Welcome to Gearing up your Level 100 and why PVP > Dungeons > Grinding
What is this guide trying to do?
I am here to show you the quickest way to get the gear you need for raiding and waste as little resource/time as possible. This is NOT a Mythic Raid guide or the like this is simply to get your going in LFR & Normal raids and skip out on much of the normal grinding you need to prep for Heroic Dungeons and Normal/LFR Raids. Because we would rather be raiding then grinding with our fresh level 100.
Ok... SO why is PVP the best choice?
Normally when hitting level 100 you journey to getting geared for raids is tedious. Here are your options:
Hope Baleful gear missions appear for your followers and hope they can complete them
Grinding Apexis missions daily which may be a little rough with fresh 100 gear and no bodyguard
Run Normal Dungeons at 100 to get geared to run Heroics, so you can get gear to run Raids (Phew...)
If you have a ton of gold you can easily upgrade 3 warforged items and thats 3 slots you don't have to loot for... although this is very costly past the ~670 mark
Now... Why would we want to PVP instead?
No Requirements -
Can que up at level 100 and your gear will be *Upscaled* to the appropriate ilvl (it's not perfect, but sure helps out a bunch) The more people in the raid/bg the less little mistakes matter on the whole. A easier learning curve
Prep for level 100 -
You can do Battlegrounds before 100 to save up the 4k honor cap to buy 1-3 pieces as soon as you hit level 100 (were talking 670 gear too!!!)
Repeat-ability -
yon can run Asharan all day and as many bg's as you like. There is no cap such as running heroics dungeons 1 time
Group Activity -
your not doing it alone... your grouped up with no less then 9 other people up to 40 doing these events so a mistake/undergear here or there doesn't make a huge difference with the overall whole. You Can group up with as many or little friends from your realm as you like!
Coordination -
While PVP tends to have ragers just like Dungeons, you don't have that weird urge to push forward as fast as possible and people are more willing to talk
Wiping VS Respawning -
If you mess up in a dungeon your group wipes.. Everyone dies, you have to reenter the dungeon, heal, rebuff, ect... You Mess up in PVP in 5-30 seconds your back in the game at full life baby!
Reward for Failure -
If you wipe multiple times on a dungeon and everyone quits your very likely to walk away with nothing but some gold and a repair bill, but in PVP you don't worry about repairing, and you get honor/rewards based on participation so your still get honor points that can be used to buy armor and may even get MORE if it was close. So you NEVER walk away empty handed it's all about participation losing a close match is still rewarding!
Honor is Easy -
The Stadium in your Garrison, Garrison missions, Winning BG's, Losing BG's, Wining Asharan, Losing Asharan, being near a person who scored a kill, turning in objects, ect... you can earn HONOR all day long with a large variety of methods.
Lots of Mechanics & little Research -
There are all kinds of different BG's everything from Capture the Flag to Operating Siege Engines!! Lots of fun mechanics that don't require you watching a youtube video on every dungeon before going in to prevent from being yelled at!
You can always PVP -
If you use PVP gear to get into raiding you will find that as you build up your raiding gear to replace it with you will always have your PVP set ready to go if you want to take a break from raiding and go cleave some skulls!
Newbie Raid Gear -
There is stat differences between PVP and Dungeon gear.. Thats why your not going to take a full 700ilvl gear set and start doing Heroic Raids. The one you will notice right off is a increase in Stamina over raid gear. Which i consider this a plus to a new raider it allows you to stand in that lake of fire, or forget to move out of the bosses lightening attack and have the extra Stamina to survive as your travel the learning curve that LFR and Norm has. This will make you a little beefier hp wise and allow you to make a few more mistakes before dying.
Near Instant queuing even if your DPS! -
How does PVP Gear compare to Raid Gear?
Good question! Basically PVP invest heavily into Stamina over your main stat (That being Str,Agi,Int...). It also likes the Versatility Stat as well. So there is a scaling system you can use that gives approximate measurements below. Examples below are Armor, Weapons have a different ilvl, but again subtract 10ivl on avg.
ilvl 670 PvP gear is = Normal ilvl 670 = PVP ilvl 715 = Raid ilvl 660
ilvl 700 Pvp gear is = Normal ilvl 700 = PVP ilvl 730 = Raid ilvl 690
ilvl 705 PVP gear is = Normal ilvl 705 = PVP ilvl 735 = Raid ilvl 695
**Note: Now the ilvl doesn't actually change when you go to a Raid this is just a guide to make sure you don't bite off more then your gear can chew...**
We generally lose 10 ilvl because the stats are more heavily aligned to survival.
Now many may disagree, but for budding raiders I think extra Stamina isn't a bad thing at all.
So who can level up through PVP?
Anyone! Just get in the spec you want and go PVP be it Healer, Raid, Melee DPS, Magic Dps, Ranged DPS, ect... There are caster gear, Tanking Gear, DPS gear, ect... we need tanks to tank the Bosses in PVP for some of the modes and tank gear can be very effective. We always need healers, and we can't win without DPS. Bring it on!
My Experience
I started at level 100 with 3 Warlord Crafted items (2H Axe, Chest, Legs) and started doing BG's and Asharan It was all of 2hrs I had had 3 pieces of 670 gear and 2 pieces of 625 gear drop for me and could afford to buy another 670 piece. My ilvl was soaring! It wasn't long before a Warforged 2h Mace ilvl 676 dropped and I really got into the *Swing* of things! You just need to get out there and do your best you will get the points you need.
Ok you got me where do i Start?
Preperation
At level 91 - no kidding! Grab you a nice 91 warlords crafted weapon (no matter your spec) and do a occasional BG to prep for hitting level 100. The Goal is to rack up close to 4000 Honor by the time you hit level 100 (that's the cap btw) so that you can buy 1-3 pieces of ilvl 670 gear as soon as your level 100 to get a jump on things!
What should I buy First?
Trinkets... Why? Because there is
a Set Bonus for getting both pvp trinkets (any of the 2) that gives you a 15% damage Reduction. It also Gives you the the insignia that you can use to break out of snares/ect..
The Only Exception is if you don't have a Warlords Crafted Weapon or Equivalent then i'd opt for a weapon. I only suggest a 1 or 6 weapon here as were going for PVP then Heroic Raiding next as far as weapons go. Now this applies too Everyone! Healers get a large Spell Power Bonus, DPS get a higher DPS rating, and Tanks get more dps/more armor/block for sword/board.
So these 3 things (Trinket 1, Trinket 2, Weapon) are a good start for all.
What should I buy Next?
After you get a weapon/Trinkets worked out you have 2 options.
If all your current gear that you havn't upgraded yet is about the same thing start with higher stat items first
Chest/Legs/Shoulder > Gloves/Belt/Feet > Rings/Wrist/Necklace
**Note: I upgraded Trinket 1, Trinket 2, Weapon(s), Chest And Legs The reason was I wanted the Freedom Trinket, I wanted the Trinket Set Bonus, I wanted mas my damage/healing, and Then I wanted the Chest/Legs Set Bonus. This is a good method for almost everyone. **
The only thing I might differ on is When i hit level 100 I had a couple rings that were 475 ilvl much lower then my other gear so I replaced them earlier on. Just look at what gives you the most stats and use that first to quickly stat up for PVP.
The Thing I bought just dropped!!
Ohh boy this will happen a lot! I buy a pair of Shoulders ilvl 670 and it drops 3 times in one night from Dented Strongboxes for winnings Bg's or Events in Asharan lol. Well good news here is you have 2hrs to return something you bought to the vender and sell it back! So my advice is when you replace something don't sell the old one until that timer runs out then you can vendor it.
You can also do the Loan program (Buy ilvl 670 gear for 1250/1500 honor) and pvp in it to only come back and sell it back under the 2hr limit so you can build more honor to buy something bigger) I don't advise this it's far to much work to keep track of it all.
Very Important to keep a eye on gear that drops from boxes so you don't overlook something thats Warforged will be better (albeit only 6 ilvl's but hell better is better!) then what you have!
How to Farm Honor/Conquest
Battle Grounds -
These are good way to start when you hit level 100. The Upscaling mechanic will give you a better chance at being competitive, but keep in mind it's NOT perfect :) You get points for kills/assisting kills/ being near someone who got a kill, you also get good rewards for close loses, and honor & conquest points for wins.
Asharan -
There is 2 weekly quest for Asharan that you get. The first
ask you to get 200 kill credits (again credits so you
don't
need the killing blow) for 200 Conquest Points and the second one is
which is win 4 events and kill the faction leader. Now this one gives you 500 Conquest points + a Nice Crate that can contain Versaility Gear ilvl 700 in it. So no matter your ilvl do these 2 quest each week. Once you complete these you can do the repeatable quest for 500 conquest each time
Thats 500 conquest each time, but this can be frustrating to complete with Asharan Groups so starting out I would try to get the weekly ones done and concentrate on BG's more.
Arenas -
When you start getting a decent ilvl say 670ilvl + I would start thinking of doing arena's with a friend or partner. You might lose some, but wins will grant you Conquest points and you can run arena's all day long if you need too. This will help you get conquest to take your gear from the ilvl 670 mark up to ilvl 700 mark.
Missions -
Yes you will get missions for followers from time to time to earn 200 Honor. Knock these out for some easy honor!
Garrison Stadium -
Building the Garrison stadium allows you to collect "bones" from Asharan when you kill people and turn them in to gain honor and honor gear.
World PVP -
By being on a PVP serve or turning on your PVP Tag /pvp you can attack people in the open world and if you kill someone you gain honor as well. Note if your on a PVP server this is pretty much on in most areas, and if your not then you can only attack other pvp flagged people.
I have all my Honor gear is Honor points useless?
Ahh now you can goto Org/SW and buy Heirloom items from the PVP Vendor (not all sold here) and more importantly buy Hierloom lvl 90 upgrades with honor. (level 100 ones cost conquest pts)

It's thorough... maybe too thorough. A long wall of text. You could really cut down on the amount of wording used. That said, there is a handful of structure, grammatical, and spelling errors. You reference many things (quests, items, etc.) here, but don't provide any links to them. Images help too. What or who are we looking for? You pointed out a loophole in the vendor return system. You shouldn't do that.
You can also do the Loan program (Buy ilvl 670 gear for 1250/1500 honor) and pvp in it to only come back and sell it back under the 2hr limit so you can build more honor to buy something bigger) I don't advise this it's far to much work to keep track of it all.
That's abusing the game and not what it was intended for. Then you go on to say you don't advise it... well don't mention it.
I completely get where you are coming from, and this is an optional route for some. But not ALL players should gear this way as you imply. Guides should be very neutral and
suggest
, not tell players how to play the game. Tell them what they can do. Show them how. And leave the rest out.

Good guide! Though I should say that it could use a bit of grammar and spelling fixes. For example, it's spelled Ashran, not Asharan. Other than that, it definitely encouraged me to do some PvP!

You don't seem to know what the easy ways to get high level gear are without PVP.
1. Treasures
2. Drops from rares
3. Baleful items
Basically, at 100, I got a map of the treasures and rares and the guide here on Wowhead, and just flew around and picked up tons of free gear, all 650+. Since I have the Dwarven Bunker, I got some a larger percentage of free epic upgrades.
Joined the Kazzak raid (no iLevel requirement) and got an iLvl 705 piece (not guaranteed to drop unfortunately, but got a bonus roll through my Dwarven Bunker again.
So, no PVP, no dungeons....
Average iLvl is 650.

The guy spent a lot of time giving us hints. pathways and help. A lot more than your post...
1. "That's abusing the game and not what it was intended for. Then you go on to say you don't advise it... well don't mention it." - ACTUALLY - If it's allowed in the game engine, then exploits are simply brilliant playing.... may or may not be a bug, it could be software operating as designed. Certainly not your call.
2. "You pointed out a loophole in the vendor return system. You shouldn't do that" - ACTUALLY - If it's allowed in the game engine, then exploits are simply brilliant playing.... may or may not be a bug, it could be software operating as designed. Certainly not your call.
3. "It's thorough... maybe too thorough. A long wall of text. " - ACTUALLY - Man, if you didn't want to read the post, don't. I read every word.
4. "Guides should be very neutral and suggest, not tell players how to play the game. Tell them what they can do. Show them how. And leave the rest out." - ACTUALLY - Who made you the guide police?
