Ok, for those that don't know about mages, this ring is the perfect ring for mages, warlocks and that's about it. +spell dmg and crits are the only thing that actually upgrades us to do more dmg. Unlike rogues, hunters, and warriors... there's a limit to how much dmg we can do with spells. (example. rogues can up their dmg from their weapons and such, mages can only do about 500 dmg with frostbolts. with this ring, it ups our dmg with frostbolts to 533.) This is the only type of item that'll up a mage/warlocks spell dmg, more intellect/stamina/spirit aren't gonna do crap if we can't even kill them. I have this ring along with other +spell dmg and I arcane explode for 400 dmg average. it's original dmg is 249-270 dmg. You guys now see how +spell dmg can add up and can be very good. This ring can only be useful for mages and warlocks since all our spells are based on dmg. I don't see it be any use for any other class because there are better +healing rings for healers that have stats.

ok for all of the fools outthere that say just because something has +dmgand healing it makes it an imidiate hybrid ring... find me a ring no wait AN ITEM that does +spell dmg and not healing with it. Not just fire or frost or arcane ect, but SPELL DMG. Bet u 500g u wont find one. And ive never seen a priest attack in MC other than SW:P so i could argue that healers are only using half of its functionaily.
I would shoot someone for two of these beasts, quite a large upgrade from 2 freezing bands.

Anyone who believes +33 Spell damage to a ring is useless, you obviously dont compare stats on armor much. Rings are minor parts of your equipment. where have you seen +33 spell damage to an armor piece? Robe of Volatile power gives 23 spell damage, some Stamina, Int, and spirit, and 2% to Crit with spells. Other armor doesnt get any higher than +30 spell power, but they usually have stats on them. The stats on rings aren't usually that high in the first place.
Also for those who believe the +33 spell power from gettin just one ring is useless, they dont take into account what all the other +spell power stats from the other pieces of armor you got add up to. So far i have +150 spell power without ToEP. Soon i will get Ironbark staff - +41 spell power (+71 with enchant) and hopefully 2 of these rings (2x33). That would be about +138 spell power extra for me. +238 total damage to spells that are 3.5 sec. to cast or longer. Of course most of the spells i use are 1.5 seconds or instant cast so you figure a little under half is used which is around +110 spell power and +220 damage crits from Ruin (+165 without talents). Searing pain with talents for me right now has a 19% chance to crit only cause i have very few % to crit items and does 240-270 damage, adding 120 damage to this is 350-380 damage and 700-760 on a crit. I usually use all fire moves with Curse of Elements on my target so i sometimes get vulnerability bonus and i use ToEP to crit for around +1k damage with searing pain, but thats beside the point o_O.
Anyways back on track, +spell damage does a lot more for you than most people want to believe. Even though it says "Up to" it doesnt make it a gimped. Just hafta remember the value of the armor piece as well.

Ok, first of all I think it's important to know that these item say "increase damage and healing done by magical spells and effects
by up to...
". So the max you will get from this ring is only +33 and more than likely most of the time you will not get the full +33. There is an equation listed earlier that came pretty close when I double checked it with my mage.
Having said this I strongly believe +dmg is the way to go for an effective mage. I have just recent got this ring which puts my dps gear at
(up to) +405 spell dmg
. I am a frost farming build and my Frost bolt usually does 820-880 dmg. My highest crit with FB is 2332 according to Recap.
It's true that with only my own int buff I have 6163 mana and 2860 HP. However, when running MC and getting all the other buffs this puts me at exactly the right amount of mana and HP. Plus when in BG I can survive pretty well 1v1 against any other class. When you have 2 epic war rushing you at the same time, another extra 1000 HP or 1000 mana won't save you unless you're just that lucky.
By the way, just from inspecting other mages it is possible to get another +100 more spell dmg or so than what I currently have.

Picked this up for my warlock last night from Luci. I plan on waiting for a Band of Dark Dominion as well from BWL, whenever that drops. You lose out on some stats, but for a pure DPS build this ring is nice.

I think it is worth noting that for a fire mage the DoT from crits can stack. So if I crit with my Fireball it will tick twice at 2 second intervals. Another crit within that 4 second duration will extend the duration of the DoT.
Supose you land a fireball crit for 1500, that will tick twice for 300 each time. Supose I'm spamming fireballs and the next fireball lands 3 seconds later and it also crits for 1500. In between the first and second fireball there is a 300 point DoT tick, but then there are two more DoT ticks each of 600.
Now you may be thinking 'oh but what are the chances of getting two crits in a row?'. Well if I have a 25% crit chance then the chances are 25% that the nuke after a crit is another crit (once in eight nukes you'll get this sequence). This can make it very worthwhile to stack the crit chance on a fire mage, just as it is for a destruction warlock.
This has application in both PvP and PvE especialy if you make strategic use of fireblast and scorch to try and extend your DoTs. For a fire mage at least this offsets the diminishing returns that you usualy get with crit gear (i.e. if I have a 25% crit chance then the next point of crit is only really 0.75 of a chance to crit).

Thaylen what you say makes sence BUT the 1.5 casting speed gets less than half of the bonus. For Scroch's speed the bonus to each scroch would be about 13 or 14. Fire ball would get the full 33 bonus.
Oh and btw, I am a frost mage with 2 Freezing bands, and I'd kill for these rings .... oh wait I AM killing actually :p I am complete +dmg geared with up to +192 damage in my Mana gear and up to+315 in full damage gear. Either way I hardly run out of mana in MC.

No mana problems even with 5800 mana in full damage gear and with all the buffs you get in MC no real problem with survivability soo with 2 of these babies boosting my damage by up to 22 more I'd be very happy

^ this guy above has it all figured out, listen to him.
I just got this ring tonight and it's brilliant. The increase in damage is noticeable, every mage should roll on it. Even if you have to spend all your DKP go for it, you'll get them back eventually anyway and you'll do a lot more damage for now :)
Edit: I can understand that priests who would rather do damage than healing will want this ring (who can blame them, watching health bars is petrifyingly boring). The thing is, this ring makes more sense
more of the time
to a mage or warlock. While this ring might benefit you in PvP, the distribution of loot in raids should, IMO, be performed in such a way that it benefits the whole raid and your guild's progression.
The only way I can see a priest getting this ring for non-raid purposes is if your guild is already geared out in T1+ and have MC on farm status.
In the meantime you'll have to endure watching mages and warlocks looting this ring over and over.
But
, it also means more overall DPS in raids which equates to faster killing and possibly less drama in the end.

in combo with other +dmg items, it is good for my dot in rogue vs priest. and that's it, i think. i spent 100 dkp on it (minimum) because nobody wanted it. and i think it was worth them, it is nice for 1on1.
oh i forgot: specced renew also works great with it. but this one

only a fool would say that the ring I've linked to, bursts your dps more than this one..
*the longer cast time you've got for a spell the more it benefits from the +dmg

You're all bloody idiots! Priests who compare this with +healing items - idiots! Mages who say this isn't good for ANY reason - idiots! People who say crit is better than dmg - idiots!
Do the bloody math. Calculate how much damage per mana pool you will output. If you have 9k mana and output the same damage as a dmg mage with 6k mana, what the hell good is that? My frostbolt does an average of 710 and i've only got easily obtainable blue items so far. My mana pool will output roughly 30k damage. Let's see any int mage top that.

I play a shaman and i'm quite happy with the ring. True enough, it didn't cost me too much dkp either. Especially if you're not doing MC long yet, this ring is a very nice replacement for some green one i had.

I find ring handy for healing with as well as spell damage for Druids
Nothing like added spell damage to moonfire spam for pvp battle's and seening mages complan about damage thats been done on hord side or duels ^^

I originally wanted to go all out with +int/sta gear, including Band of Sulfuras and Seal of the Archmagus, but recently I decided that with full arcanist I should have enough mana to last through any boss in MC. I think having two of these, +30 spell damage on staff of dominance, and choker of the fire lord is a great combo for doing high damage in MC and, with full arcanist and the sta/int stats on SoD and choker, more than enough mana to last through pretty much anything. Also don't forget that full arcanist has +82 damage, so all that adds up to +252 damage.
And that's without Talisman of Ephemeral Power.

Im not really to keen on this ring. But if you are building the best plus dmg set then its good. I think a good way to gauge how good it is... is to compair it to the spell power enchant.. +30dmg to wep.
Now if you got that enchant you have to ask yourself.. would i rather have +30 on my weapon or +10stam +15int (or w/e your ring is.)
Seems like it should be more than just 33dmg. On top of that +dmg doesnt help much on instant cast spells. I have the talisman trink that increases your dmg by 175. And when casting arcane explosion, my dmg actually only goes up by about 50 when my trink is turned on.. it should be 175 imo.. so instant casts do not benefit the same way with plus dmg. And if your doing a lot of ctf intant casts is what i seem to use the most.
Anyways not all that great imo. If you are big on pve i would go for +stats... And if you are big on pvp I would go with a plus stam ring, the archmage ring is nice as well. BC to give up 100hp and 150mp for a very lil +dmg on your instant spells is kind of worthless.

Problem with these huge plus healing items, with no other good stats, is that plus heal only works to much effect if the spell is cast very very slowly.
In MC or onyxia, with many priests and CTRAID, everyone is healing the main tank with flash heals and stopping them at 81 percent or so to not waste mana (this is a very efficient way to heal main tanks)
Flash heal is a very fast casting spell and you won't see many points from renew with lots of plus healing either.
Its not totally bad to have it, as a FREEBIE, like if the item is a great priest item AND has 20 plus heal on it as well. However, all by itself its just crap. You'd get better mileage as a priest with ye old cruddy ring of whatever of the owl, eagle or perhaps a mana regen ring from dire maul or such.
What an incredibly bogus purple item.

I also hope they fix it as I got it some runs ago, spending a few dkp.
Dunno about mages but at least me, a warlock +damage freak, I get a very HIGH boost from damage items. Nowadays with my full+damage gear equipped i have about +330 bonus to shadow damage, which results in 1000-1200 non-crit shadow bolts WITHOUT SM/DS. I guess my highest crits will be around 4k(already reached that with soulfire, that non-crits for less) If i got SM/sac a succy

Any smart caster who knows the math realized how much +spell damage does for you, and that it is much better than +crit for upping your DPS. I dont see how adding a little stats would make this not "junk" to you, extra 50 life and 75 mana or something wouldnt even ding your life and mana totals.

This should have more +damage on it, or some stats. Briarwood Reed, although a trinket instead of a ring, has +29 damage on it, and is a level 56 blue drop from UBRS. This is only slightly more damage, and is a level 60 epic drop from MC. I'd say if it is going to be pure damage, it should be 40 or 45.

arcanist blows! hopefully they will buff it soon like blizz says all tier1 will get buffed but currently the best PVE build comes from lots of random +frost items that can befound very easily doing some simple instaces and finding some rare bosses (+frost sholders off BRD COFFer run) Without any MC gear my frost bolts hit up to 650 normal, Arc power crit=1875 max, THEN wiht MC mageblade TOEP AV +frost tome WG +dam bracers and ZG trink frost bolts will easily be in excess of 2700 ( this only happens when ARc power and ToEP is on, 12 sec every 3 min)
As a mage + int gear is worth less and for PVE +crit is worthless( for PVP the lucky burst damage can come in handy but i still preferr +dam) Mages should never ever ever even on the logest fights, garr golemag, run out of mana. I have like 6 ways of getting mana back (horde 5 no wisdom) rubies, robe of archmage, mana pots, mana pots from being knight, little questthingys from fel wood and of course envoation wich fills mana bar up. NEVER run out of mana ever or u should be shot

a mage/lock ring. This thing owns for mages and locks, the damage is more than most pieces of Netherwind. It doesn't matter how much int you lose in the end, mana is less important than damage.
By the way, i got mine yesterday. :D
