This guide will describe in four parts how to easily collect ore without having to fly in circles waiting for a yellow dot to pop up on your map. By the end if you decide to take the tips in the guide you should no longer want for a whichever ore your hunting again. The four parts are:
Part 1:
Items to Have and Add-ons to Use
Though this may be obvious you most definitely should bring a pick. you can get a
矿工锄
from most general profession venders as well as some mining specific venders. it may not be the greatest pick in the game but the +10 Mining skill is helpful. some alternatives from
工程学
include:
锋刃锄
,
锤头锄
, and
侏儒军刀
. There are several other picks you can pick up from mobs or rare drops all over the place but I personally suggest the army knife, do to its many functions it is good for conserving bag space. If you can't make one (requires an engineering level of 435) or find it on the action house you might be able to get one off a guild mate or an engineer friend. When mining in general this is all you need as long as you have a good bag to carry your hall. When mining ghost Iron there is two more gadget that will make your life very easy;
破雾护目镜
witch increases the number of nodes you can see and
古代熊猫人矿镐
witch allows you to find gems in nodes when mining
幽冥铁矿脉
,
延极矿脉
and
凯帕琥珀矿脉
. These are a godsend, giving you a leg up over everyone els when in Pandaria.
Add-ons are slightly more complicated. Firstly you'll need the Curse client witch can be found here ->
http://www.curse.com/client
after you've done that you will need GatherMate or GatherMate2 and their respective data modules. There isn't much difference between the two so just pick witch ever you prefer though I personally use GM2. After that you'll also want Auctioneer. GatherMate logs the common spawn points of all nodes and you can set it to display mining vanes, herbs, fishing spots, chests, and archaeology sites though you can set it to display only ore depending on your preference. the GatherMate module, listed under GatherMate_Data or GatherMate2_Data. These Modules simply include all the information already so that you don't have to go mine everything once or twice before you have an accurate map of the ore spawns in a zone. Auctioneer will help you sell of some of your extra for a good price, just scan every day for a weak and you should have accurate pricing estimates. Part 2:
Proper Techniques and Habits
When collecting a specific ore or any other node, most people just fly around in big circles to get the most they can as fast as they can but it comes with a drawback. It is boring as all hell! flying around like a goose with an inner ear infection just makes the process very dull and in the end you will probably end up giving up pretty soon into it. How do I sidestep this unpleasant factor you might ask? Simple.... You don't farm. I have found that you can collect almost 10x the amount you might just from vulture farming (This being my term for people flying in circles and diving on whatever nodes they find). Its important to enjoy yourself when your playing the game, this way you can keep going for a considerable amount of time.
The first thing you might want to consider is what quests in the zone your harvesting in have you not completed. Doing quests, even low level ones, is a superb way of keeping your focus on the zone and the quest rewards aren't a bad bonus. When questing you can get a more hands on understanding of the zone and it might help you work out where exactly some nodes may spawn (underground caves or mines for example would be confusing to understand form the maps over head perspective). If you have already done all the quests in the zone try doing whatever dailies are available. If you've already finished them or cannot find any in the zone, then set a goal for yourself for the amount you want to collect and then think about drops from mobs in the zone that you might want to farm. Multitasking is a great way to maintain your interest in the activity and is great for maximizing your hall of useful items.
Part 3:
Collecting Ghost Iron and Other Ore
There is one tip that I got a long time ago that I find to be perhaps the most important for any Miner or Herbalist in game. Unless your bags are full of stuff you need,
Always, Always, Always, Harvest a node if you see one!!
If you feel like you don't need more of that stuff well to bad, it isn't costing you any gold to just go over to a node and take it. Even if it doesn't sell tremendously well, as long as its worth something you need to pick it up! Just think about it like coal or iron in minecraft, you may get to the point where you have a chest full of the stuff but if you don't take it you will eventually end up running out and cursing yourself for not restocking earlier.
There is always a use for ore or metal so theres always a need for a steady supply of said goods. That said, there is a point when you shouldn't actively hunt a mat unless you need a substantial amount of it for something, A safe amount for ghost iron to sit in you bag is about 3-4 stacks. Keeping a baseline for common mats is a good way to insure that you can use, sell or give it at a moments notice and allowing you to react to more situations. It is not necessary to maintain a stock of mats that are not commonly used like
魔钢锭
for instance.
Part 4:
What to do With Your Extra Metal
Now this is where Auctioneer comes in. With your new surplus of metal its time to go to the auction house. after scanning for a week or so you can go to the "Post" tab and check the undercut box. if you were reselling ore it would be different and undercutting may kill your profit but if you've been fallowing this guide most to all of you ore should be self liberated and so you are getting a profit either way. An auctioneer tooltip will appear when you scroll over the item with your curser will suggest weather you should vender, smelt or auction the ore depending on the max profit. beware of being undercut yourself because it will make it far less likely that someone will buy your auctions.
Watch the market trends and learn what sells fast and what will take a wile to move on your server and you should be a master in no time. again if your having more trouble please consult the for-mentioned guide.
Thank you for reading! I hope it was helpful. Please leave a comment and rating and feel free to message me with any questions.
Happy Mining!

Hi there,
Right now this guide is lacking a bit in content and layout. Consider taking a look at some other popular guides for ideas on how to improve both sides of the guide usefulness.
