Taken from
WoWwiki
:
Long before the Great Sundering, the five dragonflights - red, blue, bronze, green and black - were charged with watching over the budding world of Azeroth. Sindragosa was the beloved consort of the blue dragon Malygos, also called the Spell Weaver, guardian of all arcane magic. With the help of goblin servants, Neltharion created a powerful artifact called the Dragon Soul. He convinced his dragon brethren to empower the disk, claiming it would thwart the impending invasion of the demonic Burning Legion.
However, Neltharion betrayed his dragon allies during the Legion's assault, provoking a apocalyptic battle in the skies over the Well of Eternity. Malygos and Sindragosa joined the blue dragons in surrounding the Earth Warder. They charged the black dragon... But Neltharion used the might of the Dragon Soul to strike out, decimating nearly all of the blue dragonflight. The blast hurled Sindragosa far across the land, deep in the the frozen north.
Blinded and near death, Sindragosa sought desperately to reach the Dragonblight, the place were dragons instinctively travel to die. No longer able to fly, Sindragosa plummeted to the cold earth in the region of Icecrown. The blue dragon gathered what remained of her energy and called out to Malygos for aid. Her only answer was the howling arctic wind as she struggled on, but the distance was far too great; agonizingly she realized that her spirit would not find rest with the Dragonblight. Her life continued to fade away as her sanity deteriorated.
In the midst of her delirium, Sindragosa's final thoughts turned to bitterness and hatred: hatred against the Legion, hatred against Neltharion, hatred even against Malygos. But most of all, hatred against the world of mortals.
And in her dying moments... Sindragosa vowed revenge.
- At this time it is not know if you will 'have her between your legs' (if she will drop a mount like Onyxia) but I would not hold my breath.

This is the second to last boss (unless you fight Frostmourne itself after defeating Arthas) in the new Icecrown Citidel raid.

We've been using an interesting, and quite potent strategy (although you do need to have a feral druid tank). Simply the druid picks up the 4 pieces of frost resist, which combined with an aura from a paladin makes 485 resist. Try to run with as few healers as possible, 2 in 10, 4-5 in 25 and make sure your DPSers aren't being idiots about stack clearing.
Now, the druid eats everything, frost breaths, blistering colds, everything. The frost breath debuff is considered a slow, and thus is removed by the druid changing forms, so as Sindragosa casts blistering cold, they need to jump out of then back into bear form, removing it. As phase 3 hits, it's important to pop bloodlust/heroism and start making her hurt. Free the first few blocks, until the boss hits 10-15%, at which point you'll want to ignore the blocks and kill the boss before the stacks kill the druid. It's very manageable, and easier than the tank swapping strategy (although one swap may be required on 25 unless your DPS are exceptional, which somewhat negates the usefulness of this). I've tanked it with 66k HP, 485 frost resist, and it was really rather easy if your healers are on the ball. It's advantageous, but not necessary to coincide cooldowns with breaths towards the end of the fight (aura mastery on frost aura, divine sacrifice, barkskin, survival instincts, that sort of thing).

Tactics :
First of all, I can say that this boss WILL need at least 4-5 wipes for your raid to get the first two phases right.
Tanks :
Phase 1 :
The first tank positions the boss with his head to the left (or right) but preferably not facing the balcony. Tank switches every 2 stacks of
Frost Breath
(it resets plenty of times due to air phase, but keep an eye). She also
Icy Grip's
you to herself before casting
Blistering Cold
which has a 5 second cast time, as a DK Tank I usually Anti-Magic Shield for the RP and I only get hit for about 5k but you can run out if you want.Another thing to watch out is
Permeating Chill
, you might wanna stop DPS'ing if the stacks get too high.
P2 ( Air Phase ) :
The tanks have the same job as the DPS and healers, if you get
Frost Beacon
stay 11 yards away from everyone but preferably close to the other beaconed guy (10 yards away). (Tip : Use smokes or lights and place them on the ground so the beaconed ones can go to their places without hesitation, it's VERY HELPFUL, use it!) And of course LoS the
Frost Bomb
(DPS the tombs to 10% then wait till Sindragosa gets down to take her. ( She will cast 4 Frost Bombs during this phase so make sure you have your Frost tombs at about 10% so you can LoS the spells and then quickly release your friends).
Phase 3:
The hardest phase which becomes a DPS race. One new spell
Mystic Buffet
acts as a soft enrage timer.
This spell is VERY Dangerous, that's where two tanks become very handy, when the MT has 3-4 Stacks the OT ( with 0 Debuffs because he has been in behind the Frost Tombs, LoS) taunts. The MT goes behind an Icy Tomb to remove Mystic Buffet. Rinse and Repeat.
Before getting to other jobs, I just want to add that in phase 3 Sindragosa won't fly in the air anymore but she WILL cast all her spells from Phase 1 + Mystic Buffet and she WILL freeze people into Icy tombs which will have to be killed as soon as tanks have had their debuff reset.
Healers:
Phase 1 :
Frost Aura
it's a passive spell, this fight will require A lot of healing so I suggest bringing 3, but 2 is doable, Tanks will usually not get a lot of damage before phase 3 , So healers should focus mainly on DPS'ers at the moment ( Sindragosa hits for 12k ~ on me and I can evade her Frost Breath).
It's important NOT to cast when you have
Unchained Magic
because it will result in damage and (I'm not totally sure but I think there is also a Silence).
Phase 2 :
Most important thing here is to FULLY heal the beaconed people or they WILL die in the frost tomb ( they can't be healed while inside of the tombs), Healers LoS the spell Sindragosa casts and heal people who got hit but of course normally they shouldn't get hit. After being released, the beaconed ones will probably be low on health, make sure to fully heal them.
Phase 3 :
VERY Stressing phase, Tanks will now take @#$% loads of damage and the same goes to the DPS'ers.
This is just a DPS race so your main job is to just AoE heal everyone or spam heals on the MT-OT because Sindragosa's spells can now hit the tanks for about 35-40k damage.
DPS:
Phase 1 :
Normal phase and easy just DPS the boss without being at her tail and watch out when you get Permeating Cold (spell tool tip in the tank section) , you will have to stop attacking. Nothing special, move on to phase 2. Casters you should also watch out for Unchained Magic (spell tool tip in healer section).
Phase 2:
Easy phase too, make sure you get the frost tombs to 10% and stop DPS'ing till Sindragosa casts her 4 spells. Again, Make sure you have smokes or lights on the floor to indicate where to stand , it's VERY Helpful.
Phase 3 :
DPS race but there are also A lot of things to do, first of all Sindragosa will keep all her Phase 1 spells + She will beacon people + a New Spell (Mystic Buffet).
We did it like this : Ranged DPS the boss always but refresh debuffs at about 5 stacks.
Melee release your friends from the tombs BUT not before the tanks have had their debuffs reset as said before, there will be a lot of tank change and tank damage.
Just one more thing, if you get beaconed, make sure you get away from your friends or it's an instant wipe.
I stated almost everything I think, hope this helps.
PS :
It might seem hard but after 4-5 wipes you get the heck of it.
Phase 1 and 2 should be perfected after 3-4 wipes and Phase 3 well, It's the hard part, try to get through it.
Edit 1 :
Getting some frost gear will probably be useful (even thought we didn't use it), the best guilds on our realm told us that it will help a lot even though it gets you HP/DPS/Healing down, try it.
Edit 2:
These tactics are mostly for 10 man since I've still never been there in 25 man but it's probably the same ones.
Edit 3:
Spelling Mistakes.

For Rogues:
Feint is your best friend during this fight, especially if your healers are of questionable skill. Use it whenever it's up.
Also during the ground phase when you get hit with Permeating Chill, you can take up to 5 stacks, then feint up to 7 stacks, then use CloS to clear the stacks. By the time you do all this and get back towards 5 stacks (the recommended stopping point) the debuff will have worn off.

As a dk I use Icebane Chestguard, Icebane Girdle, Icebane Treads, Titanium Frostguard Ring + Frost Aura = 485. I get half the damage from frost spells. Blistering Cold is from 0 with cooldowns to 15k without. All this is cheap to craft and may help if your equipment is low level.
Tanking with 130 frost res I took a Frost Breath of -30451<5737 resisted>. Melee swings were up to 8k. Frost Aura, Permeating Chill, hit for 1/4 dmg.
Tanking with 485 frost res I took a Frost Breath of -18597<14885 resisted>. Melee swings were 3-9k. Frost Aura, Permeating Chill, hit for half the damage.
If I'm MT, I have to use normal tanking gear or else I lose aggro to players with 5.9k gs (I have 5.4k gs with frost gear). Therefore, I only tank on FR during the last phase. Note that FR is not needed, I just got it as an experiment. Switching tanks properly is enough.
Last phase is about having a solid tactic to reset the Mystic debuff. The following works for us: one ranged on left tomb, whole raid on the other. Raid kills right tomb up to 20%, one marked melee does the rest. No one dps left tomb unless mentioned ranged himself is tombed.
DO NOT use deathknight ghouls on Sindragosa: he switches targets to the raid after a Blistering Cold, and seems to kill people at 30 yards for no reason. It happened with a hunter pet too, maybe the tank needs to eat the Blistering Cold?

The trick is the frost resist. Not so much the class. One tanking is the best way to go with a frost resist tank.
Blacksmithing has three pieces of frost gear (chest, waist, boots), Jewelcrafting as one ring, and Onyxia drops a great tanking ring that also has 30 frost resist on it. Get all of these, gem them to make sure you are uncritable, and combined with frost resistance aura, I get 515 Frost resist.
Add a frost enchant on your helm and cloak (buy a separate pair of these with frosts / use triumph / older set ones), and a spell resist flask, and it pushes you over 600 - immune to frost damage (bosses don't have spell pen).
The only attack Sindrangosa does that is NOT frost that will hit the tank, is cleave. Fairly manageable.
The high frost resist also greatly helps the tank survive with stacks of Arcane Buffet.
The frost pot is worthless, it only absorbs 6k damage before failing, stick with the armor pot on this one, especially if over 600 frost resist.

Our raid leader has a mod that spams officer chat when someone "fails" to move and stuff to that effect. We could not figure out why the melee was getting hit with tail smash. Finally, I stood as far back as I could in her melee hit box and it didn't hit me.
So, I'd suggest that all the melee stand maximum range from her at all times to avoid the damage from tail smash. It'll prevent some unneeded damage.

A good macro for a bear to use for that: /cast !Bear Form
It will cast it, even while in bear form, meaning you don't actually shift out. You can use it while still tanking her. The only drawback is that it clears your rage, but that shouldn't be an issue while actively tanking a boss.
Updated to reflect 4.0 changes. There is no more Dire Bear, just Bear.

Frost Tomb spell can be avoided by vanish, but the timing is a bit tricky, you have to stand on your postion and watch the aproaching ice ball from her, then use vanish right before it reaches you, it takes a bit of practice but it works, mages can also avoid it with Invisibility but its a bit harder.

So we killed this boss for the first time this week with my 10-man group. Since we only raid 1 night a week, we didn't get much time to go at her with all the time it takes clearing the other wings, so we really only started hitting her good last week.
Phase 1 and 2 were really easy, but phase 3 was a *!@#$. We had trouble coordinating who/when killed the ice blocks, sometimes people would not hide fast enough to clear stacks before it was broken, etc. We tried with 2 or 3 healers, 1 or 2 tanks, and still had trouble.
This week we tried a new strat, which worked on the fourth try (almost on the first!)
It's called "Screw the fight mechanics and just beat the hell out of the boss" ;)
We only kept 1 tank and 2 healers, with 7 dps.
We basically blew all our cooldowns at 35% and beat on her until she died, ignoring ice blocks completely (people just move on the side and watch the rest of the fight), unless it was early in the phase and one of the healers, then ranged freed him.
When she does her death-grip and aoe move, take the chance to run behind a block and drop your stack of mystic buffet.
So we killed her like that, with 1 healer, the tank and 2 dps left alive amid the chaos :)
So if you have good raid dps (everyone was over 6k, even in this fight where you gotta stop attacking to reset stacks and all), and lack a bit of coordination, this is a viable strategy (at least with the 10% buff it is).
*************
But here's something weird that happened, I don't know if anyone else experienced this. In one of the attempts, when I got turned in an ice block, I ran towards her tail and got frozen there. About 15 seconds later, for no reason, I broke free (noone attacked the block) and could join back in the fight.
It did this to a few other people in my group too, not very frequently, tho. The only 2 ways I have to explain this at the moment is that either:
1- when someone gets frozen near another block, it breaks the existing block.
2- If you get frozen behind the boss, the tail swipe will break the block.
If anyone has any idea what is causing this, please let me know. It would make the fight pretty easy if you don't have to spare dps to break the blocks. I won't be able to do any testing soon, seeing as we're keeping our raid lockout to try LK next week.
edit: spelling

Sindragosa
, formerly the prime-consort of Malygos, is a mighty frost wyrm who was raised by the Lich King himself at Sindragosa's Fall in Icecrown. She is the very same frost wyrm that the Lich King raised in the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic, as the same scene is played out after completing the quest Where Dragons Fell.

Aspect of the Pack works very well for this fight. It only causes a daze effect for targeted hits. So, it only dazes the tank and the Frost Tomb targets, neither of whom have the same requirements for running around. Turn it on before Blistering Cold, then off. Considering how much running around there is in Phase 3, it's worth leaving on for the entire phase.
Frost Breath leaves a snare effect. Unconfirmed, but Master's Call and Hand of Freedom appear to remove it. Ice Block and Divine Protection should also remove it.

A lot of tanks have been reporting problems with Sindragosa over stepping their spot after the
Blistering Cold
.
Simple solution to this problem:
To stop this, when she begins to cast
Blistering Cold
you want to move off your center line. By this I mean take half a step to your left or right. If you did this while she was attacking you she would kinda turn like 5 degrees or so.
Anyways, take that half a step while she is casting, and then when the cast is about to complete, start to step forward and backward. you want to be moving when she completes the cast.
The 5 degree side step itself will fix the problem, but the half a step forward and backward and repeat will 100% stop any forward movement.
Once the cast is complete, simply move back to where you were standing or stay where you are. She will not move in the slightest.

Mages can easily blink out of the AoE-pull under the dragon. I could continue my DPS when everybody else was still running away from the dragon. You could also cast the instant arcane-spell when flying into her as well as running away/blink from her.
When getting the debuff from spells, after casting your Arcane missiles, you just have to wait a little while until the debuff disappear.
Oh and when trying for the first time and wiping, have your timers on the trash. They despawned on us after a couple of attempts on the dragon. 6 attempts maybe. Dont remember the exact number.

More tips:
During the first phase, healers and ranged damage dealers should move in close. When she does her Icy Grip, you'll have less distance to fly. So, you'll spend less time in the air and have more time to run away from the Blistering Cold.
The vast majority of the damage done in this fight is from the Frost Aura. Wear Frost Resistance gear to reduce the load on the healers, especially during the final phase. Everyone wear it.
Clear your stacks of
Mystic Buffet
on every other ice tomb for the final phase. To do this, the raid clusters at her belly, about 25 yards back. The ice block targets alternate running left and right, as far forward as they can without getting in cleave or tail smash range. To clear your stacks, pick out the marked target, and get behind him. Follow him, while staying far enough away to avoid getting blocked yourself. When the ice block shoots out, dive behind it to clear your stacks.
Melee runs back and forth to kill the ice tombs. They automatically clear their stacks this way. Nobody is in melee range of the boss except the tank.
One tank healer should clear stacks on the left blocks. The other should take the right blocks.
Sindragosa casts
Mystic Buffet
from the glowing ball in her belly. You must keep the block between you and her belly to clear your stacks.
She casts
Mystic Buffet
every six seconds, but it has a duration of eight seconds. So, to clear your stacks, duck behind the block when there are three seconds left on it. You can safely run out when there are two seconds left, and they will tick down to zero and clear.
Heroic mode is
much
harder than regular mode. Aside from the mechanical changes mentioned above,
Frost Bomb
now does around 200,000 damage! This is not survivable. Everyone absolutely must stay out of line-of-sight for every single one. If you screw up and blow up an ice block early, everyone hiding behind it dies, and it's a wipe. This also makes tank positioning much more difficult, especially since the tank will be snared from Frost Breath.

It isn't a very difficult fight until the final phase kicks in. Here's some pointers that my group used
Phase 1/Air Phase
Probably the best way to tank her is to have her stand sideways a small distance in front of the bottom of the stairs. This makes the setup easier for the flight phase strategy below.
During the flight phase, (correct me if I'm wrong) DBM marks the two targets for iceblock. Before the fight, assign a position for the X and the Skull on opposite sides of the bottom part of the stairs. This way, when they freeze, all of the ice bombs land in front of them and the raid has to do very little repositioning.
When she lifts off, the raid should run to the top of the stairs immediately. Remind the raid that anyone near an X or a Skull is doing it wrong. If you can't make it up the stairs before the two targets are marked, wait for them to freeze before passing them. When they freeze, DPS the blocks down to 30-20%, and when she is about to land (either the game or DBM will tell you), finish them off.
Tanking her isn't too difficult in this part of the fight. The easiest way to get back to her after Blistering Cold is to use whatever charge attack you have - as long as she is sideways and near the staircase, the DPS can adjust safely. Make sure the tanks stay stacked in front of her. Also, for moments when you have to run (flight phase, blistering cold), keep in mind that the Frost Breath is considered a movement impairing buff and can be removed (by human racials, druid shifting, hand of freedom, etc.).
Casters should watch out for the backlash attack. The max amount you should debuff to depends on the strength of your raid heals, but to be safe never exceed 6 or 7 casts per backlash. Otherwise, the massive damage you take (# of spells cast * 2k) along with the average 1k DPS the aura does to the raid, will stress the healers and possibly wipe the raid.
Phase 2 (or 3)
The fight gets tricky here. It has always been about footwork, but now the movement required is a bit more difficult and the consequences much more severe. It doesn't quite matter where you tank her now, so long as she stays put.
Possibly the biggest wipe of this phase is not positioning right for the frost tombs. There should be one near her head - this part is probably the most important - and one near her back. As noted in the article, assigning some DPS to the front one and some to the back one is easiest, but make sure these DPSers aren't near the targets who are marked.
The head one is important because tanks have to be able to clear stacks quickly. After the first 4 stacks, have the lowest HP tank clear off the stacks, then come back and taunt off. Repeat this cycle every time a tank gets 3-5 stacks (depending on heals and tank gear) and you should survive.
Caster DPS now have to realise that Magic Buffet not only increases the raid damage they take, but also the damage from the backlash. This means they should only cast about 4-5 spells per backlash. Casters should try to clear the Buffet every 2-4 stacks, and meleers every 3-5, depending on the strength of the raid heals.
Notice that she still does Blistering Cold during this phase, which means that everyone (especially tanks) needs to be on their toes. With enough Buffeting, a Blistering Cold cast can easily cause a wipe if it hits a tank.
This fight is not a DPS race - much like the Blood Princes, it is all about footwork; where your raid members are individually and as a group, and when they need to be there. Also, I believe that the glitch used to despawn her after killing the second wyrm by going behind the gate no longer works (and it is scary as hell to see her walking through a door and pounding you dead), so be prepared to engage after the second miniboss dies.

After some reading, it's not possible to be immune to a particular school of spells. The highest you can push your
average resistance
in ANY scenario is 75%. Sometimes you will resist a spell fully, and sometimes you will only resist half, the max average is 75%. Perhaps what darthmullet meant was "resistance capped", which I prefer as the more appropriate term.
For the record to be capped against a level 83 attacker (Sindragosa) you need 415 frost resistance, very easily obtainable if you are a leatherworker and can use the frost resist emboss.

One problem I often had with the fight was resetting my stacks of Mystic Buffet, especially if Blistering Cold happened while I was running over, as it pulled me back before I could reset my stacks. I got up to 13-17 stacks on some occasions often before dying. However, getting frozen meant I could reset my stacks, which was quite convenient, and once the boss was below a certain amount of health, my raids often just zerged her to finish her off.

I personally enjoyed listening to her talk while in this fight. She's suppose to be constantly angry, and while some of the quotes are hammy, i personally think she's trying to drive a point in this fight. XD

Not that this particularly matters (isn't endgame content anymore...) BUT, if you run too far back into the room before Sindragosa to reset her, you WILL pull her into the room with you, where she will go through her normal attack phases. My guild has made this mistake twice now, and I will submit a screenshot to further illustrate my point.

i can't help but feel that Sindragosa's voice takes after a certain very specific accent, i just cant quite figure which one. Any ideas?

It should be noted that if you are running ICC with a group of 85s and your DPS is high enough, it is possible to skip the air phase by bringing her down to 35% health quickly enough, pushing her straight into Phase 3. This is immensely helpful if you're trying to do Heroic mode and your group doesn't have a solid understanding of the Ice Tombs and line-of-sighting the Frost Bombs, which can still 2-shot an 85 on Heroic.

Meta-Achievement Mechanic
To obtain the
All You Can Eat
achievements, raid groups must "defeat Sindragosa without any member of your raid receiving more than 5 stacks of Mystic Buffet."
During phase 3 of this fight,
Sindragosa
sends out
Mystic Buffet
every 5-6 seconds. The most important component is making sure players take the time to LoS the boss and let their stacks fall off - tanks who fail to do so will cause the raid group to fail this achievement!
The most straight-forward technique is to have the OT start by LoS-ing
Sindragosa
as soon as an
Ice Tomb
is down until their stacks of
Mystic Buffet
drop, and then LEAVING IT UP! Let the OT take aggro, and have the MT use the same
Ice Tomb
to drop their stacks of
Mystic Buffet
as well before retaking aggro on
Sindragosa
. Once both tanks have used the first
Ice Tomb
to reset their stacks, dps should break the
Tomb
. Then, the tanks will switch off each time a new
Ice Tomb
is formed, letting their stacks reset.
Ice Tombs
should be alternately placed near the head and tail of
Sindragosa
, but far enough away that they will not entrap any other players (especially one of the tanks).
Full all-85 raid groups with high damage output are able to down the boss before the stacks reach the tipping point, so it is a viable option as well.
Heroic Fight Mechanic
An additional player will be targeted with a
Frost Beacon
during
Sindragosa
's air phase (phase 2), making it THREE players in 10-man and SIX players in 25-man. It's extremely important that groups decide before the fight begins how they will be dealing with this. A sound strategy is to have all the marked players spread out along the bottom of the stairs, while everyone else stands at the top. Players can use all of the
Ice Tombs
to LoS each of the 4
Frost Bombs
that
Sindragosa
sends out before breaking out all of the players.
Another change is that
Unchained Magic
, a debuff that affects casters by giving them
Instability
, will now not only damage the caster but also anyone near them. To avoid this doing significant amounts of damage to the raid group, players should remain spread out when possible, and casters should let their stacks drop off periodically.

Glory of the Icecrown Raider
guide.

In case any tanks are wondering what she hits for with her melee swings in 25 heroic - 96,000 to 140,000 unmitigated melee swings with a 1.8 attack speed and can be affected by Parry-Haste.
You've got to alter your gear a little bit for this one and find a good mix between armor, expertise and resistance in this order. Good luck out there!
