enemies there and the mob density is high.
These tend to be mild to moderately expensive on the AH (In my experience run as little as a few hundred and as much as a few thousand gold). Remember, AH prices vary by server and a number of other factors.
The
Auction Control Module
is created by parts found in Draenor dungeons.
There are a total of three parts and they are:
Auction Memory Socket
,
Auction Connecting Valve
, and
Auction A.D.D.O.N.S. Installer
These parts are dropped by the dungeon bosses in each of the dungeons of Draenor.
You can get these pretty easily by farming normal dungeons.
Personally, I wouldn't bother farming these, as they tend to run cheap on the AH (I see all the parts under 100g each regularly). Remember, AH prices vary by server and a number of other factors.
The
Universal Language Module
is created by parts found in Ashran (the PVP zone not the faction towns that are commonly refered to as Ashran).
There are a total of three parts and they are:
Universal Language Compensator
,
Universal Language Filter
, and
Universal Language Repository
These are dropped by the NPCs in the Ashran PVP zone, with the elites and harder to kill enemies having a slightly higher drop chance.
This is the hardest module to obtain. As farming will require you being in a constantly battling PVP zone and solo farming will make you an easy target for the opposing faction. I recommend farming this in a group of 3-5 people (preferably guildies or people you know, since you will probably need to roll on who gets them). Solo farming is possible but it will likely become a place of great frustration to people who prefer PVE content since you are constantly at risk of being "ganked". An added bonus to farming this one is, you can grab the
Battle In Ashran
(horde) or
Battle In Ashran
(alliance) daily for Ashran from your garison, since most of the mobs that drop the parts also drop fragments that count towards the quest.
Due to the more difficult nature in farming these, they tend to run quite expensive on most servers (Typically 10,000g or more per module, I've not personally seen any of these parts below 8,000g and usually they are between 10,000 and 35,000g). Remember, AH prices vary by server and a number of other factors.
After you have obtained at least one of each module's parts, creating the module is easy. With the parts in your inventory just right click one of them and your character should cast the "create module" spell. The parts will be gone and now you have a shiny new module. Complete this for all 5 modules then head to your garrison.
For this next part you will need to have a Level 2 (or higher)
Trading Post
in your garrison, it is a medium sized building. Once you have that, you will see the broken
Ancient Trading Mechanism
, offering you a quest. This quest (annoyingly so) cannot be placed in your quest log, instead it sits there until you have all the parts ready to rebuild him. If you were lucky enough (or spent the insane amount of gold on the AH) to get all the parts, you can complete the quest and you will see the
Ancient Trading Mechanism
standing where he was broken. Congratulations! if you completed the quest you now have an Auction House in your garrison! I hope you found this guide helpful and complete. If you liked it be sure to give it a rating :D
If I've missed something be sure to tell me in the comments and I will fix it as quickly as I can. Thanks!

I'd like to move my Trading post closer to my Great Hall in my Garrison ... if I raze and then rebuild my Trading Post building, will I have to re-grind all the Auctioneer modules and rebuild it, or is there any chance the auctioneer mechanism would just still be active?

Are you sure you don't need the trading post for those to drop?
My main which I've been playing ever since the start of WoD, that has close to every draenor achievement now, has cleared raids and dungeons numerous times... and which doesn't have trading post, has _never_ seen a single part of a single module.
While having level 2 TP might not be necessary for those to drop, I'm pretty sure you need to have at least lvl1 TP to see these drops.

Folks looking at this guide, they removed the Language module requirement in a hotfix On July 24, 2018.
Asheran PVP is no longer existant.

Looking for a good place to farm the world drop pieces? I don't know if the drop rates have changed since the guide's posting, but the suggested areas were abysmal, so I'm compiling the fruits of my research so others won't have to farm for quite as long as I did.
The drop rates listed on the pieces seem totally incorrect, I wouldn't trust them at all. I spent hours farming on things that listed a 9% drop rate or better without a single drop.
The best place to farm the Cyclical Power Module pieces is at the Frenzied podling(Foragers/spitters) enemies in Gorgrond around 50, 80. The Sequencer's drop rate is horrid, so you'll most likely get several each of the other 3 pieces before you find a single one of those.
The best place to farm the pieces for the Super Cooling Module is also on podling type enemies, at Socrethar's Rise in Shadowmoon Valley(47, 77).
The Super Cooling Module took me much longer to farm than the Cyclical Power Module.
I spent a while looking up the best places to farm this stuff, and after trying all suggestions, these were the areas that dropped the fastest for me. It's still going to take hours, but since the podling type enemies are so densely packed and have such a low respawn time they're the undeniable best option.
