Welcome to Wowhead's guide to Adapting to Battle for Azeroth's pre-patch guide as a Unholy Death Knight. Patch 8.0 brings a lot of changes from BFA to the world of Azeroth and this guide is made to make sure you are prepared for all upcoming changes. This guide gives you an overview of all the changes happening with patch 8.0 for Unholy Death Knight.
This pre-patch page is intended to help you know the changes to Unholy Death Knight during the pre-patch. Note that during pre-patch, while artifacts
no longer work

yet, meaning this isn't the final picture for specs in BFA. However, we still retain the powers from legendaries, which will continue working

Core Changes from Legion to BFA
Changes From Legion to Battle for Azeroth
Artifact weapons have been replaced by a more centralized upgrade system in the
艾泽拉斯之心
, which will unlock specific abilities on Helm, Chest and Leg slot equipment.
Legendary Items have been retired.
Along with the retirement of artifact weapons, many of the abilities they once granted have also been removed. The list of removed abilities is below.
Several new abilities and talents have been added to make up for these removed abilities. (Full List below)
Ability Changes for Battle for Azeroth
Removed Active Abilities
As all of our abilities granted from our Artifact,

were passive abilities, this has resulted in us not losing any active abilities we had throughout Legion. As will be mentioned again, the only active ability, Apocalypse, has been added to our baseline kit, with changes mentioned below. We also, notably, lost

Removed Abilities
We have lost several meaningful passive abilities. All of the artifact passives have been lost or converted to baseline abilities, but the notable exclusions are as follows:

Most of the other passive abilities being simply passive damage upgrades, will not be very notably missing or have been simply baked into those abilities, but the stat squish makes most of the other passives moot, as they do not affect resource generation or the effects of abilities or pets.
In terms of talents, some have been removed, or sent to new Tiers, or had their effects reworked. Talents that were removed include:

We do have some new talents in Battle for Azeroth, and some old talents have been reworked or moved to new places.

War Mode
Another change from Legion into BFA is the addition of
War Mode
. War Mode is a new World PvP system in the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, along with the new Honor system and Honor Talents. You are now able to toggle War Mode while in a capital city to gain access to PvP Talents in the outdoor world as well as other bonuses, like increased rewards from World quests and 10% extra experience. The downside is that you will always be in PvP combat mode, with the rewards counterbalancing that risk.
Changes to the Global Cooldown (GCD) for Unholy DK
The Global Cooldown, or GCD, is a short lockout period which controls the rate with which abilities can be used; spells that are on the GCD are unable to be used simultaneously, while only abilities off the GCD can be used at the same time or during that lockout period. The global cooldown starts at 1.0 second for energy resource classes, and 1.5 seconds divided by haste for all others.
In Battle for Azeroth, many abilities which used to be off the GCD are now controlled by it. For Unholy DK the abilities affected by this change are:

Returning Legendary and Artifact Effects
In Battle for Azeroth, many old artifact traits and legendary effects from Legion were turned into talents and baseline abilities. It is known that we will lose our Artifacts
in a future event
. To add to that, Legion legendaries
will stop working at level 116

Artifact Impact
Due to the changes made to talents and abilities themselves, we are largely unaffected by the loss of our artifact. It changes virtually nothing about our rotation, other than Dark Arbiter, the talent which took over a tremendous chunk of our damage in the latter part of Legion, now being gone. Summon Gargoyle is a pale imitation, and is not nearly as overwhelmingly powerful as its predecessor, making the final tier of talents much less of a non-contest. The only major blow comes to our resource generation, as our artifact offered us quite a few passive bonuses to rune generation, as well as small bonuses to runic power caps and generation which have not been accounted for in new abilities.
There is not much we can do to adjust for this currently, but time will tell. This may mean that Haste is a much more important stat in Battle for Azeroth than it was in Legion, but there is no conclusive finding as to whether this is the case or not just yet.

Surrounds you in an Anti-Magic Shell for 5 sec, absorbing up to 1] magic damage and preventing application of harmful magical effects. Damage absorbed generates Runic Power.

Cause a target corpse to explode in a shower of gore. Does not affect mechanical or elemental corpses.
Name changed from Corpse Explosion to Corpse Exploder
黑暗援助
When you kill an enemy that yields experience or honor, your next Death Strike within 20 sec is free and its healing is increased by 100%.heals for an additional 10% of maximum health.

Increases movement speed by 15%.For 8 sec, your movement speed is increased by 30%, you cannot be slowed below 100% of normal speed, and you are immune to forced movement effects and knockbacks.
Passive: You cannot be slowed below 70% of normal speed.
Cooldown changed from None to 45 sec cooldown

Pours dark energy into a dead target, reuniting spirit and body to allow the target to reenter battle with 60% health and 20% mana.

Azerite Traits
NEW
Casting Defile/Death and Decay impales enemies with bone spikes, inflicting 47 Physical damage and healing you for 125 per enemy.
Death Strike heals for an additional 1.0 sec of damage taken, and Death Strike deals an additional 231 damage.
NEW
When you use Death's Advance, gain 0 Speed for 15 sec. The cooldown of Death's Advance is reduced to 40 seconds.
NEW
Anti-Magic Shell absorbs 77 additional damage and its duration is increased to 6 seconds.

Festering Strike applies a pustulent lesion that will burst on death or when damaged by Scourge Strike, dealing (106%20% of Attack power) Shadow damage and generating 3 Runic Power.
Stacks up to 6 times on any target.

Your blood freezes, granting immunity to Stun effects and reducing all damage you take by 20%30% for 8 sec.

Every 1 sec, if any enemies are standing in the Defile, it grows in size and increases your Mastery by 14, stacking up to 10 times.
While you remain within your Defile, your Clawing Shadows/Scourge Strike will hit all enemies near the target.
If any enemies are standing in the Defile, it grows in size every sec.

StrikeRip out an enemy's soulfor 371% Shadow damage, afflicting them with Soul Reaper for 5 sec.
Bursting a Festering Wound on an enemy, dealing Shadow damage over 8 sec.
If the enemy that yields experience of honor dies while afflicted by Soul Reaper grants 7% Haste for 15 sec, stacking up to 3 timesyou gain 10% Haste for 8 sec.

Tier 4 Talent

Honor Talents

Places a dark ward on an enemy player that persists for 12 sec, triggering when the enemy next spends mana on a spell, and allowing the Death Knight to unleash an exact duplicate of that spell.Against nonplayers, only absorbs some harmful spells.

All enemies within 10 yards slowly decay, losing up to 3% of their max health every 2 sec. Stacks up to 5 times. Lasts for 6 sec.

Ghouls summoned by Army of the Dead leap together to form a single ghoulish monstrosity.
Reduces the cooldown of Army of the Dead by 4 min.

A vicious strike that deals 100%(16.4424% of Attack power) Plague damage, and converts 1 Festering Wound into a Necrotic Wound, absorbing the next (900225 / 100 * Attack power) healing received by the target.

When your Virulent Plague is dispelled or ends its duration, a Slime spawns dealing (1000%) Plague damage and slowing all enemies within 8 yardsVirulent Plague now erupts for 400% of normal eruption damage when dispelled or it expires. Targets struck by this eruption have their movement speed reduced by 50% for 36 sec.
The Slime lasts for 8 sec.

Clawing Shadows, Scourge Strike grants your Ghoul 5 energy, and Clawing Shadows, Scourge Strike deals an additional 231 damage.
