Introduction to Warlock in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks are the masters of the dark arts and if played correctly, can be one of the safest classes in Hardcore. They have a bunch of abilities and talents to not only make them extremely tanky, but they also have an insane amount of self healing and multiple demons that bring a TON of utility and Crowd Control to choose from depending if you want more damage, or more safety. Which will also largely depend on your spec.
Warlocks are able to choose between two of the best Hardcore specializations in the game. Affliction, with its hard hitting DoT’s and massive amount of self healing, thanks to talents like
,
,
,
and the overpowered
. Or Demonology, with its top tier and incredible survivability, thanks to talents like
,
and of course the infamous
.
Warlocks have the unique ability to apply high amounts of single target to nuke targets in the open world, or the ability to pull multiple mobs thanks to their plethora of Damage over Time abilities and a Demon to damage and tank enemies for you.
One of the best parts of a Warlock is their endless resource regeneration. Thanks to abilities like
,
,
and more, you’re able to continually pull mobs with minimal downtime, which allows for exceptional leveling speed and once mastered, you will feel unstoppable.
Best Builds and Talents for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks have two of the strongest and safest leveling specializations in the game with Affliction and Demonology. Affliction has the best sustain in the game with all of its self heals and the overpowered drain tank build, while Demonology is arguably the tankiest build in the game. Which you choose is up to you and there's no wrong pick. Destruction, sadly, is by far the worst spec for Hardcore. You will be hard casting all your spells, which you will get constant knockback on your spell casting, as well as costing more Mana, making you have to sit and drink constantly. You also lack the defensives and self healing that you can obtain from Affliction and Demonology. It's highly suggested that you never play Destruction while leveling. The safest build would put points into both the Affliction and Demonology trees, while going deeper into Demonology, as it has some talents that can be vital to your survival in Hardcore.
Best Affliction Build
This is the build that is suggested if you're going to level as Affliction. Most of your early points will be put into Affliction, besides the 5 points into
. This is extremely good as it gives you 15% Stamina, making us super tanky. The rest of the points go deep into Affliction until LV 50. After that it's wise to put the remainder of your points back into Demonology as the rest of the Affliction talents are pretty lackluster. Whereas you can put some points into
for larger heals on your Healthstones,
which gives your
召唤魅魔
more mana, meaning that you get more value from
and then
which allows you to get a fast cast on your next summon demon spell. This can be really helpful if you need to quickly pull out a
召唤虚空行者
to
it.
Affliction Warlocks are the master of DoT's and insane healing. Talents like
, and
allow you to constantly be able to keep your health to the max.
makes it so you don't get much pushback on your spells while you're
.
is great to give you mana, rather than having to
and take your own health. Affliction also has the major perk that their DoT's do 10% more damage than Demonology thanks to
, plus talents like
and also one of the most overpowered abilities in the game,
. Affliction also has the benefit of getting some extra hit rating with
and a instant casted
thanks to
. As for
, I personally don't take this talent early as I do not mind missing the occasional spell. If you die because you missed a
or a
, then you should not have been in the situation you were in in the first time. If you choose not to take
, then feel free to put point into it earlier if you want the hit.
A common name and popular way to level is called Drain Tanking. This consists simply of you keeping your DoT's on the target and then either wanding, or use
depending on if you need Health or not. Thanks to
,
and
you can consistently sit and
without any knockbacks and easily keep your health up while you tank the enemy.
As for the Affliction Demon, some choose to use
召唤虚空行者
because you'll have access to a large
, giving you a huge absorption shield. Others choose to use the
召唤魅魔
due to the higher damage potential compared to all of your other demons. The
召唤魅魔
also works best with the Drain Tanking build, as this grants a larger Mana pool you'll have access to, and since the
召唤魅魔
deals melee damage and it doesn't need to use it's mana, you gain much more value out of
.
Best Demonology Build
This is the build that is suggested if you are going to level as Demonology. Demonology is the safest build for Hardcore.
is one of the strongest talents in the game. It transfers 30% of all damage taken to your Demon, which as Demonology should be your
召唤虚空行者
making it the best defensive ability in the game. Not only that, but it also increases all damage you and your Demon deal by 3%. You're
召唤虚空行者
is the demon of choice here and he is tanky thanks to
, which increases the effectiveness of all his skills by 30%, making his taunt stronger, as well as increases the amount his
will absorb.
increases his maximum health by 15%, plus you can opt to choose
for those times you have to heal him up. One of the biggest perks of Demonology is the talents
and
, which allows you to summon Demons much faster and can come in handy for when you need to emergency double
. While your
召唤虚空行者
doesn't do as much damage as the
召唤魅魔
, you do get
to buff his damage by 20%, whic also adds to his threat. The
召唤虚空行者
also has two taunts, a single taunt called
and an AoE taunt called
. Both are buffed via
and help out a ton. Lastly, thanks to your
召唤虚空行者
,
gives both you and your
召唤虚空行者
10% reduction to physical damage taken. All of this combined makes this the safest build you could possibly be.
Demonology Warlocks are the master of demons. Sitting comfortably and safely behind your
召唤虚空行者
as you DoT up our enemies and fill in the rest with either wanding or using
depending on if you need health or not. The first 5 points go into
for that instant cast
allowing you to cast it on the move. Then the rest of the points go in to Demonology until LV 51, where you then put 5 points into
so you can gain more Health when you
. The last few points can go into either
for more damage on your
or
to minimize pushback on your spells while casting and taking damage.
Leveling Tips for Warlocks in Hardcore WoW
As soon as the game starts, take off your clothes and sell them and your food to the vendor or your Demon Grimoire vendor. This will give you enough gold to buy
献祭
at LV 1. Alternatively, you can kill 1 or 2 mobs right where you spawn and get drops from them to sell as well.
Cloth armor is ineffective in your starting zone. Sell all gray armor and choose quest rewards with the highest sale value until you leave your 1-6 zone. Vendor pretty much everything so you can buy bags early.
Use a wand. Alot. Wands are very strong in Classic and should be used the whole time you’re leveling. Put your DoT’s up and start wanding. This will help your
召唤虚空行者
hold threat more as well as save your mana in the long run
Pay attention to your 5 second rule. After you don’t cast for 5 seconds, your mana will start regening faster.
Don’t clip your DoT’s or over DoT. This wastes mana, resulting in sitting and drinking more. Example, don’t
a mob that is at 20% HP and will die in 5 sec. Or if you see that a mob is at 20% and already has an
or
on it, then let the DoT’s finish the mob off, rather than cast a
or
.
Using
火焰之雨
to split pulls mobs in a pack. Example, If you were to pull a pack of 4 normally, all 4 of those mobs would chase you until you reset the leash on all of them or killed them all. However if you use an AoE like a Grenade or
火焰之雨
, to pull all 4, then applied a DoT or wanded only one of the mobs, then the other three will unleash from you, while the one you damaged stays with you.
“If you can
恐惧
it, you can kill it!” Quite simply if you can fear it, you can DoT it up and keep it feared. Always double cast
恐惧
though, just in case the first one misses. Also, be careful with your
恐惧
. I typically only
恐惧
when it’s really needed. Fears easy to mess up and can pull mobs, aiding in your death.
will make your target stop running away. Some mobs run away when they get to low health and they can run away and accidentally pull more mobs, or the dreaded fearing of a mob that causes it to run and pull more mobs onto you. If you put
on them, they won't run! Your mob will instead continue to attack you. Use this ability constantly to help avoid the enemy pulling more mobs. You can also use it to redirect your fears. If you fear a mob and he runs towards more enemies, you can
it and then apply another curse like
to make it run away in a different, and hopefully safer, direction.
It is very important to always keep your pet on passive. This will eliminate any chances of him pulling extra mobs.
Keep all you demons spells on manual cast. You don’t want them auto casting it and wasting mana. If using
召唤虚空行者
, he will do a ton of unnecessary taunts that costs mana or he’ll blow his AoE taunt
that’s a 2 min cooldown when you might need in within 2 min.
Let your Demon tank as much as they can, without letting it die. If you’re draining tanking as Affliction, let your
召唤魅魔
take the first hit or two while you get your DoT’s up. If you want the
召唤虚空行者
to tank for you longer, never open with
.
and
are the best openers since they’re DoT’s and don't’ deal damage right away, with
being the best if you get value out of the length of the DoT since it’s damage is back loaded.
Pay attention to your Spell ranks. When your
召唤虚空行者
gets a new rank of taunt, know that he will be able to hold threat better. Or counter to that, when he’s almost to a new rank of taunt, then his old taunt is barely going to hold threat. The same goes for your spells. Fresh ranks of
and
hit very hard, so its safe to use fresh ranks more often than you would when they’re older ranks.
This is personal preference, but I don't ever use Imp in Dungeons. The
召唤虚空行者
is much safer, not only for yourself, but also because you can offtank throughout the entire dungeon, making life easier on your tank and your healer. Plus if things go south you can simply AoE taunt while things get in order. The
召唤虚空行者
has saved my groups life countless times in dungeon runs. And don't ever forget about your Voidwalkers
.
SLOW DOWN. Hardcore is about surviving, not speeding. Play slow and pull mobs 1-2 at a time. Yes, you can take on more than that, especially with the
召唤虚空行者
, but that doesn’t mean you should. Things can go from cozy, to deadly in an instant. Always be wary! The strength of a Warlock can be its downfall.
Use Fences and anything in the terrain to kite. Mobs do not take a direct path to you and they cannot jump. They will always run the long way around a fence, or up and down stairs in towers, or around pillars, houses, etc. Utilize this and DoT the enemy up and use the terrain to let you DoT's rot the enemy away or get a quick bandage off.
Leveling Difficulty of Warlocks in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks have the unique ability to apply high amounts of single target to nuke targets in the open world, or the ability to pull multiple mobs thanks to their plethora of Damage over Time abilities and a Demon to damage and tank enemies for you.
One of the best parts of a Warlock is their endless resource regeneration. Thanks to abilities like

Strengths of Warlocks in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks have extraordinary survivability.
Warlocks have insane self healing.
Warlocks have multiple demons options
Weaknesses of Warlocks in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks have absolutely no mobility.
Warlocks don't have any escape tools, like
,
假死
, etc
Warlocks need Soul Shards for some of their abilities like for all their pet summons,
,
and more.
Best Races for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW

Best Alliance Race for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW
侏儒
- Gnomes are the best race for Warlocks in Hardcore. They bring multiple very helpful racials that you will not find anywhere else. They bring one of, if not the safest racial in the game with
逃命专家
. This allows you to get out of any slows, roots and snares and can save your life. Gnomes also have increased Intellect, which is always good for casters as this will increase your mana, as well as increase your chance to crit with your spells. Not only that, but Gnomes also have increased
工程学
skill, which is very helpful since that's the best profession to be for Warlocks.
人类
- Human lacks all of the helpful racials that the Gnome has, but does have increased Spirit, which increases the regeneration rate of your Health and Mana. However this isn't too helpful for Warlocks since we have very good resource regeneration thanks to
生命分流
,
and a couple other spells.
矮人
and
暗夜精灵
cannot be Warlocks.
Best Horde Race for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW
兽人
- Orcs have 5% increased pet damage, which is nice since you will always have a pet helping you do damage. They also have spell=, which can never be underestimated as it increases your chance to resists stuns by 25%, which happens quite frequently in the open world.
亡灵
- Undead get
被遗忘者的意志
, which is a strong racial that will break you out of any fear, sleep or charm. There aren't too many times that you will get to use this while leveling, but it's really nice for the times that you do need it. Undead also have
食尸
which allows you to feast of other dead humanoid or undead and it heals you for 7% of your maximum health. This is a nice heal that you'll be able to use often. They also can breathe underwater infinitely, however not that helpful for Warlocks since you have
哀伤之触
, but can be nice until you're high enough level to get the spell. Lastly they have some added Shadow Resistance.
巨魔
and
牛头人
cannot be Warlocks.
Best Professions for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Professions are
extremely
important for not just Warlocks, but for anyone class in Hardcore. They do a range of things from providing extra damage, boosting your damage via buffs or providing you with items that can get you out of any sticky situation. When it comes to which professions are the best for Warlock, both
工程学
and
炼金术
are great. You have the option of pairing them with their gathering profession, for example
工程学
would require materials that you'd need to be
采矿
to get, and
炼金术
requires you to pick herbs via
草药学
. However you are allowed to use the auction house on the Official Hardcore server, making it exponentially easy to get the materials, if you don't want to farm them yourself. To make it even easier, you can simply choose to go
工程学
, and just buy all the potions and elixirs that
炼金术
would provide from the auction house or from trading another player with the
炼金术
profession. This allows you to get all the amazing perks of
附魔
, while still getting the perks of
炼金术
.
If you're SSF - Solo Self Found - meaning you are not using the auction house or trading, then below will be a brief breakdown on the profession pairings.
Mining and Engineering
采矿
and
工程学
is by far the best choice for Warlocks in Hardcore. The main reason is for
活动假人
, which is a usable item that will instantly redirect all threat to it, which makes all the mobs around you stop attacking you, giving you a chance to escape. It also gives you multiple levels of bombs, grenades and sappers that will not only provide you with a ton of extra damage, but also very helpful stuns. You can get some very helpful early items like
飞虎护目镜
.
Herbalism and Alchemy
草药学
and
炼金术
is a great pairing of professions, as it will allow you to make consumable potions that not only give you a burst of health in an emergency situation, but also offer considerable stat increases and the occasionally solution to a niche situation. You get potions that give you Shadow Damage, Defense, Stamina Hp5 and many more.
Tailoring and Enchanting
裁缝
is a decent profession, as it can provide you with some gear that you can craft yourself while leveling. You can also make your own bags and even some powerful + Shadow damage gear when you get high enough.
附魔
on the other hand is chosen by many Warlocks only in the early levels because you can make two very powerful wands,
次级魔法杖
and
强效魔法杖
. It's worth noting that you can buy both these wands off the auction house, as well as the crafted gear.
First Aid, Fishing and Cooking
These are all secondary professions, so you can get them without getting in the way of your two major professions. You should always be
and keep your bandages up to date. It's easy for Warlocks to get bandages off since you have a pet tanking for you.
钓鱼
and
烹饪
are great for some extra stat buffs, and you can level your
烹饪
from all the fish you fished up. However in my opinion doesn't feel worth the time sink since you have so many defensives and self heals as a Warlock.
Stat Priority Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Stamina > Intelligence > Spirit
In the case of stats, there's only one stat that aids you in survival, that being Stamina. Stamina gives you more Health, and that's all you want. Plus talents like
and
fuel off your Stamina.
increases your total Stamina by a total of 15%, and the more Stamina you have, the more this talent buffs it.
Intellect is nice, but it doesn't do too much for Warlocks. It gives you some more Mana as well as some more Crit, however most of your your damage will come from DoTs (Damage-over-Time abilities) and DoT's cannot crit. Not only that, but Warlocks have
, which gives us Mana. Combine that with talents down the road like
,
and
, you really won't have any troubles with your Mana.
Spirit is also not important for Warlocks. You should always take the talent
, as it increases your total Stamina by a total of 15%, however it also reduces your total Spirit by a total of 5%. Do not
ever
give up Stamina for Spirit.
Rotation While Warlock Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Single Target
Send pet to attack
or
**
射击
or
(depening on if you need health)
**
is the best for damage, however you can use
against melee mobs if you find yourself getting hit and taking alot of damage.**
Multi Target
When fighting 2-3 mobs, apply
,
and
to both targets and go about your single target rotation on one until they're both dead. If using
召唤虚空行者
, let him taunt and keep the mobs on him as long as he can, or let him tank one while you kill the other.
AoE
Warlocks have two AoE spells,
and
.
is more damage, however it does a lot of damage to you when you use it, as well as causes high threat, making it very dangerous to use. Be careful if you intend to use it. Otherwise just sit back in range and use
Spells to Skip While Warlock Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Warlocks have a ton of abilities and spells that they can buy. Not only that, but you also have to buy Grimoires for your pets to teach them their abilities. Luckily there is a ton of them that we DO NOT need. This is a list of the spells that you can skip buying to save you a lot of gold while leveling.
As for your Demon Grimoires, only purchase the ones for your main Demon. Example, if you're using
召唤虚空行者
, then keep its spells up to date as soon as you can, however there is no need to buy the grimoires for your
召唤魅魔
,
召唤地狱猎犬
or
召唤小鬼
. Side note, if you plan to do dungeons while leveling and will use you
召唤小鬼
in those dungeons, then buy
.
Spells to skip and not buy.
Only buy Demon Grimoires for your main Demon
基尔罗格之眼
征服恶魔
混乱烙印
末日降临
There are some spells that you only need to use Rank 1 of. Below is the list of spells that you do not need to purchase after Rank 1.
- You only use this spell to get Soul Shards.
- You only use this to control your Fears, or prevent your target from running into more mobs.
死亡缠绕
- This is used for the horrify and slight heal. The damage from the next ranks are not worth the Gold.
放逐术
- This is rarely ever used, if at all, but when it's used, it's just for the CC. No need to buy the next ranks.
Wand Progression for Warlock Leveling in Hardcore WoW
Wands are very strong for Warlocks starting out, then start falling off in the 30-40 range, where
will be more DPS than wanding. However it's important to get upgrades on your wand whenever possible as it allows you to save mana and let your 5 second rule kick in, which is when your mana will start to regen. Below is a table with all the important wand to get. You can find some of these on the Auction, while some are from dungeons.

Great guide!

Great guide! This has tons and tons of useful information. There are a few things I don't agree with and just wanted to outline them because it might save someone's life.
1. "As for
Suppression
, I personally don't take this talent early as I do not mind missing the occasional spell. If you die because you missed a Fear or a Drain Life, then you should not have been in the situation you were in, the first time." I think this is a big mistake. When you inevitably go back to town and turn in quests and ding and get that new quest the mobs might be a couple levels higher than before and still yellow but your defense stat hasn't been able to catch up putting you at risk for Crushing Blows (150% dmg if weapon and defense skill are 15 or more apart). The HC I've been playing is respawns and people running everywhere and mobs chasing them, its chaos. You won't be able to "plan your situation" this has nothing to do with skill or planning and is a fatal assumption. I absolutely want 3 ranks into
Suppression
so I never miss a fear or waste time on failed GCDs while I'm getting bashed at 150% dmg by a mob 2 levels higher than me. I want this as early as possible. We are vulnerable to reduced defense skill if we play very cautiously rarely taking dmg which brings me to point 2.
2. "Never open with
Immolate
." I disagree. ALWAYS open with immolate! If using Voidwalker it will pull threat off you almost immediately after a couple swings and first torment but you will be on edge taking threat back so just dot twice and wait for the second torment 5 seconds after the first then start wanding/drain life. You'll pull aggro eventually but not for very long and ensure you get smacked a lil leveling your defense skill. I think every build should take
improved voidwalker
talents so I don't think its worth discussing with vs not.
3. Level and purchase your Imp Skills and take
curse of tongues
and even
eye of kilrogg
to scout places before u go running into loot the thing and find 4 murlocks under murky water. We get a free mount at 40 we don't need to be that tight! Sometimes you might be out of shards and need to kill something that yields exp to get one. If your out of shards chances your out of healthstones too. So you are at your most vulnerable. I even put spare points into
Improved Imp
he can be a lifesaver and also handy when your grouping with lower level players helping them clear dangerous (for them) content.
Anywho that's my 3 cents hopefully it helps somebody. Enjoy your journey!

Hello,
Thank you very much for the guide.
I noticed two mistakes that you might want to correct (if they are indeed mistakes).
1. Under the Stat Priority section, last paragraph, you mentioned dark pact when I think you meant to mention Demonic Embrace.
2. Under the Best Professions for Warlocks Leveling in Hardcore WoW section, last sentence of the first paragraph, you mentioned "This allows you to get all the amazing perks of Enchanting, while still getting the perks of Alchemy", I think you meant to say "all the amazing perks of Engineering, while still getting the perks of Alchemy".

As a long-time warlock myself, I'd like to give my thoughts regarding this guide.
I'm going to critique going down the guide itself.
For talent order. Improved Corruption Rank 3 makes Corruption the same cast speed as a global cooldown. Even though you can't cast while moving yet, early on, those 2 talent points to make Corruption an instant cast could be used elsewhere.
Here is the talent order that I typically use, mainly observe the talent ordering:
Affliction Lvling (30/20/0)
Take this with a grain of salt, as this is my opinion.
First, Drain Life does damage and heals, which is a double dip into threat generation. It should only be used sparely. Second, since I rarely Drain Life and try to use Drain Soul (Rank 1) as the target is about to die, I believe the talents in Fel Concentration would be better suited elsewhere. Third, Amplify Curse doesn't cost mana or a global. For a 3-minute CD, it is worth taking. Fourth, I find Improved Drain Mana useful for situations when I am dealing with a mob that heals. DoT it up, Drain Mana and it still does the same amount of wand damage, and if it isn't interrupted you gain mana, don't forget to Curse of Tongues it as well! Fifth, Fel Domination at level 23 instead of at 53 is huge. Don't underestimate this ability, as it can save you. The cheaper and faster summoning of a Voidwalker can mean life or death. Sixth, I left the last talent free to give the option of either Dark Pact or Demonic Sacrifice. Either way, you will most likely be respeccing at 60 anyway. Seventh, just because Nightfall procs doesn't mean you should instantly use it. Consider using it to finish off a mob or if the mob is already attacking you instead of your pet. Eighth, Curse of Exhaustion is just a utility I use when a mob runs back to me after a fear, do as you wish with this talent or talent point. Lastly, Improved Drain Soul... This is vital to keep your mana up either mid-fight of multiple mobs or utilize it with cheap water after leaving combat. I can go from 20% mana to almost full with level 25 water while in my 40's while the buff is active. This decreases your downtime. Unfortunately, you will have to manually delete extra shards because Blizzard removed the ability to delete items via addon or macro. Shame on you Blizzard... We need an in-game setting where we can set the unique amount of shards ourselves...
For the Demonology spec mentioned in the guide, PvP is either accidental (some PvP-activated NPCs will attack you if you get too close to them, at least the Stonard Explorers did in Swamp of Sorrows for when I was there. I didn't attempt or risk it with Rexxar while I was in Desolace), user error (running into the opposite faction's town because you forgot), or consensual PvP thus, Soul Link to me is pointless.
As for Immolate, when you start with instant cast DoTs, ask yourself if you want your hard work to be stolen by a mage with Fireblast... Before I get Siphon Life, I always start with Immolate if I know others are around. You don't want to be like that warlock in
WoWitsHard
's video
WoW Classic Leveling
. I'll come back to this topic later when I mention Searing Pain.
When buying grimoire rank books for your pets. You can min-max this by buying only the max rank grimoire for the Imp, Succy, and Fel Puppy. This will save you gold in the long run. The only pet you should upgrade is the Voidwalker unless you prefer using a different pet. I've seen several warlocks during my hardcore leveling rocking the Succy. To me, you lose out on that "oh crap" VW bubble that could be used. Also sac that VW if you know it will die!
Regarding the spells to skip. Keep Drain Mana on that list if you go with Improved Drain Mana. Eye of Kilrogg is great for quickly exploring an area without risking time and effort. Sense Demons is fine, get it unless you go mining or herbing. Subjugate Demon (formally known as Enslave Demon) can be useful. Curse of Tongues is useful when the caster hits like a truck (like those Azshara Blood Elves). Personally, I like the higher ranks of Death Coil and Banish. There's no need to be stingy on those since we get our first mount for free. Sidenote: while leveling, I'd pass on Curse of Weakness (waste of mana without enough physical damage reduction, kill it faster or don't kill it at all), Hellfire (no more death skips or Dire Maul side entrance skips for me :C), Drain Soul (Rank 2+, utilize with Improved Drain Soul for more mana. Don't forget the 5-second rule if you are in combat! If you use the default frames and Weakauras,
Player mana regen
), Shadow Bolt (once getting a wand but continue training once getting Nightfall talent), Searing Pain (Rank 2+, rank 1 is useful when tagging mobs before others plus it is a slightly faster cast than Immolate).
Wands, I highly recommend to pass on any dungeons. This is just me, but I have yet to go into a dungeon because I don't want to risk the chances of having one dumbhead in the group. Also, if your new wand changes to a different spell class (frost, arcane, ..), keep your previous wand. Sometimes, rarely, you will encounter mobs immune to your wand damage.
The lack of giving some macros is disappointing. But, I will give two of my most valued macros.
PetMove
:/petattack
/petpassive
/petstay
/petfollow
/petattack
The PetMove macro has been priceless. If your pet doesn't have a target, it goes after your current target, if it does have a target it goes passive. Shift causes it to stay, Ctrl causes it to follow. When hovering over a target, regardless of the first two lines, it attacks your mouseover target. I made this macro back just before classic released and also used it when I played a hunter.
VoidSum
:#showtooltip Summon Voidwalker
/cast Sacrifice
/cast Fel Domination
/cast Summon Voidwalker
Back in OG vanilla you could summon your pet and your previous pet would be stunned however you could sac it before the cast was complete. But now, when you have a pet out and start casting a summon pet spell, your pet will instantly disappear. This way regardless of if you are summoning a new VW so you don't have to wait for it to get health or mana, you will benefit from that pet bubble.
Ooph, grats if you made it all the way down here! Didn't think I had that much to mention.
Good luck, stay safe, and have fun with your Warlock Hardcore experience!

An excellent guide. One error regarding the undead: "They also can breathe underwater infinitely, however not that helpful for Warlocks since you have Underwater Breathing,". Undead cannot breathe underwater indefinitely. It is 300% of the regular time in classic.

Minor typo in the sentence below. You say Dark Pact, but clearly mean Demonic Embrace
You should always take the talent Dark Pact, as it increases your total Stamina by a total of 15%, however it also reduces your total Spirit by a total of 5%. Do not ever give up Stamina for Spirit.

You absolutely don't take improved curse of agony talent. 6% extra damage does jack @#$%. Take those off and relocate.

Every Lock or Hunter should make a habit of running back to Northshire Abbey , rounding up tons of low level and let them beat on you to level your defense skill. Much more efficient and safe than intentionally taking hits from same level.
Regarding Immolate as an opener.. Every time I use this as an opener, my vw loses aggro immediately and cannot regain and you end up tanking the mob. This is with 3 points in improved vw as well. You get a new taunt every 10 levels and it works better for about 3 levels after getting it. I have much better luck opening with CoA since it starts damage slow, then Siphon Life (if specced) , Corruption, then Immolate.. You can usually get full use of the spell timing as well , except siphon life with is over 30 seconds.
