Patch 3.2 Analysis (Mage)

Mage
* Arcane Blast: Mana cost reduced by 12%.
* Invisibility: Can no longer be interrupted by a hostile action or damage done during the 3 second fade time, however an invisible mage can still be stunned or silenced.
* Talents
o Fire
+ Empowered Fire: In addition to its existing effects, this talent now also grants a 33/67/100% chance to regain 1% of base mana each time the Ignite talent deals damage.
Looks pretty good for us. Fire mages get a personal replenishment, and now invisibility is no longer a unreliable threat dump tool.
Reduced mana cost on AB is pretty good for longevity in ulduar.
As far as other things go, I'm not sure I agree about emblems of conquest dropping from anything other than ulduar. The prices on runed orbs are crashing already.

(...) fire mages are going to be getting 1% of total mana back every 2 seconds .(...)
I don't want to ruin your party, but the current patch notes read 1% base mana.
What is 1% of 3268 for all mages.

It cancels out burnout. Sure mana is mana, but this approach does not impress me.

I am very worried about the path that the mage class is taking from Blizzard's point-of-view.
(Patch notes:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/test-realm-patchnotes.html
)
I don't know if all of you checked the Q&A session with the Blizzard crew (if not, here is the link:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17899681390&sid=1
), but to me it seems that the problem is not just "something that needs to get fixed", but rather HOW Blizzard is looking into the Mage class as a whole.
Everyone knows that mages are, and should always be in any game, "Glass-cannon nukers". And that was true back in the days for WoW too. However, if you take a look into the post-WoLK patch changes, you won't see much progress for the mage class, just little adjustments. And that seems to be still true with Patch 3.2.
Blizzard has defended the idea that the mage class is well-balanced and thus needs little adjustments, while Death Knights change pretty much everything at every major patch. However, what about other high-dps classes like rogues and hunters? They are still getting buffed, even though they are right now the top dps/damage classes. And mages today, specially with Ulduar fights (long and with lots of moving around), cannot keep up with them, period. I've seen mages with full T8.5, with 2.3k sp, high crit and haste Torment and Arcane spec, getting beat in damage charts by over 1k by rogues with lvl 213 epics. Sad, just sad.
And it's not just about the dps: Blizzard claims that "mages should always be wanted into a party for their ability to CC and AoE,
and buffs"
. That may be true when you talk about hybrid classes, but for mages? I ask: what buffs? Mages have terrible party buffs when compared to other classes such as Shamans and priests, for example. Why not give the mage a spell haste or crit buff, so they can help out the raid more? And other classes have nice CCs too, such as Shamans and rogues. Maybe mages should be AoE CCs, I don't know.
The thing is: Blizzard needs to stop screwing around, and take a deep look at the mage's role right now! We need more damage, through a decent Tier 9 Item Set (please, lets forget T8 ever existed, its a joke), a complete rework on ALL mage talents and talent trees, and spells.
Why not start from zero again? Use the lessons learned and re-create the class, so it can fulfill it's role as ranged nuker.

It's also important to note that destro locks, massive outliers in 3.1, are getting nerfed to the tune of 5% on chaos bolt and incinerate with the fire+brimstone spec.
However, empowered imp being a 100% crit chance is more than a little absurd, though it'll add tons of RNG into warlock damage which they'll certainly enjoy.
Hunters get a 22s cooldown on lock and load which will be a big hit in damage.
Feral Druids are getting nerfed too - look at how angry they are (and the patch notes) - everything is going down here.
What Blizzard is doing is not to raise the lower-damage classes, but nerf the high ones. That is wrong, you should not level the classes by the lower-damage ones; you should buff the lower-damge so they can compete with them.
And still, it's all just a big "band-aid" solution. Since we are talking about a very big patch, Blizzard should use this opportunity to make large scale adjustments to the mage class.
