Even though Monks are one of the more popular classes, I find that most people fail to realize (and take advantage of) the full potential of them. This guide will show you just how easy it can be to level a Monk, without Recruit-a-Friend, no catch. This guide is also going to be based on the assumption that you will be playing a Pandaren Monk, considering the Pandaren receive the most benefit out of any other race, but the tips and techniques I will be sharing with you can be used with any of the Alliance or Horde races. With that being said, lets jump right in!

Section 2: Specs
When leveling a Monk it is highly recommended to choose either Brewmaster or Windwalker as your Class Specialization. Brewmaster will help a lot for the instant ques into dungeons (not to mention the DPS isn't too bad), and Windwalker would be the main choice for better DPS, obviously because it's the DPS spec. I wouldn't advise going Mistweaver, as it doesn't have many offensive abilities and everything works a little bit better in Brewmaster and Windwalker. You could always "Dual Spec" at level thirty if you want to heal that bad, but I would not advise it at all for going from one to ninety.
Section 3: Items
This section is the climax of what this guide is all about; The "Holy Grail", if you will. In this section I'm going to be talking about many different items that are going to give you the biggest boost to help you on your journey from level one to ninety. Although some of you may not be able to obtain some of these items, you don't have to have every single piece. Just remember that the more you have, the easier it's going to be and the faster you're going to reach your goal.
Heirlooms
Everyone probably figured that this was going to come up, so really shouldn't be a surprise that it did. The heirlooms are probably the most important part of this guide. Whether you have the PvP or the PvE version, doesn't matter, but you're going to want the Leather Agility and Stamina Heirloom items along with the
Venerable Mass of Mcgowan
since dual wielding pulls ahead in overall DPS. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to get the
Swift Hand of Justice
trinkets, as they stack and give you Haste which is Windwalkers most important stat after Hit. The
Dread Pirate Ring
is good as well, giving you Stamina, Hit, Crit and increasing your Experience gained by 5% is very useful, but the effort required to obtain the ring is really more than what it's worth.
Leather Heirlooms
Stained Shadowcraft Tunic
Stained Shadowcraft Spaulders
Stained Shadowcraft Pants
Stained Shadowcraft Cap
Exceptional Stormshroud Shoulders
Inherited Cape of the Black Baron
Armor Buffs
Don't forget to get yourself some leg armors so you can up your stats some more (
Clefthide Leg Armor
,
Twilight Leg Armor
). Also, don't forget the belt buckles. Not only do they add stats to your armor, but they attach a gem socket to your waist item, allowing you to add a gem and increase your stats even more (
Eternal Belt Buckle
,
Ebonsteel Belt Buckle
). For the gem sockets, I would recommend
Delicate Cardinal Ruby
's and
Delicate Queen's Garnet
's. The Cardinal Rubies do not have an ilvl requirement, meaning that if you can socket any item from levels ten to eighty five than you can stick those gems right into the sockets. If you do not have access to either of those gems, just about any Agility gem will do just fine. Any stat increase is always better than none at all. Also, due to an update in a recent patch (I believe it was 5.3, but I'm not 100% sure so I apologize) all enchants are now usable at any level, and will scale to the respectable character level. They work the exact same way as heirlooms do. With that being said there are many different enchants to choose from, and many have their own personal preferences. So I will not be recommending enchants.
Commons/Consumables
There are many items in the world of Azeroth that are literally there to help you. First off are
Swiftness Potion
's. Even though you are a Monk and you have many mobile abilities already, one extra speed boost couldn't hurt, right? Another easy thing to do that will definitely help you out in more ways than one is to join a high level guild. Now, this may sound like common sense, but I cannot stress this enough. I would always recommend a level twenty five guild just for the extra perks, but you really only need a level six guild for
Fast Track
(Rank 2). Having Fast Track (Rank 2) is like having another Heirloom. The experience bonus stacks with all other experiences bonuses, so it's like having 10% experience boost on top of anything else that is increasing your experience gain. There really is no reason to not be in a guild of at least level six.
"The Quest"
Another tip for Monks in general is an ability you unlock at Level 20, called
Zen Pilgrimage
, which allows you to travel to the "Peak of Serenity" which is in Pandaria. Once you use the spell again it will return you to wherever you where before you traveled to the Peak. The Peak of Serenity is a Monk only zone where there are Trainers, Quest Givers and Vendors for many different items to help you on your journey. If you are a Pandaren, one of your Racials is called
Epicurean
, which doubles the stats you receive from food buffs. At the Peak of Serenity you will find a vendor named
Master Chang
who sells all types of food from level twenty all the way up to level eighty five. With Epicurean the Agility buff (or Intellect buff) would be doubled.
Also at the Peak of Serenity are quest givers. Every twenty levels you will receive a class quest that teaches you how to play and gives you a reward, and once you do the quest for the first time you will unlock the daily version of it. Completing the daily version of the quest will give you a buff called
Enlightenment
which increases your experience gained by 50% for 1 hour. This quest can be completed once a day, which means that the buff can be receivable once a day. So for one hour a day you can increase your total experience gained by half which is quite a bit in the long run.
Peak of Serenity
Conclusion
After reading all of that (or skimming through it and looking at the url links, whatever you prefer) I hope it helps you realize that leveling a Monk shouldn't be that hard. Whether you have fancy Heirlooms, Shiny Gems, or even just a 60 minute buff. Even though most people love Monks, there's still a lot we have to learn.
Acknowledgement:
There is only one person for me to acknowledge, his name is Paiid. He is a World of Warcraft player and Youtuber. He created his guide on Monk Leveling before Mists of Pandaria came out. With some editing I was able to update it for Patch 5.4.8, so ALL credit should go to Paiid. He is an amazing player, and an even better Youtuber. I wouldn't be as far as I am today without his help.

Hello.
First of all; nice initiative.
Sadly, it lacks a few things to live up to the name of the guide and there's at least one glaring error.
Let's start from the error; Belt buckles. You simply cannot attach a belt buckle to anything below itemlvl 300, which essentially means before you're lvl 80+ (if you've got a blue drop with the required ilvl). Also, the bonus would be so minor (12 agi until lvl 60) that it wouldn't really matter anything much.
Also, your guide is named "Fastest Methods", but you haven't listed anything that any first timer wouldn't find out before he hit level 20.
Foodbuff is nice. Check!
Heirlooms kills me in PvP. Check!
I need to pick a race to play. Check!
There's nothing about the class itself. There's nothing about what is actually faster (questing, grinding, dungeoneering) and all in all, it's really just one big well formatted dissapointment.
I'm not meaning to dishearten you. As I said, it's a good initiative, but it's just not really worth anything.
The ONLY information I got from reading this was that I should dual wield if I go windwalker. That's kind of weak.
Good luck improving it!

Edit: Not to mention it hasn't been updated for WoD. So now, it's close to useless. :(
My monk is 100 now anyways and I'm enjoying healing on it. Only thing I'm unsure of is if human was actually the better choice for a monk healer in WoD. I'm sure those 3% spirit was in MoP, but not now.

I got to say this guide is nice and well made but there is one problem. It is out of date for the WoD series and if any new player read this guide, they might choose a race for the wrong reasons with the fact some traits bonuses were removed and replaced at launch of 6.1.0. Also, heirloom and gems info are out of date greatly and needs a full overhaul to them. plus, it speaks about how there are 25 guilds.this here is absolete. At the launch of WoD, guild levels were never a priority because of all the level 25 guilds would prevent player joining new guilds because of their benfits, keeping it not a steady, if at all possible, and productive guild where it is impossible to invite to new guilds.
