While I have never used this item, the spell that it triggers would suggest otherwise.
Is this item bugged?

Although i am not entirely sure if it procs on getting hit or hitting, this Chili is worth some fun imo.
It does scale in damage, first time i used it it was about 90 damage in my lvl 30s. Now it hits for around 420 and crits for 620 fire damage.
I am not sure it if scales with the level or with my damage gear. I use it on a Paladin in mid60s and 350-400 +SpellDmg.

This is a great item for Feral druids, since it's one of the few melee damage adds that actually works (they can't use weapon procs like Windfury since their melee weapon isn't technically used).
Just remember: if you jump in water, you lose the buff. Nice touch!

This meal is a lot of fun in a party, and actually does some decent damage to enemies. Worth cooking!

This Chili is awesome. I spent the time gathering ingredients and made a bunch last night. It was a total blast using it. I was breathing fire left and right. The recipe alone is worth doing cooking.

First off, interestingly enough, the chili registers as a poison. "You don't feel so well..." However, thankfully, remove poison does nothing to it. (Like all buffs, you can destroy it by right-clicking on it)
So far, 172 hits, 8 burps. But like every "random" item in the system, it's fickle. Three of those burps were on the same mob within 10 weapon strikes.
With me sitting at level 35, the chili seems to enjoy doing 61-69 damage when it hits, and it did 191 when it critted.
The stack problem has been fixed, and you can keep them in a stack now. And the effect is very... um... pretty. :) I got a few "What the heck was that?" queries from nearby folks.
Sadly, even though it is a pretty cool item, it doesn't seem to sell on the AH for anything at all. All the times I have put it up, even at 6s (twice the sell to vendor price), it's not gone at all.

I bought this recipe simply for the cooking experience... I've enjoyed using it in battle though. Although you cannot rely on it, the damage is welcome when it happens.

I sell these for 3-4g on the Auction House for a stack of 5. They don't sell well, but they do sell, if nothing else because of the novelty factor and the fact that no one else seems to make them. I'm on Stormreaver (Smallwonder --Alliance) so send me a tell if you want some. I'll even give you a discount :). Hardest part about making this stuff is getting the small flame sacs. I think I know where to get some now (dragonkin in Badlands, Wetlands) so I'll hopefully be able to make more of these in the future. It's nice to know there is at least one reasonably profitable recipe in cooking, as nothing else I can cook sells well at all on the AH.

It says you don't feel so well... After you take the spicy soup, you gain fire breath in next 10 minutes just because it's too spicy.
Remember, DO NOT jump into water after you activate the buff. You'll feel normal again. (aka the buff gone ;P)
I'm not jokin'

Me and a friend were fist fighting in ironforge, both using this, gathered quite a crowd with all the fire breathing, great item. I did notice the buff however disapears after the duel is over, even when it still has time left. Still great fun.

I've been able to sell each bowl for 1G at the AH on Burning Blade.
I'm gonna keep farming those flame sacs until I have enough gold for my mount!

I bought this on one of my toons and think its fun.. but I can't remember where I bought it and can't seem to find it again.. Anyone have the links to where the vendors that sell this recipe are? It isn't in any of the major towns. Thx

You can get this from Helenia Olden, Trade Supplies Vender (66,51), in Theramore Isle.

I remember a while back this didn't deal much damage. I used it the other day with my level 62 Paladin, and it only proc'd once in the 10 minute duration (although I wasn't fighting the entire 10 minutes), but it did well over 500 damage.
I'd rather it proc'd more often for less damage, but 500-something damage is pretty good.

just wanted to see the fire and let my mage melee for duration and never saw it. Maybe its because my mage hits like a girl (she is a girl).

100% of your Fire +Spelldmg is added to the base dmg this proc does ^_^
Let a Lv70 warrior melee till it procs then a Lv70 mage.. you'll notice quite a difference..
btw the proc is a cone AoE that hits EVERY enemy you are facing, not just the one your meleeing :)

If you simply like this because of the fire effect, search for the trinket "Thunderbrew's Boot Flask", it does the same thing but hits for 60 damage every second for 5 seconds to all the enemies in front of you, VERY useful trinket at level 40.

Ok seems that no one on here has found out how the damage is caused~ and i will tell you, whether you believe me is up to you but i know this to be true.
The damage dealt by this goes on your magic damage therefore a rogue will only do around 60 - 100 damage but if you put clothes on the rogue that gives spell damage it increases the damage of the fire breath. this could be changed by the expansion as i play in chinese server and don't have even patch 2.0 yet~
Just try it get some guildie/friend to make clothes that gives spell damage~ won't cost much and you will see the damage go high to around 500 - 700 which is cool but then i guess its more for the effects rather than the actual damage.
hope this is of some help to people

This item may still be bugged, I haven't heard any recent news, so I assume it still is.
Basically, if you have a stack and use one of them, each time it procs you will use ANOTHER chili from your stack! It is not supposed to do this.
Same bug has been reported for the Gift of Arthas potion.
EDIT: I have tested and can say for sure that if you take 1 off of your stack and make a new stack in your bag, then eat that single one, it will not cause the rest of your stack to be consumed.

The bug was fixed it seems; don't worry about keeping these in stacks, they won't disappear.
Does around ~60 damage.
Also, the tooltip reads as "You don't feel so well - Poison" but a druid spell like Cure Poison will not cancel it.
Here is a screenshot of the effects:

As a paladin using a slow weapon (currently still
Verigan's Fist
), it procs like mad - every hit with my mace gives me an extra proc from the Chili. It even looks like it occurs more often, more like every 2.5-3 seconds. AND, it has a chance to crit for double the damage, which it has done for me a few times! I had used the dish 3 times already and gotta say that it's crazy good when fighting densely populated areas like instances.
And thanks jdtschida for the tip on taking 1 off of the stack before eating to eliminate the bug.
..Now if I could only find more Flame Sacs..

This chili procs based on weapon speed. I gave a bowl to a rogue in our group. The flame never turned off (he was using daggers).

FYI, the chili effect now fades if you eat something else while buffed with it. I was wondering why it was only lasting 2 minutes until I realized that when I was low on health, and sat and ate, the effect faded. LAME!

Hits in the 60's and works like cone of frost. Procced 6 times in the 10 minutes I used it.

I love this dish. I've been harvesting dragon whelpings for the sacs regularly since i found it. it deals anywhere from 70-90 damage, and its an AOE attack. I use it with my hunter, and when i wing clip, i spin...maybe that's what makes it AOE, but, i know it can damage more than one person.

In classic the proc on this is about 3.3%
The rate is not based off weapon speed. The more you hit, the more dragonbreaths you will get.

From Reddit
Dragonbreath Chili is a level 35 food item. When consumed, it gives you a 10-minute buff with a fixed 4% chance to instantly breath fire in the direction you're facing on each melee hit. This effect deals damage in the same cone shaped area-of-effect as the Cone of Cold, which is 10 yards long. It deals 60 fire damage and gets 100% of your total +Spell Damage stat added to its proc damage.
This means that, with no +Spell Damage gear, Dragonbreath Chili adds 1.8 dps if you're wielding a 1.3 speed weapon (the fastest in the game), and 0.6 dps if you're wielding a 4.0 speed weapon (the slowest in the game). When you start using extra attack abilities, increased attack speed abilities, or +Spell Damage gear, the numbers increase accordingly.
Dragonbreath Chili stays active alongside other food-related buffs. It also gets removed if you go underwater with the buff on, which, although very fitting and immersive, can still cost you a lot of money. Unfortunately this also occurs when you take a dive into lava or other liquids, such as the sludge in the sewers of the Undercity.

Don't see anyone mentioning it but, there must be a recent hidden change to it because the buff started falling off before the 10min duration. (no I didn't go for a swim)
Of course Blizzard CS sent me here instead of actually doing anything about it.
