I respec'd from Shadow to Disc/Holy a couple weeks ago because my guild was starting to do MC and ZG. I do admit.. I'm the weakest PVP char now, and to win in fights means I'm completely on my game and making every right move. In this respect, I regret the respec, and am jealous of the shadow priests.
However.
Before I made the change, I was making the same argument that a lot of you are - that as a shadow priest I could heal just as well as a Disc/Holy (or very closely.) Sorry guys, that's not correct. I admit the supplemental healing from VE is a nice touch, but to be honest, how long can you hold up that DPS? High DPS doesn't count in a boss fight as much as consistency, which shadow priests are lacking. Your mana pool dries up too fast.
Don't get me wrong, I love shadow priests. Any instance below ZG, you guys are fantastic. I just think you should be realistic and admit that while you rock in pvp, your healing really isn't on the same level as a Disc/Holy spec.

I have a shadow priest, and always hsve had no trouble keeping up with holy/dicpline priests, plus shadowform is awesome for PvP..AS of now there is nothing wrong with being a high level shadow priest in instances. After the new priest updates we'll see.

Also got the Primal Hakkari for the belt but I need honored for that, then revered/exhauted for shoulders and trinket etc....
Doe's anyone actually have a opinion about the set / set pieces or we just gonna moan about priests wanting to enjoy playing fun shadow instead of what-a-mole holy?

I love when people brag about how kick ass thier build is. Lets face it... any good player can beat any other player no matter how they did their talent trees. Everyone can say how they will pawn some other class all they want to, but lets face it... you take the best players from all the servers and I am sure you will lose to another class just as much as you will beat them. Really, get over it and just let people spec how they feel comfortable playing.

With the 5-yard extra range from the 3-piece bonus of this set, and the 6 yards from talents, you can have a
41 yard range Smite and Holy Fire!
Holy crap! That would own for PvP so much, you can just stand out of range of everyone and SMITE!

I've spent half an hour reading and I still don't know what's the general opinion on the set.
The game is perfect in one way. There is no master of all trades. You are a priest that wants to do DPS, you must sacrifice healing. It's just that simple. A 10% gap in healing power from Shadow to Holy is huge. Do not trivialize it. That means, in some cases, a few thousand points of damage and several rez.
I do not hate Shadow priests. I think their vampiric helps a lot Holy priest to maintain a good rythm. But a ZG run with two shadow priests and one holy is seriously (-10% healing x2) lacking while the oposite set up could be quite succesfull.

i played a shadow priest to 60 and said the same thing as all of you; that ive been to MC and can heal just as good as a holy priest if not better. i just changed to a holy/dis spec and i have to tell you you cant do as well, when every thing is going great and the mobs are steady you will do great its when you get an add and the #$%^ hits the fan that you notice the biggest difference. its not even just an add ive noticed a huge difference in clear time with groups and instances, your heals are bigger and cost less mana, but im still a shadow priest inside lol

I am rather new to this game but building a Spec/Shad. I am called on constantly for groups and have never had complaints about healing them--not to even mention the damage I deal on my own. With the gear that is out there, we shadow priest will rock hard core.
3 transcendence(wrist,belt,gloves)for that awsome 15 mana regen.
4 Oracles (pants, head, shoulder, feet)for all that damage and heal and mana regen.
Pick up that beautiful robe of the Guardian.
That Staff of Augar for 143 to healing and 15 mana
That Wand Thoughtblighter for mana regen.
Then get your All-Seeing Eye for 35 to your shield
Trinkets and rings for reduction of casting time
and mana cost and resistance.

Alright here we go, you know the rumor that is going around that rogues don't get a freaking heal in end game instances.... well it's true. Number one reason why they created the Lightwell.
So here is a Good Idea: to always pop one down ahead of battle, if a rogue gets low, he runs out battle, lightwells himself up, uses bandages, potions, whatever, and runs back into the battle to do more DPS.
Here is a Better Idea: Stick a Shadow Priest in a group of 4 rogues, tell her to Vampiric Embrace the target, DPS the snoot out of the boss with Shadow Damage, and viola! You got 4 rogues that can spend more time doing the DPS they need to do, then waste time running out of battle for the Bandages or Lightwells. Also, with good Speccing, you got the Priest getting a 75% threat reduction (25% Shadow Affinity, 20% Silent Resolve, 30% Blessing of Salvation), you got a Priest getting up to 140% Shadow damage increase, you got a Priest as a back up pure-healer incase things get bad (kinda like a Druid changes to bear to hold aggro and saves the day), you got a Priest keeping not only up with the rest of the DPS classes, but also indirectly creating more DPS by healing the rogues who are DPSing with more ease because they know they got an effect on them kinda like Renew (not to mention Power Word: Shield still works in Shadowform)!
Shadow Priest aren't "great" healers, but they keep the DPS alive and going when bosses are blasting AoEs (which really makes the job easier for those stuck-up "Holy" Priests).
In Summary Shadow Priests are:
-Great DPS
-Little Threat Producers
-Indirectly healing those who don't usually get heals (and creating more DPS for the raid)
-Allowing other healers to concentrate on more important heals
-Also a back-up healer out of Shadow Form
Personally I don't see how end-game raiders/guilds don't use Shadow Priests to their full potential.

The + healing bonus make u able to heal your pals with the lowest ranked spells.
Low rank spell = less mana ( and the effect is the same due to your healing bonus) . GG

Why are people, over 1 year into the game still arguing about this?
Shadow Priest have their versatility and even if they are unable to hold up to a holy/disc priest's standard of healing, as long as they keep their people alive, then who gives a rats. Fine, their flash heals/greater heals are sub-par, give them enough dmg/heal gear and they're great (virtous/.5 gear) is a great shadow priest gear. And if they get their hands on the AQ rep gear (ring/cape/mace), they'll fit all around.
Give them a break for crying out loud. I'll take a shadow priest anywhere. I leveled shadow and I am now specced holy and I that is now my favourite tree. As a shadow priest, I enjoyed being considered one of the better healers even in pugs. Now I enjoy doing more damage and being top of healing...It's not the spec/the gear...it's how you play...

I was hoping to see somebody discussing the impressive +healing of this set with the +mana regen of other sets like Virtuous, and the effort required to obtain each. Now I have to crunch numbers myself, when I have no idea how long it takes to get rep with ZG trolls.
If you're the 1337zorz among noobs, congratulations, do please go ahead and present your analysis regarding the topic at hand.

I'm gonna try something out of the box here...actually COMMENTING on the set.
As a Disc/Holy priest, smite and holy fire are my primary forms of offense. Not only does this set offer impressive +healing and stats, but has some very unique set bonuses. Combined with Holy Reach, you can smite/holy fire from 42 yards away. That's longer range than our heals.
The 5 piece bonus isn't quite as great...MC just isn't something we utilize that often. And besides that, you'll find yourself replacing the armor slots with transcendence as you get the chance, leaving you with the charm (If you can get it, very tedious), and the necklace which is just beautiful for healing.
Bottom line is, as a Disc/holy priest, this set is pure gold for me in PVP. 42 yard PI Smites FTW, with plenty of +healing to justify it in pve.

My opinion:
Personally, I feel the Zandalar Confessor's Raiment set is far superior to that of Prophecy. Aside from the fact that only three items overlap (which is why I only listed the overlapping elements), the ZG set provides better than twice as much additional healing as compared to the equivalent Prophecy set items, and does in fact give Transcendence a run for its money. It's true that the Transcendence three-, five- and eight-piece set bonuses are simply incredible (don't tell me priests never get hit in PvE -- I raid Naxx), but the Zandalar set items are wonderful filler until the set bonuses may be completed. Prophecy's first set bonus is forgettable, the eight-piece is very situational, and the five-piece... while nice, is still somewhat weak (unless you're an inspiration/crit priest) as it really only increases overall healing output by 1%, and often will go to waste.
The mp5 available on Prophecy *is* decent, but most priests will be forgoing mp5 for more spirit as they attain the three-piece Transcendence bonus. Priests who're absolutely dedicated to mp5 will likely be foregoing Prophecy as a set anyway, aside from the fire resist available on it (not to mention that 10 fire resist is really negligable unless you're really scrabbling for a minimum amount).
To the individuals who hate the 3- and 5-piece bonuses on the Zandalar set; you can pretend they don't exist. I enjoy using smite, holy fire and mind control spells in both PvE and PvP situations, but I will concede that it is usually for fun -- they're flavour bonuses.
Naxxramas does, of course, have an encounter designed specifically around priests mind controlling mobs to tank a boss character.
These bonuses will not prevent you from attaining the three and five-piece bonuses of either tier 1 or tier 2 and the items are also quite good for all the slots (including the neck and trinket) they inhabit. Obtaining an eight-piece bonus of any set is also really quite time-consuming anyway -- most individuals are on their way to building their next tier set, or have picked up superior or equal-quality off-set items for various slots before such circumstances are found.
In summary:
The ZG set is pretty good, with some odd (but decidedly fun) bonuses which may or may not be useful to you. The items are arguably better than tier 1 (I personally believe they are far better, but I'm also of the opinion that 94 +healing trumps +42 effective healing and 6mp5), are similar to tier 2 items in useability after considering the 2-piece ZG bonus (and the fact that 3-piece Transcendence is extremely easy to obtain, and in other slots besides!). Whether or not someone should jump at Tier 2 over ZG gear and vice-versa would really depend on the set bonuses they'd be making or breaking -- it's not hard to collect both sets anyhow, being that they come from different instances with different timers. The ZG set was also designed for a different kind of raider -- one who may be uninterested or unable to raid in 40-person situations, and whom may also enjoy employing a different spell set in different circumstances.
Off-Topic Asides:
1. ZG was originally far more difficult than MC (and I feel still is by a bit, despite being toned down every patch since release). 40 people doesn't necessarily mean that it should be twice as hard as ZG. The encounters have been scaled to a certain level of difficulty applicable to both raid sizes.
2. We do bring shadow priests into BWL, AQ40 and NX (we don't do MC anymore). Usually one is on DPS duty. Nobody cares about this "I topped blahblahblah healing charts" garbage, as how much healing you pump out depends on too many variables -- maybe you were renewing half the raid. Maybe your tank has bad gear and you have to heal more to compensate. Maybe you're just overhealing too much. Maybe some of the tanks are just DPSing most of the time, since there aren't enough creatures for them to take care of.
What does (regarding a shadow priest) matter is whether or not they're capable of healing when the situation demands it (i.e., a lot of healers are down)
, and
the fact that they're also brought as damage enablers to increase the amount of overall damage produced by the raid -- most notably, from warlocks in addition to themselves
. Shadow priests do have their (very valuable!) uses in raids, both as DPS and utility healing, but it's very unlikely that a shadow priest whom will refuses to heal will be toted along in much the same manner that a DPS warrior whom absolutely refuses to tank is also denied.
Holy is not "better" than shadow. Shadow is not "better" than holy. They do different jobs with overlapping areas. You cannot compare the two in singular situations whilst ignoring the rest.
